The Cry Baby Killer is a 1958 teen exploitation film produced by Roger Corman that marked Jack Nicholson's film debut.

Plot: 17-year-old Jimmy Wallace is brutally beaten by Manny Cole and two of his teen-age punk friends, Joey and Al, because Manny wants to move in on Jimmy's girl, Carole Fields. Later, Jimmy shows up at the hangout of the teenage crowd to take Carole away, and challenges Manny to a fight. Manny's two buddies move in with brass knuckles, and one of them pulls a pistol, which falls to the ground in the scuffle. Jimmy picks it up and shoots Manny and Al. A police officer orders Jimmy to surrender, but he panics, thinking he killed the pair, and dives into a small storeroom, and holds a man, woman and her baby as hostages...

00:15:15All right, kid, drop it.
00:15:16I don't want to have to shoot you, kid.
00:15:26All right.
00:16:07All right, boy. Drop it.
00:16:24Officer! Officer!
00:16:26Get back where you belong.
00:16:28My wife's in there. My baby's in there.
00:16:30Well, you don't need a dead father. Now get back, mister.
00:16:37Oh, my God.
00:17:07belly. Yeah, I know. What about the two other boys? The ambulance just left. Doc says they're
00:17:17still alive. Who's he? Oh, the woman's husband. Whatever. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes
00:17:27for the world. Doc, what about the two boys in the ambulance? Well, they could be up and
00:17:35raising cane in a couple of weeks, or they could be in the morgue. Gunshot in the
00:17:39intestines is an interesting wound. Yeah, yeah, very interesting. You're, uh... Fred Davis. Oh, brass knuckles, huh? You stick around, Fred. I want to talk to you later. Yes, sir.
00:17:53Reed, I want you to hold everybody's had anything to do with this. I'll talk to them as soon as I finish with Gannon. Yes, sir.
00:18:05Hello, Gannon. Lieutenant, how are the ones he shot? Interesting, the doc says. They've got a fighting chance. Any action there? Can't get a peep out of them. I don't know about the others. Anyway, he hasn't shot them. Well, let's see what I can do.
00:18:21Well, what's his name? Jimmy Wallace. Jimmy? Jimmy Wallace? Do you hear me? The place is surrounded. Throw your gun out and come out with your hands over your head.
00:18:34Keep talking to him, Gannon.
00:18:45Jimmy? Jimmy? I'm from the press news. Get back where you belong.
00:18:51Listen to me, son. You aren't doing yourself any good. Sooner or later, you gotta come out of there. You know that as well as I do. The sooner you come out, the better it'll be for you.
00:19:01The man's right, boy. You're in bad enough trouble as it is. There's no sense making more for yourself.
00:19:14Well, if you've got to stay, why don't you let the lady and the baby go?
00:19:18You're in good shape, Jimmy, if nothing else happens. They just took off Manny and Al, alive, kicking and cussing.
00:19:24Officer, I told you to get back to your blood. Look, I've got a good line to make.
00:19:30Please. Please do.
00:19:35Let me go with my baby.
00:19:37Officer, I told you to get back to your blood.
00:19:39Shut up. I'm trying to hear what that guy's saying out there.
00:19:43Look, just one question.
00:19:45Why don't you throw a couple of tear gas bombs in there?
00:19:47He's got a baby in there. The stuff had killed the kid before he even noticed it.
00:19:50Thanks.
00:19:53I meant what I said, Jimmy. It's all right for you to come out.
00:19:59He's lying. He's just saying that, so I'll give up.
00:20:03Boy, that little baby ain't done you no harm.
00:20:05Shut up!
00:20:07Nobody's talking to me out of here! Shut up and sit back where you belong, both of you!
00:20:11Oh, Mr. Maxton, don't worry. We'll get your wife and baby out.
00:20:23Alive or dead?
00:20:28Where's the Fields girl?
00:20:30Carol Fields!
00:20:32She ran out.
00:20:35Anderson, send a call out on the Fields girl. She's probably gone home.
00:20:39Who's next? Anyone in particular?
00:20:42No.
00:20:44All right, you care.
00:20:45Come on, snap it up.
00:20:46Reed, you better send Davis the next. He's got a bad head. I want to get him out of here.
00:20:49Move back there. Let that truck through.
00:20:51What was that?
00:20:52I don't know. I'll find out.
00:21:00She ran out.
00:21:04You'd have stuck by him, wouldn't you?
00:21:05Manny.
00:21:08You better believe I would have.
00:21:13Patsy's.
00:21:14The world's full of them.
00:21:16I'll put full of them.
00:21:17Some of you don't even know you're Patsy's.
00:21:20Like a Manny.
00:21:24He's the biggest Patsy of them all.
00:21:26Stop it, Joey.
00:21:29You're horrible.
00:21:33Set number one up on top of the truck and put number two down here.
00:21:36Number one will cover the crowd reaction.
00:21:38That way when things start popping, we'll get full coverage.
00:21:40And look, Joe, give me plenty of freedom on the mic cable, huh?
00:21:42Don't worry.
00:21:42Just what you needed the most, huh?
00:21:52Yeah, well, the public's got to be served, I guess.
00:21:54Look, you better keep low when the trouble starts.
00:21:56It's like it'll make a mighty mess those cameras of yours.
00:21:58You think he might try and shoot his way out?
00:22:00I don't know.
00:22:00You're going to have to ask him about that.
00:22:02Lieutenant Porter thinks he will.
00:22:04And he hasn't cracked one since they hold up in there.
00:22:06Must be hard as nails.
00:22:07What about the woman and the baby?
00:22:09Yeah, he's still got them and the kitchen man.
00:22:11Rick, sounds okay.
00:22:12Oh, thanks, Joe.
00:22:14You want to say something to the audience?
00:22:15No, Lieutenant Porter will in a minute.
00:22:17He's questioning them now.
00:22:18I'm trying to find out how this trouble started.
00:22:41Well, it all started over girls.
00:22:53And boys.
00:22:55Yes, sir.
00:22:56I guess so.
00:22:57Well, let's leave the theory for the time being and just tell me what happened.
00:23:00Well, I think I already have.
00:23:02I picked him up there in the alley and got him cleaned up.
00:23:05He wanted to get Carol away from Manny.
00:23:06Which you were sure he couldn't do.
00:23:09Yes, sir.
00:23:10When a girl goes bad.
00:23:13I don't know, Fred.
00:23:15Maybe you're right.
00:23:17Well, I guess I told you all I know, sir.
00:23:19Well, it's a pretty bad knock you got there.
00:23:21You better get it home.
00:23:23Well, if you don't mind, I'd like to stay around.
00:23:26You see, Jimmy's a good friend of mine.
00:23:27Freddy, there isn't a thing you can do to help.
00:23:29You'd better go.
00:23:32Yes, sir.
00:23:32There's the patsy's patsy.
00:23:42Honest, the way he walked into it out there.
00:23:44Just ask him to be slugged.
00:23:47Hey, footballers.
00:23:48Were you reverent, loyal, courteous, and obedient?
00:23:52Why don't you shut up?
00:23:53You little...
00:23:54All right, you're next.
00:23:56Come on.
00:23:56You can send the rest of them home, Anderson.
00:24:11What's your name?
00:24:12Joey Clayman.
00:24:15Sit down.
00:24:18No, not over there.
00:24:19Right down here, right across from me.
00:24:21Here, sir.
00:24:30All right, how'd this thing start?
00:24:33Well, I don't have the slightest idea, sir.
00:24:35I just happen to be here.
00:24:38I'd have been home in my bed a long time ago
00:24:39if you policemen hadn't made me stay.
00:24:42It's way past my bedtime.
00:24:51How old are you?
00:25:02Eighteen.
00:25:02When?
00:25:04The seventh of last month.
00:25:05You know you could go to the penitentiary
00:25:07of the gas chamber?
00:25:09Gas chamber?
00:25:10It was your gun that shot those boys.
00:25:11No.
00:25:13All right.
00:25:14Let's just say that you were toting it.
00:25:17Doesn't make any difference.
00:25:18Doesn't cut any ice at all
00:25:19because it was in your possession.
00:25:20It was not.
00:25:21I'd never seen the gun before.
00:25:24Well, I...
00:25:25I seen it, but...
00:25:28I never had it in my hand.
00:25:30Al was toting it for Manny.
00:25:32When they went outside to fight,
00:25:34Jimmy grabbed it and started blazing away.
00:25:35I didn't have nothing to do with it.
00:25:42All right.
00:25:44Now, let's start right from the beginning.
00:25:45Jimmy had been going around with this girl, Carol.
00:25:53She fell for Manny, and...
00:25:55That made Jimmy sore.
00:25:58What about the alley?
00:25:59Alley?
00:26:03Well, they...
00:26:03They beat him up.
00:26:05They?
00:26:06I didn't lay a hand on him.
00:26:08Oh, I can prove it.
00:26:11You're going to ask Jimmy.
00:26:12All right, so you didn't lay a hand on him.
00:26:13You just stood back and watched and egged him on.
00:26:16Boy, that I believe.
00:26:18Now, go ahead.
00:26:19Carol's folks are out of town for overnight, so...
00:26:26Manny was getting her oiled up.
00:26:28Doing what?
00:26:30Spiking her coke.
00:26:32Where was this?
00:26:35Right out there.
00:26:37Gambelli charges extra when it's a setup, but...
00:26:40What's worth it to a guy?
00:26:43Anyhow, he sent me out for a couple of pints, and I...
00:26:45Hold it.
00:26:46Just a minute.
00:26:49Gambelli.
00:26:52Yes?
00:26:53Come here.
00:26:53What do you want?
00:26:54In here.
00:27:04Hey, what is this, anyway?
00:27:07Gambelli, what do you charge the kids for a setup?
00:27:10Setup?
00:27:11A setup to minors.
00:27:13I didn't say nothing, Gambelli.
00:27:15Anderson, take him away.
00:27:19So you could put words in my mouth behind my back?
00:27:22Gambelli, you know these dirty, low-down, lying cops.
00:27:27Anderson, send him downtown, book him on a concealed weapons charge.
00:27:31Yes.
00:27:37Gambelli, so...
00:27:37What am I supposed to do, search every kid that comes in here?
00:27:40Don't ask me.
00:27:40Ask the licensing board.
00:27:41They're going to close up this stink hole tight on a drum.
00:27:43And you'll say so?
00:27:45When you've been smitten by every paper in this town?
00:27:47Oh, Mark.
00:27:48People don't like police brutality.
00:27:49And when I tell them how you beat up that poor kid...
00:27:51Oh, you can do better than that, Gambelli.
00:27:53One more word out of you, and if you're still able to talk,
00:27:55you can tell them how I beat you to a pulp on the inside,
00:27:58without leaving a mark on the outside for evidence.
00:27:59I want to talk to my lawyer.
00:28:02Here, it's your phone.
00:28:03You pay for it.
00:28:06I'll make it on the outside.
00:28:19What did you do to Gambelli?
00:28:20He climbed to the phone booth like his coattails were on fire.
00:28:23He's calling his lawyer.
00:28:24Didn't want me to listen in.
00:28:26Oh, Reed, did you find out what's going on outside?
00:28:28Yeah, our mobile TV unit.
00:28:29Rick Conner's covering her up there.
00:28:30Oh.
00:28:32Any break from the kid yet?
00:28:33No, no, not a crack.
00:28:34We'll be able to get out there and see what's going on.
00:28:40Ladies and gentlemen, what you're witnessing now is stark draw tragedy.
00:28:44In that small building, four lives hang in the balance.
00:28:55Who ordered a tear gas gun?
00:28:57Chief said it.
00:28:58In case that crowd gets out of hand.
00:29:06I know you've got your orders from the chief,
00:29:08but I want you to be careful and think before you use this thing.
00:29:11It's been almost two hours now since the boy with the gun
00:29:14closed that door on the world and on humanity.
00:29:17Since then, not a word.
00:29:19No one knows what has happened to him or to his hostages.
00:29:22This is Carl Maxton.
00:29:38It is his wife and his baby behind that door held captive by the boy with the gun.
00:29:43Teenagers.
00:29:46Never had them when I was a kid.
00:29:50Hey, Jim.
00:29:51Over here.
00:29:54Lieutenant Porter.
00:29:55Ladies and gentlemen, one of the city's really distinguished police officers in charge of this operation,
00:29:59Lieutenant Porter.
00:29:59Would you like to say something to our audience, Lieutenant?
00:30:02Rick, there isn't much I can say at this time.
00:30:04Except, as you can see, there's a very bad situation here,
00:30:07which we're trying to get under control as quickly as possible.
00:30:09That's all, Rick.
00:30:10Oh, thank you, Lieutenant Porter.
00:30:13Reed.
00:30:15Uh, Lieutenant Porter.
00:30:18Must be the fields girl.
00:30:19Something's happening.
00:30:25An official car is pushing its way through the crowd.
00:30:40I've just learned that it's Jimmy Wallace's father and mother.
00:30:43See if you can pick him up, Joe.
00:30:49Bring him in a little closer.
00:30:51Just a minute.
00:30:54My name is Maxton.
00:30:57Maxton?
00:30:59Oh, Mr. Maxton.
00:31:01Our baby's out there, too.
00:31:02Baby?
00:31:03You always think of them like that.
00:31:05Then why don't you keep your eye on it?
00:31:08They grow up?
00:31:09They grow up and they fall in love.
00:31:11Or think they do.
00:31:14How many times I've wanted to say to him,
00:31:17Jimmy, stay away from her.
00:31:18She's selfish, vulgar, cruel.
00:31:22No, it isn't true.
00:31:25She's rotten.
00:31:26Helen, please.
00:31:29A minute ago, I wanted to kill you.
00:31:32I held you to blame.
00:31:38We're in this together.
00:31:40We, you, all these people we've never even seen.
00:31:46Even her.
00:31:48Sit down in this booth and wait.
00:31:58Would you come with me, please?
00:31:59a minute ago.
00:32:00Stand with me.
00:32:04Come on.
00:32:07Come on.
00:32:37Just long enough for you to get rested a little, ma'am.
00:33:00I don't know what to do.
00:33:02What's going on out there? What's happening?
00:33:14We're switching back to the studio until something further happens here.
00:33:17Forty-five seconds.
00:33:17Forty-five seconds.
00:33:32Hungry, Glenn?
00:33:34Oh, you're an angel, Julie.
00:33:38Selfish angel.
00:33:40I get lonely.
00:33:41It can happen to the best of us.
00:33:44It did.
00:33:47His family's here.
00:33:49So's the girl.
00:33:52She...
00:33:52I keep thinking about my own kids, Glenn.
00:33:55I never knew you were married.
00:33:59My husband was killed in a car accident.
00:34:03I'm sorry.
00:34:05It was a long time ago.
00:34:08A lot of time's gone by since then.
00:34:09I never had a family.
00:34:31Get back.
00:34:33One inside.
00:34:33All right.
00:34:45Stay right where you are.
00:34:46Grab that gun.
00:35:11No, hold that switch. Hold it.
00:35:13Ladies and gentlemen, that was a shot you just heard.
00:35:14We don't know yet who fired it.
00:35:16We don't know yet who fired it.
00:35:23Trying to take the law into his own hands.
00:35:25He shot my boy.
00:35:26My poor little Al.
00:35:27He shot Al.
00:35:28I had to do something for my Al.
00:35:29Al Werner's old man.
00:35:31Well, you're a little late.
00:35:33Let's send him downtown.
00:35:39Jim, over to the storeroom.
00:35:44Somebody over there find out what's happening.
00:35:46Who was that?
00:35:51The Werner boy's father.
00:35:53Nothing happened.
00:35:53Officer Gannon disarmed him.
00:35:55We probably heard the shot.
00:35:57The condition he's already in.
00:36:00What a way to find out.
00:36:01You still feel up to Mrs. Wallace?
00:36:03Anything, Lieutenant.
00:36:04Anything that gives him a chance.
00:36:06Yes, I feel up to it.
00:36:08Gannon, you still got that bullhorn here?
00:36:10Yes, sir.
00:36:11It's in my car.
00:36:12We are making every effort, but we are still without word as to what has happened.
00:36:17However, we still have no word.
00:36:24Just a moment.
00:36:25It's being transmitted now.
00:36:34The shot you just heard was fired by the father of Al Werner, father of one of the boys who was wounded earlier this evening by the boy with the gun.
00:36:41Just a moment.
00:36:43Some more is coming through.
00:36:47He was under great strain at the time.
00:36:52Ladies and gentlemen, Station KQQQ will remain on the air to bring you the further news developments of this tragedy.
00:37:00We wish to thank the sponsors of the program usually seen at this time, Tracton's Restaurant, the finest of its kind anywhere, for relinquishing their time in order that we may bring you this public service feature.
00:37:13What happened out there?
00:37:16Oh, Julie, they're going to put me in jail, aren't they?
00:37:19Well, why shouldn't they?
00:37:20Julie, what would my father say?
00:37:25Don't you know what you've done?
00:37:27Don't you know what's going on out there?
00:37:30Well, that boy might be killed any minute.
00:37:32Maybe some other people, too.
00:37:35How do you think his father feels?
00:37:38I know, Julie.
00:37:39I really do.
00:37:41I've been working in this dump for six months, and I've seen a lot like you.
00:37:45You think because you're 16, the world owes you something.
00:37:49Well, it doesn't.
00:37:50You get what you work for.
00:37:53And you work to get Manny cold.
00:37:56You wind up in the gutter before you're old enough to vote.
00:38:01You're wrong.
00:38:01I won't wind up like that.
00:38:04I won't.
00:38:10You're right, miss.
00:38:13No.
00:38:15No, I'm not right.
00:38:17Putting the whole thing on her neck.
00:38:19As if she'd invented it.
00:38:20Gambelli owns this dump.
00:38:25And I've been working in this dump for six months.
00:38:28I hear they're bringing the fire department down.
00:38:38Why?
00:38:40Don't you ever go to the movies, lady?
00:38:42See the newsreels all the time over in Europe.
00:38:43If the crowd gets out of hand, they would have them down with the hoses.
00:38:46They wouldn't dare.
00:38:47Something is about to happen here, ladies and gentlemen.
00:38:52The boy's mother is over now at the storeroom trying to talk her son out.
00:38:56That's her you see on your television screen at this moment.
00:39:00There you are, Mrs. Wallace.
00:39:01Just press the button.
00:39:03We'll try and pick up every word she says.
00:39:04Perhaps she'll be able to talk him out of the storeroom.
00:39:10Jimmy.
00:39:12Listen to me, Jimmy.
00:39:14We love you.
00:39:15You are flesh and blood.
00:39:17We'll stand by you no matter what happens.
00:39:21Please, come out.
00:39:23That's your own mother, son.
00:39:26Mrs. Wallace, please let me talk to him.
00:39:31Please let me.
00:39:32Why won't you let me talk to him?
00:39:34You have talked to him.
00:39:35That's what got him here.
00:39:36Please, please let me.
00:39:36Now get inside and stay inside.
00:39:40Now, Jimmy, listen to me.
00:39:43This is Lieutenant Porter.
00:39:45You should see what you're doing to your parents.
00:39:47Now, I want you to come out.
00:39:49Nobody will hurt you.
00:39:51Jimmy, dear.
00:39:52Just come to the window.
00:39:54Let's talk to each other.
00:39:56All right, Mom.
00:40:05Joe.
00:40:06Got it, Rick.
00:40:08There he is, folks.
00:40:09The boy with the gun.
00:40:12The crowd is going crazy.
00:40:13The police can't hold them back.
00:40:14Sure rough on him.
00:40:36They have and the rest of us.
00:40:38Or it might have worked.
00:40:41I'm sorry.
00:40:57Poor little kid.
00:41:00I hope they kill you.
00:41:03You're worse than an animal.
00:41:05Boy, why don't you let her and the baby out?
00:41:09I can't.
00:41:11I just can't, not yet.
00:41:13Why?
00:41:15We can't help you by being here.
00:41:18I beg you, why can't you let us out?
00:41:23Because when that door opens, I'm going to die.
00:41:26And I'm not ready yet.
00:41:28I've got things to think out.
00:41:34Thank you very much for your opinion, sir.
00:41:37Ladies and gentlemen, it's been almost three hours now since high school student Jimmy Wallace became the boy with the gun.
00:41:43Three hours of waiting, three hours of terror.
00:41:46May I have your name, please?
00:41:48Am I really on TV?
00:41:49Yes, ma'am, you are.
00:41:50Oh, the crazy kids.
00:41:52I'll tell you what I think, mister.
00:41:53You better take these punk kids from in jail and toss the key away.
00:41:56That's what I think.
00:41:57My old man, if I did something wrong, he'd really straighten out.
00:41:59Yeah, well, thank you very much, sir.
00:42:01May I have your name, please?
00:42:07Lieutenant Porter.
00:42:08What's happening?
00:42:13How long are you going to wait?
00:42:15I don't know, Rick.
00:42:17You think he still might come out on his own?
00:42:20I don't know that either.
00:42:21But I do know once we start to pull him out...
00:42:24Well, it's not easy to give the word that might lead to a lot of people dying.
00:42:29Right now, it all depends on him.
00:42:31Well, keep him quiet, can't you?
00:42:59He's hungry!
00:43:00Is that my fault?
00:43:02That you're a mad beast?
00:43:04An animal?
00:43:05Maxton.
00:43:06What's the matter with you?
00:43:08Are you afraid of hurting his feelings?
00:43:09This monster with a gun?
00:43:11Murderer or degenerate?
00:43:13Shut up!
00:43:13Filthy, filthy, filthy degenerate!
00:43:15I beg you to shut up!
00:43:26Oh, God.
00:43:30I'm sorry, ma'am.
00:43:35I didn't think about his being hungry.
00:43:37We can't let him get hungry at a time like this, can we?
00:43:52Go to the window, please.
00:43:54The window!
00:43:55Can't you understand plain English?
00:43:57Tell him to get a bottle of milk for the baby!
00:43:58That's right, isn't it, milk?
00:44:05Tell him to get a bottle of milk.
00:44:08And no tricks, you understand?
00:44:12What could I do, boy?
00:44:13Go ahead, call them.
00:44:17Do you mind if I wave a handkerchief?
00:44:19I don't want to get shot by mistake.
00:44:23Go ahead.
00:44:23Come out!
00:44:37Come out out there!
00:44:40Jimmy!
00:44:41Who is it?
00:44:43Lieutenant Porter!
00:44:45Reed.
00:44:50It looks as if the boy is coming out.
00:44:52Reed, get these people out of here.
00:44:58Come on, come on, go on.
00:45:00It's my family in there.
00:45:02It's my wife and my baby.
00:45:04Don't you?
00:45:05It's me, Sam.
00:45:08Sam, everyone all right in there?
00:45:10Ain't nobody heard us, that's what you mean.
00:45:12Don't come any closer!
00:45:17What's the matter, Jimmy?
00:45:18You tired of being in there?
00:45:19Is he coming out, Sam?
00:45:27No, sir.
00:45:29We want some milk for the baby.
00:45:36He's hungry, Lieutenant.
00:45:38How can we get anything to you if you won't let us get any closer than this?
00:45:40Tell him to get a long pole or a stick and tie the bottle on the end of it.
00:45:50All right, Jimmy.
00:45:51We'll see what we can do.
00:45:52Watch yourself, Gannon.
00:45:53Reed.
00:45:54All right.
00:45:54It's coming.
00:46:04Can't you get him to be quiet until it comes?
00:46:11Come on, get inside, please.
00:46:12Come on, get inside.
00:46:12Ladies and gentlemen, it looks like they're bringing food to the baby.
00:46:21Yes, the police have a basket containing the bottle of milk.
00:46:29Here, hold this, Reed.
00:46:30Well, it'd be enough to put him to sleep just snowing the cork.
00:46:41I hope he drinks it.
00:46:43I don't see how he can resist it.
00:46:45It's been in there a long time.
00:46:46All right, Sam, we've got the milk and some hot coffee.
00:47:08Go ahead, get it.
00:47:12All right, Lieutenant.
00:47:16That's close enough.
00:47:30Please, don't try that again.
00:47:47Please, don't.
00:47:48Please, don't.
00:48:00Well, it's about time.
00:48:28Sure, I know what time it is.
00:48:30I've been trying to get you for three hours.
00:48:32Look, I got troubles here, and you're my lawyer.
00:48:34Come in, come in.
00:48:38No, not you.
00:48:39Somebody else.
00:48:41Now, listen now.
00:48:44Yeah, why, you were out enjoying yourself.
00:48:46Now, get over here as fast as you can.
00:48:50Lawyers, kids, policemen, policemen, threatening me.
00:48:54See, can't get one punk kid out of my building.
00:48:58On top of everything else, he threatens me.
00:49:01Well, what would you do?
00:49:02First thing, I'd make the kids' parents pay for what it's costing the city.
00:49:05And every cent I'm out.
00:49:07On $78 a week take-home pay?
00:49:10I'd stop juvenile delinquency.
00:49:13You'd be out of business, then.
00:49:15Am I supposed to watch their kids' room?
00:49:17Is it up to me to know what they're up to?
00:49:19Well, now, listen, Gambelli.
00:49:21I've got kids of my own.
00:49:22Well, that's not my fault.
00:49:26I've got to see what they're up to.
00:49:29Reed, take care of him.
00:49:31Oh, Rick.
00:49:32You're going to have to move back out of the way.
00:49:34Well, that's not going to help us cover this thing.
00:49:36I'm not so sure you're not violating the rights of freedom of the press.
00:49:39Well, if the press wants to take a chance on having one of its high-priced talents blown to Kingdom Come.
00:49:42That means something's going to break?
00:49:44Yeah, we're going to blast him out.
00:49:46Oh.
00:49:47Well, nobody likes.
00:49:49Sergeant.
00:49:50What about my place?
00:49:51Your place?
00:49:52When all this blasting starts, what about the damage to my place?
00:49:56Look, Gambelli, I don't think you've got a thing to worry about.
00:49:58Because if we have anything to say about it, you're going to be closed down so tight it won't make any difference.
00:50:05Where is that Lawson?
00:50:06Here you are, folks.
00:50:07Oh, what a sweet character.
00:50:09Get your my-lawed dogs.
00:50:09Two bits, a quarter.
00:50:11Come and get him.
00:50:11That'll be great for his blood pressure.
00:50:14Yeah, well, for the sake of your blood pressure, you better start moving.
00:50:19Two bits, a quarter.
00:50:21You're trespassing.
00:50:23I've one out of the house, Mr. Good for Man and Beast.
00:50:25Come and get him.
00:50:27Leave him through.
00:50:28That's my lawyer.
00:50:31Let's get back.
00:50:32Come on, folks.
00:50:34Get your frank for his ass.
00:50:36Come on, folks.
00:50:37Hey, Mr. Frank!
00:50:49Lieutenant!
00:50:51There he is.
00:50:53Lieutenant Porter?
00:50:54That's right.
00:50:55I'm John Lawson, an attorney.
00:50:57I represent Mr. Gambelli.
00:50:58Oh, sure.
00:50:59I know you.
00:51:00You haven't been a cop as long as I have.
00:51:02You get to know all the lawyers, good and bad.
00:51:06Good.
00:51:06Then we can get right down to business.
00:51:09My client is very much upset.
00:51:11He feels that he has a claim against the city and you personally.
00:51:14Huh?
00:51:14He feels that reasonable care has not been observed in the protection of his interests.
00:51:18Is that so?
00:51:20Yes.
00:51:21Now, Lieutenant, you and I know that at a time like this, a man is apt to get upset, Mr.
00:51:25Gambelli, as well as you.
00:51:27Hmm.
00:51:27But you and I also know that a cop who hits a kid in the presence of a witness is asking
00:51:32for trouble.
00:51:33When on top of that, he threatens the witness.
00:51:37Well, Mr. Gambelli is not a man to hold grudges.
00:51:40All that he asks of you is reasonable protection of his interests.
00:51:45Yeah, I see what you mean.
00:51:47You mean like that fellow over there that's making money out of Mr. Gambelli's own personal
00:51:50violence and law-breaking, huh?
00:51:52A counselor will see you in court, and if I'm real lucky, I'll see both you and your client
00:51:57in jail.
00:52:03Now, trouble?
00:52:05No, but there will be for Gambelli.
00:52:07I see you moved Rick.
00:52:09Yes, sir.
00:52:09Oh, Gannon, I want you to take Mr. Max and the Wallis' inside, and I want them to stay
00:52:15there.
00:52:16I want you to handle it because you're the understanding family type of a cop.
00:52:20Yeah.
00:52:21Oh, and Gannon, get back as quick as you can.
00:52:24All right, folks.
00:52:26Inside.
00:52:26Inside.
00:52:39Gannon's in love, probably for the first time in his life, and he's got to pick a time

00:53:13A baby, a child, can live or die because of what you're doing.
00:53:21Jimmy, even if you don't care about yourself or your parents, let those people come out safely.
00:53:27Free those people and come out.
