00:00Both the Knicks and the Bucs are coming off their first loss of the early season and tonight they square up out in Milwaukee.
00:07Is this just one game of 82 or does the evil genius Leon Rose have a little something up his sleeve as part of his plan to potentially get Giannis to New York?
00:18Let's talk Giannis Bowl and tonight's New York Post Sports Knicks Watch Party with Dexter Henry, host of New York Got Game.
00:24Dex, what's going on, my man? How you feeling, bro?
00:26I'm feeling good, man. Feeling good. Had a good weekend and I'm good. Ready to get back into some basketball. Can't complain.
00:33All right, Dex, you got a great game to have for the watch party tonight.
00:37But when you watch this game, big game in the East, is this more than just a Knicks versus Bucs?
00:43Like, do you think the Knicks try and use this game to show Giannis that their roster construction is better than Milwaukee's
00:50and some of the pieces that he could potentially be playing with in New York if all falls apart?
00:56With the Bucs.
00:58So, Brandon, you know this. Players are going to say it's just another game, right?
01:02We're going to hear that.
01:03And it's not really just another game because of all the talk that's gone on around the Knicks
01:09and could they pursue Giannis and Giannis saying that the Knicks were on his wish list of teams that he wanted to go to early this summer
01:16and all this other stuff.
01:18I don't think this is one where the Knicks are trying to show something.
01:21I think it's more where Giannis is trying to show the Bucs that, hey, what's the gap between these two teams?
01:28And Giannis had some comments the other day in which he said, okay, the Cavs are expected to be at the top of the East as well as the Knicks,
01:35but they haven't earned anything yet.
01:36And he's absolutely right about that.
01:38But he also said he's trying to compete.
01:40He said good teams do not lose two games in a row.
01:43And that's interesting that he said this before this game against the Knicks.
01:47So I think he has something to show.
01:49He wants to show Bucs management like, hey, look at the roster you have around me.
01:53This doesn't fit my expectations or what I want right now.
01:56And if you don't get your act together and you don't put a winner around me or better pieces around me than what is there in Milwaukee,
02:04I will look and I might try to push and have a trade demand to go to New York.
02:09Now, Giannis hasn't done that yet.
02:11There's no reporting on this yet.
02:12We will see how this season plays out.
02:14Giannis is a very competitive guy.
02:16He obviously wants to win.
02:17But I think it's more about the Bucs looking at Giannis and what is around him than the Knicks trying to show him.
02:23The Knicks, I think, feel good about their roster.
02:25They know that their roster is good.
02:26They know where they're expected to compete.
02:29But I do think a showing is good for the Knicks just in terms of them wanting to bounce back tonight.
02:34But I'm sure Giannis is going to be fired up to show the Knicks, hey, this is what you could have if you do want me.
02:40And Milwaukee, if you don't put the right pieces around me, I may want to go someplace like the Big Apple.
02:46So there's a whole game within a game for us to watch tonight.
02:51And you're talking about good teams don't lose two in a row.
02:54That's what Giannis said.
02:55So the Knicks are in a position to where, all right, you lost in Miami, can't lose to the Bucs if you want to be considered a good team.
03:03In his words, they're coming off of a pretty poor three-point shooting night down in the 305 decks.
03:09That's been a point of emphasis for this team this season with this Mike Brown offensive scheme.
03:14If they don't shoot the three-ball better tonight, is that a cause for concern, or do you feel like it's still too early in the season?
03:25Still too early in the season.
03:27I think that I like what I'm seeing from the offense right now with the Knicks.
03:31I like the ball movement.
03:33It is much different than what you saw from Tom Thibodeau.
03:36I like the player movement.
03:37I like the pace they're trying to play with.
03:39It's still not there yet in the half court.
03:42We saw some good opportunities for them in terms of transition on Friday night against the Celtics.
03:47Look, Mike Brown said he wanted to get up more threes.
03:49He wants his team to play with more pace.
03:51And when you get up a lot of threes, as they did on Sunday, and there were some ones that were quality, and there were some others that were contested.
03:58They had 54 threes they got up.
04:00Sometimes you're going to have games where you miss a lot of threes.
04:03And it's the old saying, you live by the three, you die by the three.
04:06Well, on Sunday, down in Miami, they die by the three.
04:08And, look, there were some makes that Carlton Towns went 2 of 8 from downtown.
04:13I thought he had a lot of good wide-open looks.
04:15I know on the broadcast, Walt Clyde Frazier was saying that, you know, he was shooting a little bit deep and far.
04:20But Towns is one of the best shooting big men of all time, and he's got the range.
04:23He had good looks.
04:24He just didn't hit them.
04:25I thought a lot of Knicks had good looks.
04:27There are some Knicks who are struggling with their shot.
04:29Jordan Clarkson, Gershon Yabusele has not been great in terms of the shooting right now.
04:34So you're wondering that.
04:35But it is three games.
04:36The Knicks have won two out of the three games.
04:37Let's see if they can bounce back tonight.
04:39I think the thing to watch, Brandon, is, okay, if they are shooting this higher volume of threes, are they just falling in love with that?
04:47What's their shot diet like?
04:48Are they then trying to mix it up?
04:50Are they trying to go inside?
04:51I thought on Sunday against the Heat, they fell in love too much with the three.
04:55They had quality looks.
04:57They didn't hit them, and that's going to happen sometimes.
04:59But you want to see, is the team going to adjust when they understand that that shot is not falling and go to something else to diversify their offense?
05:06Now, these are things that still got to work out.
05:08This is a new offense.
05:09Mike Brown has said the defense is way ahead of the offense, and the numbers reflect that.
05:13The Knicks are currently, I know it's three games, fifth in defensive rating, according to Cleaning the Glass in the league.
05:19They are ranked 23rd in offense.
05:21So the defense seems to be way ahead of the offense.
05:23And you know how this goes, Brandon.
05:25Sometimes that takes time, especially when you're implementing a new system in any sport.
05:29So I think the offense will get better.
05:31But the bones of what they're doing, the player movement, the quality of shots they're creating, I like it.
05:36They just have to stick with it.
05:38Next, I know this is a new system, but it looks like they're trying to take the whole Celtics blueprint, live and die by the three-pointers.
05:45So do you feel like they're trying to be too much like the Celtics to compete with them, or is that just the new norm in the NBA?
05:52It's more of the latter to me.
05:55It's a new norm.
05:56And listen, that doesn't mean everybody should do it, right?
05:58This doesn't mean that it's cut for everybody, because I see the point that you're trying to get at here a little bit, Brandon, is that the Celtics had great personnel to go five out.
06:06Everybody can't play five out in that way and spread the court, or has the shooters necessarily to do that.
06:11I do like the fact that the Knicks are trying to shoot more threes than they did before.
06:15This is a team that averaged 36 threes a game last year.
06:18I don't know if they need to get high as what we saw on Sunday with 54, but I think getting around 40 to 44 a game could be nice.
06:27I think you'd want to get a nice volume of threes.
06:29For me, it's always about what's the quality of threes that you're generating.
06:32If you're taking a lot of contested threes, those are not good shots.
06:36But if you're generating open threes, which the Knicks were getting in Miami, right?
06:39They were getting into the paint.
06:40They were kicking out.
06:42There were some open threes and some really good looks.
06:44If you're getting a good amount of quality threes where you're open, that's fine with me.
06:49But to your point, Brandon, you want to play to the strengths of your team.
06:54Everybody can't beat Boston.
06:55Everybody doesn't have the personnel that Boston had the last couple of years.
06:58And I think that's where some teams can get in trouble and just saying, hey, let's just get a high volume of threes.
07:03But what kind of threes are you getting?
07:06And I think if you're getting quality ones, you're happy with that.
07:08If you're getting contested ones, that's not what you want.
07:11They added a lot of pieces to the roster.
07:14Depth got deeper.
07:16Player availability was something that we thought we could expect week in, week out.
07:22This year, we really haven't seen this team play at full strength just yet.
07:26Mitch Robb is out tonight due to injuries.
07:29Yabasele, Deuce, and Cat are all questionable.
07:32I know we're only four games in, but we really haven't seen this team at full go just yet.
07:38Do you think that calls for concern or do you think that that could actually help them in the back end of the season?
07:44So I said this on our live show that we did next weekly live on Thursday.
07:49Some calls for concern, Brandon, because the Mitchell Robinson thing is just weird right now.
07:54And the fact that he has not played and he was being called load management before the season even started.
08:00That situation has me a little bit concerned.
08:03The fact that Josh Hart is back in the fold right now and has been given a lot of good energy is good.
08:08A little concerned about his shooting.
08:10He seems to not want to shoot any threes and he's dealing with a finger injury.
08:14That is a little bit of a concern.
08:16As far as Cat, who we know is playing with a quad strain.
08:20Yabusele is also questionable and Deuce is out for personal reasons.
08:25Those are not as much a concern for me.
08:28I think that, look, this is something that is going to take time for this team to get healthy.
08:31You want to see how this team can look with Mitchell Robinson.
08:33I just talked about how they're fifth in defensive rating through three games.
08:36I think a lot of people, if you think the Knicks could be a good defensive team,
08:39you thought that would be with Mitchell Robinson in the lineup.
08:42But it's still early.
08:44I won't say I'm concerned.
08:45Mitchell Robinson is the one part, though, Brandon, that I'm a little bit concerned about.
08:49Because we still just don't have clarity in the media about what's going on with him right now
08:55and when he's going to play.
08:56There's been no timetable for his return.
08:58So he hasn't played yet in one game.
09:00And we thought we'd see a lot of that double big lineup with him and Cat in the starting lineup.
09:06We haven't yet to see that.
09:07So I think it's about fans want to see these different lineups that Mike Brown is going to deploy.
09:12The depth is going to be tested.
09:13And you saw some of that on Sunday night, right?
09:15Ariel Huporty and also Tyler Kolek.
09:18They didn't look as great in those games, but they are getting valuable experience.
09:22So that's something I think that could bode well for the Knicks down the road.
09:25If they do get healthy and they are, they do have everybody back at full strength.
09:30It could be good that some of these young guys are getting reps that could help them down the stretch.
09:35But right now, I would say overall about the injuries, my concern level is probably about a five.
09:40In terms of Mitchell Robinson, though, my concern level is probably up to about eight or nine because we still don't know what's going on with that.
09:48So we got to keep an eye on it.
09:49Load management at the beginning of the season.
09:52I know, right?
09:52That's a first to me.
09:54That's absolutely wild.
09:55Hopefully they can have some sort of transparency because, you know, this is New York.
09:59People will run with the storylines.
10:00And then, you know, why tell the truth when the lie is more entertaining?
10:05So, but tonight you got the live stream and the watch party decks telling people how they're going to turn up.
10:10How can they turn up with you guys tonight?
10:12All right.
10:12We're going to have another fun one tonight.
10:14Another live Knicks watch party.
10:17Myself, Brian Fonseca.
10:18We will be in studio.

10:28Check him out there.
10:29He'll be with us in studio watching the Knicks.
10:31Bucks, we're going to talk about a lot of stuff.
10:33We're going to talk about this game.
10:34We're going to talk about Giannis.
10:35Should Giannis come to the Knicks?
10:37Should the Knicks go after Giannis?
10:38Do they need Giannis?
10:39There's a lot around this game.
10:40It should be a fun one.
10:41It's a nice early season test for the Knicks.
10:43It's a good bounce back spot for them.
10:45They looking for their first road win of the season.
10:48Can they start off three and one?
10:50It'll be very interesting to see what the Knickerbocks do.
10:52But come watch us.
