00:00Welcome to the video from the Car Magazine Tuning Block about the Toyota Crown Estate.
00:07This model cleverly combines the characteristics of a station wagon with those of an SUV and offers
00:12a choice of hybrid or plug-in hybrid drive in Japan. With its market launch in Japan,
00:19the Toyota Crown model family is now complete, supplemented by the crossover, sport and sedan
00:23variants. The Crown Estate is probably the most practical choice when it comes to everyday
00:29usability. It measures 4.9 meters in length, 1.9 meters in width and 1.6 meters in height,
00:38which places it between the Toyota Rayfier and the Harrier. Visually, the Japanese version of
00:44the Crown Estate is very similar to the US version Crown Signia. The distinctive hammerhead front grille
00:51has been retained, while the differences can be seen in details such as the missing yellow
00:55indicators and the modified rear lettering. Inside, the driver can expect a modern digital cockpit
01:02landscape with 21.3-inch displays and a steering wheel with the crown emblem.
01:08The vehicle offers space for 5 passengers and has a 570-liter trunk. By folding down the rear seat,
01:16the cargo volume can be increased to around 1,500 L. Particularly practical for outdoor enthusiasts,
01:23an extendable camping bench with table can be ordered as an option. This equipment, as well as the optional
01:30soft cargo area mat, is reserved exclusively for the Japanese version. The same applies to the sporty
01:37body kit and the eye-catching 21-inch wheels from Modelista. There are 10 color options for the exterior
01:44paintwork to choose from, including five single-tone and five two-tone combinations.
01:50Particularly exclusive is the precious metal and massive gray design, which is only available for
01:55the plug-in hybrid and is combined with special 21-inch alloy wheels.
02:01Inside, there are three upholstery options, black, saddle brown and a nostalgic grayish blue with a cloud
02:07pattern. The chassis is based on the TNG car platform and offers adaptive variable dampers as
02:13well as dynamic rear axle steering for improved comfort and maneuverability.
02:19Unlike the Toyota Crown Signia, which is only available as a hybrid,
02:23the Crown Estate is available as both a conventional hybrid and a plug-in hybrid.
02:28Both versions rely on a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine in combination with two electric
02:33motors and all-wheel drive. The gasoline engine produces 190 horsepower in the hybrid and 177 horsepower
02:40in the plug-in hybrid. The front electric motor delivers around 50% more power in the crown crossover
02:46and crown sport with 182 horsepower, while the rear motor contributes 54 horsepower.
02:52The crucial difference lies in the battery.
02:56The plug-in hybrid has a larger 51 ampere hour lithium-ion battery,
03:01which enables a purely electric range of up to 89 kilometers according to the WLTC standard.
03:08The battery is installed under the vehicle floor, so that the interior space is not restricted
03:13compared to the hybrid. The fuel consumption figures are also impressive. The hybrid achieves around 5L
03:20per 100 kilometers, while the plug-in hybrid is even more economical at 4.9L. The Toyota Crown Estate can
03:28already be ordered in Japan. The hybrid version starts at around 39,600 euros, while the plug-in hybrid
03:35costs around 50,300 euros. For comparison, the US-based Toyota Crown Signia starts at around 40,100 euros in the US.
03:47As always, you can find the link to read the article in our magazine in the video description.
