00:00Rangers dropped another one at home and this time it was to the league's worst team the San Jose

00:05Sharks I don't know what's going on with this squad but they still haven't been able to put

00:10up a W in the win column when they play at the garden John Chick host of the Locked On Rangers

00:16podcast joins us now John what's going on man it's like they got to change the hashtag no quitting

00:22NY to no win in NY let's get straight into this thing 0-4-1 at MSG they were able to fight back

00:30after being down early but they couldn't get that first home win Adam Fox said that's pretty

00:35piss poor out of us and not the way we want to play hockey so what stands out to you most about

00:42the Rangers in these home losses you know it's kind of been a mixed bag so far and for all intents and

00:48purposes they're 0-5 at home and we can say 0-4-1 they lost in overtime of course the Sharks last

00:53night but early in the season I feel like this team was playing well and they just weren't getting

00:59the breaks they got goalied a couple of times both against the Capitals and the Oilers by Lindgren

01:05and Skinner respectively not exactly Vesna you know candidate season in a season out but I think both

01:11you know underrated goalies in a sense but honestly these last two games against Minnesota and then

01:17obviously last night against San Jose just not good enough and to your point Brandon you know with

01:21them talking about you know the piss poor start to the game Adam Fox used those words that's just

01:27unacceptable you know this is the NHL and I feel like maybe last night they just took this team

01:34lightly and it sounds like both from the comments that we got from Adam Fox as well as from JT Miller

01:38it would suggest that that they thought they were just going to cruise their way to an easy win

01:42the NHL is no joke if you're lucky you know throughout the entire 82 game season you might

01:48be able to get one or two games where you can basically just kind of cruise to a win but it's

01:53certainly not the norm and it wasn't the norm last night and right from the second that puck dropped

01:57right until the final uh buzzer you know obviously in overtime there uh the Sharks to me look at the

02:01hungrier team the more determined team and if you take away those six minutes that the Rangers you know

02:06scored three goals in the second period the Sharks were to me far and away the better team and that's

02:11obviously not good you can't take anything for granted in this league and I think the Rangers

02:14were guilty of uh of doing that in this game yeah I don't I can't remember which player it was but he

02:19was like oh we didn't respect this team enough coming into this game and then you hear Mike Sullivan

02:23after the game saying like hey this is professional sports this is the NHL there are good players on each

02:29team and we saw that last night and I love the the no pun intended about the Sharks being the more

02:35hungrier team but I think you were right man from start to finish is that they they I didn't know

02:40I didn't know they didn't play like a winless team uh last night something everyone's talking about

02:46this morning obviously Ryan Reeves Matt Rimpy that fight I guess thoughts on the Rimpy fight and and

02:53losing him for the game like are you now tired of this whole Rimpy mania thing I'm not really tired of

03:00it I tend to like Matt Rimpy and I feel for Rimpy after what happened in this game because this was his

03:08first chance to not play on the fourth line to join the top nine now granted part of that is

03:13necessitated by the fact that the Rangers obviously don't have a lot of depth right now they haven't

03:17been scoring goals they're trying to shake things up a little bit but he got his first uh start in

03:21the top nine his ice time has been up this season uh he's been out there in more critical spots in the

03:26game than we've seen in the past and look uh you fight Ryan Reeves I mean there's a certain danger

03:32that comes with that and a lot of players in this league have found that out the hard way the last

03:36bunch of years uh it was an entertaining fight it was back and forth I thought for sure Rimpy held

03:39his own a couple of big punches landed either way but for him to get injured you know I I really felt

03:44for him and this is a team right now that as I just mentioned you know they're struggling when it

03:48comes to their depth so whether it's Rimpy or anybody else they can really ill afford uh any more

03:53injuries now they did call up Brennan Offman a little bit earlier today and obviously he's somebody

03:58that's got some more offensive upside than somebody like Matt Rimpy um so maybe Offman could give this

04:03team a spark even though he has struggled in the past when he's been up with the Raiders but yeah

04:06obviously an unfortunate break for Matt Rimpy you know getting hurt in some way uh during that fight

04:11with the uh the dreaded upper body injury because as we all know in hockey there are only two injuries

04:16it's either upper body injury or lower body injury for Rimpy it sounds like it's the former but uh

04:21speedy recovery to Rimpy and hopefully he gets back sooner rather than later it can even be his pride

04:25too because Reeves not had a couple Michael Mike Tyson punch out uh shots delivered in that one but

04:31to follow up on that if you know you're going to get more TOI and you're going to get more of a role

04:36uh on this team why would you go up to the guy before the game and ask him if he wants to go

04:43like that's what Ryan Reeves said on sport I saw it on sports center he's like yeah Rimpy came up to me

04:48and asked if I wanted to go so why go looking for the business if you're going to get more of a role

04:53it's a good question I don't think there are too many guys especially over the last handful of years

04:58that have been jumping out of their shoes so to speak to to fight Ryan Reeves but my best guess

05:03there is that he's trying Rimpy that is to basically spark his team a little bit you know

05:09we've seen instances in the past where whether it's the Rangers or anybody else in the NHL

05:13uh they can occasionally get a lift out of you know dropping the gloves and the Rangers were coming off

05:17of a tough loss against uh Minnesota a game where they didn't play particularly great especially in

05:22the first half of that game and when the fight happened between Rimpy and Reeves the Rangers were

05:26already down 1-0 and I feel like at that point in the game uh Rimpy just felt like okay you know

05:31what I gotta do what I gotta do here this is a dangerous assignment but I'm gonna take it I'm

05:34gonna try to wake my team up snap them out of it a little bit and hopefully get things going and um

05:39again unfortunate that he got hurt but I can at least understand why Rimpy did it I think Rimpy has

05:44been pretty good at picking his spots as far as when he fights and when he doesn't um he's you know

05:49not fighting it as as high of a rate as he did when he first came into the league but last night I mean I

05:53at least understand why he did it it's not an assignment that I would be looking to do to play

05:57Brian Reeves but uh you can understand where he's coming from with that one yeah Rimpy looked like

06:01Victor Wimbignano out there fighting on skates man that dude's so damn tall um all right let's move

06:07on because they're gonna obviously move on they head on a road they head on the road for a four game

06:13swing in western Canada and Seattle so would you call this loss to San Jose a wake-up call

06:20and what would you I guess call a successful road trip for these guys well it's funny you mentioned

06:27that Brandon because that was basically the exact same question that Mike Sullivan was asked after

06:31this game last night and I'll pretty much answer the same way he does this has to be a wake-up call

06:37like to me it's unacceptable again we've talked about this earlier but it's unacceptable to just assume

06:42that you're gonna cruise to a win it seems like the Rangers at least to some degree did that in this

06:46game last night but you got to understand that you know this is uh this is the NHL there's really no

06:51easy games and I think it is a little bit of a blessing in disguise that the Rangers are now going

06:55to begin a four game road trip because they've been better I mean it's a low bar don't get me wrong

07:00but they've been better on the road so far this season than they've been in mass and score guard

07:04and they've certainly been scoring more goals and honestly coming off that performance against the

07:08Sharks if they were to be at home in the next game I mean they're gonna start hearing it a little

07:12bit from the fans they were hearing a little bit from the fans during this game as well certainly

07:16after this game um so going on the road I mean maybe that galvanized the team a little bit maybe

07:21that's wishful thinking but uh things have kind of clicked on the road a little bit more than at

07:25home so far this season so four four road games in a row a successful road trip I mean gotta win at

07:32least two of them I think right now if you're a Ranger fan you'd probably sign up for certainly three

07:36and one I think you would certainly uh sign up for that in a heartbeat uh two one and one I think that

07:41can work as well you know that's five points out of a possible eight but more than anything you know

07:45coming together as a team giving the effort every night and finishing your scoring chances because

07:49that's something that has really plagued this team so far this season you look earlier in the in the

07:54in the season earlier in the month and there's all these games where they're losing one nothing

07:57they're losing two nothing they're not scoring goals and they were creating chances in a lot of

08:02those games but finishing the opportunities has been a serious problem so that's something

08:06that uh myself and I'm sure Ranger fans everywhere would like to see them do a better job of

08:10you know during this four game road trip that's coming up here yeah not just Rangers fans but

08:14New York sports fans as a whole man outside of the Knicks like there needs to be some sort of spark

08:18or some sort of energy to the city and uh hopefully the Rangers come back uh uh after this uh this road

08:24trip and they can get things going at home hey John appreciate you hopping on man definitely going to
