00:00A young gentleman with a American flag t-shirt seen leaving in the minutes after Charlie Kirk
00:09was shot. So the type of gun, very important here, high-powered Mauser bolt action rifle.
00:15And you see, you know, just to be 200 yards away and to fire with that kind of accuracy
00:22is another one of those clues in this that the investigators are going to look in to figure out
00:28who this person is. Was he trained? You know, what was the motive behind this? This is all part of
00:34what they're trying to figure out this afternoon. There's still, I guess, so much to be known. We've
00:38talked about this certainly in our planning call to be very careful about how we characterize this
00:42because there are so many unknowns. Is it safe to assume he was acting on his own or do we still not
00:48know that even yet? Yeah, that's unclear too. You know, you have an incident here where you have a
00:54large public event, 3,000 people on a college campus where you have six police officers protecting
00:59this event of so many people. And then you've got a suspect who is relatively unknown in any way.
01:09No one saw him get on top of the roof and no one saw him leave. But what they're working on right now
01:15are footwear impressions, palm prints, seeing if they can get a latent print from a cartridge.
01:21But that has to be linked to, you know, fingerprints in a system, right? Like I worked for the city,
01:27so my fingerprints are in the system. That doesn't happen for everybody. So it just makes
01:31it that much more difficult to figure out who this person is. The technology available today,
01:35the fact that there were people who were taking photos and videos of the event separate from this,
01:40obviously, and separate from what we've seen circulate online in the last 22 hours or so.
01:46What technology are law enforcement officials able to use from civilians,
01:50from people who were there, and also closed circuit television. This is a college campus.
01:55These places are very heavily monitored.
01:58Yeah. Well, you know, one thing that's going to be crucial in this is facial recognition, right?
02:02You know, they'll be able to put that image into, say, a Clearview AI and figure out,
02:09does this match any of the people on social media, any people seen in any public setting?
02:14Another thing that they'll do is they'll track the surveillance video from point A to point B.
02:21So they'll see him getting up onto that roof. They track him through the woods. What about ring
02:25cameras? Did anybody see anything on the ring? You know, did he drive there? I mean, Utah is very
02:30spaced out. So he'll have to have driven there likely. Or was he dropped off? You know, did he use a
02:36credit card, you know, at a gas station? These are all the things that investigators have to do
02:40in a case when it's not as clear cut. And this is about not as clear cut as it gets. One that's
02:46definitely going to be puzzling for an FBI office that's not as big as, say, the Colorado, the Denver,
02:51Colorado office, or here in New York, one of the smaller offices that just had its special agent in
02:56charge swapped out by the current FBI director. And so there's a lot of upheaval happening in Salt
03:01Lake City. And you've got this massive case, again, six officers protecting 3,000 people.
03:06What's been the impact on college campuses around the nation? I heard Joe Matthew earlier
03:10talking about some security concerns at some universities. Yeah, I think, you know, HBCUs,
03:16so historically black colleges and universities in this country, have gotten some threats. And,
03:21you know, those have been investigated, but so far, nothing there. There was word of a scare at a
03:26university here in New York City, but that's been unconfirmed. So, you know, it remains to be seen
03:32how you keep, you know, you have to figure out how you're going to keep a campus full of students safe.
03:36But again, this is about much more than that. This is about political violence rearing its head
03:42again. We saw it in Minnesota months ago. We saw it in Pennsylvania and now again happening
03:48in Utah in a place where 3,000 people came to see Charlie Kirk. And if they didn't agree with him,
03:54they at least wanted to hear him debate. Yeah, not to mention the attack on President Trump's life
03:57last year in Butler, Pennsylvania. Miles, before we let you go, thinking about this from the perspective,
04:02not just of security, but also from Kash Patel and the FBI and what we've heard from the FBI
04:09over the last day or so. Yesterday, we did hear something about subjects being questioned in
04:15custody. Nothing came of that. That's that's done. Right. One gentleman who was taken into custody,
04:21you know, his family said he was a big supporter of Charlie Kirk would never be involved in that.
04:26Another person was a local rabble rouser who wasn't involved either. But, you know,
04:30this does point at I think a point that you're getting at was which was the FBI director being
04:36eager to tweet. And then those tweets both, you know, not bearing out being the person responsible.
04:42It's something that we haven't seen in the past. But this is a more vocal FBI director. All of
04:47President Trump's agency heads are very vocal on social media. That rush definitely hinders the
04:53investigation because then investigators are like, whoa, we have this one. Oh, it's not that person.
04:57Now we've got to move back on. And then you've got social media identifying people incorrectly
05:02and then having their families docs and all of that. So that plays a big role in this as well.
