00:00Welcome to the tuning blog video. Today, it's all about the new Rivian Air and R3X.

00:14Rivian's model range is currently more exciting than ever and even seems to be giving Tesla run

00:19for its money. With the boxy R2, which is set to hit the market in 2026 for around $41,000,

00:30and the subsequent introduction of the R3 for $31,500, Rivian is setting new standards in the

00:36electric car industry. The Rivian R3 is a mid-size crossover with more compact dimensions and an even

00:43lower starting price than the R2. The off-road version R3X will be available for around 41,000

00:52euros and is aimed at technology enthusiasts and off-road fans. The R3X is seen as the

01:01performance version of the R3 and is expected to impress both on and off-road. Rivian is currently

01:08touring various auto shows with prototypes of the upcoming R3, where selected visitors can get a

01:14first look at the new electric car. The R3 was unveiled last week at the Everything Electric

01:21Canada 2024 Expo, where noted tech expert Sandy Monroe took a closer look at the vehicle.

01:30Monroe praised the Rivian R3's build quality, noting that its components are perfectly matched.

01:35However, he emphasized that this is a showroom vehicle and a final verdict can only be made

01:42after inspecting a production model. The retro design with modern accents reminded Monroe of

01:49successful SUV conversions of yesteryear, such as the golf country. He was particularly impressed

01:56by one practical feature. By long pressing a button, the rear window of the tailgate can be opened

02:01separately. Ideal for quickly loading groceries. A recent test of the Rivian R3 and R3X also showed

02:11that the interior design and seating comfort are very impressive, especially for tall people.

02:18The Rivian Air and R3X come with a Naxid port, allowing users to use Tesla's supercharger network for

02:25longer journeys. Hopefully, Rivian will move the charging port to the driver's side of the R3,

02:33as planned for the RC before its launch. This would make charging at Tesla's superchargers even easier.

02:42As for the battery, Rivian plans to offer two battery packs for the R3.

02:46The larger pack is expected to provide a range of over 300 miles and, in its fastest configuration,

02:56accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3 seconds.

03:04The R3 will feature a structural battery based on Rivian's new 4695 cells,

03:10which promise significant improvements in energy density and performance.

03:15These new cells are a major step in Rivian's efforts to further increase the efficiency and

03:20performance of its vehicles. The R3X is expected to be available with only the most powerful battery pack.

03:29As for engine options, Rivian will offer a rear-wheel drive, dual-motor all-wheel drive,

03:35and three engine configurations, two rear, one front. The R3X will be available exclusively with

03:44the DRIME engine option and places a strong emphasis on performance both on and off-road.

03:52This variety of engine options allows buyers to select a vehicle that is tailored to their exact needs.

03:57In terms of pricing, the R3 will start at around $31,500 and can go up to $41,000 depending on battery

04:10and engine options. The R3X will range from $50,000 to $60,000 depending on equipment and finish.

04:28This pricing makes the vehicles attractive options in their segment.

04:34It is also interesting to note that the R3 is expected to qualify for the full US Federal

04:39Electric Vehicle Tax Credit of $7,500. This makes the vehicle even more attractive to potential buyers.

04:50In Canada, the R3 could qualify for the EZEF incentive of $5,000 Canadian dollars,

04:56approximately €3,600, which is also a nice bonus. The R3's charging capability is impressive.

05:06Rivian claims that the R3 can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes on suitable

05:11chargers. Overall, this is a reasonable charging time, which is expected to improve as Rivian continues

05:19to develop the 1695 cells and software. The R3 will also be equipped with both the NEX connector and CCS

05:28compatibility. However, a CCS to NAX adapter will be required to use CCS charging stations, which

05:36Rivian does not currently plan to include. It may therefore be necessary to use a third-party adapter

05:43unless Rivian offers its own solution. In terms of autonomy and self-driving capabilities,

05:50Rivian has developed an entirely new hardware system using the second generation of the R1 platform.

05:57This system includes 11 cameras, 5 radar sensors, and an updated computing unit.

06:05While Rivian has not yet revealed the exact autonomous capabilities that will be included in the R3,

06:10it is expected that they will be comparable to the current 2025 R1 vehicles.

06:18These include features such as surround vision, autonomous lane changing, and highway and traffic

06:23jam assistance systems, which are essentially advanced lane keeping assistance.

06:29Rivian is relying on hardware from MobileA for its autonomous system, specifically the IQ5Hi,

06:35also known as MobileA supervision. Additionally, Rivian's own computing package includes hardware from

06:42NVIDIA. This board is initially intended to remain in training mode and will only become functional when

06:48Rivian launches its own autonomous solution. The mobile hardware will initially be responsible for

06:54Rivian's autonomous functions. However, in the long term, Rivian plans to replace the mobile hardware,

07:01although the exact timing for this is still unclear. In a future post, we will dive deeper into

07:08Rivian's driver plus autonomous solution. It will be interesting to see how Rivian's autonomous

07:15technology will continue to evolve in the coming years. The R3 is set to go into production in 2027,

07:23with the R3X expected to hit the market in late 2026 or early 2027. First, however,

07:30Rivian will introduce the R2 in North America in mid-2026.

07:39The R2 is set to launch in Europe in late 2026, with deliveries in 2027. This same time frame is

07:47expected to apply to the R3 and R3X, with European deliveries in late 2027 or early 2028. Rivian is

07:55not currently accepting reservations for the R3 and R3X. However, it was mentioned that current owners

08:05will be prioritized for ordering. So if you're interested in a future R3 or R3X, it might be worth

08:14taking a look at the current R1T or R1S models. These vehicles could give you an idea of what Rivian

08:22has to offer in the future. In conclusion, the Rivian R3 and R3X represent a promising addition to

08:31the electric vehicle market. With attractive pricing, impressive technical specifications,

08:38and the ability to use the Tesla supercharger network, they could be a serious alternative to

08:43existing models. The combination of retro design and modern features could be exactly what many

08:50drivers are looking for. We are incredibly excited to see the Rivian Air and R3X in the future.
