00:00Welcome to the video from the Auto Magazine Tuning Blog about the new Renault Australien.
00:05This time in the particularly elegant color Satan Schist Grey.
00:09Around two and a half years after its market launch, the Renault Austral has received a comprehensive facelift that brings with it a number of new features, both visually and technically.
00:19The compact SUV now follows Renault's current design language even more closely.
00:24This is evident, among other things, in the front, where more angular shapes and a vertically aligned LED daytime running light strip dominate.
00:33Like the Longer S, which is optionally available with up to seven seats, the design is based on the SUV coupe Renault Rafale, with which the Australian shares its underpinnings.
00:43The higher trim levels feature adaptive matrix LED headlights, which enable glare-free and situation-adapted illumination of the road.
00:56The bonnet, bumpers, radiator grille and front fenders have also been revised.
01:02At the rear, the redesigned trunk lid is particularly striking, as the taillights now take up more surface area.
01:08Two new paint colors, South Sea Blue and Satin Pearl White, expand the color spectrum.
01:17Starting with the second trim level, called Techno, a black contrasting roof is also available as an option.
01:24Inside, new front seats provide greater comfort, particularly through improved lateral support in the shoulder area.
01:30The seats also feature revised upholstery.
01:33In the SPRE Alpine variant, a small camera is integrated into the left-a-pillar as part of the driver recognition system.
01:43It recognizes saved profiles in the infotainment system and automatically adjusts settings such as preferred radio stations or driving modes.
01:50The cockpit remains fundamentally unchanged, with a vertically arranged central display retained, as does the Android automotive-based operating system with integrated Google services.
02:01The navigation system uses Google Maps with real-time data, voice commands are recognized via the Google Assistant, and additional apps can be installed via the Google Play Store.
02:13An internet connection is required for full functionality, although navigation also works without live data if there is no network connection.
02:25The interior space remains unchanged.
02:28The Renault Austral offers generous space, both in the front and in the rear.
02:32The rear seat bench can be manually adjusted by around 0.6 meters.
02:39The trunk volume is 527 L, or even 555 L with the mild hybrid petrol model.
02:47An optional mesh partition is available, allowing safe loading up to the roof and option not available from many competitors.
02:54The engine range remains unchanged.
02:58The entry-level model features a mild hybrid petrol engine with 4 cylinders and a displacement of 1.3 L.
03:05It produces 158 horsepower.
03:09Above this is the Renault Austral Full Hybrid Edge.
03:13This model is the most popular variant, accounting for around 80% of sales across Europe.
03:18In Germany, the share is around 50%.
03:20It uses a 1.2 L three-cylinder petrol engine with 131 horsepower.
03:28Supported by a 69 horsepower electric motor and another electric motor that acts as a starter generator and produces 25 horsepower.
03:38Energy is supplied by a battery with a capacity of around 2 kWh, which is charged while driving through recuperation and braking.
03:47There is still no plug-in hybrid variant.
03:50This is reserved for the Rafale.
03:54Diesel engines are also no longer found in the current model range.
03:59The revised Renault Austral impresses with noticeably improved noise comfort.
04:03This is due to new laminated glass front side windows, improved insulation, and modified engine mounts.
04:12The result is a significantly reduced noise level, which affects both the gasoline engine and wind and road noise.
04:18New door seals and aerodynamically optimized exterior mirrors further support this effect.
04:27The new front seats, like those already used in the Rafale, offer more comfort and lateral support thanks to softer padding and more strongly shaped side bolsters.
04:35The handling also benefits from the model update.
04:39Revised shock absorbers ensure better suspension compression, and an adjusted rebound damping setting reduces unnecessary body movement.
04:50This keeps the Australian firmly planted on the road.
04:53The optional 4-control rear axle steering increases driving stability at higher speeds by turning the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels after approximately 50 hours of mileage.
05:05At lower speeds, the steering movement reverses, significantly improving maneuverability and reducing the turning circle from 11.4 meters to 10.1 meters.
05:19Despite the numerous revisions, the price remains stable.
05:23The entry-level model with a mild hybrid petrol engine in the Evolution trim level starts at around €34,700.
05:30Above this price are the Tecno and Esper Alpine variants, both of which can also be combined with either engine variant.
05:39The SPE Alpine version, a full hybrid, costs just over €44,000.
05:44The test car in the video, equipped with almost all available extras, includes the matte gray paint in Satan Schist gray with a black roof, a head-up display, a panoramic glass roof without a sunroof function, all-wheel steering, and a Harman Kardon sound system.
06:03The list price is around €5,100.
06:08The revised version of the Renault Austral can be ordered now.
06:11The first vehicles are expected to be delivered to dealerships in early summer.
06:17At the same time, the facelift of the slightly larger Renault Sars, which is optionally available as a seven-seater, is also being launched.
06:27While the revised exterior design gives the Austral a more assertive and decisive appearance,
06:31it is above all the improvements to the interior and ride comfort that make the facelift special.
06:41Given the stable price, the Renault Austral remains aimed at customers who want to forego plug-in hybrids and still want a modern, comfortable compact SUV that can hold its own against competitors such as the VW Tiguan or the Hyundai Tucson.
