00:05Today we're talking about the new Hyundai Nexo, the second generation hydrogen SUV.
00:11Even though vehicles with fuel cell technology still lead a niche existence,
00:16Hyundai is undeterred in driving development in this field.
00:20Back in 2018, the Korean manufacturer launched its second hydrogen-powered SUV, the first Nexo.
00:27Now, seven years later, the new addition follows with design,
00:33modernized technology and noticeable improvements in performance and comfort.
00:38Visually, Hyundai is taking a significant step towards a striking presence with the new Nexo.
00:44The new design language called Art of Steel is intended to reflect the strength and
00:49malleability of steel and was first presented with the Inesium concept vehicle.
00:53The second generation of the Nexo adopts many of its elements and features a beefy front end,
01:01angular headlights and striking daytime running lights in a square look.
01:05The new front apron is visually very reminiscent of the larger SUV model Santa Fe.
01:12Striking side lines, a curved rear end,
01:15and horizontal groove patterns on the flanks underscore the vehicle's robust character.
01:19Hyundai offers six exterior colors for the new Nexo,
01:24creamy white pearl, phantom black pearl, amazon gray metallic, ocean indigo matte,
01:30echotronic gray pearl, and goyo copper pearl.
01:34Despite the new SUV look, the Nexo's exterior dimensions remain within its SUV range.
01:39With a length of around 4.7 meters, a width of around 1.9 meters,
01:45a height of just over 1.6 meters without the roof rails,
01:48and a wheelbase of just under 2.8 meters,
01:51the vehicle offers generous space, particularly in the trunk.
01:55Between 1,000 and 1,700 L of volume can be used with the rear seats folded down.
02:02For the first time in a hydrogen-powered Hyundai model,
02:04a trailer hitch is now also installed, allowing the vehicle to tow up to 1,000 kg.
02:12A fuel cell drive system continues to operate under the hood,
02:16but the system has been extensively revised compared to its predecessor.
02:21The fuel cell now produces 110 kW, a 16% increase.
02:27Combined with the battery's increased output of 80 kW,
02:30this results in a total output of 258 horsepower.
02:35The new electric motor itself delivers 204 horsepower,
02:39a significant improvement over the first generation.
02:42This power is reflected in the driving dynamics.
02:46The sprint from 0 to 100 km per hour now takes 7.8 seconds.
02:50Previously, it took 9.2 seconds.
02:53However, the increased performance also affects the range.
02:56Despite a larger hydrogen tank,
02:58the official range has been reduced from 166 km to 6,545 km.
03:04This means that the Nexo remains suitable for everyday use,
03:08even if its efficiency has decreased somewhat.
03:12Inside, the new Nexo presents itself as modern and spacious.
03:16The interior feels more airy.
03:18The instrument panel design is noticeably cleaner.
03:21At its center is a curved display with two 12.3-inch screens,
03:27which houses the latest generation of the infotainment system.
03:32Over-the-air updates ensure that the software is always up-to-date.
03:36There's also a head-up display that projects driver information
03:39onto a 12-inch screen directly in the driver's field of vision.
03:43Also new is voice control,
03:47which uses artificial intelligence
03:49to enable natural communication with the vehicle.
03:53Two smartphones can be charged inductively
03:55in the center console simultaneously.
03:59Active cooling prevents the devices from overheating.
04:03A 15-watt USB port is also available.
04:07A sound system with a total of 14 speakers ensures the right sound,
04:13while a host of modern assistance systems ensure safety and comfort.
04:19Hyundai has remained tight-lipped about the price so far.
04:22The current Nexo starts at around €777,500.
04:27A slight premium for the new generation is not unlikely.
04:32A starting price above €75,000 seems realistic.
