Recently released from prison on parole, John Bradley (Ralph Bellamy) plans to live alone quietly in a cabin in the country. He is visited there by the sheriff's daughter, Helen Grant (Nell O'Day) on whose account he had got into a fight and accidentally killed a man in the past. As Bradley is trying to persuade Helen to leave his peaceful existence is disrupted when a beautiful disheveled woman in a evening dress arrives at his door. This is Louise Loring (Fay Wray), who has run away on foot from her rich "protector", Tony Robson. Conroy attacks Loring and Bradley interviens.. Knocking Conroy to the ground and hitting his head. He thinks he killed him (he did not). He then flees to avoid capture and...

00:01:08The End
00:01:46What time is it?
00:01:48Say, are you going to keep asking me that every ten minutes?
00:01:52It's exactly nine minutes since the last time I told you.
00:01:56It seems like 90.
00:01:59Oh, you birds all act that way the day you're getting out.
00:02:03Like an old horse heading for home.
00:02:08They're coming for you now.
00:02:21Good-bye.
00:02:22Come back again when you get more time.
00:02:25Have it to all fully want on me, Pally.
00:02:28Johnny doesn't live here anymore.
00:02:31I found my sky.
00:02:32So long, Bradley.
00:02:33Be careful of the traffic, kid.
00:02:37Here's your wallet, Bradley.
00:02:39And here's the customary money the state gives each outgoing prisoner.
00:02:43Thanks, Wharton.
00:02:44You can keep that and give it to some guy who needs it more than I do.
00:02:47I will.
00:02:49And put this with it, please.
00:02:51For the welfare funds?
00:02:52If that's where it'll do the most good.
00:02:54I can't say that I'm sorry to see you go, Bradley.
00:02:57Neither can I, Wharton.
00:02:59Your record here has been good.
00:03:00I hope it'll be the same way on the outside.
00:03:02If they'll let me alone, it will.
00:03:04You're not altogether free.
00:03:07You've got to watch your step.
00:03:09It's hard on a man who's been a loser, even a one-time loser.
00:03:13I've had enough bars being watched every minute of the day and night.
00:03:17Oh, I know how you feel.
00:03:19I'll have to admit you got a tough break.
00:03:21You never belonged here, but I don't make the laws.
00:03:25I wish you did.
00:03:27The man you hit in that brawl died, and the law says you've got to pay for that crime.
00:03:33I paid, all right.
00:03:35Watch your temper, Bradley.
00:03:38Watch it.
00:03:39I've seen you hold on to it when things were tough.
00:03:44What are you going to do now?
00:03:46I'm going back to Denton.
00:03:48I've got a little cabin there.
00:03:49It's out in a grove of tall trees.
00:03:52And the air is good.
00:03:54I won't have to breathe it in through bars.
00:03:57Friends?
00:03:59I'll find out if I've got any friends left soon enough.
00:04:02Don't let it beat you if you find out you haven't.
00:04:05Stay clear of fights and watch that temper.
00:04:09I'll watch it.
00:04:11Well, so long, old man.
00:04:12And good luck.
00:04:14Goodbye, warden.
00:04:20I'll see you next time.
00:04:21I'll see you next time.
00:04:21I'll see you next time.
00:04:21I'll see you next time.
00:04:22I'll see you next time.
00:04:22I'll see you next time.
00:04:23I'll see you next time.
00:04:23I'll see you next time.
00:04:28I'll see you next time.
00:04:32I'll see you next time.
00:04:34I'll see you next time.
00:04:51Hmm, Batchelor Hall.
00:04:54What is it, Father?
00:04:56John Bradley's turned country gentleman on us.
00:04:59I wouldn't be so hard on him, Father.
00:05:02He's behaving himself.
00:05:03Yes, he better behave himself.
00:05:05As long as I'm peace officer of this county,
00:05:08he'll find himself back in Batchelor Hall where he belongs.
00:05:11John's always been a good boy, just a little independent.
00:05:16You seem to forget he's an ex-convict.
00:05:18You always seem to think well of his father.
00:05:20No, you're talking about a man.
00:05:23Now, Bob Bradley, one of the finest men who ever lived,
00:05:26came to have a son like that one.
00:05:28For the life of me, I can't figure it out.
00:05:30It's a time like this when a man needs all his friends.
00:05:34Speaking of his friends, uh, where's Helen?
00:05:37At the Benson's. She's had dinner there.
00:05:39Oh, yes. Nice folks, the Benson's.
00:05:42I'm glad that daughter of ours is getting some sense.
00:05:45Why, of course.
00:05:46It's high time she forgot that jailbird.
00:05:48If I catch her hanging around John Bradley, I'll...
00:05:52Now, Fred, she's forgotten all about that.
00:05:55Helen promised me she'd never see Bradley again.
00:06:01Helen, you're getting to be a pest.
00:06:03I don't like the idea of your coming here.
00:06:05Well, I like it.
00:06:06And I'm going to keep coming here.
00:06:09This place needs a woman's touch.
00:06:12Next time I'm going to put some new drapes up over those windows.
00:06:15But right now, you're going to put on your coat and go home.
00:06:18Oh, let me stay and talk with you for a while.
00:06:20You used to let me have my own way.
00:06:22Yeah.
00:06:22It's just what got me into the mess.
00:06:25I've told you how sorry I am.
00:06:27After all, I didn't know a little flirting was going to end in a fight.
00:06:30But it did.
00:06:33The fight ended in a boy's death.
00:06:35It put me behind bars for three long years.
00:06:40You don't seem to realize what that meant.
00:06:52It's just what the fight you knew.

00:20:24What do you want?
00:20:27Bradley in there?
00:20:29What do you want?
00:20:32Well, darling, it's like this.
00:20:35You're coming home with me.
00:20:36I gave you my answer when you were here before.
00:20:41Still, you're coming home.
00:20:42Oh, it's no use, Tony. It won't work.
00:20:44I'll never go back with you.
00:20:46Better come along, Louise, before there's any trouble.
00:20:51If I have to carry you, you're...
00:20:54You leave me alone.
00:20:56Well, don't stand there. Get rid of that dog.
00:21:00Oh, no, you don't.
00:21:14What is this? Open house or visitor's day?
00:21:17We won't intrude any longer.
00:21:19Miss Loring's decided to come home with us.
00:21:21That's all right with me.
00:21:23But I'm not going.
00:21:26That's all right with me, too.
00:21:27Who?
00:21:31Who did this?
00:21:38Oh, look out!
00:21:40Let go of me.
00:21:49Try that again, baby, and it'll break your arm.
00:22:01Come on.
00:22:03He's all right.
00:22:05Take him and get out of here.
00:22:12Come on, Dick. Wake up. We're going home.
00:22:14I'm all right.
00:22:15Come on.
00:22:16Get him out of here.
00:22:17The air will bring him, too.
00:22:55Come on.
00:22:58Conroy will be a sorry boy when he sobers up and realizes what he's done.
00:23:01I should think he might.
00:23:03Robeson made him do it.
00:23:05He handled him like a child.
00:23:29Cigarette?
00:23:33Believe it or not, this place used to be known as one of the quietest in the county.
00:23:37Probably would have remained so if I hadn't come along.
00:23:39Oh, you've brightened things up a bit.
00:23:41It was beginning to get pretty monotonous.
00:23:48It's going to be a long wait for that train.
00:23:51Oh, I don't mind.
00:23:53Getting away is too important.
00:23:55And after you get away?
00:23:56Well, first thing will be to get some clothes.
00:24:00Clothes?
00:24:01Doesn't a woman ever think past getting some clothes?
00:24:04Very seldom.
00:24:08May I turn on the radio?
00:24:10Up yourself.
00:24:27You don't look like the type of person who'd get mixed up with a man like Robeson.
00:24:32Men like Robeson know women rather well. You might call it their business.
00:24:36They wait for a time when a woman needs friendship and sympathy.
00:24:40And then they're very kind and gentle.
00:24:43I've never discovered anything kind or gentle about Robeson.
00:24:47You're not a woman.
00:24:49Well, when I first knew him...
00:24:53Let's go.
00:24:54Welcome home, stranger.
00:24:55When did you get in?
00:24:56Only an hour ago.
00:24:57I've still got my sea legs.
00:24:58Why didn't you cable me?
00:25:00Oh, too thrilled. Too excited, I guess.
00:25:02I've got a head just spinning with plans.
00:25:04Well, sit down or you'll have mine spinning, too.
00:25:07What are they?
00:25:08Well, wonderful things.
00:25:11Am I in them?
00:25:12Oh, no.
00:25:13Oh, come now, Louise.
00:25:14Surely you've forgiven me that clumsy attempt in Paris.
00:25:18Of course I have.
00:25:19Would I be here if I hadn't?
00:25:21I guess not.
00:25:23How's the music?
00:25:24Simply trembling to burst out of me.
00:25:26I'll have you know I'm the finished product of the finest conservatory in Europe.
00:25:29All set to knock the American public cold, huh?
00:25:32All set.
00:25:33What's the approach?
00:25:34Well, I'm going on a concert tour.
00:25:36Ready for it?
00:25:36I mean, you must realize that it takes something more than just enthusiasm.
00:25:40Yes, I know that.
00:25:41I may have to teach first.
00:25:42Interest people.
00:25:43It's done, you know.
00:25:45You have interest in one people.
00:25:47Me.
00:25:48Oh, thank you, Tony.
00:25:50I'm glad you believe in me.
00:25:51It's more than just a belief, Louise.
00:25:55You have the talent.
00:25:57All you need is the money.
00:25:58I can supply that.
00:26:00Oh, but, Tony, I have some pride, you know.
00:26:02Oh, pride's nothing to do with it.
00:26:03It'll be a loan.
00:26:04You'll need money if you're going to succeed.
00:26:06Money, influential friends, many things.
00:26:09I have all that.
00:26:13The idea sounded great at the time.
00:26:17A shortcut to fame, eh?
00:26:20Yes, only in my case it wasn't fame.
00:26:23When my season finished in Boston, I went up to see him again.
00:26:29I've come to tell you that...
00:26:30I know all about it.
00:26:31I've been watching the papers.
00:26:33The concert in Boston was what we'd call an artistic success.
00:26:36Not a box office hit.
00:26:38I'm glad you understand.
00:26:41More than you think, dear.
00:26:42Well, that makes it easier to tell you.
00:26:44What?
00:26:44I've been a bad risk.
00:26:46All this money, I...
00:26:46I didn't know it was so much until now.
00:26:49Forget the money.
00:26:50I can't.
00:26:50It was a loan.
00:26:52It was an investment.
00:26:55Well, why didn't you tell me that?
00:26:56I never would have accepted it.
00:26:57I wanted you to have it if you couldn't sing a note.
00:27:00There are so many things I want to give you.
00:27:08Oh, but...
00:27:09It's yours.
00:27:12Forget your career for a while.
00:27:13We'll go away somewhere.
00:27:16Oh, don't fight me off again, Louise.
00:27:18There's so much I want to do for you.
00:27:21I've waited such a long time.
00:27:27Well...
00:27:29That's the whole story.
00:27:34Very interesting.
00:27:46Pretty.
00:27:55All right, all right.
00:27:56If you don't want to play, you don't.
00:27:58No.
00:27:59I don't want to play.
00:28:04Bradley, eh?
00:28:06Just what I expected.
00:28:09Fighting again.
00:28:11All right, I'll be right over to swear out a warrant.
00:28:14All right, all right.
00:28:16What happened, Pa?
00:28:19Bradley's got himself in another mess.
00:28:21Fighting over that woman I saw up there.
00:28:23I wish he knew his fighting in the daytime.
00:28:26Getting me up in the middle of the night.
00:28:40All right.
00:28:40Westport.
00:28:417460.
00:28:44Yes.
00:28:45I should think you'd understand.
00:28:47I've just been telling you about Robeson and...
00:28:51Am I a Robeson type?
00:28:54Yes.
00:28:55Worse.
00:28:58I'll admit I'm not very gentle.
00:29:01I wish you'd believe me.
00:29:03Does it make any difference?
00:29:06Excuse me.
00:29:14Hello?
00:29:15Oh, hello, kid.
00:29:16I'm glad you got home all right.
00:29:17What's on your mind?
00:29:18Speak louder.
00:29:21I don't dare talk any louder.
00:29:23Listen.
00:29:24What?
00:29:26Sure, I'll leave here right away.
00:29:28I'll be at Logan's.
00:29:29Tommy Logan's in the city.
00:29:31Try and get word to me there tomorrow.
00:29:32His address is...
00:29:39All right, I'll call you tomorrow.
00:29:41Now be careful, kid.
00:29:42Don't ask for me.
00:29:43I'll mention my name over the phone.
00:29:45All right.
00:29:46Thanks a lot, honey.
00:29:48Goodbye.
00:29:51Conroy's got a fractured skull.
00:29:53When he fell, he hit his head.
00:29:54Robeson swore not a warrant for my arrest.
00:29:55Oh.
00:29:55That means they're gonna drag me back again.
00:29:57Back?
00:29:58What do you mean?
00:29:58I'm out on parole.
00:30:00I was up once before for the same thing,
00:30:01and they call it manslaughter.
00:30:03This time, if Conroy dies, they'll make it murder.
00:30:05But I could explain how it happened.
00:30:07I'm afraid your word wouldn't help.
00:30:09Oh, I see.
00:30:10If he dies, I haven't a chance.
00:30:12I've got to get out of here.
00:30:14I'll drop you at the station.
00:30:15All right.
00:30:15The cops may give us a chase.
00:30:16You afraid?
00:30:17No.
00:30:17Well, I'll get you a coat.
00:30:27There.
00:30:28All right?
00:30:30Yes.
00:30:30Come on, let's go.
00:30:31All right.
00:30:44Frightened?
00:30:46No.
00:30:52Are you cold?
00:30:53Not very.
00:31:02Thanks.
00:31:09Well, the police call is probably out by now,
00:31:11but if we can cross the county line before morning,
00:31:13we still have a chance.
00:31:27There they are.
00:31:29Steady.
00:31:30Drive slower.
00:31:37Well, it looks like it's up.
00:31:48Well, well.
00:31:49What have we here?
00:31:50You seem to be in a great hurry.
00:31:52Not particularly.
00:31:53I didn't realize we were going so fast.
00:31:55You didn't, eh?
00:31:56Well, you'd better slow up.
00:31:57There's a bridge out three miles ahead.
00:31:58You'll have to detour.
00:31:59Take it easy.
00:32:00Thanks.
00:32:01I will.
00:32:05Phew.
00:32:17How's your heart?
00:32:18Pretty badly shaken up.
00:32:20Well, you're all right, you know.
00:32:21They don't want you.
00:32:23I wasn't thinking of that.
00:32:26We better pull off this main road and lay low until morning.
00:32:29When the police call goes out, that cop will report where he saw us,
00:32:32and they'll probably think we're a great deal further on.
00:32:34Anyway, we could do with a few hours sleep.
00:32:37All right.
00:32:45We're only a few miles from the station.
00:32:47If we leave by daylight, we ought to be able to make it by train time.
00:32:50You can't take me to the station.
00:32:52It's too dangerous.
00:32:53Where else?
00:32:56Where are you going?
00:32:58To Tommy Logan's, a friend of mine.
00:33:00We shared the same cell.
00:33:01Take me with you.
00:33:02No, you better get out of all this.
00:33:04But I started it.
00:33:06That's not the point.
00:33:08I'd rather stay with you.
00:33:09Help if I can.
00:33:10I'll sell these if you need any money.
00:33:14Thanks, but I don't need any.
00:33:16But I can stay.
00:33:20All right.
00:33:33You better sleep in back.
00:33:36Why?
00:33:37Do I disturb you?
00:33:39Yeah.
00:33:40Come on.
00:33:42Well, but I'll get cold back there.
00:33:45No, you won't.
00:33:45Come on.
00:33:50Come on.
00:33:54Ankle hurt?
00:33:56Yes, a little.
00:34:18You all right?
00:34:20Yes, thank you.
00:34:22Good night.
00:34:25Good night.
00:34:27Good night.
00:34:48Good night.
00:34:48All right.
00:34:50Good night.
00:35:04Good night.
00:35:08Good night.
00:35:11Good night.
00:35:12Good night.
00:35:15dadosétat is angry.
00:35:17Mm-hmm.
00:35:20Calling all homes, calling all homes.
00:35:24Before you go to bed tonight,
00:35:25make sure you sleep on a Flanagan suspension bed.
00:35:28The Flanagan suspension bed is built on the same principle as the Brooklyn Bridge,
00:35:33but with just a little more spring to it.
00:35:35If you've never slept on a Flanagan suspension bed,
00:35:37you've only been laying down.
00:35:39And now the Flanagan soup stores will play their theme song,
00:35:42Sleep Beautiful Sleep.
00:35:48Oh, Danny.
00:36:12No.
00:36:19No.
00:36:47You can choose your home space.
00:36:47See you next time.
00:36:47Where are you from?
00:37:13I didn't know you was awake, Lil.
00:37:15No, you petty larceny, Yegg.
00:37:18I'm sound asleep.
00:37:19I'm just having a dream that you hoisted my watch.
00:37:22Now, honest, Lil, you see, I just wanted to see what time it was.
00:37:26Ain't you cute?
00:37:27Just wanted to know what time it is.
00:37:29You know that biscuit hasn't been running for three years.
00:37:32Well, that's it.
00:37:33You see, I was just fixing to take it down and have it fixed.
00:37:36It's run down.
00:37:37Yeah, and you think it needs a rest in the hock shop.
00:37:41Oh, now, don't get all head up, Lil.
00:37:44Remember, I gave you this watch.
00:37:46Yes.
00:37:47I know you did, you Indian giver.
00:37:49Give me that ticker.
00:37:51Oh, now, Lil.
00:37:52Oh, now, Lil.
00:37:53I said give me that watch.
00:37:54No, Lil, Lil, cut it out now.
00:37:56You know I got a weak liver.
00:37:57Come here, you worm.
00:37:58Oh, Lil, wait a minute now.
00:37:59I'll teach you to rob your own wife.
00:38:01Oh, Lil, please don't.
00:38:02Oh, don't hit me with that.
00:38:04You know, your mother gave you that.
00:38:05Oh, yeah.
00:38:06Well, you're gonna get it right back.
00:38:17Who is it?
00:38:18It's Bradley.
00:38:19Open up.
00:38:21Glad to see you, kid.
00:38:23You know, I was just talking to the missus about you the other day
00:38:25and wondered what had happened to you.
00:38:26This is Tommy Logan, Miss Loring.
00:38:29Oh, how do you do, Miss?
00:38:31How do you do?
00:38:32Won't you sit down?
00:38:33Yes, thank you.
00:38:35Oh.
00:38:37Oh, oh, oh, Lil.
00:38:39Lil.
00:38:39Tommy.
00:38:43Baby, this is John Bradley.
00:38:45I certainly feel as if I knew you.
00:38:47Tommy's always talking about you.
00:38:48I guess that goes two ways.
00:38:50Yeah, you know, he...
00:38:50Oh, and this is his girlfriend, Miss...
00:38:53Miss Loring.
00:38:54Loring, yes.
00:38:54How do you do?
00:38:55How do you do?
00:38:56So this is John Bradley.
00:38:58Ain't he just like I told you?
00:39:00He looks all right to me.
00:39:01Thanks.
00:39:01I guess I got you to think that Tommy ever got out of the cooler.
00:39:04He wasn't a bad boy up there.
00:39:06No.
00:39:06If you hadn't watched him, he would have stolen everything,
00:39:08including the warden's back teeth.
00:39:13Doesn't she say the cutest thing, John?
00:39:15You folks must be hungry.
00:39:17You're a mind reader, all right.
00:39:18I'll see what I can do about it.
00:39:20Won't you pick off your coat, Miss Loring?
00:39:22Yes, thank you.
00:39:25Long distance.
00:39:26Hurry that call, will you please?
00:39:28167 West Street.
00:39:30That's right.
00:39:32Logan.
00:39:33L-O-G-A-N.
00:39:35No, L, as in love.
00:39:37That's right.
00:39:41Oh.
00:39:43Hello, Dad.
00:39:48Long distance.
00:39:52This is Sheriff Grant speaking.
00:39:54There was a mistake in that address my daughter just gave you.
00:39:58Read it back, please.
00:40:01167.
00:40:02Yes.
00:40:05167 West Street.
00:40:08That's right.
00:40:09And the name?
00:40:11L-O-G-A-N.
00:40:14You better cancel that call.
00:40:21What's on your mind?
00:40:22Trouble?
00:40:23I slapped a guy down last night.
00:40:26Yeah, and when you slap him, they stay slapped.
00:40:28We're hoping he's not badly hurt.
00:40:30He'll get the best of attention in the Denton Hospital.
00:40:33Sure, have a drink.
00:40:34No, thank you.
00:40:35Here's a bite.
00:40:36Maybe this will hold you until we can get some food together.
00:40:40Get on the phone, will you, and get someone to bury my car.
00:40:42It's down in front.
00:40:43Sure.
00:40:44We'll need some clothes, too.
00:40:46Got any cash?
00:40:47A little.
00:40:51Hey, there's plenty of cash.
00:40:53There's nothing phony about those things.
00:40:55I know a fella that...
00:40:57There's no rush.
00:40:58You don't have to fence that stuff.
00:40:59It's not hot.
00:41:00Oh.
00:41:01Get off to that car, will you?
00:41:03All right.
00:41:04I think I've got some clothes I could fix for you.
00:41:06Oh, thank you.
00:41:07I would like to get out of this dress.
00:41:08Won't take no time at all.
00:41:11Don't give that jewelry to Logan.
00:41:13Why not?
00:41:14I'll need the money.
00:41:15I've got plenty for now.
00:41:16He'd jip you.
00:41:17But he's your friend.
00:41:18You trust him.
00:41:19Not when it comes to jewelry.
00:41:20That's where he flops.
00:41:21In the first place, he'd sell it to a fence.
00:41:22You wouldn't get a third of what they're worth.
00:41:24With Tommy chiseling in, you'd better hang on to them.
00:41:26Just as you say.
00:41:30Would you like to clean up, honey?
00:41:32I'd like a bath.
00:41:34Sure, here's a robe for you.
00:41:36Well, it's pretty.
00:41:36Yeah, Tommy fell in love with me in that robe.
00:41:40I mean...
00:41:41That's all right.
00:41:42We understand.
00:41:44Am I embarrassed?
00:41:49It's not much, but it holds water.
00:41:51Well, that's all that's necessary.
00:41:52All right.
00:41:56Yeah.
00:41:57That's it.
00:41:58The ride's standing outside of my joint.
00:42:01Stash it.
00:42:02That's the idea.
00:42:04And you'd better change the license plates, too.
00:42:07Right away.
00:42:09Make it snappy, you know.
00:42:11It's okay.
00:42:12Good.
00:42:13Say, what about Krause?
00:42:15Hadn't we better get him over?
00:42:16He's a bad egg.
00:42:17Well, there's a sharp lawyer, and you're in a spot.
00:42:21All right.
00:42:21All right.
00:42:23How is he, doctor?
00:42:25Looks very serious.
00:42:32Hello?
00:42:33Yes, just a moment.
00:42:34Mr. Robeson, it's for you.
00:42:36Thanks.
00:42:38Hello?
00:42:40Oh, hello, Sheriff.
00:42:42Good. I hope they get him.
00:42:44Yeah, when I see this poor kid lying here, I...
00:42:48Fine.
00:42:52They've got a line on Bradley.
00:42:53Expect to arrest him any minute.
00:42:55Good.
00:43:12Well, don't you know I'm in here?
00:43:14Sure.
00:43:17Well, I've got to dress.
00:43:20Why'd you dress in the bathroom?
00:43:22Have you seen the bathroom?
00:43:24Well, dress here. I won't peek.
00:43:27Well, whose room is this supposed to be? Yours or mine?
00:43:31I think it's the Logan's idea that it ought to belong to both of us.
00:43:36Oh.
00:43:39Well?
00:43:44Perfectly all right. I won't bother you.
00:43:46I wasn't afraid you would.
00:43:50How's your ankle?
00:43:52Oh, better. I've taken the bandage off.
00:43:54Good.
00:44:03Well, here's hoping you've got willpower.
00:44:06Do you want me to have willpower?
00:44:10I like you better the way you were in the car last night.
00:44:15I'm getting to be a softy.
00:44:18Maybe I'll even end up by being kind and gentle.
00:44:22You still don't believe me, do you?
00:44:24About Robeson, I mean.
00:44:26Does it matter?
00:44:29Yes.
00:44:31Say, don't carry this modesty business too far.
00:44:34You know, I can't see a darn thing out this window but a brick wall.
00:44:38Well, you can look now.
00:44:41Thanks.
00:44:49Thanks.
00:45:05This is it.
00:45:13Ask them if they can use some ham and egg.
00:45:16All right.
00:45:27Let's go.
00:45:34Coppers.
00:45:39Hey, John.
00:45:40What?
00:45:40The coppers, beat it out that window.
00:45:42There's a fire escape below.
00:45:45Go on.
00:45:45Beat it, will you?
00:45:46Lil and I'll take care of her.
00:45:48Sure.
00:45:51Hey, you got the dough?
00:45:52Yeah, I'll be seeing you.
00:45:56Hey, come on you dames or your tip is met.
00:45:59I'd better open up or they'll be making toothpicks out of the landlord's best door.

01:03:19Come on down.
01:03:25You don't look very well.
01:03:27Headache still bothering you?

01:03:50Yeah, maybe this will pick you up.
01:03:51It may.
01:03:56You know, Louise, I've been worrying about you.
01:03:59I mean, I've been trying to cheer you up and you seem to want to avoid me.
01:04:02You seem so morbid.
01:04:03Oh, it's not that, Tony.
01:04:04I just feel a bit depressed.
01:04:07Was that the way I affect you?
01:04:08No, of course not.
01:04:10But I keep thinking about poor Dick upstairs.
01:04:13Isn't there any chance for him at all?
01:04:15The doctor doesn't seem to think so.
01:04:18Hasn't he come to at all?
01:04:19Not for a moment.
01:04:20That's what makes the case so hopeless.
01:04:22But supposing he does, I mean, even for a little while.
01:04:25Don't you think the police ought to be here to get a statement from him?
01:04:28What good would a statement do?
01:04:30It would clear Bradley.
01:04:32I'm sure Dick would realize that Bradley didn't mean to hurt him.
01:04:36There you go, thinking about Bradley again.
01:04:39Oh, it's not that, but I'd feel the same about anybody who was mixed up in a mess like this.
01:04:43So would I. Anybody else but Bradley.
01:04:46Mr. Robson, come quickly. He's regained consciousness.
01:04:49Well, get the doctor.
01:04:52No, no, you stay here.
01:04:53But please, can I?
01:04:54I said stay here!
01:04:55I mean, the slightest excitement might prove fatal.
01:05:09John!
01:05:11What are you doing here?
01:05:13I thought you were in the hospital.
01:05:15They told me you were.
01:05:16They told me you were here.
01:05:17I had to see for myself.
01:05:18But you don't understand.
01:05:19I understand well enough.
01:05:21And if I didn't, that'd explain anything I wanted to know.
01:05:24John, you don't think I came back here because of Robson?
01:05:26No, of course not.
01:05:28Please, you must let me explain.
01:05:29Oh, no.
01:05:30I listened to your stories once before and was sap enough to believe in you.
01:05:34I had you pegged right the moment I met you.
01:05:36You're nothing but a cheap little...
01:05:37Stop it.
01:05:38If you'd only listen to me.
01:05:47You stay out of this, John.
01:05:49You're only getting yourself into a worse jam.
01:05:51You got it off of your chest.
01:05:53Now, come on, let's get out of here before the cops catch up with us.
01:05:55It's a saint's there taining us.
01:06:09I told you to stay out of this.
01:06:14John!
01:06:14John!
01:06:16John!
01:06:17John!
01:06:42Hey, John!
01:06:43Scram!
01:06:43The bulls are here!
01:06:47All right, Bradley.
01:06:49Back to the hospital.
01:06:51But this time you're going to have a room with bars on the windows.
01:06:56Have it your own way.
01:06:59Wait.
01:06:59There's something you don't know.
01:07:00Now, you keep out of this, lady.
01:07:03He's trying to say something.
01:07:05You've got to listen.
01:07:06He'll tell you what happened.
01:07:08What is it, son?
01:07:09Don't let him hit me again.
01:07:11Please.
01:07:12Don't let him hit me again.
01:07:14What do you mean?
01:07:15Robeson.
01:07:16Robeson?
01:07:18He won't hit you again.
01:07:20He hit me.
01:07:21Robeson did?
01:07:22Yes.
01:07:23When?
01:07:24Just after we left the cabin.
01:07:26After you left my cabin?
01:07:27Yes.
01:07:28Why did he do that?
01:07:29We argued.
01:07:31I threatened to talk about our business.
01:07:34Some deals we had made.
01:07:37He was through with me.
01:07:39He was afraid I knew too much.
01:07:42Don't let him come near me.
01:07:44You'll be all right, son.
01:07:51Hey, that's...
01:07:52That's not bad with one hand.
01:07:54I bet you're pretty good with two.
01:08:01Hey, Ed.
01:08:03Throw some water or something on that guy
01:08:05so we don't have to carry him down to the station.
01:08:07Okay.
01:08:09Now, do you understand where I came back here?
01:08:12Don't rub it in.
01:08:13The minute I heard Conroy was in his house,
01:08:15I felt something was wrong.
01:08:17I understand, honey.
01:08:19Now, wait.
01:08:31That's a good girl.
01:08:40Hey, Logan.
