The Department of Health (DOH) on Oct. 30, 2025 sign a grant agreement with the Embassy of Japan to deploy ultraportable X-ray units equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) for tuberculosis (TB) screening in hard-to-reach communities across the country. Secretary Teodoro Herbosa said that under the grant, 20 ultraportable X-ray machines by Japanese technology brand FujiFilm will be delivered to geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. The battery-operated units are equipped with advanced AI computer-aided detection (CAD) software, capable of instantly analyzing chest X-rays and flagging suspected TB cases.
