00:12To mark the compact sports car's 50th birthday,
00:15Volkswagen is presenting a special model that impresses not only with its stylish details,
00:20but above all with its impressive technology.
00:23Since its premiere in 1976, the Golf GTI has developed into a true icon.
00:30Over 2.5 million units have been sold worldwide since then.
00:34With the Edition 50, VW is now launching an anniversary model on the market in 2020
00:39that continues the success story with even more dynamism.
00:45Even at first glance, the Golf GTI Edition 50 remains true to its classic appearance,
00:50but clearly differs from the regular model in the details.
00:55The illuminated crossbar at the front, the also-illuminated logo
00:59and the standard IQ light headlights ensure a modern look.
01:04The red-painted 19-inch rims, which pay homage to earlier GTI generations,
01:09are a real eye-catcher.
01:11VW also focuses on exclusive accents in the interior.
01:15The sports seats in the typical racing green check pattern and art deco elements
01:19give the vehicle a sporty, elegant touch.
01:21This is complemented by subtle GTI 50D emblems, including on the roof spoiler and steering wheel.
01:30But the real highlight of the GTI Edition 50 is under the hood.
01:35The familiar four-cylinder turbo engine has been technically revised
01:38and now delivers a whopping 325 horsepower.
01:41That's 20 horsepower more than in the club sport model.
01:46In addition, there is a maximum torque of 420 newton meters.
01:50This power accelerates the Golf from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 5.5 seconds
01:56and the 200 kilometers per hour mark is reached after just 17 seconds.
02:01This makes the Edition 50 the most powerful and fastest GTI production model of all time.
02:06Those who want to experience even more dynamism can choose an optional performance package.
02:14This includes, among other things, a specially tuned chassis, modified pivot bearing,
02:19greater spring stiffness and optimized progressive steering with variable ratio.
02:26In addition, an electronically controlled front axle differential lock with a multi-plate clutch
02:31improves traction in curves and during sporty driving.
02:34Optional semi-slick tires provide even more grip.
02:39Ideal for driving pleasure on the racetrack.
02:42A record lap on the NĂźrburgring Norshalife shows just how serious VW is about performance.
02:49Racing driver Benny Leuchter piloted a near-production GTI Edition 50 in 7 minutes
02:54and just over 46 seconds over the entire distance including the T13 section.
02:58According to onboard timing, it even took 7 minutes and 41 seconds.
03:05This makes it the fastest road legal VW to ever lap the Norshalife.
03:10The technology used was largely the same as the production version.
03:14Only the performance package with semi-slick tires and forged wheels was used.
03:18Sales of the Golf GTI Edition 50 are planned for the end of 2025, with first deliveries in spring 2026.
03:28No official limitation has been announced so far.
03:32However, it can be assumed that the model will only be offered in the anniversary year.
03:36Volkswagen has not yet announced a price.
03:41However, experts estimate a base price of around 45,000 euros.
03:45With the performance package, it could be around 50,000 euros.
