00:00A German court convicted a 16-year-old Syrian national Tuesday for supporting a foiled terror
00:06plan to attack Taylor Swift's concerts in Vienna last year. The boy only identified as
00:11Mohammed A. due to German privacy laws will avoid jail time with a suspended 18-month sentence.
00:21Judges found the teen, who was 14 at the time of the incident, believed in Islamic state group
00:26ideology and helped a young man in Austria who planned to commit the terror attack outside
00:32Swift's concerts. Prosecutors say Mohammed A. communicated with a then-19-year-old Austrian
00:38suspect through social media, sending him a video on how to make a bomb and facilitating
00:44communication between him and a member of the Islamic State group. German authorities arrested
00:49Mohammed A. after discovering the communication. The CIA helped foil the plot and multiple people
00:55were initially arrested. Swift's three concerts in Vienna were canceled on August 7, 2024. As a
01:02result, Mohammed A. reportedly made a comprehensive confession during the closed-door trial and his
01:08conviction can be appealed. The now 20-year-old Austrian, who prosecutors say was the ringleader,
01:15remains in police custody. Two other teens initially arrested in the case have since been released and
01:20faced no charges. For more on this story, download the Straight Air News app or visit san.com.
