00:00these games though brian i mean aside from the offense and the season opener the last two
00:08the rangers really haven't looked that bad though no no they haven't uh the first season opener was
00:14a dud so it is what it is there's a lot of that aside yeah we'll put that on the back burner for
00:21listen this is a good hockey team i'm gonna say it now this is uh this is the opposite of
00:29what we saw last year with their 12 and 4 start a little bit of smoke and mirrors there were some
00:37holes they got some timely goals they got some good decent enough goaltending anyway last year
00:42this year everything and this is the chances that they got particularly last night against edmonton
00:47against a very good team a perennial cup contender in edmonton correct two of the best players in the
00:54world the chances they got were based on or was from execution of their structure they played a
01:01patient game and then when they had the puck they were direct i thought everyone contributed i thought
01:06you know you want to get a goal every three or four games from your fourth line that line could have had
01:12three or four and strip alone could have had three or four yeah he had a numerous amount of chances
01:19the carrot hit a post he had another great day in the first period and it all was off of their
01:25structure so that's what i think will translate they have to stay the course you cannot cheat the game
01:32for offense because then it'll look like it looked last year so i really like we will get into it but i
01:39really like you know what their top guys are doing to get chances there are some guys that need a little
01:47kick in the pants i think if that happens this is a scary team and in a week honestly a weak division
01:54so like even because the washington game you know washington just played a tampa team where
02:01you know they kind of pushed back and got a big win against tampa there's washington's a good team
02:07people kind of overlook them every year they smoke and mirrors no they're they're a good team they got
02:10enough yeah they got goalie in that game and then if stewart skinner was which one's a good one dr jack
02:17right he was dr jackal which one you know and he does that feast or famine act and it was feasting
02:24for for edmonton last night with stewart skinner yeah and they limited edmonton as a whole to three
02:30high danger chances i think defensively this is it's night and day from last season there is a total buy-in
02:40on the defensive system 100 and it is it's i mean when you think about it what have they given up
02:48six goals in total four have come with an actual goalie in net yeah you know so yeah like that alone
02:57is very encouraging from a defensive standpoint but i wrote about this for my column after the edmonton
03:05game for a team that has historically had such strong starts in the first year under a new coach
03:13i don't think that growing pains at the beginning of this season could be the worst thing in the world
03:19because i believe mike sullivan is here to build something that's going to last a foundation that they can
03:26actually build upon that is going to stay in place and not going to be flimsy and movable
03:34and that's what the rangers wanted when they brought in mike sullivan they don't want to do this whole
03:40you know new coaching staff every two years who the hell does you know they ideally want to build
03:47something that's going to go the distance not just to the stanley cup final this june but season
03:52after season after season after season perennial contenders that is the goal for everybody
