00:00A ship from China's Coast Guard just hit another vessel.
00:03Not from an enemy nation or some sort of commercial vessel, but from the Chinese Navy.
00:11This is newly released video from the Philippine Coast Guard,
00:15showing the unusual and dangerous moment in the South China Sea.
00:19A China Coast Guard cutter was chasing a Philippine patrol ship
00:23about 11 nautical miles east of the Scarborough Shoal,
00:27when it slammed into a larger destroyer from the People's Liberation Army Navy.
00:33That's the official name of China's maritime forces.
00:36The footage shows the cutter spraying water as it closed in on the BRP Suluwan,
00:42a Filipino vessel escorting fishing boats.
00:45That's when the destroyer moved between the Suluwan and the Chinese cutter.
00:50The impact crumpled the cutter's bow and, according to Philippine officials, left it unseaworthy.
00:56A few sailors were on the cutter's bow just seconds before the collision.
01:02It's unclear if any were injured.
01:04The Filipino vessel reportedly offered manned overboard assistance and medical aid.
01:10Manila is also calling on China to once again follow international collision prevention protocols.
01:17Beijing did not comment on the collision directly,
01:20but accused the Filipinos of forcibly intruding into waters that China claims as its own.
01:28The Scarborough Shoal is a long-standing flashpoint between China and the Philippines,
01:33and the hostilities between the two are escalating.
