00:22Today, we're going to take a look at how these four vehicles fared in the latest tests conducted by the prestigious IIHS.
00:30Known for its rigorous safety testing, the Institute recently updated its testing methods for moderate overlap frontal and side impact tests.
00:43Unfortunately, none of the models managed to earn the coveted Top Safety Pick Plus designation for 2024.
00:49Despite improved safety features, the new Kia Sorento narrowly missed out on receiving the IIHS's top honor.
00:55As part of the updated testing, Kia improved the Sorento's rear seatbelts in July.
01:05Unfortunately, the model still only achieved an average rating, as the lap belt shifted from the hip to the abdominal area during the test,
01:12which created a risk of head or neck injuries for the rear seat occupant.
01:16Nevertheless, the Sorento earned the title of Top Safety Pick by achieving a rating of good in four categories and acceptable in two others.
01:29While this is a minor success for Kia, the Sorento was denied the Top Safety Pick Plus label.
01:34The Nissan Altima has a rather disappointing record in the new safety tests.
01:42In the revised side impact test, the Altima received a rating of poor and also only performed marginally in the area of frontal crash prevention.
01:49Although the Altima also received a marginal rating in some areas, the result is a setback for Nissan,
01:58which shows how important it is to invest even more in the highly competitive safety segment.
02:04The Acura ZDX, closely related to the Honda ProLodge, was at least able to achieve a good rating in the new moderate overlap frontal crash test.
02:13Acura achieved this in part through improved headlights, which are now rated as good, at least for models manufactured after September.
02:24However, the ZDX only achieved an acceptable rating for the front collision avoidance system,
02:29indicating that there is still room for improvement here to come closer to the top safety pick plus.
02:35The Honda ProLog, the sister model of the ZX, is in a similar situation.
02:40It also achieved a good rating in the moderate front collision avoidance system test,
02:44but also only an acceptable rating in the pedestrian collision avoidance system test.
02:49Unfortunately, the ProLog only received an acceptable rating for its headlights, not the good rating of the ZDX.
02:56This is a crucial point, because in today's world, modern and well-functioning headlights play an increasingly important role in safety.
03:03Although none of these vehicles were able to receive the top safety pick award,
03:10the manufacturers are committed to making further improvements and achieving these standards.
