00:00Multiple reports say Israel has begun preparing for a planned assault on Gaza City.
00:07The first part of Israel's plan includes calling up 60,000 military reservists,
00:13as well as extending service for another 20,000.
00:16A spokesman for the Israeli Defense Forces says Israel's military is now positioned on the outskirts in the city.
00:23They say they've given Palestinians who were still in the city orders to relocate.
00:28It conforms to the general pattern, which is to something that Israel has been trying to do since the beginning, it appears,
00:36which is to move the population of Gaza as much as possible to the south in preparation for its removal from Gaza altogether.
00:45It's unclear when the push into Gaza City will actually begin.
00:49There was some initial resistance to this plan from IDF leaders who would become responsible for the population in Gaza City.
00:56There is currently pushback from Israeli citizens.
00:59Straight Arrow News spoke with Shai Feldman, a Middle East scholar who spent much of this year in Israel.
01:05He says Israelis were promised three things.
01:08One is to destroy Hamas as a military threat.
01:14Secondly, to destroy Hamas's governing capacity in Gaza.
01:19All of this comes after Hamas reportedly agreed to a mediator-brokered ceasefire.
01:33Israel has yet to agree to the terms.
01:35Israel is right now trying to do two strategies at the same time.
01:40One strategy is for a negotiated ceasefire on the one hand with Hamas,
01:46and the other one is to destroy Hamas and their incompatible strategies.
01:49The United States has not said much about the deal.
01:52As for this proposal that Hamas has now accepted, the United States continues to discuss it,
01:58and I'll let the president weigh in on it definitively.
02:00Meanwhile, the U.S. has sanctioned four international criminal court judges and prosecutors
02:05over the court's targeting of Israeli leaders.
