00:00Okay, I'll figure it out.
00:08All right, where is this thing?
00:10We're converting the wall mount faucet in our kitchen into a deck mount.
00:13Yeah, I can do this.
00:15So I need to turn the water off.
00:17Aunt Gooch, she might have blocked me.
00:21Hello.
00:22Hello, how are you?
00:23Now, luckily, my favorite aunt lives in Wisconsin, and she is a third-generation plumber.
00:28Meanwhile, it's also looking at a job.
00:30Oh, wow.
00:31I told the designer, Dan, that I knew how to turn this off, and I actually don't.
00:34If you could try to walk me through it, that would be great.
00:36Every house should have a main shut-up.
00:38Okay.
00:39That'll shut off everything to the house.
00:40You know, right now, it's just like that.
00:42Obviously, no turn-off down there.
00:43It's got to be outside somewhere, right?
00:45Maybe.
00:46In California, here in Wisconsin, they're all in the basement.
00:49Oh, that makes sense.
00:50In Wisconsin, because of the weather.
00:51I mean, in California, people have their washers and dryers outside.
00:54Hmm.
00:55You probably have to walk around your house.
00:57Okay.
00:58It's just gonna look like a valve, a twist handle, or a lever handle to shut it off.
01:02Gooch, maybe it's, like, over here.
01:04This, is this it?
01:05No, I don't.
01:06Oh!
01:07That's not it.
01:08Ew.
01:09No.
01:10Oh, my God, money.
01:11$100 bill?
01:12This must have been rich party people who lived here before.
01:15Remember, Graham used to say, don't flash your money around.
01:18Is it traditionally, like, attached to the house?
01:20Yes, you know, somewhere along the side.
01:22Is it this?
01:23Yes, that's the valve.
01:24That'll shut off everything to the house.
01:25Oh!
01:26Turn that valve up.
01:27Oh!
01:28All right, it's off.
01:29You should mark that with something so you know.
01:30Renovating is very stressful, and it's just nice to know that my family is there for
01:35me when I need them.
01:37Love you.
01:38Love you, too.
01:39Bye.
01:40Can I just say, David would have never figured this out?
01:41Oh, honey, it all started with a dingy motel in the heart of Palm Springs, just begging
01:53for some serious glitter and glamour.
01:55My partner, David, and I transformed it into the most enchanting place on the planet, but
01:59the story doesn't stop there.
02:01David and I have decided to do the unthinkable.
02:04We're moving in together, and this time we're taking our dreams straight to Hollywood.
02:08We'll create a spectacular home, dripping with glitz and all the Hollywood glam you can
02:13imagine.
02:14The spotlight is on us, honey, and we are here to work.
02:21I bought this house.
02:23Thank God I love it.
02:24My partner, David, and I recently bought this 1922-built three-bedroom, two-bathroom Hollywood
02:30home.
02:31It's got a big backyard and a pool.
02:33The house was already in good condition, but this is our first home together, so we
02:37really want to make it our own.
02:39With the help of our fabulous designer, Dan Vickery, we've started on a major revamp of
02:43the kitchen, turned the primary suite into a peaceful retreat.
02:47Welcome to the closet.
02:48Wow.
02:49Created a walk-in closet fit for a queen and her king, and glammed up the stairwell.
02:54We set a budget of $150,000, and so far we've spent $30,000, which means we've got $120,000
03:01left to finish the kitchen and give cosmetic lifts to the rest of the spaces, including
03:06the living room, dining room, butler's pantry, office, and a little love to the backyard.
03:11What do you say we tackle the office and that jungle of the backyard next?
03:15Sure, we've allocated $30,000 for those areas, which sounds like a lot, but our backyard is big and
03:20outdoor spaces cost a lot more than you think.
03:22True, but in terms of an office, what is our plan?
03:25We're not exactly office people.
03:28Well, because music is such a big part of your life, I was thinking maybe we turn the office into a musical.
03:34I love that idea.
03:37But we're going to have to move quickly because we have to finish this whole renovation in just three weeks
03:41in time for our housewarming and my birthday party, and that's not our only party.
03:46In just one week, we're throwing a one-year anniversary party at the Trixie Motel in Palm Springs,
03:50so, yeah, the pressure's on.
03:53I know David is stressed, but I've got an idea to run by him.
03:56Thankfully, I know one way to get David to agree with pretty much anything.
04:01What are you doing?
04:02Making you a special drinky-poo.
04:05Aw.
04:06Of course, I have to do it on a trash can because we don't have a bar.
04:08We don't have any services.
04:09I know.
04:10The usual?
04:11Yes, please.
04:12Wow.
04:19Harder, faster, harder, faster.
04:21I need the ice chips.
04:23Harder, faster.
04:27Jeez.
04:28Oh, it made me dizzy.
04:29Let's see ice chips.
04:30Oh.
04:35Come to mama.
04:36Dislocated my shoulder trying to make sure you have a nice drink.
04:39That is so good.
04:40Okay, so we both love this backyard space, but I hate to say it. I know we have enough on our plate. I think we need to figure out some kind of bar situation out here.
04:49Mm-hmm.
04:50Can I show you my idea?
04:51Yeah.
04:52Okay, come over here.
04:53This is a whole, like, unused area, and I had this idea.
04:56Yeah?
04:57I don't know, it's just like, I can't imagine our house without...
05:01We're gay men.
05:02Mm-hmm.
05:03We need a bar.
05:04Several bars.
05:05Right.
05:06Your name's David Silver.
05:07It is.
05:08But you love gold and gold finishings.
05:09I do.
05:10And I was thinking, you know, at the Trixie Motel, we have the Barbara Bar.
05:12Mm-hmm.
05:13I think here in the backyard of our house, we could do the silver bar, but make the furnishing and stuff all gold.
05:18You know I love that.
05:19With a strict timeline, I think the most effective thing here is for us to divide and conquer.
05:23If you take care of all this outdoor stuff, I can work on the music room with Dan.
05:28I was so stressed, like, five minutes ago, I don't know what happened.
05:32I wish I could say that renovating my dream home was the only thing on my plate, but frankly, girls gotta work.
05:37So today, I'm heading over to my friend Katya's place, and we're gonna record our podcast.
05:42Oh, I can always count on the air conditioning to be right.
05:45Meet Locker.
05:46Yes.
05:47Polar Express, baby.
05:48It's very beautiful in here, and I'll say this.
05:51It's very you.
05:52Do you feel like Dakota Johnson?
05:53No, I feel like RuPaul.
05:55For those of you who don't know, Katya and I have been working together for almost ten years.
06:00I always thought you were so ugly, but today, you look kind of attractive.
06:07Katya's home is a true expression of her personality.
06:12Expect the unexpected.
06:14Yes, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh.
06:18Everything from cool art to vintage mask to taxidermy.
06:22Katya and I have a number of successful ventures together, both in and out of drag, including a live show, which we've toured all around the world.
06:30We've written New York Times bestsellers together.
06:32Should we do the pod?
06:33I guess we should.
06:34We host a weekly award-winning podcast where we cover everything from pop culture to work wives to one-night stands.
06:41Hello?
06:42And we always share the details of our personal lives.
06:46We're halfway through the renovation.
06:48We still have to finish the outdoor, several parts of the interior.
06:52Plus, we have the motel one-year anniversary next week.
06:55Plus, my birthday party slash housewarming is the week after, so it's a little bit like the perfect storm.
07:00There's never been more of an opportunity for a total, complete trio of flops.
07:05What is your plan for divide and conquer of the style of this house?
07:11He's letting me handle my music room because he's working on the pool.
07:14Yeah.
07:15So I'm trying to find some way for the room to not have all brand new stuff.
07:20What are you...
07:21Take the boar.
07:24You want me to put one of these taxidermy things in my house?
07:28Put the wild boar in there. She's so old.
07:30I've been a vegetarian since I was nine.
07:32You don't have to eat it.
07:36Okay, so the boar, not for me, but if anyone can help me bring a one-of-a-kind flair to the music room, it's Katya.
07:42David's planning to have a bar outside, but I definitely know that I want to have a cool bar inside, too, for when our friends are over and we're playing music.
07:49I'm trying to push David to do vintage, secondhand, antique, and I have found some options for a bar, but they are a little wacky and wild.
07:56This one is a handcrafted solid wood tiki bar, but that's not the bar.
08:00No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
08:01That's not the bar.
08:02We're not doing tiki.
08:03Solid wood, traditional 1960s...
08:04Hate it.
08:05It's not for me.
08:06I hate the chairs. I hate the color. I hate everything about it.
08:10Okay, solid wood, traditional 1960s...
08:12Hate it.
08:13It's not for me.
08:14I hate the chairs. I hate the color. I hate everything about it.
08:17Next.
08:18Seventies green retro bar, handcrafted leather and oak vintage piece.
08:23That is cool.
08:24The size is nice. The color is great.
08:27What's the conditions?
08:28That looks good to me.
08:29Green leather? That's so chic.
08:31It's just $1,200 is a little steep. We are on a budget.
08:34Yeah.
08:35But if we can go there, pick this up, it's the right thing.
08:38It means we can now build the rest of the room around it.
08:41Okay, but you get what you pay for.
08:42We hope. I think we have to go in person to find that out.
08:45Can you come over later this week and we can go together?
08:47I am very busy. Sure.
08:49I need Katya to take me because I don't drive, for one.
08:52But also, if you have to pick up something from a stranger you met on the internet,
08:56it's always wise to bring your zaniest friend with you.
08:59Listeners, we will let you know what we think of the vintage piece.
09:03Alright, and that's...
09:04Oh, .
09:05Should I have plugged this in?
09:07So I'm set up to get some work done.
09:16Yeah, I would say so.
09:19Given that I'm officially taking the lead on the backyard, Dan and I have discussed a great preliminary plan,
09:24and today we're meeting to put that plan into action.
09:26What is your vision for this space?
09:27Well, it's a space for entertaining.
09:29So we need a surface that we can all sit around, but also that could function as a bar.
09:34Alright.
09:35We're calling it the silver bar, so it has to be grand.
09:38Okay.
09:39It's named after me, but it looks like my vibe, which is gold.
09:43My idea is that we would actually make a table for the center of the space, bar height.
09:46When you want to entertain, someone can be back there bartending.
09:49When not, you can have stools there, have a nice little cozy dinner.
09:52Exactly.
09:53If it's going to be a bar, it needs to be smooth and functional.
09:58So I think that a tiled table is actually going to be your best option for the versatility that you want.
10:03Ooh, tiling the table.
10:04Yeah.
10:05That's fun.
10:06Another way to bring in some color.
10:07Yeah.
10:08Some texture.
10:09Like you said that you want this space to be grand.
10:10Exactly.
10:11The silver bar.
10:14We'll have a high top table fit for a drag queen and her king with seating for all of their subjects.
10:20We want to amp up the backyard's lush vibe with a green backdrop and adorn the space with golden touches.
10:25Stunning!
10:27The backyard has so much going for it, but it really needs that Trixie and David special touch.
10:32So we'll add beautiful outdoor seating for guests and glam up that Hollywood jungle vibe with some pink and gold accents.
10:39I can't wait.
10:40It's going to be fierce.
10:41All right.
10:42Yeah.
10:43We've got less than three weeks to finish our entire renovation in time for my birthday party and the housewarming.
10:50But thankfully we've got Dan and his team keeping things moving because the Trixie Motel anniversary party is less than a week away.
10:56So David, you and I need to go to Palm Springs to do a little zhuzhing.
11:00In our race to finish the motel to get it up and running, there's a few spaces we didn't have time for, including the sunroom and the patio.
11:11One thing every drag queen loves is a reveal.
11:14So I want to stage something perfect to get our guests excited.
11:17This back area is right off this unused sunroom situation, which is right off the bar.
11:23So we have the bar and the lounge right on the other side of this wall.
11:26I don't see why we can't create something out here that makes people just come outside and enjoy themselves.
11:31I mean, with limited space, we need to work with the outdoor space like it's indoor space.
11:35I love it.
11:36Well, we've got a budget for motel improvements and I think we can allocate about $8,000 for decorating the sunroom and patio.
11:43But I don't think we should do this by ourselves.
11:45I don't think we can.
11:46No.
11:47We need help.
11:48We need.
11:49I'm Nick.
11:50I'm Jensen.
11:51We're Very Gay Paint.
11:52Whoa, well, well, well, hello.
11:56What is this?
11:57Yes, please bring it in.
11:58Very Gay Paint are the very talented painters whose work can be seen throughout the motel.
12:03These two are blowing up.
12:05They're in high demand, but they've agreed to squeeze us into their busy schedule.
12:10Currently, this is an unused area, but the dream is that David's going to turn that into a sunroom and this is going to become a beautiful outdoor-like dining area.
12:18Oh.
12:19And we hope we could do something really cool on this wall.
12:22Got it.
12:23And I'm assuming you guys spent the year painting?
12:25Yeah.
12:26Yeah.
12:27We've been up to a lot this year.
12:28Yeah.
12:29Have you gotten better?
12:30I would say purposefully worse.
12:31We got faster.
12:32Yeah.
12:33But worse.
12:34Yeah.
12:35Well, David, do you have an idea for what you think it should be over here?
12:37You know, right behind this is the landscape of Palm Springs, the mountains, the palm trees.
12:40If we can bring that to this wall, that would be lovely.
12:43Yeah, we can probably bring that.
12:44Yeah.
12:45Grab some rocks and mud and stuff.
12:46Yeah.
12:47Yeah, you know what we do.
12:48Well, no pressure.
12:49We have the one-year anniversary of the Trixie Motel happening.
12:53Soon?
12:54This week.
12:55It's this week?
12:56Oh, .
12:57Yeah.
12:58Oh, yeah.
12:59And did we mention that it's Palm Springs in the summer?
13:00It's going to be about 120 degrees.
13:02So what's the game plan?
13:03Four colors.
13:04The existing color would be the fifth.
13:06You know what I'm saying?
13:07Mmm.
13:08All right.
13:09I hate to do this.
13:10I have to go back to Hollywood.
13:11You're not helping me with the sun.
13:12Yeah.
13:13You know, I thought about it.
13:14Three of you are going to do this one thing.
13:15One of me is going to go to L.A. and finish a bunch of things, so.
13:18Jazz hands?
13:19Yeah.
13:20You know.
13:21Oh, the air conditioning's nice.
13:22Bye.
13:23Bye.
13:24I know what you're thinking, Dorothy, but David and I did agree to divide and conquer,
13:30so this queen has some work to do.
13:33Being a world-famous musician, I've been entrusted with turning the office into a music room.
13:38It's connected to the kitchen and foyer and leads out to the pool, so it's a communal space,
13:42but I want it to feel inviting, too.
13:45Oh, hello.
13:56That's how it works.
13:57I just start playing guitar and men start throwing themselves in.
14:00I'm trying to figure out what to do in this room.
14:03Okay.
14:04David and I decided we want to turn this into a music room.
14:07I kind of want, like, a guitar lounge.
14:09Mm-hmm.
14:10I've played guitar since I was 13.
14:12I've never had somewhere to keep my instruments, but because I shared this home with David,
14:17I don't want this to feel off-limits.
14:19What would a music room have?
14:22Music is very communal, and I want to be able to say,
14:24let's play a song and reach out and grab stuff right away.
14:27Okay.
14:28So a little bit of storage, somewhere to display instruments.
14:30I would love a little bar.
14:31Mm-hmm.
14:32Speakeasy, almost.
14:33Okay.
14:34If we're going lounge, we need some architecture.
14:37So if we take the lines that we already have from the windows and the doors
14:41and create some paneling around this room, but then leave the wallpaper inside
14:45so it looks like an upholstered panel.
14:47That will make it look like we did way more than we did.
14:50Yes.
14:51And then it's, like, super intentional and super custom.
14:53Right.
14:54Super custom, super rich, and super gaggy.
14:57We can have your bar here, sofa over there.
15:00So you have the opportunity to interact.
15:02There's bar stools there.
15:03And then we panel this out and then have bar shelves.
15:06You can easily pour a cocktail for somebody if you want.
15:09That is...
15:10Nice?
15:11Yes.
15:13Playing off the speakeasy idea, I was thinking it would be really cool to get a bunch of vintage speakeasy peepholes
15:21that we mix into this back wall with the paneling.
15:24There's a little peekaboo.
15:25And maybe you open it up and there's a photo of you guys.
15:27Okay.
15:28I have something to tell you, but I'm scared you're going to be mad.
15:30Okay.
15:31I love, like, um, secondhand shopping.
15:34And I saw a vintage vinyl bar that was green.
15:39Okay.
15:40And I was afraid someone was going to buy it, so I bought it.
15:42And now we have it.
15:44I hear vinyl bar, and I just think terrible 60s, 70s grandpa's basement.
15:50It's a little though.
15:52It's tufted vinyl with natural wood grain.
15:56Natural wood grain or formica wood grain?
15:58Formica.
15:59Formica, baby.
16:01I'll tell you what, maybe we can zhuzh it.
16:03Okay.
16:04The lady said it just needs a little soap and water, which I think...
16:07So it's dirty.
16:08Yeah.
16:09Right?
16:10The music room.
16:11We'll incorporate some green into this space because it's a color that I love.
16:15We're going to keep the existing wallpaper, but frame it out to look like textured panels
16:19with brass trim.
16:20My vintage bar find will take center stage, and we'll be putting on the ritz with mirrored
16:24shelves to hold our barware for fun cocktail nights with friends, but keep it intimate with
16:29low moody lighting and antique peepholes.
16:32This is a room where we'll speak easy, but play music loudly with my instruments on display
16:36and at the ready.
16:38How much is this all going to cost though?
16:41I think that we can do this entire room for $10,000.
16:46Okay.
16:47All right.
16:48I don't even really drive, but Kati's going to drive our truck and we're going to get
16:51it.
16:52Kati seems a little chaotic.
16:53You trust her to drive your truck to go get your bar?
16:57Yeah.
16:58Oh, Trixie, I'm ready to move in.
17:10Kati and I are performing a show in drag later, but we need to pick up the vintage bar I found
17:14online.
17:15So we're stepping out fancy.
17:18Okay.
17:19Hi.
17:20Hi.
17:21Just let yourself right in, huh?
17:22So this is your house?
17:23Well, this is the outside of my house.
17:25Oh, so there's an inside?
17:27I'm coming to Trixie's house to drive her to pick up this bar she ordered online.
17:33What's over here?
17:34That's where we keep the trash.
17:36Okay.
17:37So yeah, go on in.
17:38Which is a little bit scary because I have never driven a truck before, though I do have
17:41a driver's license.
17:42Okay.
17:43So this is the steering wheel.
17:44Uh-huh.
17:45The pedal on the right is the one that makes me go, right?
17:48And I'm not really good at heavy lifting, so it's really inconvenient for me.
17:53Feels a little Thelma Louise.
17:54I mean-
17:55I know.
17:56I'm looking for a cliff that we can jump on.
17:57Oh!
17:58It's all good.
17:59It's all good.
18:00The police.
18:01God, the police.
18:02You're in drag.
18:03You have a wig on.
18:04You have lashes on.
18:05Peripherals.
18:06Just based on the way you do your makeup, I wouldn't say that I would expect you to
18:08have a high visibility.
18:10Okay.
18:11Sorry.
18:12All right.
18:13I think we're getting there.
18:15Oh!
18:16I think I see it.
18:17Is that it?
18:18There it is.
18:19Oh my God, we're not being catfish.
18:20No catfish.
18:21No catfish.
18:22This guy is actually out of town, so we just have to pick it up and grab it.
18:25It's going to feel like stealing, but we did pay.
18:27Great.
18:28Let's get this.
18:29Oh, .
18:30It's hot.
18:32It's hot.
18:33Oh, it's hot.
18:34It's hot.
18:35It is smoking hot.
18:36It's heavy.
18:37Okay.
18:38So we're just going to roll it.
18:39Okay.
18:40It's pretty though.
18:41It looks like it looked on camera.
18:42What did we do?
18:43Does David even know that you bought this damn thing?
18:45What David doesn't know will hurt me probably, but it's a bar.
18:49It's David.
18:50He'll love it.
18:51Okay.
18:52Well, one, two, three.
18:53Oh!
18:54You're kidding.
18:55You're kidding.
18:56Wait, wait, wait, wait.
18:57This is so heavy.
18:58Oh!
18:59Oh!
19:04Okay, wait.
19:05You're kidding.
19:06You're kidding.
19:07Oh!
19:08Oh!
19:09And we got it.
19:10Oh!
19:11She's...
19:12Oh, we lost a leg.
19:13Oh!
19:14Don't you worry.
19:15I know a guy who would put that right back in there.
19:17Don't worry about it.
19:18This is $200.
19:19Yeah, no kidding.
19:20Overpaid for it.
19:21It's too late now.
19:23There's no use crying over spilled milk, and there's no use crying over money spent in
19:26a bar.
19:27Let's get the hell out of here.
19:28Well, we came.
19:29We conquered.
19:30I probably pulled something, but thank you for helping me.
19:32My pleasure.
19:33I will send you the bill when I get that hernia fixed.
19:45Hello.
19:46You're not doing anything important, aren't you?
19:48Never once in my life have I.
19:49Hang in.
19:50In addition to the daily maintenance of running the motel, there's a lot of work going
19:54into the upcoming celebrations.
19:56Very Gay Pain are working on the new mural for the back patio, and I've got big plans
20:00for our little sunburn.
20:01It's right off the bar.
20:02This is like a hangout.
20:03You're having a drink.
20:04Exactly.
20:05It's going to be like more vibey in here.
20:07More my vibe.
20:08Gold.
20:09Elegant.
20:10Luxurious.
20:11Expensive.
20:12Expensive.
20:13How are you imagining this will incorporate into the events of the party?
20:15You know, the lounge isn't huge, and we're having almost a hundred guests here.
20:20So the more places we have for them to enjoy the property, that's the dream.
20:23And so you're looking to fill this with the furniture?
20:25Mm-hmm.
20:26So wait, you need us just...
20:27You need these.
20:28I saw the gunshot.
20:29Yeah.
20:30Perfect.
20:31Perfect.
20:32We're not typically lifting large pieces of furniture.
20:35The only things we really lift are...
20:36Spirits.
20:37Spirits.
20:38Um, we raise the roof.
20:40I'll say that much.
20:41Anything you can grab, you can take home with you.
20:43Oh.
20:44Supermarket Sweep.
20:45All right.
20:46Okay, here we go.
20:47Cool.
20:48Careful.
20:49Careful.
20:50Of course.
20:51Careful.
20:52Oh!
20:53Oh my God.
20:54Take your turn.
20:55Ugh!
20:56This room is coming together even better than I imagined.
20:59I can't wait for our guests to see it.
21:01Everybody knows you can't have a party without a bar.
21:08So I'm hoping Dan can help give my vintage find a little bit of a lift.
21:14Well, here we are folks.
21:16This is the first time I'm seeing this.
21:17Before you say anything, I know that it was better in pictures.
21:20Not as sticky in pictures.
21:21Yeah, it's like sticky.
21:22Do you feel that?
21:23Yeah.
21:24I love this piece, but I understand that it's not exactly aligned with our design plan.
21:29So I appreciate you helping me convert it.
21:31Yeah.
21:32Girl's a hot mess.
21:34Just like Katya.
21:36Hello, darling.
21:38Oh, there we go.
21:39Hi, Dan.
21:40Hey, Dan.
21:41Oh, Dan.
21:42The pleasure's all mine.
21:43Hi, bar friend.
21:44Trixie called me over today to work on the bar that we slaved in the heat in drag to pick up.
21:49It feels like adding insult to injury because I thought my task was done and it's not.
21:53So, but here we are.
21:54Okay.
21:55Are we doing decoupage?
21:56I have so many magazines in my trunk.
21:58What kind of magazines?
22:00Elle Cosmopolitan.
22:01Teen Vogue.
22:02Men's Vogue.
22:03Italian Vogue.
22:04Better Homes and Gardens.
22:05I got even better homes and gardens.
22:06I got best gardens in the world.
22:07That's a great idea, but not very good.
22:09Oh.
22:10So the plan is to put this.
22:12Slab of ash to put on top.
22:14Slab of ash.
22:15That looks so rich.
22:17We're decoupaging this.
22:19No, we're not decoupaging.
22:21You guys are going to stain the bar top.
22:23Not decoupage.
22:24I love staining.
22:25You do?
22:26Yeah.
22:27Before we get to that, we need to take the casters off so it doesn't roll around.
22:31Okay.
22:32Ready?
22:33One, two, three.
22:34Oh!
22:35Nope.
22:36You can set it down.
22:37Did you just break it?
22:38I broke it.
22:40You guys got it all the way here and now you break it?
22:44I didn't break it.
22:45He broke it.
22:46He did break it.
22:47Can we just like glue it back on?
22:48What if we take the entire base off?
22:51Put the furniture legs on the bottom of this.
22:53Put our top on and pretend like you never broke it.
22:55At the Trixie Motel and the Yeehaw Cowgirl Suite, we have a tufted retro bar.
23:00And the bottom of the bar does just meet the floor and it looks great.
23:03We can't just have this sitting on the ground because then it's going to be table height.
23:07And it's supposed to be a bar.
23:08It's a bar.
23:09Bars are 42 inches high.
23:10I know about the bar.
23:11Okay.
23:12I've been to the bar.
23:13A bar you're supposed to be able to come up seductively and lean.
23:15Yeah, yeah, yeah.
23:16Hey baby.
23:17Yeah.
23:18Nobody's serving that like, hey.
23:19No.
23:20You know?
23:21No.
23:22So the dirty old queen I invited to the party is a problem.
23:24Now she's nine inches too short and wearing a bad top.
23:27Hopefully adding a little bronzer will help.
23:36Oh, it looks pretty.
23:38It looks better in makeup just like I do.
23:39Cool.
23:40All right.
23:41So we need this to dry.
23:42We'll put on a couple more stains so it gets really rich.
23:45And then we have to figure out the legs.
23:46We have to figure out the legs because right now I'm loving how big and fancy this feels
23:50if I was five foot two.
23:52Yeah.
23:53We're expert renovators now so we know that nothing ever goes as smoothly or as quickly
24:00as you want it to.
24:01The hand pressed artisanal tiles we chose for the kitchen are gorgeous but the process
24:06of installing them is a little slow because they're finicky and sized irregularly and the
24:11pattern is so intricate but that's what's going to make them special.
24:14David and I have been living in our 250 square foot ADU for the past two weeks and it's getting
24:21a little tight.
24:22I will say I love this man.
24:26I love living this close to him.
24:29But if we don't move into this house in about five seconds.
24:31It's over.
24:32It's on site.
24:33Yeah.
24:34Okay.
24:35However, walking in here, I gotta tell you, this towel works me out.
24:48It does.
24:49This is just the basic thing.
24:51As soon as they start laying this pattern in here, we get the black, we get the white,
24:54we get high contrast.
24:55It is just gorgeous.
24:56Yeah.
24:57I'm really excited.
24:58I'm not excited about the fact that we've got so much work to do.
25:02Besides finishing the floors, we still have to paint all of the base cabinets and the
25:06wainscote a deeper pink.
25:08Then we have to paint the appliances.
25:10We have to paint the upper cabinets.
25:14And a decorative light in the breakfast and the laundry area.
25:17No big deal.
25:18No.
25:19I mean, still doesn't look like a pink kitchen yet, but this floor now it's like actually
25:22happening.
25:23Yeah.
25:24Starting from the ground up.
25:25Yes.
25:26When I was like nine, my grandparents lived in an A-frame.
25:27I remember when I was at school one day, my grandma and grandpa painted the A-frame pink
25:31and they didn't tell me.
25:32And I walked in after school and started crying.
25:35I love pink and like, I will never leave this room.
25:38If it all is pink in here, I'll never leave.
25:40I don't want to put the pressure on, but we've got so much work to do.
25:43I know you're tired of the ADU and I hate to put you back into it, but I've got my hands
25:47full.
25:48You have to get out of this kitchen so we can get back to work.
25:57You know, I really can't imagine our life without this truck now.
26:00I always wanted a big like bad boy truck, but I mean pink is sort of like, it's the best
26:04of both worlds.
26:05Well, you don't get any gayer than a big pink truck.
26:08Yeah.
26:09David and I are out doing some lady business for our party at the motel, which is in two
26:15days.
26:16And for the party we'll be throwing at our soon to be fully renovated Hollywood home.
26:19But here's what I'm thinking.
26:20We love to entertain and we plan to host many fabulous dinner parties in our new dining
26:25room.
26:26So I want to do something that's a little self-indulgent, but I think David will love it.
26:30Now, this is a little crazy, but do you remember my friend Kim who painted the portrait of
26:35me above the fireplace at the Trixie Motel?
26:37Yes, of course.
26:38I love that painting.
26:39Me too.
26:40What do you think about a portrait of us together?
26:43Wow.
26:44I mean, I love that idea.
26:45I've never had anyone paint anything of me.
26:48That would be, I think, really cool.
26:51Stick with me, kid.
26:52People love to paint me.
26:53Will you call her and get the process going?
26:56Of course.
26:57So I'm just going to DM her.
26:58Mmm.
26:59Okay.
27:00I said, would you do a portrait of David and I for our new dining room?
27:03I'm just wondering how much.
27:05Okay.
27:06She said, Fab, can you measure the space for me?
27:09Size will determine the budget.
27:10Love that.
27:11Photo shoot.
27:12Love that.
27:13I think having a portrait painted is kind of romantic.
27:15I mean, it's like an investment for your future.
27:18We're not getting any hotter.
27:20So like, we might as well get the picture done now.
27:22Because speak for yourself.
27:24It's all happening here in Hollywood.
27:30The trim is going up in the music room, adding a little dimension and drama to the walls.
27:36And she's going to get a nice coat of green paint later.
27:39And outside, the silver bar is getting painted with a luscious green backdrop to help it blend perfectly with all the plants and foliage in the backyard.
27:51And I need to check in with Dan and Orr on the status of the kitchen of our dreams.
27:55Hello.
27:56Which at the moment looks a long way from being top to bottom pink.
28:00As the person who wants the kitchen done, I'm like...
28:02Yeah.
28:03This is stressful.
28:04You know, but...
28:05No, there's still a lot of insanity.
28:07But compared to everywhere else in the house, this is the place where we're actually kind of leaving no stone unturned.
28:12We're doing the most in here.
28:13Yes.
28:14Everything is changing.
28:15Yep.
28:16Whereas the other rooms, because we're keeping bits and pieces, it's easy to see there's progress.
28:20With stuff like this, it looks crazy forever.
28:22And then suddenly it's like almost done.
28:24We do have to get the new sink in.
28:26So we've got to get this one out.
28:27All right.
28:28The kitchen sink has a crack in it, so it needs to be replaced.
28:31I'll get the curtain.
28:32Well, thanks.
28:33Kind of an equally important job.
28:34And we love the look of it, so we're basically replacing it with a very similar farmhouse sink.
28:39This has got to be 100 pounds.
28:41My first job was at a chicken restaurant, and the cubes of lard were 100 pounds, so I very much remember how much those weigh.
28:48Ooh, Shania Dwayne.
28:51Okay.
28:52It doesn't fit exactly, but that's okay, right?
28:55Yeah.
28:56We knew that this wasn't going to be perfect, but we're here to template it.
28:59Basically just draw out exactly how much we need to cut.
29:02Oh.
29:03Just kind of place it, sketch around it, and that's how you know it's going to be beautiful.
29:07Wow.
29:08I love how big it is.
29:09I mean, I could bathe in there.
29:11As part of my job to tackle the backyard, I've come up with an idea that's a little over the top.
29:17Hey, hey, over the top is usually my territory.
29:20True, but every story needs a good plot twist, so I've invited the very talented artist James Mobley to come out and help me present my vision.
29:27James has done work all over the U.S. for some very famous people, including a gay couple who are almost as experienced at renovating as we are.
29:36I had this crazy idea for a mural on the whole back wall.
29:39Okay.
29:40Because we do see ourselves spending a lot of time back here entertaining a lot, and there's just all of this, like, lush foliage, the palm trees, all of these plants, and then there's just this blank wall.
29:50And I thought it would be really cool to be, like, lost in the Hollywood jungle and continue this along the wall so when you're out here you feel like you're immersed in nature.
30:00Great, great idea.
30:01Yeah.
30:02This house is very business in the front, party in the back, right?
30:05The front yard is kind of manicured and provincial and, oh, welcome.
30:09And the backyard is a party zone, and I think we should lean into that.
30:12Did you just compare our house to a mullet?
30:15Yes, I did.
30:16What about incorporating some very surreal, whimsical, maybe, like, pink animals throughout the mural?
30:22Like birds and...
30:23Well, Trixie loves birds, favorite animal.
30:26Okay.
30:27I am more of, like, a lions, tigers, bears...
30:31Fierce.
30:33I love a tiger moment.
30:34The pink birds can represent you, and to represent me there could be a pink tiger.
30:39I love a pink tiger.
30:40I can't...
30:41Okay.
30:42Okay, I know David is in charge, and I know that James is talented, but this backyard is taking a big risk.
30:49We're talking about painting the entire back of our home with an animal mural, and if it doesn't turn out, what are we gonna do?
30:55Repaint the whole exterior of our house?
30:58Yeah.
30:59Okay.
31:02And to represent me there could be a pink tiger.
31:04I love a pink tiger.
31:06I can't...
31:07Okay.
31:08If there's a way we can still keep it kind of elevated and gay, I just, you know, I don't want it to feel like a photo op at the zoo.
31:15Like a rainforest-themed restaurant.
31:18A certain chain of them.
31:20Like the back lot on Jumanji.
31:25If we add, like, jewelry to it?
31:26I have this idea, like, a metallic mosaic or, like, something that can be adhered to the wall that kind of, like, catches the light.
31:32Yeah, we love that.
31:33We're redoing so much, and we are on a budget as well as a time budget.
31:37And I know that paint is kind of a fast, effective way to transform a space.
31:42Absolutely.
31:43I think it's gonna be great.
31:44Okay.
31:45You know, we're dividing and conquering here.
31:46This is y'all's baby.
31:48I hope it turns out great.
31:49The stress of all of it.
31:50I mean, what if our hair starts falling out?
31:52Exactly.
31:59Move over, Martha Stewart.
32:01There's a new DIY queen in town.
32:03David needs my help adding a little sparkle to his balls.
32:07A pink disco ball.
32:08It's part of David's plan for the backyard.
32:10And we need to save a little money, so we're making it ourselves.
32:13I can't wait to see how this turns out.
32:17And Dan wants my help with personalizing the peepholes that we're adding to the music room,
32:21to help give that speakeasy vibe that we're going for.
32:25Fill it onto the wall and have a fun photo on the inside.
32:28DIY on fire today.
32:30Nice.
32:35We're doing everything we can to make sure we stay on track.
32:38Uh, just like my bris, I'm pulling out all the stops and helping Dan build the table for the silver bar.
32:44That was easy.
32:45And this mural is going to be stunning.
32:48You know, David, it's just about time for us to raise the curtain and show each other how well we performed under the pressure of dividing and conquering.
32:56I agree.
32:57Are you going to have everything done in time?
32:59David, I'm the queen of the castle.
33:01I can't wait to show David what Dan and I dreamed up in the music room.
33:09I'll admit that I'm a little bit nervous.
33:11I have a little bit of stage fright, but I just hope he loves it.
33:14Cue the music.
33:19Ladies and gentlemen, the music room.
33:21Ooh, wow.
33:23Whoa!
33:24This is amazing.
33:26I know.
33:27Our music friends and our non-music friends alike are going to be absolutely green with envy.
33:32This is definitely one of the most masculine rooms in the house.
33:35I love this light fixture.
33:36It looks like a disco ball.
33:37This disco ball is going to help me get the vibe going.
33:40Well, while you DJ, I can drink because now we have a little bar set up.
33:43I know.
33:44Can you believe this?
33:45Look it.
33:46Full bar back here for you and your little hooligan friends to get black out.
33:48I love a full bar.
33:49What are these?
33:50Oh, these are actual little peep holes.
33:53And inside them, it has little moments from our life.
33:55Look, this is the picture I saw of you on Tinder seven years ago when I was like, I want him.
34:00Here's you and I in Paris.
34:02Aww.
34:03Love.
34:04And this room, what I like about it is, it's peaceful and tranquil for music and vibing.
34:08Yeah.
34:09But it's not like an off-limits music room, and you can use it as a bar for you and your friends.
34:13Perfect.
34:14I found this bar online, and I'll spare you the details, but let's just say it needed a little bit of cleaning,
34:19a little bit of elbow grease, but it turned out great.
34:22You know, we were dividing and conquering here, and so you had to kind of trust me to pull this off.
34:26Well, I love it.
34:28Okay, great.
34:30Would you like to see what I've done outside?
34:32Absolutely, I would.
34:33Let's do it.
34:35And welcome to our beautiful backyard.
34:38Wow.
34:40Look at it.
34:42Look at the disco ball.
34:43It looks perfect.
34:44I know.
34:45So cool.
34:46And...
34:47Look at it!
34:48Oh my God, James did such a good job.
34:50Yeah, and we have the pink birds to represent you, and we have the pink tiger to represent me.
34:54Yeah, this is the cheaper, cleaner version of having real wild birds in your backyard.
34:58It's very special, it's very unique, and it's very personal, so I love it.
35:01I love it, too.
35:02I guess this is the moment where I sit here in a beautiful gown, and I tell you to your face in front of millions of viewers that you were right about the mural.
35:11Go on.
35:12You were right.
35:13I don't think I heard you.
35:14You were right.
35:15David Silver was right.
35:18Love this sitting area.
35:19I mean, we could not have a beautiful backyard like this without some kind of dignified little...
35:28Look at this little fire pit.
35:29Like, come on.
35:30Do you love it?
35:31I love it.
35:32A glam clean-up job and new cushions totally transformed this old fire pit area.
35:37And ta-da!
35:39Welcome to the silver bar.
35:41Wow!
35:42This turned out amazing.
35:44We have some tiles that look kind of like an animal print.
35:48Wow.
35:49And here's something I didn't tell you.
35:51I actually hopped on the tools with Dan and helped him build the table for the bar.
35:55I don't believe it.
35:56I did.
35:57You built this?
35:58It's pretty solid.
35:59Yeah.
36:00A little lumberjack in another life.
36:01I guess I shouldn't act so surprised.
36:03I mean, you're very good with wood.
36:06And a hammer.
36:07I think it's beautiful.
36:08And the other beautiful thing is, according to Dan, we are on schedule to finish this entire renovation in time to celebrate the housewarming and my birthday in two weeks.
36:17That is very good news.
36:18And here's the tea on the spending.
36:20We budgeted $30,000 for the backyard and the music room.
36:24We saved some money by going DIY on the outdoor dining area and making the disco ball ourselves.
36:29But in the end, that stunning backyard mural took us a little over the line.
36:34All told, we've spent $65,000, leaving us $85,000 to finish the entire main floor.
36:40Oh, great.
36:41$85,000 to finish a living room, a dining room, a butler's pantry, a kitchen, in just two weeks.
36:49I'm not worried at all.
36:51Well, now's not the time to worry.
36:53We need to get you out of drag and off to the sweltering desert heat of Palm Springs for our one-year anniversary party for the motel.
37:00Okay, move that bus, people.
37:02Palm Springs waits for no one.
37:05Welcome to the Trixie Motel sunroom.
37:07Holy crap.
37:08This is crazy.
37:13The Trixie Motel one-year anniversary party is happening today.
37:16David's been taking care of getting the motel ready, including working on the new sunroom and patio, and I cannot wait to see what he's done.
37:24Come on.
37:25You got it.
37:26Welcome to the Trixie Motel sunroom.
37:29Holy crap.
37:30This is crazy.
37:32I can't even believe this is the same room.
37:34I know.
37:35Isn't it beautiful?
37:36I love it.
37:37Look at this.
37:38You could come in here and sit.
37:39Like, a guest can come in here and just have drinks and hang out.
37:41Yeah.
37:42You did all this yourself?
37:43Yeah.
37:44I don't believe David was in there.
37:45Like, I don't believe it.
37:47Because this seems like a lot of manual labor.
37:49Well, a few handsome gay painters might have pitched in.
37:53It's amazing.
37:54I love it.
37:55I mean, you designed it, obviously.
37:57Well, the only thing better than silver is gold, so...
38:01I would say that there's nothing better than silver.
38:03Aw.
38:04I'm so proud of you.
38:05I love you.
38:06I love you, too.
38:07This looks so good, honestly.
38:08You love it.
38:09This is amazing.
38:10Can my baby do something or what?
38:12Oh, my gosh.
38:13Hey.
38:14Hello.
38:15Hello.
38:16Hi.
38:17Hi.
38:18It looks so good.
38:20It looks so amazing.
38:21God, I love it.
38:22I love you.
38:23Oh, I love you, too.
38:24Thank you, guys.
38:25Of course.
38:26Thank you for having us.
38:27Thanks for letting us leave another work here.
38:28Look at this.
38:29It's so great.
38:30There's a whole dusky, sexy, deserty, dinnary, romantic vibe now.
38:35It's beautiful.
38:36It's a great space for events, birthday dinners, wedding rehearsal dinners, very gay dinners.
38:42Yes.
38:43I'm imagining dinners where women throw wine on each other.
38:45Yeah.
38:46Yes.
38:47Real housewife dinners.
38:48Yes.
38:49I will say, this table is beautiful, but unless we have cocktails in hand, are we really serving
38:52dinner?
38:53I have four of our signature drinks coming.
38:55Oh!
38:56Oh!
38:57Delicious.
38:58Yes.
38:59And a generous pour.
39:01Guys, cheers to the sunroom and the back patio.
39:04Thank you for painting.
39:05To you three gentlemen for pulling this off.
39:06You guys are amazing.
39:07Thank you so much.
39:09Well, we have to go get ready for the party, and we can't drink this early.
39:11Here you go.
39:12No, I'll take that.
39:13Oh.
39:14Oh, great.
39:15I see.
39:16Okay.
39:17All right.
39:18Good luck, guys.
39:29I can't believe we have one full year as moteliers under our belts.
39:34Or under your belt, David, and under my many layers of padding.
39:37Oh!
39:38Wow!
39:39I have such a sense of pride for this incredible business that David and I built together.
39:44And so much love and appreciation for everyone who supported our vision along the way.
39:49Girl, cheers.
39:50It's everything here.
39:52Many of those people are here tonight to help us celebrate along with some of our fiercest friends.
39:57Yay!
39:58Hello, hello.
39:59Hello.
40:00Thank you, everybody, for coming to the one-year anniversary of the Trixie Motel in Palm Springs, California.

40:08Woo!
40:09Woo!
40:10Three months into dating, we went on our first little, like, boyfriend trip.
40:13We came to Palm Springs, and we rented a little place here.
40:16And we started thinking about, wouldn't it be funny if we had a rental called the Trixie Motel?
40:19Because, ha, ha, ha, ha, it's so funny, right?
40:22Now it's, like, the joke we took too far, and we can't go backwards.
40:26But I could have never done this without David.
40:30Never, never.
40:33Doing this together was, like, the best thing that's ever happened to me.
40:38You know, like, I love our house, and we had to have a little piece of the motel in our house,
40:45so I have something to surprise you with.
40:51Okay.
40:52So this is a 3D portrait of the Trixie Motel.
40:55I thought we could put it in our house and just remember that, you know,
41:00this was our house first, kind of, you know.
41:03So that's for you.
41:04I love you so much.
41:11And now, ladies and gentlemen, David Silver.
41:14I did this because I love Palm Springs, but most importantly, because I love you.
41:23You are the hardest working, most talented person I know, so...
41:27I love you.
41:28And thank you all so much for sharing this with us.
41:31I love you, too.
41:36I have the mayor, Jeffrey Bernstein, here with a little surprise for you.
41:40Yes.

42:46Now we have to party but not too hard
42:47because we still have to go finish our house.
42:49All right, you go back to LA and just whenever you're done.
42:52I'm gonna say that we should go back to LA together
42:54because we were only able to pull this off together.
42:56Forward together.
42:58Together.
43:00I love you.
