00:00Plex users face mandatory password reset after data breach.
00:05Plex just got owned by hackers and if you're one of the millions streaming the office for
00:09the 847th time, you might want to pay attention.
00:13The streaming giant confirmed in a company blog post that hackers managed to break into
00:17one of their databases and make off with a subset of user data.
00:21Translation, your username, email and hashed password are now floating around the dark
00:26web like digital tumbleweeds.
00:28Here's the good news, if you can call it that.
00:31Plex doesn't store your credit card info, so at least your bank account isn't getting
00:35drained while you binge parks and wreck.
00:37The company reassured users that financial data stayed safe because they follow basic
00:42security practices.
00:44But securely hashed passwords are only as secure as your creativity.
00:47If your password is password123, even the best hashing won't help.
00:52Plex is forcing password resets on affected accounts and strongly suggesting enabling two-factor
00:57authentication.
00:59They've patched the security hole and started a comprehensive infrastructure review.
01:03Change your password, turn on two-factor authentication and consider if Hunter 2 is really secure.
