00:00Welcome to the Tuning Blog Video, where we're going to discuss why comparing the current BMW M5 G90 to the M5 F90 CS is complete nonsense.
00:17Two vehicles that both bear the legendary M5 badge, but couldn't be more different.
00:23Let's take a closer look.
00:25First of all, the BMW M5 G90 with its hybrid drive system is a completely different concept than the F90 M5 CS.
00:34Sure, a hybrid in the M5 has always been a controversial topic, and design issues are of course subjective.
00:41However, there are two facts that aren't subjective.
00:45First, the impressive speed that the G90 achieves despite its enormous weight of over 2,400 kg,
00:51and second, its design is a sporty everyday companion, not necessarily a racetrack vehicle.
00:58Even BMW confirms that most M5 owners hardly ever take their vehicles to the racetrack.
01:04The G90's priorities clearly lie elsewhere.
01:09The comparison with the F90 M5 CS, a special model that is uncompromisingly tuned for performance, was therefore extremely difficult.
01:16The F90 M5 CS was produced in 2022 in a limited edition of around 1,000 vehicles and was a stripped-down and upgraded version of the regular F90 M5.
01:27With special carbon ceramic brakes, harder anti-roll bars, firmer springs and 20-inch forged wheels and gold bronze,
01:36every detail was optimized for driving dynamics.
01:39It weighed around 1,854 kg and, with its 6,627 hp, accelerated from 0 to 96 kmh in just 2.6 seconds.
01:51Figures that are still impressive today.
01:53However, the fun also came at a corresponding price.
01:56With a base price of around 142,000 USDL, around 130,000 euros, the F90 M5 CS was already significantly higher than the standard M5.
02:07In many cases, hefty dealer surcharges were added, which could amount to up to $40,000 or $50,000.
02:14And now for the G90 M5.
02:16It is not a limited edition model, but a production vehicle with more power.
02:23A whopping 717 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque, which is an increase of 90 hp and 185 Nm compared to the F90 CS.
02:34But with its weight of 2,442 kg, the G90 carries considerably more fat on its ribs.
02:40The starting price is around 119,000 USD, about 110 euros, and is therefore cheaper than the CS.
02:50Nevertheless, the G90 is not a vehicle that can be compared to the F90 CS.
02:57One is a limited edition lightweight wonder for enthusiasts, the other a modern heavyweight hybrid for the road.
03:03Even if BMW were to release a CS version of the G90 at some point, the vehicle would have to lose a lot of weight.
03:12A few hundred kilos less would be quite appropriate here to make a meaningful comparison with the F90 CS possible at all.
03:20Until then, comparing these two vehicles is simply pointless.
03:25They are two completely different manifestations of the M5 concept and each pursues its own philosophy.
