00:00At least four people have died in historic flooding in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
00:11City of Chattanooga, we've had flash floods in the past, but nothing to this extreme that happened yesterday.
00:20Fire Chief Terry Knowles tells Straight Arrow News a family of two adults and one child died after a tree fell on their car.
00:27Another person died after being swept away by floodwaters.
00:31The flooding also shut down Interstate 24 in both directions.
00:35Just to see that look like, you know, the Tennessee River or one of our large creeks, Chickamauga Creek,
00:42just, you know, looking at it and it looks like a body of water, not an interstate, was just, I mean, it was one, it was scary for people.
00:51Two, it was very concerning for us because we knew the amount of cars that we were going to have in it
00:56and the people in those cars.
00:58The flooding also forced his department to conduct around 100 swift water rescues around the county
01:04and more than 50 in the city of Chattanooga.
01:07Knowles said his department and the rest of the local and state agencies came together to help their community.
01:13We're one team when it comes down to disasters or emergency incidents.
01:17You know, Director Adams said in the last press conference, we leave the egos at the door, all the departments and all the agencies,
01:25and we're working together as one.
01:27And it showed yesterday, just like it shows with anything else that we do in the city and the county.
01:34The Chattanooga Airport got more than six inches of rain in one day, the second most since recording began in 1879.
