00:00Well, nothing was easy down in the Big Easy for the Giants in Week 5
00:04after dominating most of the first half in this game.
00:06Big Blue, they were doomed by turnovers in the second half
00:09and fell to the Saints in New Orleans 26-14.
00:12Let's talk about it with the sports anchor and sports reporter for New York 1,
00:16Stephanie Manicero, joins me now.
00:18Steph, what's going on? How are you doing?
00:20Doing good. Dexter, how are you?
00:22I'm doing well, better than the Giants.
00:24Listen, most times you go to New Orleans, you feel good.
00:27You get some good food down there,
00:28but you can't feel good getting back on the plane today.
00:31Tough day, especially after handing the Chargers their first loss of the season.
00:35Last week, you turn around, you hand the Saints their first win this week,
00:39and I mean literally handed the Saints their first win.
00:43Five turnovers in this one, three fumbles, two picks for Jackson Dart.
00:47This was a game the Giants just kept shooting themselves in the foot.
00:49I mean, all the penalties, right?
00:50This offense is not good enough to play from behind the chains.
00:54The Slayton fumble was bad, but the Scadaboo fumble was just an absolute dagger.
01:00You're on the 11, right, driving in the red zone with the chance to take the lead,
01:04at least cut into the lead, and suddenly you find yourselves down 12 after that 86-yard fumble return.
01:11So you certainly felt that this one, the Giants are missing Malik Neighbors,
01:15and unfortunately that's just going to be the way they're going to have to play for the rest of the season.
01:19Yeah, you definitely felt that in this one, and I think speaking of feelings, Steph,
01:22this felt like a game the Giants had to win, especially as you mentioned.
01:27They were looking to build off their first win of the season in week four over the Chargers.
01:31When you look at this, how bad was this loss, and what went wrong, obviously,
01:35other than the turnovers for the G-men down in New Orleans today?
01:39Yeah, you said that this was a game that preseason, right,
01:42everyone was kind of talking about how hard the Giants' schedule was,
01:46and this was the one game where you were like, okay, we can win that game.
01:49We can beat the Saints, and a lot of people had thought,
01:52maybe wait at least until this week five game over the Saints
01:55to start your new quarterback, Jackson Dart.
01:57Obviously, they started him a week earlier, but this was definitely a game you need to win,
02:02going to face the Eagles on short rest in Thursday night football.
02:06So, yeah, this one, there were some positives from Dart.
02:11We could talk about that, but all in all, this is just, you know,
02:14five minutes left in this game, and I was like, is it over yet?
02:16Like, it was just really hard to watch.
02:18I think Giants fans were saying the same thing.
02:20It was a really, really rough day for the team overall,
02:23but you just mentioned Jackson Dart, a rough day for the Giants' rookie quarterback
02:27in his second career start, and we do want to mention that.
02:30It is his second career start.
02:31Now, he had a fumble.
02:32He threw two picks, as you mentioned before.
02:34Any concern about his confidence going forward,
02:37and is it possible that the Giants made the move
02:39to go to him over Russell Wilson too soon?
02:43You know, Jackson Dart, just from listening to him, everything he said,
02:46he sounds like he is a really confident kid,
02:48so I hope he doesn't lose confidence.
02:51I think when you're a rookie on a team that is one and four,
02:54there's, you know, expectations,
02:56and there's certainly a lot of expectations on Jackson Dart.
03:00I personally was disappointed that the Giants kind of did not stick to the plan.
03:05They didn't show a whole lot of discipline.
03:07They turned to Dart before the calendar even turned to October,
03:11but I get it, right?
03:12I get the decision.
03:13I get all the hype from fans.
03:15There's a lot more inspiration in Jackson Dart
03:18than there is from Russell Wilson at this point,
03:20so I certainly get the move,
03:21especially with Dable kind of coaching for his job.
03:25Yeah, moments today, Dart looked really good.
03:27There was that 20-yard scramble in good coverage, picked up 20.
03:32There's a good quarterback keeper on third and three
03:34that I thought, you know, he had some bright moments there.
03:37Obviously, the fumble was not good untouched,
03:41and two picks, one on a fourth down where you're like,
03:44okay, that's as good as a punt.
03:46So, I don't know.
03:48I mean, I hope he certainly doesn't lose his confidence,
03:50but I more so, Dexter, hope that he doesn't get hurt, right?
03:55He's young.
03:56Yeah, and that's the thing because you want,
03:58I think if you're a Giants fan or a Giants organization,
04:00you want to see him out there developing as much as he can.
04:04It feels like now with the season of one and four for the Giants,
04:06this is what it's all about.
04:07Can you develop Jackson Dart?
04:09Does he look like the franchise quarterback?
04:11And Brian Dable needs that also because he's trying to save his job.
04:14But there's a very quick turnaround for the Giants this week, Steph,
04:18as they face the defending champion Eagles on Thursday night.
04:22What do the one and four Giants have to do in order to right the ship,
04:25sort of, and try to pull off this upset on Thursday night football?
04:28You know, they're really thin at the receiver spot right now.
04:32So I think they're going to have to work on some plays,
04:34build some strength there.
04:35I think you have a lot more confidence going into that game.
04:38If you had won today, certainly, right?
04:40Saying we have momentum.
04:42Look at this new quarterback we have.
04:44I worry, though, with the Eagles losing today,
04:47that they're going to come back even stronger than had they won today, right?
04:51Nick Sirianni, Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley in a primetime game,
04:56certainly going to bring everything they've got.
04:59So the Giants are going to have to pull out all the stops in this one.
05:02Again, I feel a lot more confident if you have Malik neighbors,
05:05but you hope they can figure out some options with what they're working with now.
05:09Yeah, you hope they can.
05:11A rough time for the Giants down in New Orleans this week in week five
05:16as they fall to the Saints.
05:18They're now one and four in the season.
05:19As I mentioned, they will be playing the Eagles on Thursday night football.
05:22So quick turnaround for the Giants to see if they can get their second win of the season.
05:26That is Stephanie Manicero.
05:27Check her out on New York One, great sports anchor, sports reporter.
05:31Always good to talk some New York sports with you, my friend.
05:33We'll talk soon.
05:35One day we'll talk after a Windex talk.
05:36I hope so.
05:38It's about time.
05:38We've got to do that.
