00:00Welcome to the video from the CarMagazine TuningBog on the topic of the VW ID.4 and E.D.5 facelift.
00:12As always, you can find the link to read the article in our magazine in the video description.
00:17The two electric SUVs from Volkswagen will undergo a comprehensive model update, but later than originally planned.
00:25And while Volkswagen already carried out a refresh for the ID.3 in 2023, the ID.4 and its sportier counterpart, the ID.5, were also supposed to receive a major overhaul this year.
00:40However, the major facelift has now been postponed until the end of 2026.
00:45This is intended to keep the two vehicles competitive and fresh until at least 2028 before the next generation on the new SSP platform debuts.
00:55Although the two models already received a technical update in October 2023, which included a new infotainment system and an Optima engine for the rear-wheel drive versions with the 77 kWh battery,
01:09these measures were not enough to keep sales figures stable.
01:17In Germany in particular, new registrations have fallen by more than 50% to the previous year.
01:24However, the delay in the major facelift is not related to the cost-cutting measures that Volkswagen is currently negotiating with the company,
01:32but rather to the scope of the planned changes.
01:36The design department under Andreas Mint has given the ID.4 and ID.5 a completely new look.
01:44The new models are intended to look closer to the upcoming ID.2 and appear more high-quality overall.
01:51The focus is on a clearer, more linear design language that departs from the rounded, ball-shaped, baroque elements of the previous designs.
02:00A significant leap in quality is also expected in the interior.
02:06In future, the dashboard will be extended further around the A-pillars and integrated almost seamlessly into the door panels.
02:14The infotainment system will also receive a completely new interface.
02:18The powertrain will also be optimized, new battery cells are intended to ensure a longer range, and overall more dynamics are being sought.
02:29Volkswagen insiders are already talking about progress that is said to be comparable to the switch from the golf arm to the golf apps.
02:35It is also interesting to note that Volkswagen originally planned to further develop the modular electric toolkit in a plus version and use it for the facelift of the ID.4 and ID.5 models.
02:48However, this strategy was discarded, as the planned improvements can also be implemented with the current platform.
02:56The comprehensive revisions are intended to ensure that both models remain competitive for several years to come.
03:02While the facelift for the ID.4 and ID.5 will be available at the end of 2026, the next generation of vehicles is expected in 2028.
03:13This will be based on the new SSP platform, which, among other things, offers an 800-volt architecture for particularly short charging times.
03:22The first Volkswagen on this platform is expected to be the successor to the ID.3.
03:28Internally, it is already referred to as the ID.Golf.
03:30Did you find the information about the VW ID.4 and ID.5 interesting?
