00:00Welcome to the video from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:04Today we're talking about the new Volvo XC70 Plug-in Hybrid,
00:08which is attracting attention with its impressive electric range of up to 200 km.
00:15With the XC70, Volvo is launching an SUV model based on the SMA platform for plug-in hybrids,
00:21which the manufacturer says will be an important addition to its own portfolio.
00:25The aim is to make everyday life more efficient for many drivers
00:30through an improved combination of electric motor and combustion engine.
00:35Although plug-in hybrids were considered a dying breed for a while,
00:38they are currently experiencing a comeback.
00:42More and more drivers are realizing the advantages of emission-free driving in everyday life
00:46while maintaining the range freedom provided by the combustion engine.
00:50The automotive industry is responding to this with larger batteries,
00:55as recently seen in the Link 08,
00:57which surprised with an electric range of up to 200 km.
01:02Volvo, also part of the Chinese group Gili like Link & Co.,
01:06is now following suit with the XC70 and adopting a similar approach.
01:11The manufacturer is thus demonstrating that it is not rushing into the transition to all-electric vehicles,
01:16but rather prefers a balanced solution.
01:20The design of the XC70 exhibits clear Volvo jeans.
01:24At the front, a closed grille, inspired by the brand's electric vehicles,
01:28is complemented by an active air flap that automatically adjusts to the current cooling requirements
01:32and improves aerodynamics.
01:36At the rear, the vertical C-shaped taillights,
01:39which merge seamlessly into the rear window,
01:42create the typical appearance.
01:43Technically, much remains to be seen,
01:47as the manufacturer has not yet released any further performance data.
01:51These are expected to follow in the coming weeks.
01:55The stated electric range of up to 200 km is based on the Chinese CLTC cycle.
02:02In Europe, where the WLTPN applies,
02:05it is likely to be around 20% lower,
02:07resulting in around 160 km.
02:09This distance is sufficient to cover both urban and regional routes purely electrically
02:16and even enables shorter motorway journeys with zero emissions.
02:21When the battery is empty,
02:22the vehicle automatically switches to the combustion engine.
02:26A seamless transition that is particularly attractive for commuters.
02:29It remains to be seen whether the new Volvo XC70 will also come to Europe.
02:35Currently, only a market launch in China is planned.
02:39However, the manufacturer is keeping the option of offering the SUV in other markets,
02:43including Germany, at a later date.
02:46With its robust appearance,
02:48the XC70 is reminiscent of the earlier Volvo V70 XC,
02:52which was popular as a station wagon between 2000 and 2016.
02:56Now, however,
02:58the car no longer presents itself as a classic station wagon,
03:01but as a modern SUV with a clear off-road character.
