00:00Some people want to climb Everest. We just want to see a ghost.
00:06We just want to see a ghost.
00:08What?
00:10I think it might have been a crisp packet.
00:14We could tell you.
00:16Mum and Dad letting us watch what we wanted really fired our imaginations as kids.
00:21Yes.
00:22Oh my God, it's wild.
00:24Our lives have been so crazy over the years that we don't get to see each other that often.
00:29But this is an opportunity for us to reconnect.
00:34This is great.
00:35Wow.
00:36So me and you are going to stay in some of this country's most haunted places.
00:40I forgot a pillow.
00:42Are you joking?
00:43Please.
00:44No.
00:45Is that normal?
00:46And we're going to find some ghosts?
00:48Together.
00:49That's like a life ambition.
00:51We'll keep going until we get something.
00:54What was that?
00:56I'm not going out there.
00:57Don't scream.
00:58Take care, love.
00:59Bye, darling.
01:00Bye.
01:01Come on.
01:02What?
01:03I've got 30 minutes max stay here and we're already over, so...
01:08Oh.
01:09You're turning into dads.
01:10Where...
01:11And that's not a good thing.
01:12Don't...
01:13Where have you been, anyway?
01:14Crystal shop.
01:15Oh.
01:16Oh.
01:17How much have you spent on crystals?
01:18No, no, no, no.
01:19No.
01:20No, no, no.
01:21No.
01:22No, no, no.
01:23It's annoying when you owe me money and I see you pottering off down the shops, getting
01:24just...
01:25Spending literally a fortune.
01:27it's not a good thing where have you been anyway crystal shop oh how much have you spent on
01:36crystals be honest it's annoying when you owe me money and I see you pouring off down the shops
01:41going just spending a little bit of fortune I'll pay by crystals it's just glorified gravel that's
01:50really rude so what's the plan then we're gonna stay tonight at Gloucester prison yeah just supposedly
02:00haunted as hell okay it's not a working prison right just to clarify what do you think well
02:07I don't know inmates what are you in here for theft no it's gonna just be us on our own
02:20I mean I really want to see a full-bodied apparition I definitely think so I say what I'd love to see
02:27what a proper old so good hearty Victorian ghosts like a jailer oh look there's the cathedral isn't
02:37it beautiful really beautiful towers above the little in the foreground oh here we go God this
02:45is quite something isn't it oh my god it's like going into the Big Brother house okay so we've
03:01got to meet somebody called Clive he's gonna show us around okay who's Clive so vague who's Clive Clive is a
03:09former manager of Gloucester prison mate are you sure he is who he says he is he's not some deviant
03:17that's just lured us to a derelict prison no he is absolutely who he says unless he's a ghost well
03:24imagine if you go geez Clive he's been dead for nine or thirty years is there any chance you can tell
03:30Clive to open the doors because I don't want to be waiting he did give me a phone number but unfortunately I
03:35have no mobile phone God's sake arriving somewhere like this makes me sort of glad that we weren't you
03:42know bad as kids yeah you were I remember you and the boy across the road stealing pornography from the
03:51paperbank no from Tesco's car park no we were rummaging through them if the newspaper bins and they
03:59happened to be there oh god here we go no turning back now oh there's a good idea of course it is
04:14look at that prison yard barbed wire welcome home home sweet home all right let's unpack oh
04:36this is crazy I'm not taking all this in you have to it's ridiculous we're here for one night
04:44I'm prepared of course you've got a dry road that is so you right sleeping bag you'll need that yeah
04:51what's that for comfort this is mad this is actually embarrassing well what have you got one bag
05:03where are we going we've got to go away we've got me climb you've dropped my cushion I will just go home
05:15I'm not scared to go home I'm not scared to do that good glad
05:17I guess it's for you you're right yeah stinks a bit
05:35hello oh god we thought you're an apparition welcome to HB Gloucester
05:47nice to meet you this is Charlie fantastic
05:51you're currently stood in one of the oldest parts of the prison so this was first built in 1792 yeah
06:01it's got a flat roof on top 123 people were hung at Gloucester seriously so yeah so anyway you see a
06:07flat roof it's probably had a set of gallows on top and oh my word so and so do you think some of
06:13those people haunt this place well others believe that they're due to them being hanged on site it was
06:20not a nice experience they did it for the glory of the public watching as a deterrent for committing
06:25crime you were strung upon a rope you know that's that's what happened that was a weekly occurrence
06:30here in Gloucester so if those spirits are out there they're going to be wanting to probably
06:34have their say about that yeah lost souls
06:37let's go
06:45those like the cell windows yeah so they're the cell windows and you'll see the bigger windows on the
06:54end of here yeah that's the condemned cells any window you see this bigger in the Victorian side
06:59yeah was to give the prisoners a bit of light in their last few days of life before they went off
07:04for execution grizzly if you look at the end of a wing this is where the long drop gallows is so you
07:12can see the outline of the building at the top and you'll see these different colored bricks yeah that
07:16was the doorway from those three cells I showed you on the side with the big windows yeah this was where
07:21they would drop out of that hatches and so there was nine people hung off off off this section
07:26so I thought this would be the great place for you to stay tonight if you're up for that
07:31yeah
07:36yeah fantastic
07:39go on then
07:41wow
07:42we're going to go to debtor's pool this is a place you go if you had any debt for society
07:47the local judges would throw you in here and you'd have to work hard labor you basically make hessian
07:52sacks for the flower that they ground inside the prison and a third of the money you made on those
07:58sacks two-thirds would go to the governor and you keep a third so weird it's so cold
08:07Victorian times there was no heating in here they were drinking boiled river water you know
08:13and eating gruel oh that's grim another problem in here was typhoid and smallpox oh there's no
08:20ventilation so lots of people died from disease I just you just can't even imagine if those walls
08:29could talk in terms of noises for tonight what are we really listening out for well knocks door slams
08:39anything whistles like a woohoo or you know something like that which you can sometimes put down to
08:46maybe students on the outside what is is that is that normal not for the lights going really
08:54okay well I think it's time for you to see yourselves what would you like to say so
09:02that would be great actually that would be brilliant you couldn't take a unicorn possibly sure
09:16right you're on lower a wing and we're gonna take you to cell four okay so here's your room oh
09:24oh you can stay on the top one it's literally a prison cell I love how everything's secured to the
09:38walls have a good night guys oh just behave yourselves okay okay thank you so much thanks
09:45Clive should we unpack do you think yeah I'll tell you what I'm gonna make this really lovely I've got
09:56some lovely crystal points I'm gonna put up here my wash bag here oh measly wash bag mum put this in
10:06oh that's sweet got my dry shampoo great eye patches face masks foot masks I've got some lovely stuff don't you feel a lot more
10:21comforted by my nice things I mean yeah oh my god it's a never-ending suitcase it's just like a clown suitcase
10:33oh right here we go you do realize we're only spending one night in here yeah I mean you hope
10:39that we're only spending one night in here what if Clive never comes back what if Clive was never Clive
10:46what do you mean what if he doesn't exist
10:51I was just thinking should we order a takeaway yeah can I have your phone um can I look on your whatsapps
11:00no no definitely not is your card details saved on there yeah is there a pin for that 1996 after
11:09Euro 96 yes knew it knew it
11:19Pad Thai yes four sets of spring rolls because I get hungry later Thai crackers times three
11:30all dead I've ordered it
11:34you're a dick your nose has gone really red spiteful
11:42oh not necessary so I've just been doing some research right right in 1796 Thomas Yem was hung for stealing wheat
12:00for all the things to steal at least go out on stealing something good James Cornuck 1796 sheep
12:08he stole his sheep but stuff like stealing wheat forgery you got hung for forgery 1814 I used to
12:15forge mum's signature on notes just to my PE teacher so I couldn't do PE and my PE teacher was like how could you have been on your period for 14 weeks
12:28I could say wow my mum signed it so I mean that's yeah you could have been anemic
12:37food's ready get in there get stuck in how excited for this are you
13:06need sustenance all right
13:08hi thanks god this is good I'm so hungry what I'm really worried about is you falling asleep really
13:20quickly yeah every night at 2am I wake up to go to the toilet for what one or two one
13:27yeah but you're like a hippo once you're asleep you're done there's no waking you up
13:54do you remember we got burgled just at night do you know what I wasn't there for that that's I think
14:07that our family's only real brush with crime and the law law yeah so it was like it was summer everyone
14:14was in bed and I could hear this um sort of creaking of the bin I was like that's strange it's probably
14:21just a cat and then eventually I heard dad come out of his room and him shouting who's there and then
14:28I was like oh my god someone's in the house and I walked into the landing and dad was walking down
14:35the stairs and the burglar turned around and said all right I'm going as if to say it's been massively
14:41inconvenient and then he basically dived into the living room grabbed my laptop which was on the side
14:47and then dived out the window and then me and dad chased this guy all the way down the road and
14:52we were both in our pants and the worst that is horrible that is horrible it was when mum like
14:59would buy you know holy pants our underwear so we'd have the same one but just different sizes
15:05you know when the last thing's completely gone and it's just loincloth just fluffing around
15:13right you tidy this up looks like that that is the worst job I'm gonna get the scientific equipment
15:25wow so the theory is let me take this out this is like a little radio that's just gonna get through
15:36all the different stations yeah so what you're gonna do is wear this blindfold yeah put these headphones
15:42on what I want you to do is just repeat any words that you hear or phrases and I am going to ask
15:50questions yeah and the spirits are going to use you yeah as a kind of conduit oh great and don't
15:58me say silly things like no I'm not gonna make it up I'll say what can you see anything no okay
16:07I've turned it up now sorry to expect it was that a ghost or just you can you hear anything white noise I
16:22think the problem is we're not picking up any radio stations yeah it's nothing there's nothing is there
16:31well I don't think this is gonna work well can you go up there you might be able to get
16:35I don't know at least capital oh okay music well go over there classical music do I need to keep the
16:45blindfold on so I can't no take the blindfold off take the blindfold off hang on keep wandering around
16:56what oh my god guy getting voices okay put the blindfold on okay what is your name sofa
17:17john were you a prisoner here what were you incarcerated for round table
17:29um you're losing me hands hands strangled someone so socks membrane
17:44oh god a rib mix
17:52I can't let's just leave him up there for a bit I'm gonna go to the toilet
18:12buried buried buried buried and that was quite a sinister voice are you still there
18:25well what should we do should we go on a little walk around yeah that would be great
18:45oh we go oh god don't leave me behind bring it down a notch
18:56definitely colder here definitely yeah I can feel that yeah
19:06god that is bleak isn't it that is so bleak imagine knowing that you're getting executed the next day
19:16I'm getting a little bit scared oh yeah you're my canary down the mine so now I'm getting a bit scared are you
19:29yeah yeah let's just go to bed come on let's cozy up like the old times
19:36god are we gonna be able to properly sleep in here tonight I don't I honestly don't know
19:47because normally at home I have to listen to like an audio book so do I what do you listen to
19:51stuff about world war ii that is so typical of you
19:58and I know I never knew you
20:14it'd be nice without the kids waking me up this is actually blissful it is asleep without kids
20:30yeah with mama
20:32can you see that mirror above the sink there I can't look into it because I just think
20:41what's going to appear behind me and the people that you know inhabited the cell over the years
20:48over the centuries you know the eyes that have looked into that mirror
20:52it's I don't know it's quite moving actually
21:11recording just settling down for the night
21:18how are you feeling
21:21yeah I'm alright you know
21:24god
21:26I look awful
21:28god my skin
21:30apart from that spot my skin still looks great
21:33you look like John Smith from Pocahontas
21:35I look like Frankenstein
21:38all right well
21:41we're all tucked up
21:43just hoping that nothing visits us tonight because I
21:47I don't think I can cope with it
21:49over and out
21:51I might put some fake tan on
22:06really
22:08it's almost midnight
22:10will you come with me to the toilets
