00:00The next question from WhatsApp.
00:02Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
00:05Wa alaykum as-salam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
00:07Dr. Zakir Naik, my name is Nooruddin M. Abdul Karim from Abuja, Nigeria.
00:13I am a big fan of you, Dr. Zakir.
00:16We, the Muslims of Nigeria, love you for the sake of Allah, including me.
00:20When you delivered lectures in Nigeria in 2023,
00:24when the time for salah came,
00:26you kept on giving lecture as though the time of salah is not important.
00:31Please clarify, sir, is there ruling in Islam
00:33that dais who do dawah can suspend their salah because of dawah?
00:39Jazakallah khairan.
00:41May Allah continue to protect you and guide you.
00:45Brother Nooruddin Abdul Karim from Nigeria has asked a question
00:48that when I went to Nigeria in 2023,
00:51I went in the last week of October
00:53and in the first 10 days of November 2023 to Nigeria
00:58and I gave several lectures.
01:00So the question, Brother, I suppose that
01:02in some of the lectures,
01:04you continued giving your speech
01:06even the time of salah was there
01:09as though salah is not important for a daai
01:11and he can delay his salah.
01:15Let me tell you very frankly
01:17that as far as the farais are concerned,
01:20for a daai, he is more obliged.
01:23It is more requirement for him to fulfill the farais
01:25than the other normal Muslim
01:27because he is a daai.
01:28As far as salah is concerned,
01:30there is no excuse
01:32that a daai should delay his salah
01:34or should,
01:37should,
01:37unless
01:38it's a sunnah which I'll come to later on.
01:40So let me tell you
01:41that as far as the farais and the sunnah are concerned,
01:45a daai is supposed to be more strict
01:47in his farais and his sunnah
01:49as compared to a normal Muslim
01:51because he is the representative of Islam.
01:56So what did our beloved Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam say?
01:58I do not know what lecture the person is talking about in Nigeria.
02:01I give several lectures.
02:03But let me tell you a general ruling.
02:05In India, in Bombay,
02:06we prefer having a talk in the evening.
02:08So we normally used to start the talk
02:11immediately after maghrib salah.
02:12And we used to continue the talk
02:16even during the time of Isha.
02:18And after the talk is over,
02:19because there is a deadline in India,
02:21especially in Bombay,
02:22that we should end the program by 10 o'clock.
02:24So if we start immediately after maghrib,
02:27sometime it's 7 o'clock,
02:29sometime early, sometime later.
02:30So we hardly have three hours.
02:33So when we start,
02:35we start immediately after maghrib
02:36and we continue
02:37even though the adhan for Isha takes place
02:39because there is a hadith of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
02:43that you should hasten
02:44when the time for salah comes,
02:47you should hasten
02:47in offering the salah.
02:49That means offering salah
02:51in the awal vaqt,
02:53in the early part of the salah
02:56timing is preferable,
02:58is sunnah,
02:59except the Isha salah.
03:01So because the hadith,
03:02which some of you may not be aware,
03:04that as far as Fajr is concerned,
03:06the Zohar is concerned,
03:07the Asha is concerned,
03:08the maghrib is concerned,
03:09the moment the time starts,
03:11the azhan takes place,
03:12you should try and pray the salah
03:14in jamaat as soon as possible.
03:16So normally the talas time,
03:18it's after 15 minutes,
03:19sometimes 20,
03:20sometimes 25,
03:21but the exception is Isha.
03:23That in the Isha salah,
03:25you can delay
03:26and Isha salah can be prayed
03:28up to Niswur Lail.
03:30So in India,
03:30because especially in Bombay
03:32where the deadline was 12 o'clock,
03:35as a deadline,
03:36you have to end the talk
03:37officially by law
03:38if you are doing it in public.
03:39If you are doing it in close,
03:40no problem.
03:41Most of my program
03:42is outdoor,
03:43in public.
03:44So to take advantage,
03:45you should start at 7
03:46or 4 to 7,
03:47depending upon the time of the year
03:48and continue till 8,
03:5010 and stop it.
03:51And we have to delay the salah
03:53among Isha salah
03:54because it is preferable
03:56to delay Isha salah
03:57and when the gathering
03:58is 50,000,
03:59100,000,
04:00200,000,
04:00but natural.
04:01The Jamaat,
04:02if not all,
04:02even if 50% prays
04:04or 25% prays,
04:06the Jamaat is very big.
04:07So bigger the Jamaat,
04:08the better.
04:09So if you avoid praying
04:10in the mosque,
04:11which will have 2,000,
04:123,000
04:12and pray in 10,000,
04:1350,000,
04:14it's preferable.
04:15So that was the policy.
04:17But in Malaysia,
04:18there is no deadline
04:19that if you have a lecture
04:20in the open.
04:22I remember when I had a talk
04:23in Kuala Lumpur.
04:25We started immediately
04:26after Isha.
04:28Before Isha,
04:29somebody else spoke.
04:31And we continued
04:33till late night,
04:35sorry,
04:35till early morning,
04:373.30.
04:38It was the longest
04:39talk in my history
04:42in a public gathering
04:43where it went on
04:45from 8.30 started
04:47and continued
04:49till 3.00
04:52or 3.30.
04:54So imagine
04:55it went on
04:56for about
04:56six and a half hours
04:59or seven hours.
05:00The talk was
05:01the Quran God's Word.
05:02The talk itself
05:02was very long,
05:04about two and a half hours
05:05and the Qashnan session
05:06went on.
05:07Till early morning,
05:07there is no restriction.
05:09And here,
05:09of course,
05:09people prefer
05:10being Shafi,
05:11they prefer
05:11praying early.
05:13So we pray.
05:13So depending upon
05:14the society,
05:16depending upon
05:16the locality,
05:18we ask the organizers
05:19and do things.
05:20So generally,
05:21if I delay
05:23the Salah
05:23of Isha,
05:25it is Sunnah.
05:26It is preferable.
05:27So if you ask me,
05:28you as a Dai
05:29are delaying the Salah,
05:30yes,
05:30because it's Sunnah
05:31of the Prophet.
05:32Not as me,
05:32even you can delay,
05:33but that's Isha Salah.
05:34You should not delay
05:35any other Salah.
05:37But I do remember,
05:38in Nigeria,
05:39there was a program
05:40that we were supposed
05:41to start in the morning
05:41at 9 o'clock
05:42and because of technical error,
05:44it started in 1 or 8.
05:46And the time continued
05:47and that time,
05:49I think it was in Abuja,
05:50the gathering
05:51was more than 30,000 people.
05:53And the Salah
05:54of Zohar was there.
05:56So the organizers
05:57told me to continue
05:58because we started late.
06:00And there's no problem,
06:01we'll pray in Jama'at.
06:01So I made it a point
06:02to announce there
06:03that,
06:04inshallah,
06:05we will continue
06:05the program
06:06with the question-and-answer session.
06:09And after the question-and-answer
06:10we'll pray in Jama'at.
06:12This is Zohar Salah.
06:12So when I made an announcement
06:14and if you delay
06:16the Salah
06:17and see to it
06:18that the gathering is big,
06:1930,000 or even
06:20if half pray,
06:2115,000,
06:22it's very big,
06:23so there's no problem.
06:24If you're delaying the Salah
06:26and seeing to it
06:28that after the event,
06:31the gathering is going
06:32to be bigger than normal,
06:33then there's no problem.
06:34But generally,
06:35you should not delay.
06:37But if you're having
06:37a gathering
06:38and if everyone is willing
06:40that you can delay
06:41and have a bigger gathering
06:43there is no problem at all.
06:44But generally,
06:45you should not delay.
06:46So I'm not aware
06:48which talk you're talking about,
06:50especially if you're talking
06:51about Abuja.
06:51So this was the reason
06:52because it started late.
06:54Whenever we organize programs,
06:56we see to it
06:57that we always stop
06:58when the adhan is there,
07:00we stop the program,
07:00we pray,
07:01except the isha salah.
07:03So we are the organizers,
07:04we are in control.
07:05So normally when you give talks,
07:06you should look,
07:07but as near as I die,
07:09if I'm a traveler,
07:10my rules are different.
07:11If I'm a traveler,
07:13I can join my Zohar
07:14and Asar together.
07:16So from the time
07:17of Zohar Azaan
07:18to just before Maghrib Azaan,
07:20I can pray my Zohar and Asar.
07:23So,
07:23but
07:24if the organizers advise me,
07:27I have to follow
07:28because they know the custom,
07:29but I cannot break my usul.
07:31So when I'm a traveler,
07:33I have to do Jammah Azaan.
07:36So I can pray anytime
07:37from immediately after the Zohar Azaan
07:39to the end of Asar time,
07:41just before the Maghrib Azaan,
07:42I can pray.
07:44So I'm not breaking
07:45any one of my rules.
07:46So if the organizers
07:46advise me something,
07:48knowing the culture very well,
07:50as long as I'm following
07:51my sunnah,
07:51there's no problem.
07:52Similarly,
07:53with Maghrib Aneesha,
07:54I have the tabula can join.
07:57Otherwise,
07:57it is generally preferable
07:59to pray your Salah
08:00in Jamaat
08:01in a mosque
08:02or a Jamaat
08:03of a big gathering
08:04of 10,000,
08:0450,000,
08:05100,000,
08:06depending upon the audience.
08:07So praying in Jamaat
08:09is preferable.
08:10The Prophet said
08:11in Sahih Bukhari
08:11that you'll get
08:1225 times more Sawaab.
08:14You'll get 27 times
08:15more Sawaab.
08:16So it's preferable
08:17to pray always
08:18the Fard Salah
08:19in Jamaat
08:20in a mosque.
08:21Unless,
08:22of course,
08:22you're traveling.
08:23Even while I travel,
08:24most of the Salah,
08:25I try and see to it
08:26that we pray in Jamaat
08:28preferably in a mosque.
08:30So this answers
08:31the question
08:32that for a Dai,
08:33there is no exception
08:34for any of the Faraas.
08:35In fact,
08:37a Dai should be
08:37more particular
08:38that he reads,
08:39that he follows,
08:41he does all the Faraas
08:42and even does
08:43the Sunnah,
08:44especially
08:45the Sunnah
08:46and Muqadah,
08:47the highly recommended Sunnah
08:48and see to it
08:49he follows more
08:50of the teachings
08:50of the Quran
08:51and the Hadith
08:52as compared to
08:53other Dai,
08:53there is no exception
08:54that because he's Dai,
08:56he can pray late
08:57or he can pray less.
08:58No, this is totally wrong
08:59and we have to adhere
09:00to the teachings
09:01of Allah and the Rasul.
09:02Hope that answers the question.
09:04As-salamu alaykum
09:05Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.
