00:00Ah, ramen, the salty soulmate of broke college students and midnight snackers everywhere.
00:04Ramen has surged from dorm room staple to global obsession with U.S. ramen restaurant revenue hitting $1.6 billion in 2025.
00:12But according to a new study, eating too much of it might fast-track your RSVP to the afterlife.
00:16Researchers tracked 6,725 Japanese adults over nearly five years.
00:21Among those who ate ramen more than three times a week, 145 died during the study, 100 from cancer and 29 from cardiovascular disease.
00:29And what could that link be? Sodium.
00:32One packet of chicken-flavored Maruchan ramen contains 1,520 milligrams of sodium.
00:38That's 20 milligrams over the American Heart Association's recommended daily limit of 1,500 milligrams.
00:43So yes, one bowl and you're maxed out for the day.
00:46However, the frequent ramen eaters in the study were mostly male, overweight, smokers, and drinkers.
00:52So maybe this study focused a little too hard on the noodles.
00:55Still, ramen's salty charm might be more than your body can handle.
00:59Despite its delicious nature.
01:00And yet, with $58 billion in global ramen sales, it's clear we're not quitting anytime soon.
01:05But maybe, I don't know, ramen responsibly?
01:08But what do you think? Are you a ramen lover or a heart health hero?
