00:00matt rempe ryan reeves fight night at the garden
00:06um it's actually funny because we were talking to rempe earlier in the day
00:12and he was talking about how his goal coming into the season was to gain the trust of the
00:17coaching staff and it's so clear that he has i mean i said it during training camp after that
00:24devil's game that matt rempe had won over mike sullivan in that in that moment in the span of
00:30that 16 minute game um but he it's so clear how much more sullivan trusts rempe than peter laviolette
00:39ever did i mean between the power play two reps the increased ice time um and he's he's working
00:45with it you know he's he's improving and we're finally getting to see what it looks like when
00:52he gets regular shifts which i think is something that we all were kind of hoping to see because it
00:58wasn't that he wasn't getting any of that and you couldn't tell what he was as an actual player rather
01:04than just this guy that comes in and fights yeah i mean it's been it's impressive and hopefully it's
01:10not you know too long term he'd leave the game and that's big boy hockey that's that's that's a veteran
01:17guy who was gonna fight on his own terms and ryan reeves that was why ryan reeves is who he is i mean
01:26he got to get a good lick on parsenden and then decided i mean his claws were off before he even
01:32knew if rempe was next to him and that's just an awareness that ryan reeves has he's smart he's a
01:37smart individual uh rangers fans know him and you know he kind of made rempe think about it for a
01:45little bit then got a lick in another guy then you know fought the big man did well early i think the
01:51impressive thing for matt rempe is he took he took a couple early which probably is what caused him
01:56to leave but hung in and got a few himself um so i just yeah i got a lot of respect it's it's not easy
02:07to do and he has gotten better it is a lot it's great for your confidence but physically the actual
02:16physical motion and playing becomes a lot easier if you get four or five shifts a period as opposed
02:21to one or two or three it's just it's like doing a workout and then sitting down for 25 minutes and
02:29then getting back into a high intensity workout and you just your leg sees up a lot quicker when you
02:35stay moving especially as a big man you can start doing things and then you'll see more patience
02:39when he gets into positions with the puck because he has reps he's right you know early in the air
02:44he's hurrying things a little bit because he gets so excited you have a scoring chance right you can
02:49kind of bring your heart rate down a little when that puck comes after more reps so hopefully it's
02:52not long term because he's a big element for them yeah yeah no he was talking about how it allows
02:57him to feel the game better you know you're more involved um and i feel like you we've been able to
03:04see that from him i i really do feel like he looks like a different player out there um think about the
03:10ice like the first five minutes of a period in the middle five and the last whatever it's it gets
03:17worse so if you haven't touched it in a while then you go on the ice first of all you're cold and then
03:21you're like this ice is terrible yeah it people don't realize like you step on bad ice for the first
03:26time if you're going through it each shift it gets a little worse it's it's like you can feel it
03:29if you sit there forever and then you have to go on you're like what is this and then when you're six
03:34nine it's probably like uh we're gonna right and for him too he was you know he's such a ball of energy
03:45too that in those circumstances when he did get his chance to go on the ice he was erratic you know
03:52because he just wanted to do something you know wanted to make an impact wanted to you know and
03:57that probably played a role into the you know the the hits that were a little out of control and
04:03things like that so playing a whole game in one shift yeah right right it's not it's not easy but i
04:10i think that sullivan showing you know that he has trust in him and i mean it also is beneficial
04:18for the lineup as a whole because it just balances out the ice time a little bit i think that was a
04:24really big emphasis for mike sullivan coming into this season um and i feel like we've seen that uh
04:29on the ice time sheets just balancing um the ice time out because you know managing workloads of
04:36certain players that double on both the power play and the penalty kill you know you need to be able
04:41only dressing a certain amount of guys you need to be able to trust them you know what's the point
04:46you know what's the point if you're not going to trust him and not play it it's so fast too the
04:51game is so fast you can't play three lines you can't you can't hammer down on two guys especially
04:58center ice so it's yeah it's a good approach we've seen i think we've seen more energy we've seen more
05:05structure they've looked they look more like themselves from two years ago than than what we saw at the end of last year
