00:00Telecommunications shop trader Liao Hoksoon was charged in the Johor Bahru Sessions Court on Thursday with offering a 600 ringgit bribe to an enforcement officer for not taking action against him.
00:15The 28-year-old accused allegedly gave the bribe to the enforcement assistant officer from the Iskandar Putteri City Council, as the accused shop was operating without a valid license.

00:32The offence was allegedly committed at a premises in Taman Prindustrian Tanjung Pelepas, Gelangpata, in December last year.
00:40The charge was framed under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act, and the accused faces a maximum imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of five times the amount of the bribe or 10,000 ringgit, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
00:55The accused also faces an alternative charge under the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of up to one-quarter of the maximum punishment for the main offence, a fine or both if convicted.
