00:49Good morning, I'm Craig DeGrelli.
00:51This morning, the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas remains fragile,
00:55as Israel threatens to cut aid deliveries to Gaza in half,
00:59as Hamas has not yet returned the remains of all the hostages who died in their custody.
01:04Meanwhile, Hamas security forces have returned to the streets of Gaza in a show of force.
01:10While Hamas sent back the remains of four more hostages to Israel yesterday,
01:14Israel says the terror group is not upholding its end of the peace deal,
01:18in which Hamas agreed to return the remains of all 28 deceased hostages,
01:23alongside the 20 still living.
01:24So far, it has only returned a total of eight deceased.
01:28Because of that, Israel says starting today,
01:31it will only allow half the agreed number of humanitarian aid trucks into Gaza.
01:36The United Nations also confirmed it has been notified that no fuel or gas
01:41will be allowed into the enclave, except for specific needs related to infrastructure.
01:45This comes as Hamas security forces have reportedly clashed with armed groups
01:50and publicly executed people in what it calls an attempt to restore law and order
01:55in areas where Israeli troops have withdrawn.
01:58That show of force could threaten the fragile peace agreement.
02:01Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu maintains the war won't end until Hamas is dismantled.
02:08President Trump's ceasefire plan calls for Hamas to disarm
02:11and let an internationally supervised body that has yet to be formed take over in Gaza.
02:17We have told them we want to disarm and they will disarm.
02:24And if they don't disarm, we will disarm them.
02:26And it'll happen quickly and perhaps violently.
02:30Hamas has not yet accepted those terms, saying more negotiations are needed.
02:35Netanyahu told CBS News on Tuesday,
02:37If Hamas does not disarm, all hell breaks loose.
02:41The U.S. military has conducted another strike on a boat it says was trafficking drugs off the coast of Venezuela.
02:49President Trump posting video of the strike on his Truth Social page Tuesday,
02:53saying six narco-terrorists were killed in what he calls a lethal kinetic strike that you saw right there.
03:00He also said the boat was affiliated with a designated terrorist organization, but did not name which one.
03:06This marks the fifth deadly strike in the Caribbean.
03:10It comes as the Trump administration has declared the United States is in an armed conflict with drug cartels.
03:16Venezuela is accusing the administration of ulterior motives,
03:20such as trying to unseat President Nicolas Maduro in order to seize the country's natural resources.
03:25The political controversy over the Trump administration's ICE raids on suspected illegal immigrants in Los Angeles is now leading to new action at the local level.
03:36Los Angeles County has now declared a state of emergency over the federal presence and the fallout from the feds rounding up thousands of migrants.
03:45The move allows the county to assist immigrants who have been financially impacted by the ICE raids.
03:50Los Angeles is a so-called sanctuary city, with the county home to more than three million immigrants who are now dealing with what advocates deem a widespread fear.
04:00The county says that fear has led to decreased attendance at workplaces, disruption to the local economy, and a strain on schools, hospitals, and churches.
04:09Back in June, fiery protests in Los Angeles led President Trump to activate the National Guard against Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass' wishes.
04:18The matter wound up in court.
04:20There have been more than 5,000 ICE and Border Patrol arrests in Los Angeles since June,
04:26with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem marking the milestone in August, saying,
04:31Families protected, American taxpayers spared the cost of crimes.
04:35If you are here illegally, we will find you, arrest you, and send you back.
04:39The latest back and forth between the U.S. and China in the ongoing trade battle has to do with port fees.
04:45On Tuesday, both countries began charging each other additional levies on products from toys to crude oil
04:51as the two countries continued to posture on tariffs, trade, and fees.
04:55China says it has started to collect the special charges on American-owned and operated flagged ships,
05:01but Chinese-built ships are exempt.
05:04That followed the Trump administration's plans to impose fees on ships with ties to China
05:09in order to increase domestic shipbuilding in the U.S.
05:12All of this comes after a weekend of rhetoric and trade threats.
05:16On his Truth Social platform on Friday, Trump accused China of exerting an extraordinarily aggressive position
05:23on controlling its exports, mainly rare-earth magnets and minerals.
05:27Trump vowed to retaliate with a blanket 100% tariff on Chinese products on November 1st.
05:33By Monday, Trump had reversed course, saying,
05:35Don't worry about China. It will all be fine.
05:37New U.S. tariffs went into effect this week on imports of furniture, kitchen cabinets, and lumber ranging from 10% to 50%.
05:45And this morning, President Trump is threatening to end all cooking oil purchases from China
05:51due to the Chinese no longer buying American soybeans.
05:54Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are slated to meet later this month at the APEC Summit in South Korea.
06:00This morning, the music industry is mourning the loss of R&B star D'Angelo.
06:06The Grammy winner has died of pancreatic cancer.
06:09He was famous for such hits as Brown Sugar, Cruisin', and Lady, all in the 1990s.
06:15Rolling Stone called him a soulful singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist,
06:20who kicked off the neo-soul revolution, then took that revolution to great artistic heights with his album Voodoo in 2000.
06:27Mega star Justin Timberlake is among those mourning the loss of D'Angelo and paying tribute.
06:33J.T. credits D'Angelo with helping him define his own voice,
06:37pointing to Brown Sugar as pivotal in guiding Timberlake's unique sound.
06:42Michael D'Angelo Archer was 51.
06:45Finally this morning, here's something you don't expect to dig up in your backyard.
06:49A Louisiana woman was clearing some overgrowth when she uncovered a marble tablet
06:54containing the mysterious inscription, Spirits of the Dead, on it.
06:59It turned out to be the 1,900-year-old grave marker of a Roman sailor named Sextus Congenus Verus.
07:07So how did it end up in New Orleans?
07:09The sequence of events is fascinating.
07:11She learned the tablet had been missing from an Italian museum for decades.
07:15A U.S. soldier from New Orleans who served in Italy during World War II
07:19had apparently taken the tablet when the museum was destroyed by Allied bombing.
07:24It got passed on to his granddaughter, who used to own the house where the tablet was found.
07:29She says she used it as a garden decoration and forgot about it.
07:34Now the FBI is in talks with Italian authorities to return the tablet to its rightful home.
07:40That's amazing.
07:42Anyways, Spirits of the Dead kind of sounds like a powerful liqueur you drink as a nightcap
07:46just before going to sleep, right?
07:48So would you like a Spirits of the Dead straight up or on the rocks?
07:52I'll have that straight up, please.
07:53Spirits of the Dead.
07:55Alright, before we head out, here's what we're tracking today.
07:58At 10 a.m. Eastern, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in two cases.
08:01One which will decide whether police can enter a home without a warrant
08:05if they believe someone inside needs emergency help.
08:07Then at 3 p.m., President Trump and FBI Director Cash Patel are holding a press conference.
08:13The topic has not yet been announced.
08:16Finally, tonight at 7.30, the president hosting a legacy dinner fundraiser at the White House
