00:00A fireworks display in the Himalayas of Tibet is now under investigation by China.
00:23Used for a promo for sports apparel company Arcteryx, video from the display shows dozens
00:32of fireworks launched in sequence across the region in the shape of a dragon.
00:38The display, designed by the same Chinese artist who oversaw fireworks at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
00:45The promo sparked online criticism with people accusing the company of failing to uphold its
00:58eco-friendly promise. Some even called for a boycott of the sportswear brand.
01:03Arcteryx has since issued an apology as well as the artist, both vowing to cooperate with
01:09the environmental investigation into any ecological or local wildlife impact.
01:16The company says, we've heard your concerns and we share them, and the move was not in
01:20line with its values. Chinese state media says the region has a fragile ecosystem and environmentalists
01:28say the fireworks and subsequent smoke may have harmed it. Some social media users have said
01:34an apology isn't enough and called for the company to be held responsible for any
01:39environmental harm uncovered in the probe. Arcteryx says it used all biodegradable materials in the
01:47explosions. For more on this story, you can download the Straight Arrow News mobile app
