00:00The Trump administration is reviewing the visas of 55 million foreigners as first reported by
00:05the Associated Press Thursday. In a statement to the Washington Post, a State Department official
00:13confirmed the review and says it will allow the department to revoke visas for overstates,
00:18crimes, threats to public safety, and any terrorist activity. The Post reports 77% of
00:24visas issued in the 2024 fiscal year were for business or tourism, and around 7% are
00:29for students, academics, and their families. The Trump administration has also enacted a new rule
00:35that requires officials to screen the social media accounts of visa and green card holders
00:40for anti-American activity. While one senior State Department official notes it likely means
00:45a longer review process, they say it's necessary to protect Americans. Immigration and free speech
00:52advocates have raised concerns the new rules don't target actual criminal activity, rather they police
00:58free speech. They claim the administration will likely target individual groups or people as a
01:03result of the review. The latest move comes as Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the administration
01:09has halted the issuance of visas to commercial truck drivers in the wake of a deadly crash involving an
01:16Indian national. Trump administration officials say he was in the country illegally. Authorities say
01:21he attempted to make an illegal U-turn in Florida, which led to the fatal collision. The State Department
01:27contends this move is non-discriminatory because it applies to all visa holders. For more on this
