00:00Welcome to the video from the Auto Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:03Today it's all about the new edition of the Subaru Outback, model year 2026.
00:09The Subaru Outback, as we've known it for three decades as a robust station wagon with all-wheel drive, is a thing of the past.
00:16With the new 7th generation, Subaru is finally saying goodbye to the classic station wagon format and presenting the Outback as a crossover SUV.
00:25A radical step that is clearly reflected in its design and technology.
00:30Even if the basic shape still reveals a hint of a station wagon, it is clear that the new model is much more SUV-oriented.
00:39Subaru used the New York International Auto Show to showcase not only the new electric trail seeker, but also the revised Solterra and the new Outback.
00:49The focus on the U.S. market is quickly explained.
00:52With around 670,000 new registrations last year, an increase of 5.6%, the United States is Subaru's most important single market worldwide.
01:04It's no wonder, then, that new models like the Outback are presented their first.
01:10Subaru itself speaks of a bolder approach to the design.
01:13The front is more striking, with a wide, rectangular grille and stacked headlights, which have already been seen on other models from the manufacturer.
01:22Rectangular cutouts for the high beams and a massive, dark-clad front end make the car appear more powerful and wider.
01:31At the rear, the sloping roofline of the predecessor disappears in favor of a more upright end.
01:40The rear window is now steeper.
01:42The D-pillar does not have a slanted window.
01:46Even the wheel arches now have more angular shapes, a design reference to the also facelifted Forester.
01:52Interestingly, the latter now looks almost more like a station wagon than the new Outback.
01:59The progress is more evident inside.
02:02The central portrait screen of the old model has been replaced by a landscape-format 12.1-inch display that sits higher and more ergonomically on the dashboard.
02:12This is complemented by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver.
02:17Both screens are housed in a common frame, creating a tidy overall appearance.
02:25This technology is standard on all model variants.
02:31Higher spec versions also get a two-tone dashboard made from recycled materials.
02:37Even the classic buttons for operating the air conditioning are retained, which should please especially hatch-loving drivers.
02:43The large gearshift lever in the center console, similar to the one in the Forester, provides a familiar feel.
02:51The cargo space behind the rear seat has now grown to approximately 980 liters, about 57 liters more than before.
03:00This is due to the higher roofline, which not only allows for more storage space but also additional headroom in the interior,
03:07although Subaru has not yet provided specific dimensions.
03:10For greater long-distance comfort, the seats are mounted directly to the chassis.
03:16This also provides better noise insulation in the roof area and an overall quieter driving experience.
03:23The new Outback continues to be powered by a 2.5-liter Boxer 4-cylinder engine,
03:29which produces just 182 horsepower and delivers a maximum torque of around 241 Nm.
03:35Power distribution is handled by a continuously variable automatic transmission with simulated gear shifts.
03:43While Subaru doesn't mention any noticeable changes in driving dynamics, the steering system has been revised.
03:49A modified version of the WRX system provides more precise steering at low speeds.
03:56The symmetrical all-wheel drive system has also been improved, particularly the center differential,
04:03which now locks more quickly, providing better grip in difficult situations.
04:07Those looking for more power will be pleased to see the return of the XT variant in the USA.
04:12This features a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine that delivers around 260 horsepower and approximately 375 Nm of torque.
04:24Here, too, power is distributed via continuously variable transmission with the same all-wheel drive system and a faster center differential lock.
04:32The new Outback retains a ground clearance of 22 cm, still a solid value for rougher terrain.
04:40New, however, are the factory-fitted 19-inch wheels.
04:45Subaru is also staying up-to-date with technology.
04:48The latest iSide driver assistance system is available.
04:51As is standard compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for all variants.
04:57Ideal for navigation and media playback.
04:59There are currently no pricing details for Europe.
05:03The new Outback is scheduled to launch in the US in late 2025.
05:07It will be available in the Premium, Limited, Limited XT, Touring XT, and Wilderness variants.
05:15A market launch in Europe is expected in 2026.
05:19As always, you'll find the link to read the article in our magazine in the video description.
