00:00For Trump, knocking down walls is easy. It's building them that's hard.
00:05Demolition on the White House's eastern wing began Monday in preparation of President Trump's proposed $250 million ballroom.
00:14The White House says it's privately funded, but the move is sparking plenty of reactions,
00:19including from late-night hosts who turned the project into their monologue's punchline.
00:24We're just, as I said, we're just nine months into Trump's turn, and he's going Hulk smash on the White House.
00:31Last time, it took him at least four years to bring a demo crew to the Capitol.
00:37Photos of the demolition began circulating Monday, as critics questioned whether the administration overstepped.
00:44The Washington Post reported the Treasury Department instructed employees not to take or share photos of the construction site without permission.
00:52Late-night hosts were quick to jump in with their opinions.
00:56The government shutdown is now in its third week.
00:59Countless federal employees aren't being paid.
01:01Food stamps will run out soon, and there's no end in sight.
01:05But not to worry, President Trump is working day and night to build a ballroom!
01:13Trump has maintained his project is no different from past presidents who made changes to the White House.
01:19Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt was asked by Fox News host Jesse Waters if Democrats were jealous of the ballroom.
01:26It certainly appears that way, Jesse.
01:29You guys, I don't think he's planning on leaving in three years.
01:33If I had three years left on a lease, I wouldn't even put up a shelf.
01:37The Associated Press reports the project is set to continue through Trump's current term, with an estimated completion in January 2029.
