00:32It's possible thanks to a move Congress authorized in 2020 to mark the 250th birthday of the United States.
00:39It allows a Treasury to create coins with designs emblematic of the United States.
00:44Treasurer Brandon Beach shared the preview of what the Trump coin could look like.
00:48The front shows Trump's profile with the date 1776 to 2026.
00:53On the back, he's depicted moments after he survived the 2024 assassination attempt,
00:59raising his fists with an American flag behind him and the words fight, fight, fight across the top.
01:05The presidential $1 coin program, which ran from 2007 to 2016 and again in 2020,
01:11honored every president from George Washington to George H.W. Bush.
01:16But there's one big difference.
01:17All were featured after they left office.
01:20So why does this matter?
01:21The 1866 law banning living figures on currency was designed to keep political leaders from using money
01:28to elevate themselves while in office.
01:31Still, the Treasury can issue collectible coins for special occasions, like America's birthday.
01:36That's how a sitting president can appear on this special coin.
01:40And that's what makes this a historic first.
