00:00Former Vice President Kamala Harris says in her new book that letting Joe Biden decide on his own
00:05whether to run again in 2024 was, in her words, recklessness.
00:12The comment comes in an excerpt of her upcoming memoir, 107 Days, published Wednesday by The
00:19Atlantic. The title refers to the length of her presidential campaign after Biden dropped out.
00:24Harris writes, it's Joe and Jill's decision. We all said that, like mantra, as if we'd been
00:31hypnotized. In retrospect, I think it was recklessness. The stakes were simply too high.
00:37This wasn't a choice that should have been left to an individual's ego and individual's ambition.
00:42Harris also defended Biden, dismissing accusations the White House hid his health problems.
00:48She blamed his poor debate performance on exhaustion from travel, not incapacity.
00:53She added she was reluctant to press Biden to step aside, citing their tense history from the
00:592019 Democratic primaries. Harris further claims the White House failed to defend her, particularly
01:05over the borders are label, and that some insiders even fed attacks against her. She says Biden's team
01:12didn't get it, that, quote, my success was important for him. The excerpt also describes Biden's July of
01:192024 announcement that he would not run again and notes he did not mention Harris until nearly nine
01:25minutes into his 11-minute speech. Her book, 107 Days, is set for release September 23rd.
