04:04We're getting you all the updates over the next 30 minutes on Cyclone Monta.
04:25It's expected to make landfall any time now.
04:28Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are on a high alert triggering precautionary evacuations
04:33and post-landfall preparations.
04:35Let's begin by rounding up for you all the latest developments.
04:39So Cyclone Monta is expected to make landfall between Machili Patnam and Kalinga Patnam.
04:43This is near Kakinada.
04:44Any time in Andhra Pradesh the landfall process will begin.
04:49Cyclone Monta's speed is increased now.
04:51And the coastal towns are witnessing raids and harsh winds.
04:55Wind speeds are expected to go right up to 110 kilometers per hour.
05:03The cyclone making landfall near Kakinada is expected to cause widespread damage
05:07and that's why the entire area has been evacuated.
05:13The city of Chennai also seeing the impact of Cyclone Monta
05:17has led to schools being shut down for the day in the city.
05:20Let's take a look at what's happening in Odisha
05:25where the Puri Beach has been placed on high alert.
05:28No one's allowed to enter the area due to the cyclone threat.
05:34Flight operations have also been affected.
05:3618 flights from Shamsabad in Telangana to Andhra Pradesh have been cancelled.
05:41Roots that have been affected are those to Vijaywada, Vishakapatnam and Rajamundri.
05:45Return flights to Shamsabad are also suspended.
05:50So Cyclone Monta is now intensified.
05:57It's a severe cyclonic storm.
05:59So you can only imagine the kind of damage that it will create.
06:03As is always the case with this kind of a storm with a cyclone,
06:06you're going to be seeing wind speeds picking up
06:08and that's what causes the maximum damage.
06:10The wind speeds rise right up in this case to about 110 kilometers per hour.
06:16Through the day, our reporters have been on ground
06:18in the worst affected parts along the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha
06:22to give you a sense of what the situation is
06:25and what's been the impact of the cyclone so far.
06:28The landfall is going to begin any time now.
06:30But take a look at what's been happening through the day.
06:33And this is the situation through the day.
06:35Imagine what it's going to be like in the next few hours.
06:37As we move to mind Если movie go on and move to shall we still happen right away.
06:47And with the wind speeds not torado and over the next few hours.
06:52To the speed limit of 90 km per hour to up to 110 km per hour.
07:21That's the speed that the cyclone Monsa effect is said to be as well.
07:26I am here to say that it is an unfinished garment.
07:29I know it is a setting stop.
07:31Most of the situation on the ground.
07:33Special nodal officers have been deployed across 90 districts.
07:38Right from the coastal town of Nellon into the coastal town of Sivakulam as well.
07:43You can see just how harsh the sea is right now.
07:48And what we are expecting is towards later this evening is only going to be even more harsh as well.
07:55The sea here is extremely rough and the wind speed is intensifying with every passing hour.
08:02Now here the storm.
08:03The cyclone Mota has already intensified into a severe storm.
08:09And just 100 to 150 km away from this particular seashore.
08:13As you can see the impact has already begun.
08:16Heavy rains have lashed the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh.
08:21Where the IMD has now predicted that the landfall may take place in next few hours.
08:26The effects of cyclone Mota are being felt across Chennai bringing city-wide spells of rain.
08:32The cyclone's effect is also extended to surrounding districts of Chennai.
08:37Chengalpetur, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupattur, Vilupuram, Velour, Tiruvannamalai, Vilupuram and Virudhunagar districts.
08:46While there has been widespread rainfall, Chennai has not reported significant waterlogging fortunately so far.
08:53Cyclone Mota is almost 270 km off the coast of Andhra Pradesh.
08:57And it is actually moving at a speed of 15 km per hour.
09:01We are currently standing at a location called as Broken Bridge.
09:04On the other side you can also see how rough the sea is also at this point.
09:07And as we speak this is a location where the Chief Minister MK Stalin visited the spot twice to make sure this place is not covered by any debris.
09:16In fact that is the reason you could see so much machinery are at work constantly making sure that the debris and sand that is collected at this mouth is immediately removed.
09:26This beach remains to be absolutely desolate.
09:29Since yesterday people have not been allowed to come anywhere close to the beach.
09:33As you can see surges in the sea and high tides could be witnessed and its situation will only aggravate as we move closer to the landfall time.
09:43It is expected that by today evening or late evening the landfall will occur in Machli Patanam in Andhra Pradesh.
09:50But it will also have its impact here in Gopalpur.
09:54And this will also be affected.
09:55So keeping that in mind all possible measures have been taken by the authority.
10:03Okay and remember there is Andhra Pradesh that will bear the brunt of cyclone mantra.
10:12Which is why right now all efforts are underway to ensure that there are no casualties when the cyclone makes landfall.
10:18The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan took stock of the situation.
10:25As in fact they held a meeting with all officials to understand really what will be the impact of the cyclone when it makes landfall.
10:32All particularly near Kakinada.
10:35The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has directed officials to ensure they use tech also to provide all necessary help to anyone aggrieved as a result of this cyclone.
10:45Let me bring in our reporters from the ground who have been tracking the movement of the cyclone and getting your ground reports as well.
10:52Apoorva Jai Chandran is joining us live from Kakinada.
10:55That's where in fact the cyclone will be making landfall.
10:57Also Abdul Bashir, another location that will bear the brunt, maximum brunt of the cyclone is Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
11:04He's joining us live from that very location.
11:06We also have Tapasen Gupta who's getting us the latest updates from Gopalpur in Odisha as well.
11:13Good evening.
11:14Thank you all for joining us.
11:15Apoorva, I'd like to begin with you on the current situation.
11:18When are we expecting the cyclone to make landfall?
11:22Well, Akshita, in fact, cyclone Montha is continuing on its rage as it's all set to make its landfall.
11:32Around the estimated time between 11.30 and 1.30 tonight, that's the time frame that is being given.
11:40The landfall has already started is what we are getting to learn, but it is still going to take a couple of more hours, over four hours for the effect to be actually seen in its ultimate reality.
11:54And that's the reality that we are seeing out here as well.
11:56Kakinada, which is one of the closest points for landfall that is predicted here, is also bearing the brunt.
12:02In fact, I am at one of these relief centers that has been set up by the state government that you have a medical camp that has been set up, you know, drinking, clean drinking water and medical facilities that have been provided for the people here in Kakinada, rural, where I am at.
12:17In fact, officials throughout the day have been circling not only this relief camp, but also several other relief camps and medical centers as such to ensure that, you know, people out here are, you know, going ahead and given.
12:32Let me remind you, this is also an alert message that is going out simultaneously across mobile phones for the people there to ensure that people in these areas, in these low-lying areas are evacuated to safety as well.
12:46All of these important updates that are being given at a time when the cyclone Montha is absolutely going to see its full effect that will be going on in just a short while from now.
12:59Stay with me. I'll also bring in Abdul Bashir. He is joining us live from Machile Patnam, another location that the Med Department has warned will be, in fact, hit the most by this particular cyclone.
13:11Essentially, the trajectory of the cyclone is that it's going to be hitting just below Vizag.
13:17So, where Kakinada is, where Machile Patnam is, that's where, in fact, the cyclone, the eye of the storm will actually pass.
13:24So, the worst, Abdul, will be, in fact, at midnight, we understand, though the Med Department has confirmed their wind speeds have already picked up.
13:31Well, Akshita, as we can see that this cyclone Montha is right now moving north-north-westwards with a speed of 15 km per hour for the past 6 hours.
13:45And right now, the position that the latest bulletin has been issued is that it is just south-south-eastwards of Machile Patnam at 50 km.
13:54It is just a 50 km distance which the cyclone is right now, a severe storm that is approaching Machile Patnam first.
14:01It is going to hit Machile Patnam.
14:03Right now, where I'm standing, the speed of wind is around 21 km.
14:06But when the storm hits, it would be around 90 to 110 km per hour.
14:12So, that would be the impact, 5 times more than this speed.
14:15Now, in this speed, it is quite difficult for me to stand steadily when the wind during the storm hits the coastal area here in Machile Patnam.
14:25It will become very difficult for people also to move out on the roads.
14:29Now, the power, the electricity has been cut off in the whole district, the area here.
14:34And what we are learning is that thousands of people have been already evacuated from these low-lying areas.
14:40Now, it's not showering, but heavy rains to extremely heavy rains are expected when the storm is set to make a landfall.
14:47That is around 3 hours or 3 to 4 hours.
14:51Between 3 to 4 hours, the landfall is expected with the speed that the storm is right now moving towards Machile Patnam.
14:57So, this is a situation right now where 1,419 villages and 44 towns are said to be affected with this cyclone hitting the, you know, making landfall here.
15:09And thousands of people evacuated.
15:11All the teams are alert on ground.
15:13We have been to the control room where we have seen all the departments working together.
15:17Correct.
15:18I must highlight here that in the last few times that we've seen these kind of storms and cyclones hitting either the east coast or the west coast, we've been better prepared.
15:31Our cyclone preparedness, our response to these kind of disasters has definitely improved.
15:35And let's hope that's the case with this one too, that we see minimum impact or damage being reported.
15:41Tapas is joining us live from Gopalpura in Odisha, along the Odisha coast also.
15:46There is going to be a heavy rainfall as well as very strong winds.
15:51Tapas, what's the current situation?
15:53We've been seeing your ground reports, particularly along the coastal areas where already wind speeds have picked up.
16:02Well, yes, absolutely, Akshita.
16:04We are standing at the Gopalpura beach and I'll tell you that the Gopalpura beach, it's a partial blackout.
16:09A little while back, all the electricity connections were cut off.
16:12The towering lights have been brought down as a matter of precaution.
16:16And on the other hand, the sea is rough.
16:19And if you can see like a small dot of light, that's the Coast Guard ship stationed.
16:26A little while back, it came to that place and it will remain stationed there.
16:29We've been told by the administration as a precautionary measure.
16:32And as far as Gopalpura's geographical situation is concerned, whether any cyclone hits directly to Gopalpura or adjacent state in Andhra Pradesh, Gopalpura also always feels the brunt.
16:46And since last one hour, the wind speed have gained.
16:49Gusty winds can be felt.
16:51And apart from that, torrential rain also happening every now and then.
16:56You can see police is continuing with their patrolling all through the day today.
17:00And it's night time now.
17:02Absolutely, this area has been evacuated except journalists and officials from police department.
17:08Nobody is allowed here to stay anywhere close to this beach because in and around this vicinity of Gopalpura Beach, there are lots of trees.
17:16And it has a history of uprooting trees and damaging properties.
17:21But today, the chief minister of Odisha held a high-level meeting.
17:25And he said categorically that the state government has a zero-casualty policy as far as the cyclone is concerned.
17:32All measures have been taken.
17:33Cyclone shelters have been prepared.
17:36People in some places have been shifted to cyclone shelter.
17:40And other places have also been kept on standby.
17:43The NDRF, the SDRF have been kept on standby to deal with any kind of eventualities.
17:48Though this storm will make a landfall in Andhra Pradesh.
17:53But Odisha also will be badly hit.
17:55It's better to be prepared at all points right now to ensure that there's minimum casualties.
18:00I request Apoorwa, Abdul and Tapas to just stay with me.
18:04I want to get a sense of what the current situation is and what's going to happen in the coming hours.
18:09Because as Apoorwa, Abdul and Tapas just told you, it's late into the night that you'll actually feel the maximum impact of the cyclone.
18:17So what we've seen so far, just a trailer of what's coming in the next few hours.
18:22Dr. Mritunjay Mohapatra, Director General of the Med Department, the IMD chief, is joining us on this broadcast.
18:29Dr. Mohapatra, thank you for joining us.
18:31Just tell us first, considering Andhra Pradesh is going to be hit directly by the cyclone,
18:36when will the worst be over for the state?
18:42The severe cyclonic storm, Mantha, will hit Andhra Pradesh coast near Kakinada around evening to night of today.
18:56Under its influence, already gale winds speed reaching 80 km per hour is prevailing along and off Andhra Pradesh coast.
19:04And near the center of the cyclone, it is 90 to 100 km per hour.
19:09So at the time of landfall, which will be completed by midnight of today,
19:14the wind speed will go on increasing up to 90 to 100 km per hour,
19:18gusting to 110 km per hour along and off Andhra Pradesh coast.
19:23And especially the area about 100 km to the north of Kakinada and to the south of Kakinada.
19:29This wind speed can cause uprooting of trees, breaking of tree branches,
19:35and also large-scale damage to thatched houses, harts and slums.
19:39It can have the partial disruption in telecommunications and power communications.
19:47There can be uprooting or bending of poles.
19:48And in addition to this structural damage, there could be damage to the standing crops, etc.,
19:56because of these strong winds.
19:58There will be heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, which is continuing during past 24 hours over Andhra Pradesh.
20:04And it can lead to coastal flooding, urban flooding, and low-lying area inundations.
20:12Okay.
20:12In addition to this one, there will be one-meter-height storm surge or tidal wave above the astronomical tide,
20:19which will inundate low-lying areas of Andhra Pradesh, especially in North Andhra Pradesh.
20:22So then, Dr. Mohapatra, in this kind of a weather system and the kind of bans that we're seeing right now,
20:29what's going to impact these coastal areas more?
20:33What's going to create maximum damage?
20:34Is it the winds or the rain?
20:36What's necessitated these mass evacuations of thousands of people?
20:40It is a multi-hazard phenomenon.
20:45So there is a combined impact of the wind and rainfall.
20:51And rainfall, we're expecting extremely heavy rainfall.
20:53Therefore, it can cause floods.
20:54We have got Godavari River there, the river casement.
20:58And also, we've got Bangshadara, Rosikulia, and Nagabali Rivers in south Odisha and Ergeny areas.
21:04There also heavy to extreme heavy rainfall will be there.
21:06So all these can lead to localized flooding and also river and flooding cannot be avoided.
21:12But most important point, I will tell you, there are many urban areas in this part of the country.
21:19Therefore, urban flooding also can be expected.
21:22The next one I will tell you, we have the eastern huts in North Andhra Pradesh, south Odisha,
21:29and Ergeny, Telangana, and south Satishkar.
21:32And the hill peaks are also quite high here.
21:34So this area is prone for landslides, mudslides, landslip or mudslip.
21:40So therefore, we can expect also the landslides.
21:43No, but I want to understand from you, Dr. Mohapatra, I want to understand from you,
21:46if you were to compare the cyclone to others, how bad is cyclone Mamata?
21:51If I were to compare it to all the other cyclones, the other storms that have hit the east coast of late.
21:56If I look at the recent cyclone, it is very similar to cyclone Dana,
22:04which crossed Odisha coast near Vitar Kanika on 25th October 2024.
22:12At that time, wind speed was 100 to 110 km per hour, gusting 120 km per hour.
22:16And here it is, 90 to 100 km per hour, gusting 120 km per hour.
22:22Therefore, impact in terms of wind will be similar to that of Dana.
22:26Okay, understood.
22:27Dr. Mohapatra, thank you for joining us.
22:30We'll hopefully be able to reconnect with you tomorrow as well to get a sense of what's expected in the aftermath of cyclone Mamata.
22:36Through the night, we understand that's when you will see the maximum impact of the cyclones.
22:41I want to bring back our reporters on this broadcast.
22:44I introduced them earlier.
22:45We have Apoorwa, who's joining us from Kakinada.
22:48We have Abdul Bashir, who is live from Machilipatnam.
22:51And then we have Tapas, who's joining us from Gopalpura in Odisha.
22:55Abdul, I'll come across to you first of what's the situation in Machilipatnam currently.
22:59We understand that thousands of people along the coast have been evacuated.
23:03Largely a precautionary step to ensure that there are no casualties.
23:06Because in these kind of cyclones, inevitably, we see a whole lot of damage.
23:11Well, yes, the current situation here in Machilipatnam, as you can see, that's strong with high-speed winds blowing in this particular area.
23:23We are very close to the beach, where now, as a precautionary measure, the nearby area has been closed.
23:28Police officials are now barricaded the routes that are leading to the beach.
23:33And what we are learning is that thousands of people in the low-lying areas have already been evacuated.
23:39Electricity cut off as a precautionary measure is being done.
23:42Several shops have been closed in the market area.
23:44The whole Machilipatnam area here, close to the beach, has been shut down.
23:48This five-kilometer radius where I'm standing, completely, it's a shutdown for the people.
23:53Several of them have been evacuated and taken to safer places.
23:56Regular announcements and alert messages are being given to the people to stay alert, to stay safe, to stay in the houses, which are concrete, not in the houses where the impact or the winds can impact more.
24:08Now, the wind's here blowing at a speed of 20 to 25 kilometers per hour.
24:13And, like I said, that it is difficult to stand steadily for a minute in this particular speed.
24:18But when the cyclone, the cyclone Manta makes a landfall here, the severe effect, then the speed of the wind is said to be 90 to 110 kilometers per hour.
24:26Then, just understand the impact that it is going to make.
24:29And, while we were on our way to the Machilipatnam beach, we have seen in this speed, I mean, this kind of impact that the cyclone is right now creating, before its landfall, several trees have been fallen on ground, the highway.
24:43The officials were just clearing the highway, the route here, by just cutting down those trees that have fallen on the ground here.
24:50And, several of them are right now making evacuation efforts, relief efforts, where thousands of people have been evacuated.
24:56So, we also understand at this point, and I'll bring in Apoorwa on this, the state government, Apoorwa, has confirmed that there's also been communication from the Prime Minister to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu that all necessary help from the central government will be offered to Andhra Pradesh.
25:11Evacuations are done. The NDRF, SDRF teams are ready to be deployed.
25:15We understand that the government is doing everything they can to be fully prepared for this cyclone.
25:20Well, that's right, Akshita. In fact, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has been continuously monitoring Cyclone Montha there.
25:31Both the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan have been coordinating with teams.
25:37You know, remember, there are over, across the 19 districts, especially in the, you know, seaside coast that we are seeing,
25:45that right from Nellur well into Vizag and up until Srikakulam, the entire sea coastal area is being completely monitored as well.
25:53Special officers, nodal officers have been deployed in these regions to ensure that the public safety is at most priority.
26:01Zero casualty is what, you know, Chief Minister and every Chief Minister are expecting in Cyclone Montha.
26:08When it comes to respect to public life as well, generators that have been kept on standby, helpline numbers that have been given out.
26:15And people who are a little bit hesitant to come away from these most likely affecting areas there,
26:22they are also likely to go ahead and be shifted to these residential camps that I am currently standing at and several other areas as well.
26:29So, it is a jam-packed schedule there where the government is working against time, against time, against landfall that is likely to hit in the next four hours.
26:38They are working to ensure that there isn't any casualty that will take place.
26:42But they are also ensuring that ultimately it is that if the landfall should happen and the casualties are there,
26:48the people, you know, are well taken care of by officials who are on ground, who are monitoring the situation.
26:54Okay, so we are tracking very closely the movement of the cyclone as well.
26:58So, we have got a live tracker that tells you exactly where the cyclone is currently.
27:02And we can confirm for you that while you are seeing the bands of the cyclone getting closer and closer to coastal Andhra,
27:09and that is on your screens right now, you can see the eye of the storm is still out in the sea.
27:14And that will be actually slamming into the coast of Andhra Pradesh, of Odisha also.
27:19And that will happen at about 11 in the night is what we are being told.
27:23In all, the entire landfall process will go on for four hours.
27:27It's those four hours that will be crucial, that will decide the level of damage and the impact that this cyclone will leave behind.
27:35Hopefully, we are not going to wake up tomorrow morning to a trail of destruction in these parts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
27:41But Tapas is also live with us from Gopalpur, and he's been getting us those updates from Odisha.
27:46Tapas told us earlier that there's been a complete blackout in that particular area.
27:51But we're having a bit of a problem with his connection, considering, of course, that these are areas which is experiencing extreme inclement weather right now.
28:00And, of course, courtesy, the strong winds, very difficult to connect with our reporters.
28:05But they're going to be there through the night, getting you all the updates on the current situation, when the cyclone makes landfall, and, importantly, the aftermath of the cyclone as well.
28:15Those updates will be coming your way.
28:17I'd like to thank Apoorwa, Abdul and Tapas for joining us.
28:20Stay safe out there, all of you.
28:22We will come across to you for those updates as you very bravely continue to get us those updates on Cyclone Manta.
28:30Now, it's not the only storm, in fact, to be concerned about.
28:35The focus right now is on a massive Category 5 hurricane called Melissa that's going to slam right into Jamaica and eastern Cuba.
28:44The U.S. National Hurricane Center has warned that this could be the strongest storm ever.
28:51What's been the impact so far?
28:53Let's get you some of those images.
28:54To this dramatic footage of views inside Hurricane Melissa, the military said a U.S. Air Force Reserve crew from the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron flew multiple passes through Melissa to collect critical weather data.
29:13And this is the footage that emerged.
29:20Jamaican authorities have called on the public to follow government updates on Hurricane Melissa after it intensified into a Category 5 storm.
29:27It's drawing closer to the island.
29:30Already, seven deaths have been reported in the Northern Caribbean as a result of this hurricane.
29:34Now, experts have warned that this particular hurricane will unleash catastrophic flooding, landslides, and there will be widespread damage.
29:48This will be the worst hurricane since 1851 to hit the island.
29:54The hurricane will be approaching Jamaica over a six-hour period weather radar showing hurricane tracker time-lapse shows how the storm is actually approaching closer and closer to Jamaica.
30:13Authorities in Jamaica are now moving residents into nearly 900 shelters that they've set up across the country to brace for this hurricane.
30:22Let's cut across to big breaking news that's coming in as reactions are pouring in over the announcement by the election commission of a pan-India SIR.
30:42Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has made it very clear that the DMK is against the SIR exercise in poll-bound Tamil Nadu, saying we will not yield.
30:53Stalin has maintained that BJP and AIA DMK are planning to win the election by removing the votes of working people, women and minorities.
31:03But he's vowed that the DMK will come together to fight what he calls undemocratic activities legally, suggesting that the DMK will now be taking this up in the courts to attempt to stop SIR from taking place in Tamil Nadu.
31:32When I was killed, I was just laughing.
31:39And the name of the SIR is also about the only name of the SIR.
31:45I was just telling you about that,
31:49I think I'm really proud of you.
31:51Let me bring in Pramod Madhav joining us live from Chennai with more details on this.
31:55Pramod, as expected, the DMK are making it clear that they will fight SIR tooth and nail.
32:00But Chief Minister Stalin indicating that in all likelihood they will be taking this up legally.
32:06Akshita, the first and foremost thing here is that this is one of the events that was conducted
32:09where the Chief Minister very clearly mentioned that he was going to talk about the SAR.
32:13And just like you mentioned, he claims that BJP and AIDMK are using SAR as a shortcut
32:18to win the elections in the state of Tamil Nadu for 2026.
32:21And that too, by removing women, minorities and working class votes.
32:24And he claims that the DMK carers should be extremely careful while monitoring SAR.
32:29In fact, DMK has gone ahead and now they have arranged that one Booth-level committee member
32:34will be there for 100 votes there by close to 6 lakh Booth committee members
32:38have been actually created by now just to go ahead and face this SAR.
32:42And Chief Minister also very clearly mentioned that on 2nd November,
32:45an all-party meeting, the registered parties in the state of Tamil Nadu
32:48will be conducted to take the further course of action in this matter, Akshita.
32:51Ramoth, thanks very much for joining us with those details.
32:54This is clearly becoming a huge political controversy,
32:57as expected in pole-bound Tamil Nadu,
33:00with the DMK making it very clear that they oppose this move.
33:03The next time you order a Blinkit or Swiggy or any other delivery platform order,
33:11be very, very careful.
33:12Why?
33:13Because you have no idea who's actually entering your home.
33:17A model in Bengaluru was molested by a Blinkit delivery man at her residence.
33:22And this is so scary because it could honestly happen to any of us.
33:26She wasn't alone.
33:27She lived with her flatmates.
33:28She ordered food on Blinkit.
33:30And when the delivery boy came, she opened the door to receive the order
33:34when allegedly he touched her inappropriately.
33:36She immediately pushed him away and locked the door.
33:39Again, let me highlight this could happen to any of us.
33:42We all allow them right to our front door.
33:45Very often when we're alone at home too.
33:47And here's why we must, must be doubly cautious.
33:51Because these delivery boys are independent contractors.
33:55That's a neat legal phrase that allows companies to distense themselves
33:59from the risks of their behavior or holding them accountable.
34:02So essentially, you could have a criminal, a repeat offender,
34:06even come right to your doorstep and you have absolutely no idea.
34:12Officially, firms claim to conduct background checks,
34:15verification of IDs, addresses, driving licenses.
34:18But very often they're actually outsourced to third-party vendors.
34:21So there's very little accountability.
34:23So the next time you order something from any of these platforms,
34:27take the necessary precautions and don't think things for granted
34:30because you're at home.
34:31The reality is, again, that you're allowing a complete stranger
34:35into what you consider your safe space.
34:40And this isn't the first time something like this has happened,
34:43unfortunately, in the country.
34:45We've seen multiple such incidents of grocery delivery agents
34:49are sexually harassing women, targeting these particular women at their homes.
34:55And sometimes they're not even alone in their residences.
34:59The fact that we've seen multiple of these incidents,
35:02again, is a reminder for us not to take our safety for granted at our residence,
35:07especially because in many of these cases,
35:09these companies have loopholes to ensure that they don't have to go through
35:14a foolproof background check to hire someone.
35:17They're independent contractors.
35:18So that means that they go ahead and ensure that these are people
35:21who are tied to any of these companies to get deliveries done,
35:26but aren't actual employees.
35:29So at no point are they held accountable for what happens.
35:32The Kannada film, Kanthara Chapter 1, continues to shatter records.
35:43The buzz continues.
35:45It's become now the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025.
35:49And mind you, at a time when the film is continuing to go through
35:53a very, very successful theatrical run.
35:56And even as new releases are hitting the screens,
35:59the craze for Kanthara, however, continues.
36:02So it's broken many records, the highest grosser of 2025,
36:06but perhaps going to break a lot more records
36:09because it continues its successful run in theatres.
36:12Let's get you all the details in this report.
36:14I'm leaving you with this one.
36:16Thanks very much for tuning in.
36:29When divine fury meets box office glory,
36:46history is bound to be written in gold.
36:48Kanthara Chapter 1 has become the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025
37:05by surpassing the lifetime run of Chawa at the worldwide box office.
37:11The Rishabh Shetty directorial achieved the biggest feat in 25 days
37:22after crossing the benchmark of 800 crore rupees gross gloom.
37:26The period folk drama reportedly grossed around approximately 812.8 crore,
37:48dethroning the wiki Kaushal's starrer,
37:52which grossed 808 crore in its lifetime run at the global box office.
38:03While new films have hit the screens,
38:05the craze for Kanthara Chapter 1 hasn't died just yet.
38:09According to the reports,
38:17the mythological actioner is also the first film
38:20to cross the 200 crore mark in Karnataka.
38:32In fact, the film has already earned 235 crore in 25 days,
38:37setting a new record for its native film industry.
38:50Released in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam,
38:55Kanthara Chapter 1 has transcended linguistic barriers
38:59to capture audiences across India and beyond.
39:07In fact, Kanthara Chapter 1 has put Rishabh Shetty,
39:15who's also the writer-director of the film
39:17in the top league of Indian actors worldwide.
39:19His rise from a Kannada actor to a pan-Indian star is legit.
39:24And seems to be purely based on the merit of film making.
39:30Both the Kanthara movies have been appreciated for their content,
39:36performance and incredible direction,
39:39making the film a one-man show.
39:40For the unknown,
39:55Kanthara Chapter 1 is the prequel to the 2022 film Kanthara,
39:59exploring the origins of the divine forest and the daivas.
40:02The story is set in the 4th century and focuses on the conflict
40:07between a tribal leader, Burme,
40:10and the encroaching Kadamba Kingdom,
40:13which is vying for control of the resource-rich land.
40:20The film was released in theatres on October 2nd
40:24and is still enjoying a good run.
40:32With Pranjali Sethi, Entertainment Bureau, India Today.
