00:00:00hello and welcome to the wrestle talk podcast here every tuesday and friday i'm ollie davis
00:00:05i'm joined by luke owen dad and you can subscribe to us wherever you get your podcasts from it could
00:00:11be on youtube it could be on apple podcasts it could be on spotify but a different new place
00:00:17this week it's it's what we could have had because nine raf has commented in after i wore my brand
00:00:24new white t-shirt on the raw podcast nice white as well with how the podcast started pointing out
00:00:29the white shirt i was slightly worried ollie would be busted open by the end of it only for his blood
00:00:35to reveal a qr code to the next podcast episode missed opportunity fellas you know that is a good
00:00:43idea it's a good idea but health and safety standards and practices you know they just
00:00:48knock on the door and they stop you from doing these sorts of things it was actually the uh the
00:00:52st louis uh commission just wouldn't let us do it yeah they're ruining aew long-term storyline payoffs
00:00:59and also us getting the podcast to new people um but we could have just used the blood capsule
00:01:06we were yeah we could have done but when we did that in testing it didn't quite make the qr code
00:01:11right no it kept on taking people to fightful yeah exactly and that's right i think we're
00:01:17stopping people avoid yeah yeah avoid people doing that we we don't go to fightful we'll tell you what
00:01:22fightful a say you do not need to go anywhere near sean ross sap and his level of quality content
00:01:29of course go over to sean ross sap luke was over there recently um please of course also hit the
00:01:35thumbs up button if you're watching on youtube and leave your comments if you are able on the big
00:01:40discussion point for this episode we will be getting into aew dynamite shortly all the wrestle dream
00:01:44fallout but our talking point for today is is jayuso really a main eventer is jayuso fatigue real
00:01:55this is uh sort of a phenomenon of 2025 really because everyone was kind of behind main event jayuso
00:02:04because main event jayuso up until april 2025 and arguably throughout his world heavyweight title reign
00:02:12was really upper mid card jayuso you used to jokingly call him mid card jayuso because he's got
00:02:19the he's had the main events label on him now since 2020 but you were like he's really mid card jayuso
00:02:26well as soon as he was they started calling the main event jayuso and and i get why they did it he's
00:02:32been a tag team guy for 10 years he's literally got another one of him who is a mid card you need to
00:02:38separate them they're trying to push a new guy albeit an old guy which you know that's our current
00:02:44soapbox thing we're on so apologies if we bring up people's age again but um when i hear main event
00:02:51like a wrestler calling themselves main event this i feel like it's a heel gimmick so i remember when
00:02:58he was tag champions with cody roads and this was during a period of time when roman was champion
00:03:04so there weren't like a lot of regular title defenses and for the wd title at the very least
00:03:10and jayuso and cody roads they're basically just finding ways to fill time until cody roads won the
00:03:15title of wrestlemania at 40 and and until jay could face jimmy yeah who's on the other brand exactly
00:03:20and wrestlemania's in philadelphia city of brotherly love it makes so much sense what could go wrong
00:03:25so it was basically just cody roads and jayuso and sammy zane and kevin owens having matches with
00:03:30the judgment day and various combinations of the judgment day but cody and jay were the tag team
00:03:34champions and they opened a pay-per-view i can't remember which one it was now but they opened the
00:03:39pay-per-view and tagged out events probably against the judgment day and a friend of mine who hadn't
00:03:43watched wrestling in ages text me because he was like i'm just going to check this out he text me and
00:03:49he said there's a guy on here whose theme song says i'm on my own and he's called main event jayuso
00:03:55he's a tag team champion and he's in the opener yes there's a bit of a cognitive dissonance thing
00:04:01i always said i hear main event jayuso like me calling myself big dick ollie davis
00:04:07the the levels of com inherent compensation here are too large for me to ignore which is why i always
00:04:15thought it was a heel thing yeah you know like ravishing rick rude of course he's ravishing but
00:04:22he's saying that to get heat from the the crowd and all the ugly guys yeah and it worked so this
00:04:28this has sort of come back into conversation uh it came very much into conversation at the start of
00:04:35this year because he went from saying he was main event jayuso to us all realizing huh wwe are actually
00:04:43pushing him at a main event level but now we have to confront how we practically feel about that
00:04:50yeah and when we say pushing him to a main event level he had been in main events like this has
00:04:55been the the culmination of a five-year project of main event jayuso because he was main eventing
00:05:00pay-per-views with with roman during the pandemic like when they were doing that hell in a cell match
00:05:04stuff i think that might have been the main event of the pay-per-view but he main evented summerslam
00:05:08in tribal combats with roman reigns a handful of years later this is 2023 this has been the
00:05:13culmination of a five-year plan to make jayuso feel like a main event star and he has you know been
00:05:19in main event and been pushed as a main event topped guy on monday night raw what we're kind
00:05:24of talking about here though is literally being the top guy of we are going to he's winning the
00:05:28royal rumble and he's going to win the world title at wrestlemania albeit in the opener against gunther
00:05:35but he's still going to be the top guy on raw with the top title on that brand that is pushing someone
00:05:42to a main event above just being in a main event and being given a moniker of main events so we do have
00:05:48a timeline and we will go through chronologically but this week is when jayuso won the battle royal
00:05:55in the main event of raw which means he will face cm punk at saturday night's main event next saturday
00:06:01to decide who will become the new world heavyweight champion after seth rollins had to vacate it due to
00:06:09a definitely shoot definitely real it's real injury yes and the the reason why we're talking about this
00:06:16because that video that was posted to youtube has got a massive amount of thumbs down on it which is
00:06:21like it feels like it's the third time this has happened to jayuso winning a match in 2025 i don't
00:06:29know what the the thumbs up thumbs down ratio is for this you said you looked at it before we went live
00:06:33and you were like i'm not going to tell you what it is we'll reveal it on air i want it to be a reveal
00:06:38because there's a wonderful bit of escalation throughout this story uh of course what is jayuso
00:06:44fatigue and oh i don't like jayuso and what is no i wanted someone else that's it because you know
00:06:50we all thought brom breaker was going to get this spot he had all the momentum going in he was a new
00:06:55exciting fresh guy but wwe didn't go in that direction anyway let's take you back to 2010
00:07:02jayuso nexus jay and jimmy are tag team guys jay and john yeah or jimmy and john or a couple of
00:07:13weeks or something because there was the third uso uh so this was this was you know for 10 years
00:07:19from the ages of 25 that's when they debut in 2010 all the way through to 2020 that whole decade
00:07:26they are a tag team and a good one well for six of those years they are a generic tag team yeah with
00:07:33face paint and no character ooze oh when you came out it made your brain switch off because it's like
00:07:40oh it's a pointless tag match for a division wwe don't care about yeah you're gonna be facing off
00:07:46against the core or something but then new day got really hot and new day needed some antagonists
00:07:53and it just encouraged wwe to treat the usos seriously and over a two-year period in the
00:08:00middle of the 2010s jimmy and jay just like revealed to all of us they are excellent promos
00:08:07when they're together maybe not apart as we would find out with jay gets gets breathless a lot
00:08:12yeeting is exhausting and some of the best tag matches of that decade yeah they were awesome
00:08:20that was when they did the brand split in 2016 and the usos then just stopped being the usos and
00:08:27became the usos they just dropped all of the face paint gimmick they came out they got the the day one
00:08:33ish music and everything remember they used to do their promos we were like lockdown and then there
00:08:38was a lockdown graphic that came over them they had a terrific cadence between them of sort of
00:08:43finishing each other's sentences taking over parts it was like the beastly boys it was yeah it was
00:08:47it was excellent and kevin dunn saw this and thought it needs a little bit more what this
00:08:54needs is graphics what it needs is ar graphics that we're gonna press uh in the visual equivalent of
00:09:00one of those shock jock radio hosts but it they their feud with the new day and the various matches
00:09:07they had with new day were really great like they had that hell in a cell match that was awesome there
00:09:12was that uh was it the summer slam like pre-show match that they had that was like it was almost
00:09:17better than anything that was on the summer slam show itself yeah it's awesome we we all suddenly
00:09:21had to re-evaluate these two wrestlers who we were like okay they're the usos they're absolutely fine
00:09:28i don't care about them too oh actually they're they're some of the best wrestlers in the company
00:09:32as an act one of the best performers so you know like sheamus we no one was into sheamus for a long
00:09:40time and then all of a sudden he revealed his true banger self what it sounds like you're advocating for
00:09:45here is actually what triple h is doing with his main roster talent because what you're saying there
00:09:50is that they came onto the roster and then six to seven years later we started to get into them
00:09:54so maybe what his plan with bron breaker is you've got to give it another five years and then you might
00:10:00start to be into his work is that what i'm advocating for am i not advocating for for the debuting with a
00:10:06more over and uh sort of true to your own self character doesn't sound like what you said there
00:10:12so that's the 2010s that's 10 years and then at the age of 35 and this is so difficult if you are
00:10:20considered a tag team wrestler for that length of time that long because yeah you can be a tag team
00:10:25wrestler like edge and christian or the hardy boys or brett hart or brett hart for five years or
00:10:30sean michaels and marty genetti for five years and then sort of the expectation is then then the
00:10:37genetian happens the sean michaels reveals themselves it's jeff it's edge it's brett it's sure it was
00:10:44christian sure it was christian not edge but they reveal themselves as the top stars and then the other
00:10:50one kind of just actually sinks further down the card um bubba ray is the bully ray is the only
00:10:57person who's actually been able to do this in uh you know go over to patreon.com forward slash
00:11:02wrestle talk where we follow his trajectory from a career-long tag team guy in the dudley boys
00:11:08to team 3d to them becoming bully ray a bona fide single star main event it's like 15 years as being
00:11:16one half of the dudley boys to them being like oh no you are the guy to be
00:11:20our top heel here in tna so not without precedent but a gargantuan task this is very difficult in
00:11:27wrestling booking but they have one of the greatest storylines of all time to do it with him the
00:11:33bloodline yeah okay i'm gonna i don't want to sound like the negative nancy here but i do think that we
00:11:39need to re-evaluate this whole like bloodline for the greatest story in wwe history i think it is
00:11:44a tremendous storyline that lasted five years and had about 18 months worth of actually good story in
00:11:51there i disagree i i mean i mean i do i do agree with that but i still with that caveat i still think
00:11:59it's the greatest progressing story i've ever lived through i think it is it is certainly had a
00:12:04tremendous end it's final it's final year or so was just superb so august 2020 that's when roman
00:12:12returns he's now a heel the bloodline tribal chief thing starts in its early embryonic phases go and
00:12:18watch pete's excellent history of the bloodline video to catch up on all of that and jay is the
00:12:24first dissenter he is the first part of this storyline so they are clearly saying look roman's
00:12:30our top guy but we are now looking at jay he's not much younger than roman but he feels new because
00:12:36he's a new singles guy we're gonna elevate him too yeah i remember at the time in that hell nacelle
00:12:42match that they had it being like whoa we're gonna go with jay usso for the universal championship
00:12:48against roman reigns this feels like it's quite an escalation for the lad being like but it really
00:12:52did feel like this was the start of we are he is no longer just a tag team guy we want to create a
00:12:59new single star out of him and we that because it was the pandemic as well we got to have that new
00:13:04era of roman matches with acting and you would sort of like commentary would stop and you'd hear
00:13:10the chat amongst the two of them as they would talk to each other and monologue about what they're
00:13:16doing within matches and that helped jay go from roman's enemy at the start you know he was very
00:13:22against roman's new direction to them being beaten by roman and because of these sort of bloodline
00:13:27rules he now has to acknowledge him as his tribal chief and he went hook line and sinker okay i am
00:13:34you are the person i will do anything to defend you in this family and and then you sort of get a
00:13:40similar trajectory with the other great part of the bloodline which is sammy's aim because yeah
00:13:44there's a sammy roman thing sure but the actual heart of that story was sammy and jay yeah jay
00:13:50didn't trust him trust him jimmy did but sam but jay just did not want sammy around he's not really
00:13:56family but then when jay this is part of his character when he lets you in he that is it like
00:14:03i'm i'm committed to you right now so when sammy finally proves himself to jay and jay lets him in
00:14:08jay is the most in like he is the biggest defender of sammy just like he was for roman it's really
00:14:14really smart subtle character work and then you get like this is around like late 2022 now that war
00:14:22games match and early 2023 you get the trial of sammy zayn and all these great things and and jay's
00:14:28confidence in the tribal chief is wavering now uh this is going into wrestlemania 39 where roman
00:14:35beats cody when i okay it worked out well and jay and jimmy lost the tag titles the night previous
00:14:41to kevin and sammy and they'd been champions like like dual champions across both brands for like
00:14:46a year or so at that point so this now goes into the phase of all right we've been building jay as
00:14:53the guy in the faction who's going to turn on the leader and now we're going to pull the trigger
00:14:57and this is sort of where the i don't think this is a misstep because i it was amazing the misdirect
00:15:04you think jay's going to turn on roman at night of champions in may after that year's wrestlemania in
00:15:092023 but instead it's jimmy who turns face it was but then the follow-up to that didn't work
00:15:16yeah because then jimmy turns on jay at sammerslam and aligns himself back with roman yes and it's
00:15:22confusing it doesn't work it was the first major misstep i think in the bloodline story um yeah the
00:15:29first bit was like they weren't such a hot stroke of shows i would agree that you're right as well in
00:15:33terms of saying it's a misstep because a lot of the earlier stuff like the the sort of post-pandemic
00:15:38smackdown world where roman was a part-timer and stuff i don't think you say it's a misstep like
00:15:42you know the match with finn balor at extreme rules or wherever it was i don't think you can
00:15:46say that's a misstep in the bloodline storyline the match itself was just a misstep and it was
00:15:51just bad booking overall but in terms of like where people were so into this bloodline every single
00:15:55element was was working on all cylinders jay being turned on by jimmy and then jimmy going back
00:16:03to the bloodline just made no sense whatsoever and then they just had to split them apart
00:16:07and they just moved jay over to raw and i was talking about earlier to just kill time before
00:16:14jay and jimmy come back together at the royal rumble so they can have their match at wrestlemania
00:16:18and this is and we've been talking about this for months now a couple of podcasts recently we've
00:16:22covered what is triple h actually like as a booker and one of our big things is just his his approach
00:16:29to time we think he spends too long to do things and here i'm it's so difficult because
00:16:36summer slam august 2023 this is the moment to make jay uso a star and i think even at the time we
00:16:43were like but i mean jay uso's gotta win but i don't think having him as the only champion in the
00:16:51company yeah because this was before the world heavyweight title i think it's prior to that yeah
00:16:55but also i think actually that had been actually oh it might have been like that had been decided
00:16:59at night of champions i think oh yeah the night that jimmy turned face but it's so what it needed
00:17:05i think was less we think that jay's gonna win here because we all know that cody's gonna win at
00:17:10maybe the following year like once cody lost at 39 we're like okay so we went to the title at 40
00:17:14instead so that again was a more of like just sort of we just need to kill a bit of time before we can
00:17:19get back to to wrestlemania 40 so i never thought that jay was winning if i recall correctly i might be
00:17:24proven wrong someone go into the prediction and be like i said that jay was gonna win the title
00:17:27but i'm pretty sure my thought at the time was no cody's gonna win the title at mania so this is
00:17:32just jay needs to lose here yeah or roman will face the rock and they're keeping the belt yeah i
00:17:37definitely agree on that but just if you look at the pieces i think this was the peak moment to make
00:17:43jay a star or all of all of the momentum was behind him i i know it's it's very i don't know if
00:17:49it was possible in the tetris puzzle because you only had like all the belts were on roman
00:17:54could you have done a match just for the ula falla so roman keeps the belt but the the ula
00:18:00falla goes to jay i don't know if that works gimmicky but i think the question would have been
00:18:04like why isn't this for the titles and anything like that but you know the storyline had to be
00:18:08cody was going to win and roman had to be champion for four years or whatever it was five years
00:18:13you know a thousand plus odd days roman had to stay champion until main so i don't think putting
00:18:17the title on jay would have been the right idea i actually don't agree that this was the right time
00:18:21to do it either because and this is where i might be wrong on this one i don't know but when did yeet
00:18:27start when did yeet get over and that became a big part of jay's entrance because that really was the
00:18:34time when jay felt like he's the most over guy in the company well yeet starts in cody and jay's
00:18:41tag title reign i think because it's them in a post pay-per-view scrum maybe after they won the tag
00:18:49belts when they're a little bit tipsy and jay has just keeps on saying yeet after everything do you
00:18:54feel him sir and it's it's it's hilarious yeah and you know four months later i think yeet is part of
00:19:00his catchphrase but i according to uh ai it started in 2021 i mean he would yeet things people would
00:19:07i don't know how useful it is to separate jay uso the star persona from the chant and ham movement of yeet
00:19:18yeah okay uh we've been on our record a lot that we do not like yeet so someone here says like
00:19:24fast lane 2023 was in october over the next two years the yeet catchphrase really took over for
00:19:30jay uso yeah so two months after summer slam roughly you'd be having the the start of proper yeet chance
00:19:37yeah i mean but when you look at what i'm saying here is the storyline character momentum is behind
00:19:44jay going out of the hottest part of that era of the bloodline which is the jay turning on roman
00:19:50split that's the moment to me storyline driven reason yeah to make him a star not he's got a
00:19:57hand movement and catchphrase over but i think the catchphrase got him over more yes it did than the
00:20:02bloodline story did yeah but what if and again i'm not this needs a lot more fantasy booking work
00:20:08could jay have split off at this point away from roman and just been the inaugural world heavyweight
00:20:15champion if they're introducing that belt i mean it wouldn't have been the worst idea in the world
00:20:20but you wanted to put it on seth but then you then you can build to jay jay's the champion on one
00:20:25brand and roman's the champion on the other i can feel these two on a collision course but no then we go
00:20:31into the this this run which you've described which did get yeet over so there was some utility to it
00:20:37but it's from august to march the next year where we're like but we want to do jay and jimmy at mania
00:20:46there is no way we can move that forward yeah because it's in the city of brotherly love we have
00:20:51we want to do this at mania we do the turn at summer slam but now we just need to delay the
00:20:57inevitable until we can get to the royal rumble where we can have them face off in the rumble be number
00:21:01one and number two and jay uso had an absolutely filler next nine months yeah and then to pay it
00:21:07all off the worst match at wrestlemania 40 against his brother yeah it's not a good match really really
00:21:13quite a bad match i think i once described it as it is the match that people who hate the young bucks
00:21:19think that the young bucks have so if we're just tracking the graph of jay's rise as a single star
00:21:25i would have it you know from 2020 it's going increasingly up and the peak is august 20 2023
00:21:32literally main eventing summer slam and then it goes down well yeah capitalizing on momentum of yeet
00:21:40because when they you know he went to the royal rumble in 2025 this year wasn't it that felt like
00:21:46i think i even said the time is that yeet doesn't feel as over as it once did but then it got over again
00:21:51but then you and i were at that raw taping and i was expecting it to be like madness for yeet and it
00:21:57kind of wasn't and that was like the first sort of time to me i was like oh i don't think this is over
00:22:01as i thought it was yeah wwe certainly presented as very over and it is it is you can't deny that
00:22:08it's the closing shot of the new sting people love it doing it twice yeah i don't um so then you
00:22:15have like that's april 2024 it's wrestlemania 40 they have that bad match and the plans they have
00:22:22for jay are again nothing yeah it's again it's a filler five months until his first ever singles
00:22:32championship win in september hated this i was so dead set against this because like sure giving him
00:22:41that big singles title win came at the expense of bron breaker and then i was like all right well
00:22:46now you've got to have a big run for him and he loses like one month later so really you just did it
00:22:52to have the moment and i think this is you know we talked about this with triple a as well it's a moment
00:22:57booker like like as a company i think wwe just books for moments and not for like long-term actual
00:23:02payoffs so jay and people defended at the time being like but look at the ovation he got but then he
00:23:08lost it a month later so great one one night one ovation what did it lead to nothing and bron just
00:23:14wins the belt back and bronze then loses the title mania but he didn't feel as powerful as impactful
00:23:19when don wins the belt because breaker had already lost it once yeah i think an unbroken long-term run
00:23:25for breaker who was really over this made both guys less over i think it really reminds me actually
00:23:31of when sting beats hogan at starcades the big storyline that is like sting finally ended hogan's run
00:23:37what people forget is that hogan had already lost the belt once in that storyline to lex luger for a
00:23:42bit um and breaker do you remember breaker was going to turn babyface for two weeks yeah he was
00:23:47looking at gunther i'm pretty sure like maybe gunther was going to turn face we're going to ever uh
00:23:52well they did try and turn gunther babyface for a little bit but they felt like we're going to
00:23:55elevate bron up the card he's now dropped the icy belt and he's now going to be going after gunther
00:23:59in the world title so if you're keeping track folks four years so september 2020 is that hell in a
00:24:06sale i think with roman four years later jay wins his first singles championship as a singles star
00:24:15okay i would say that's too long me too he broke away from the bloodline a year and a half earlier
00:24:23yeah so if we're just taking triple h's long-term booking this is too long a term booking this is too
00:24:30um and yeah like you said he wins it september he loses it back a month later in october so what was
00:24:36the point anyway you got the moment so you're like okay well that's main event jay usso is
00:24:41actually mid-card champion once for one month in his entire career okay that's that that to me is
00:24:47that's what main event actually means in this moniker it's not really main event because true
00:24:53main eventers don't tell you they're a main event but then in january saturday night's main event
00:25:02comes around and he's got a world heavyweight title program against gunther there's no way he's
00:25:08beating gunther they're saving gunther for a big match at wrestlemania and he loses he loses to
00:25:14gunther he loses and i think that was like his second loss to gunther i think for the world title
00:25:19and so and then he cuts that promo the week before the rumble where he's just like next time i face
00:25:24gunther i'm gonna win and we were like oh yeah but the royal rumble's coming up next so we'll probably
00:25:29find who his actual challenge is going to be then turns out it was jay usso because jay usso then won
00:25:33the royal rumble yeah on that saturday night's main event one you're like okay yeah he he is the guy
00:25:39to lose to the champion on a nothing show on another show that no one remembers but yeah february 1st
00:25:47weirdly uh the royal rumble comes down to him and john cena and i i still think it's an amazing moment
00:25:54and it was shocking and but i was more into it because what does this mean for john cena yeah
00:26:00he's chasing his 17th world title yeah and he loses we all thought at that point the story was
00:26:05still he can't win anything because that was the promo he told us was the his storyline yeah that's
00:26:10a whole other bag of booking we won't get into so this is where we get into well now we're having
00:26:15to practically confront the idea of wwe outright pushing jay as a full-on main eventer he just won the
00:26:23royal rumble usually that means you main event wrestlemania this is this isn't just saying he's
00:26:29a main eventer this isn't just giving him a month-long intercontinental title reign this is wwe
00:26:35saying here's our new big guy and i think what we discovered over that period of time was that
00:26:40they didn't really have much of a story planned for them because uh-oh the royal rumbles at the end
00:26:46of february uh-oh wrestlemania is at the end of april we've got to stretch out what is effectively
00:26:53two weeks worth of story oh for a good two and a bit months here yeah uh thank god for the alpha
00:26:59academy and a town down under so now you can see on screen the yeeting is real people are into it
00:27:09this is sort of netflix era raw it's it's a huge part of the show and it seems tremendously loud and
00:27:14over but the online reaction does not reflect that because on the youtube video of jay uso winning the
00:27:22royal rumble on wwe's channel it has 29 000 thumbs up to 50 000 thumbs down that is essentially
00:27:31every one person who liked it two people didn't like it i remember the time the online reaction we
00:27:38had it was a lot of people were down on this idea i think people really wanted seen it to win
00:27:43well again i not to misrepresent us we were into it we liked the idea of it the cena loss it was a
00:27:51shocking moment i'm talking about like our comment section yes at the time people being against the
00:27:56idea yeah so in this build it's not the best build as you already said and jay's limitations which i
00:28:04think we were accepting of during the intercontinental title run the five weeks because remember the week
00:28:11after he comes out he does the eats and he cuts a promo and he's out of breath and he rambles and
00:28:17he forgets his place and i at the time i i wasn't that into it i thought it was a bit cringy particularly
00:28:23because he he essentially failed in cutting the promo but a lot of other people were like yeah but
00:28:28this is how much it means to him like i i like the emotion i can see that like you want to see the
00:28:33real person sometimes but then when it comes in the build to wrestlemania for one of the top titles
00:28:39supposedly i think people's patience wasn't there for that level it wore thin because jay uso
00:28:45just does one botch in this build he does actually there's a couple yeah i think i said in a news
00:28:53episode about it that he attempted five moves and he messed up three of them yeah and he wasn't he
00:28:58slipped during a spear i think that was the main thing it was the spit so it was the botch to the
00:29:02outside when he did the dive and he sort of like crashed and burned there but he did a spear that
00:29:06was basically michael cole called it a crossbody on commentary because he i mean he has got the
00:29:12worst spear in the history of professional wrestling uh and and that's like yeah that that video of that
00:29:21match had 13 000 thumbs up and 57 000 thumbs down yeah so the thumbs down are are increasing in terms
00:29:30of people thumbs upping it so every every one person who liked it pretty much five to six people
00:29:37didn't like it so we're up we're up there uh wwe weirdly built that into a uh a storyline didn't
00:29:43they for two weeks that jay hasn't got what it takes yeah he needs to refocus it felt like they
00:29:48actually did pivot that into a story of jay uso is actually a bit rubbish and he needs to get better
00:29:52if he's going to beat gunther and then it becomes a thing on unreal of like you need to get better at
00:29:58this if we're going to put the world title on you yeah and jay uso himself has confessed his cardio
00:30:04isn't like he's so used to being a tag wrestler that wrestling a singles match and doing two
00:30:10entrances every time is tiring and he gets gassed in his promos and matches it's not like he just
00:30:17started doing singles wrestling so i totally see your point there jay uso that it is different from
00:30:23being a tag guy to a singles guy but you've been doing it for a little while now being a singles guy
00:30:27so then april at wrestlemania he does beat gunther the matches is is good it's all right it's not
00:30:36one of the things i remember really the thing i remember most about it is how little yeet fell over
00:30:41like the i remember like gorilla position podcast about this they were james dealer was so adamant
00:30:47this should be the main event of night one because this sea of people yeeting when james is going to
00:30:52be an incredible sight because it'll be an incredible sight for the opener but at the closing of a show it
00:30:56will feel so special and in the end it opens the show and it's i'm there looking around like watching
00:31:03the show just seeing where the people yeeting are and it turns out when you do it in a stadium of like
00:31:0880 000 people it's hard to get 80 000 people to do one singular thing at one singular time
00:31:13so it didn't feel like it does in a smaller arena it didn't feel like it was over
00:31:18then we have the world heavyweight title run you're like okay we're finally here pretty much
00:31:25five years after the jayuso experiment began to build him up within the bloodline faction break
00:31:32him away as a single star and build him up to a proper main event level um do they still call him
00:31:37main event what main event yeah main event jayuso do they still say the main event part
00:31:43now yeah yeah they do right i'm just sort of it's white noise to me but the the big plan for jay's uh
00:31:51world heavyweight title run is to hold it for uh what what is that is that it's six weeks
00:32:00but surely within those six weeks he he won a bunch of matches right no in his first title defense
00:32:07seth beat him the title did not change hands because it was via dq cm punk attack seth
00:32:13the second match on the 24th of may on saturday night's main event uh jay beat logan pool
00:32:20and a match i i forgot happened i mean everybody does at this point and then on the 9th of june
00:32:25on an episode of tv gunther beat jay because they needed gunther to wrestle goldberg that's exactly
00:32:31because they wanted to do the goldberg retirement thing and they wanted to bury the goldberg retirement
00:32:35well seth got hurt they couldn't have they couldn't have imagined you couldn't fact that
00:32:40into plans for goldberg's retirement ruse of the century on bill triple h's ruse of the century
00:32:47he was laughing all the way home with that one and you know what as much as we dislike triple h
00:32:52fair play the levels to tank your own screen your own product just to pursue a personal vendetta
00:33:01is vince levels of maniac actually i do love it i kind of love it is funny it is funny not for bill
00:33:09it's funny elsewhere it's sadly it's funnier because he's annoyed about it it's funny because
00:33:16it is bill it might have only been funny if it was brett um yeah when when do goldberg and brett
00:33:23get together that's it against triple h this will be the thing that unites them
00:33:26um so yeah that's just like the intercontinental title reign they had nothing for him they built
00:33:34to a moment they had no follow-up jay uso at this point to me feels like a guy and you there's a
00:33:41history of these within wwe and i'm gonna actually funnily enough go to the new day kofi kingston is a
00:33:47is another one of these guys kofi kingston was not supposed to win the wwe championship
00:33:52kofi kingston won the wwe championship because kofi mania got over it was not the original
00:33:57wrestlemania plans it was supposed to be uh danielton versus kevin owens for the title
00:34:01but kofi mania got over so they they changed they pivoted plans and they put kofi at wrestlemania
00:34:07and he wins the title but you can tell one week later that they don't really see kofi kingston as a
00:34:14top guy and the wwe champion because he's about the third most important thing and he's just feuding
00:34:19with dolf ziggler for three months he that's not an actual we're giving you a solid go with this
00:34:26when punk first won the title um the wwe championship you can tell they did not see him as a top guy
00:34:33when daniel bryan daniel straight into a feud with kane into a feud with kane you can if you just
00:34:37position people in with mid card matches or against mid carders they don't really do they don't really
00:34:44see you as a top star but it feels like they kind of have to push jay because he's so over
00:34:49they just don't want to push him because they don't see him actually as a top star i disagree
00:34:55because they've spent the last five years building him i think roman has spent the five last five years
00:35:01interesting getting over this idea that jay is a top level guy if they really saw jay as a top level
00:35:07guy he wouldn't have had a four-week ic title run and he wouldn't have had a six-week uh world heavyweight
00:35:13championship run where he only had one successful title defense i just don't see i don't personally
00:35:19think that they think that he's a top guy maybe they only see him as really having uh sort of uh use
00:35:27in entrances a utility guy on raw he wrestles a lot of matches but more than a lot of people and
00:35:35you know a solid hand in that respect and also he's a great player in the bloodline soap opera
00:35:40there's remember they used to say about about daniel bryan daniel bryan's not over yes is over
00:35:46i wonder if there's a bit of that mentality here as well as that jay is not over yeet is over and
00:35:51yeet is over like i had this in my my best catchphrases video that we did recently uh on tlc and you and
00:35:58tullivan were perplexed by me having it in there and i was like it won him a world title if he did not
00:36:02have this yeet he probably wouldn't have won the world heavyweight championship at wrestlemania
00:36:06well he loses the world title in june and then he doesn't you know he's he's in the main event scene
00:36:14he's always in the conversation of a number one contenders match he'll face the bronze
00:36:19it's the same stuff and he loses every time he loses number one contenders matches he loses one
00:36:27just two weeks ago on raw and they start to tell actually quite a really decent story of him slowly
00:36:34turning heel because he's listening to roman's selfish advice and becoming more like roman the
00:36:40bad aspects of roman and less like his brother jimmy who's more about babyface helping everyone
00:36:45yeah which actually has been a really good story it's the most i've been into jay for a while
00:36:50definitely definitely giving him an edge as well because now he can rather than being like you're a
00:36:54babyface i'll save you he'll walk out on people he'll he'll attack la night um it's been good stuff
00:37:02he cost the roman match at crown jewel when they had the tag match and it's like okay this is what
00:37:07you've got planned for him he's gonna do a new bloodline thing maybe he'll face roman again
00:37:12whatever but then because of the seth stuff despite losing the number one contenders match and punk
00:37:18winning that one they have the battle royal which we've already covered and we all wanted it to be
00:37:24brombreaker but he wasn't even in the match so jay wins again furthering the jimmy dissension
00:37:29and the youtube video here's the big one so remember so far we've sort of had a two to one
00:37:36dislike ratio on the rumble video uh five to one dislike on the on the mania build slip
00:37:44this one had 14 000 thumbs up do you want to guess how many thumbs down
00:37:49uh is it north of 50 yeah north of 60 yeah 70 or no 80 83 000 thumbs down that is
00:38:05every one person who gave it a thumbs up seven people essentially gave it a thumbs down that's
00:38:12out of 670 000 views yeah now we've talked about this before on videos but youtube height the thumbs
00:38:19down counter now i think because they posted a video that people didn't like it was the old
00:38:23youtube rewinds oh those were the days they're like well fine you can't have the thumbs down
00:38:27anymore it's like how elon musk hid likes because i don't want to see you what liking the weird porn
00:38:31i'm into um so but it is still there in the infrastructure if you have a plug-in you can see
00:38:36what the dislikes are and yeah it's it's staggering numbers but if i can play devil's avocado
00:38:42on this i think there's an argument to be made that the rumble and this battle royal one are not
00:38:50just against jay as a person but against wwe as a company you know that you'd say about jinder as
00:38:57wb champion people weren't booing jinder for heel heat as w champion they were booing wwe for making
00:39:03jinder the champion yeah and so i think there's a little bit of that in here it's people being annoyed
00:39:08that it's not a new guy people are annoyed that it's not brom breaker looking at the rumble people
00:39:12annoyed that it's not john cena people annoyed that it's not cm punk i because we want people to be
00:39:18pushed new guys yeah but not that guy i wanted to be a different guy so i wonder if there's a little
00:39:24bit of mixture in all of that i know i personally have got jayuso fatigue i i do but despite the fact
00:39:31that i am into jayuso more in storyline wise i have zero interest in seeing him have matches
00:39:36um so i've got a little bit of jayuso fatigue but my issue more with it was against the decision to
00:39:43go with jayuso when you had an opportunity to go with someone new that's not directed at jay that's
00:39:47directed at wwe i i agree i was i was more i was very annoyed uh at wwe and triple h for not going
00:39:56with bron um but going through the comments i was surprised and it's not like this should you know
00:40:02there aren't those comments there but the all the top voted comments are oh jayuso again like hit
00:40:08hit here's what we would have had uh la night see a lot of la night fans so how realistic is this as a
00:40:14representation of the actual fan base uh you know here's what we wanted cm punk versus no i think to
00:40:23be fair i think one comment was this here's what we wanted cm punk versus brom breaker here's what we
00:40:28would have accepted cm punk versus aj styles here's what would have been fun cm punk versus la night
00:40:34here's what would have been crazy cm punk versus dominic mysterio here's what no one wanted jayuso
00:40:42versus cm punk and i think that is like i said in the the uh the raw review we did on tuesday i think
00:40:47it was the least interesting all the options available to them outside of la night funny enough
00:40:51uh i liked what we would have accepted oh i'll accept aj styles versus cm punk oh you'll accept that
00:40:58one will you yes well there is you know that we're aware that we're entitled bastards as wrestling fans
00:41:04i just think some people are thick and and this this is also youtube comments and youtube thumbs up
00:41:10thumbs down this is a vocal portion of the fan base um but then at the same time that you know
00:41:20sometimes they they we you know included getting our own bubble in our own heads and it's it's not
00:41:25actually productive but then at the same time we're we tend to be ahead of the curve in some
00:41:30things that's yeah that's true like wwe famously going back to the territory days they used to pay
00:41:36attention to what happened in new york because new york had a smarter fan base is what they would refer
00:41:42to them as so they could their reactions to baby faces and heels tended to be ahead of where it would
00:41:51be in a few months it when they toured around the rest of the country so vince mcmahon senior
00:41:56would pay specific attention to the reaction of the new york crowd to buddy rogers to make sure like
00:42:04oh he's getting cheered now that's good but if he's getting a little smaller in a booze that means in six
00:42:11months time everyone will be booing him maybe we won't start thinking about a heel turn so there is like
00:42:15there is precedent for smart fans which is such a horrible term where we are ahead of the curve but
00:42:23there is also history of us being totally wrong yeah because online is not real life yeah twitter
00:42:28is not real life youtube comments are not real life jay usa will make his entrance on monday night
00:42:34raw next week and he will get yeeted out of the building because people love to do the the channel
00:42:39along with him and he'll get cheered during his matches there is a there's a bit of a dissonance
00:42:43between that but maybe you because we've got to wait for the in-house crowds to start to get jay
00:42:50u so fatigue i wonder what could help this and as i actually was listening to gorilla positions uh
00:42:56latest episode yesterday about this and they made the pitch off jay should win the match he should beat
00:43:01punk for the title and then you build and then sammy wins the rumble and you build to sammy versus jay
00:43:07at wrestlemania yeah because what you tie back there into is where jay's strengths lie bloodline
00:43:13drama and those two have they did i can't believe they didn't do that much the first time that that
00:43:19jay was the world headwear champion they literally had an angle on tv where sammy zayn looked at the
00:43:23world title around him so granted you can then like revisionist look back and be like well we did just
00:43:29waste a bit of time with sammy going over to smackdown and having some fun matches with ray phoenix i
00:43:33guess but ultimately if you can get people in with a good story and a good hook that's when you won't
00:43:40hear a lot about jay you so fatigue you'll still hear about the matches because the matches aren't
00:43:44good but you won't hear it about like online reaction to him i don't think this is me speculating
00:43:50maybe that's why sammy did drop the belt uh on last steps on the last smackdown i think there's a
00:43:56free him up move him over i think that's a really good idea and i you know this storyline with roman and
00:44:02and the thing i think we're going to a jay usso heel term um so sammy trying to like appeal to
00:44:09his jay usso side and and maybe that's the thing that could make him more of an accepted main event
00:44:14world champion um but then the whole argument of well yeats over that that undermined i really do
00:44:23believe wherever they go and if if they manage to pull it off with that he hasn't been booked well
00:44:28no absolutely from from leaving the bloodline in august 2023 he hasn't been booked well for the
00:44:35last two and a bit years and no one really takes him seriously as a main eventer so when you do start
00:44:42pushing him as a main eventer as you've seen this year it hasn't caught on properly no i think you're
00:44:47absolutely right there because that that does work against you and what if jay is going to be turning
00:44:52heel he needs to stop eating then that's what's going to get him the heel heat is actually just
00:44:58stop doing that and if he just comes out and starts being more like roman and then you lead to the
00:45:02storyline with sammy saying i do think this can turn people around on jay usso and the online perception
00:45:07of him but you need to like go you need to go into it you can't half-ass this because i think that that
00:45:14won't help him either and like i said like the matches aren't going to be great because neither of the
00:45:18the promos and not you know but if he's not yeeting yeah he won't be out of breath and then maybe he'll
00:45:23be fine yeah well let us know what you all think and we'll read out some of the comments on the next
00:45:28episode hey everyone rob van dam here did you realize that my brother sabu was filming his last days
00:45:40all the way up until he passed he was working on this documentary it was really important for him to
00:45:47share the most intimate moments of the real guy dealing with everyday real life especially
00:45:58this part of his life while he was training for his last match i hope you'll check out the new sabu
00:46:06documentary available at patreon.com slash wrestle talk while you're there if you sign up you can get
00:46:15extra materials such as a shoot interview from luke and ollie and the director's commentary
00:46:22with joe clark and me rvd you can head on over to patreon.com forward slash wrestle talk right now
00:46:30and check out sabu the awesome awesome documentary as you just heard from rob van dam there our new
00:46:36friend rob van dam and we've also got the aces and eight series that luke and i are diving deep into
00:46:41right now that's all over there uh two episodes in three episodes three episodes in uh oh no it
00:46:46might be two i can't remember it just feels like we it's three it is three because we did one public
00:46:51for it uh so yeah we're in chapter four next time where we're gonna be looking at an episode of impact
00:46:56actually two weeks worth of impact because tna stopped doing monthly pay-per-views and started doing
00:47:01big um so you uh event episodes of impact instead and you'll also have access to all of the monday
00:47:08night war series including the current one monday night war 2000 it's an exciting triple threat
00:47:14between me luke and dan layton indeed so should we talk about uh aew dynamite yes a two-hour dynamite
00:47:21i mean two hours ten minutes with the overrun but i'll take it look at you with your doom saying last
00:47:25week it's three hours by stealth that's what ollie davis would say knock on everyone's door being like
00:47:31tell everyone it's going to three hours they're just not telling you about it yet what happened here
00:47:36was two hours it's a two-hour episode of dynamite well i did say i was i was joking when i said those
00:47:41things uh but i i really think this this episode flew by for me i i enjoyed it you know it's not an
00:47:48all-time great episode this is just a really solid episode of dynamite really helped by the fact that
00:47:54it's two hours long and not stretched over two and a half i thought its second half was better than
00:47:58its first i think there's some elements of the first half that are actually quite weak okay i didn't
00:48:03like the mercedes monet segments uh i think the the women's tag stipulation was a little bit too
00:48:09wacky um and there was no big follow-up to the the joe angle uh yeah i i guess so but the demon
00:48:17etrigam was displayed on the the ringside barriers this is my first note i've written here watching this
00:48:25show is like having a conversation with ollie about wrestling what did you think of this wrestling match
00:48:29it reminds me of this jeff johns run on green lands and in the mid 2000s we got metamorpho we've got
00:48:37batman so dc right now if you're not aware i haven't read it yet it's start like the first issue was
00:48:42either last month or this month um that they're in a big event where the absolute universe written by
00:48:48scott steiner and the scott steiner yep
00:48:51you got some fat asses over here um the scott steiner and the inferior scott of course
00:49:02and um joshua williamson who does the the lame old version of dc currently and yeah it's called the
00:49:10ko event the kevin owens event and they did a sort of aw comic book tie-in thing as well which i'm not
00:49:18still don't quite understand some covers right no i think it's a it's a it's a series no way
00:49:24well but maybe i'm wrong i yeah the only one i've been into and i've only seen posts about it because
00:49:30i follow uh various godzilla accounts on instagram but they're doing like godzilla versus um justice
00:49:35league stuff right like i saw a cover recently with like the death of godzilla and it was a parody
00:49:40of the the death of superman cover that's probably been the first thing in dc for a while i'm like
00:49:44well now i'm interested godzilla you say it's a really good independent uh single issue i think
00:49:50it was where it's godzilla and the great gatsby it's kind of taken a league of gentlemen approach
00:49:54to it's just ip thief everything uh but that looks good but yeah we uh it's in so the the barrier and
00:50:02the ring apron had comic book dc little square pictures of people to advertise this ko event and
00:50:11it might just be because you and i reviewed 2023 the flash yesterday that i saw some dc characters
00:50:17like i don't want to look at you guys right now i know but it's it's interesting how who's getting
00:50:23the push you know like when the mcu became big in the early 2010s all of a sudden marvel really
00:50:30scaled back the x-men they really they pushed them down the pecking order somewhat mother's capcom 3
00:50:37nope there'll be no x-men in this one for you and it's similar here not like to that full extent of
00:50:43uh because dc own all their ip and their characters but having like metamorphos on the the front eight
00:50:50lineup metamorpho because because he's a featured character in in superman you've got guy gardner i
00:50:57saw lobo on there as well lobo yes momoa has been cast as lobo so they and james gunn's obviously got
00:51:03plans for lobo there was like he apparently was going to be in in superman everyone's always got
00:51:08big plans for lobo but what about lobo about brainiac uh but yeah we have metamorpho batman
00:51:15supergirl harley quinn superman lobo guy gardner green lantern wonder woman on the sort of front
00:51:21line up there and yes etrigan the demon who is a bit of a deep cut he's becoming more popular i guess
00:51:27but he rhymes he's a demon who rhymes yeah uh there was also uh during the women's tag match
00:51:34um megan bain was poison ivy and penelope ford was harley quinn oh yeah they were
00:51:40anyway it's a show opened with hangman page cutting a promo from wrestle dream where he said he's going
00:51:46to promise to ruin samoa joe's effing life uh that life ruining didn't happen in the trios championship
00:51:53match though because the ops retained over the hurt syndicate i don't mind that i like hangman page
00:51:58off selenny's neck let joe breathe here to to because he got his first promo after the match
00:52:05which i thought was excellent yeah good i didn't mind that i would have preferred more people take
00:52:11time off although i did enjoy that segment which i think was the best thing on the show because i know
00:52:16i know what you're talking about there for me with this is i said this on the restroom review i'm not
00:52:22sure people are going to boo samoa joe and as it turns out they don't it's really fun to chant joe
00:52:27and cheer him because he's cool the only time they really gave joe any heat is when he stopped doing
00:52:33the meat match between uh bobby lashley and powerhouse hops that got him some heat from the
00:52:37crowd but broadly speaking these people were not booing him for laying out the world champion and
00:52:41turning heel at the pay-per-view yeah he cut off mvp's hot tag as well with an eye poke briefly
00:52:46because mvp was getting a lot of nostalgia pops here for for rubbish moves like balling
00:52:51um but then yeah the mvp had the playmaker set up but ricochet makes the distraction
00:52:57letting joe winn via a kakina clutch fun match but sort of one of those endings where i go oh
00:53:03yes i thought we moved on from this it's not the only time we're going to say that on this show of
00:53:08like oh i thought that was i thought i was in at the pay-per-view so yeah the demand all of a
00:53:13sudden have long coats on and they've been having long coats for ages yeah but the ricochet wasn't
00:53:18wearing it a second beforehand and yeah they back off hurts and they could chase them so
00:53:23that feud must continue as brian alvarez would say uh but i did enjoy uh as you said joe's promo
00:53:29yes i completely agree with you there why why because of the line you may be about cowboy s but
00:53:35i'm going to slap you like a bitch well that's a good one i enjoyed that he said it's great to be in
00:53:40antonio for all the fat women for hobbs to shag and hobbs is there pretending to hoist fat women
00:53:49over his head and failing
00:53:51i don't think i need this heel samoa joe doing eye pokes fat jokes in the crowd he's cool i thought
00:54:01i still thought it was cool it worked for me and also when he said because he's he started to go
00:54:06really badass mean intense joe that's the joe i want as long as you're the champion i am coming
00:54:11for you and then he said and he i'd swear his tonal register went a bit rick flair
00:54:15as uh as long as you think you're the man
00:54:20he went a bit nasal rick flair he said i'm also gonna come for you uh but yeah i yeah i i i thought
00:54:28this was really effective i get that people aren't properly giving him heel heat but he's over and
00:54:34hobs and shibata look awesome as the backup they do indeed uh mercedes arrived with all of her
00:54:38titles and renee interviewed chris statlander who said hey mercedes you got 12 titles well i've
00:54:43beaten tony storm you haven't i'm the women's world champion you're not i accept your challenge for full
00:54:48gear and teased interfering in the celebration said enjoy your celebration darby allen came out for a
00:54:56promo i think his entrance was longer than his promo itself he came out being like some people think i
00:55:01shouldn't be the top guy around here because i climbed everest i think that just shows you that
00:55:04i'll do anything for this company see you and off he went yeah yeah nothing about staying well yeah i
00:55:12mean what he did say though is that uh he doesn't appear to be done with moxton the death riders and i
00:55:19was like huh well what was wrestle dream all about then because i thought we were done
00:55:24there it was an i quit match yeah following on from a coffin match yeah uh he said he knows the
00:55:31death riders aren't going to go away so as long as they are breathing i will be pursuing them well
00:55:37that sounds like a few that will never end then yeah it was a bit like when hangman page defeated
00:55:42john moxley all in i'm like oh okay so the death riders are away for a bit and then the next two
00:55:48weeks was hangman wrestling the death riders another match with moxley yeah uh we've got a video
00:55:54from jurassic express after winning a rest stream saying they're coming for the tag team titles i
00:55:58thought this was a good blend of serious scapegoat jack perry but growing up from his jungle boy
00:56:05persona into i'm now a more serious baby face speaking of those tag titles as we talked about
00:56:11earlier there's a four-way women's tag match where the stipulation was whoever wins gets to pick the
00:56:18team they face in the first round of the tournament i don't mind that you think it's clunky i think i think
00:56:23it's a bit clunky yeah it's good because you know if a heel team won you would pick easy competition
00:56:28then you've got a great underdog babyface storyline there for the match or if a babyface team win like
00:56:34they did it was uh aminata and jamie hater they pick some people they want to beat the crap out of
00:56:39good finish for queen aminata and jamie hater by the way god they hook they hook penelope forward by
00:56:44the arm and then queen aminata gave her the headbutt and then jamie hater laid her out with a hater raid
00:56:48it was rad uh they were really good i thought everyone was pretty good in this match
00:56:52too it was megan bane and penelope ford versus the sisters of sin julia hart and sky blue versus
00:56:57harley cameron and willow nightingale harley cameron finally found a tag partner that will work with her
00:57:02in because it wasn't gonna be mercedes chris tatlander won the world title so now it's willow
00:57:06nightingale versus aminata and hater yeah i thought it was a good match i enjoyed it
00:57:09aminata and hater were the only people not in matching gear everyone else put a lot of effort in
00:57:15yeah uh but bane and ford i thought were the standouts i thought they were really good in this match
00:57:20and should we go through the brackets for that oh no we'll actually we'll need to get through the
00:57:24mercedes thing i guess first so where do we get to uh the bucks were backstage as was pointed out a
00:57:29couple of times uh in the comments because you were talking about tony khan's thing and i hadn't
00:57:34noticed tony khan's nameplate on his office door on his office door and a few people said oh it's time
00:57:39cop and so then when i saw it on this i was like oh yeah that's time cop it's got a little crock in it
00:57:43it's absolutely time cop what a what a guy he just loves that movie uh renee asked the young
00:57:50bucks because they were trying to get to tony khan's office what's next for you and nick's like
00:57:53i'll tell you what's next for us i'm gonna get us another match with money on the line
00:57:56so knocks on the door tony khan walks out making an appearance on screen uh doesn't blink and makes
00:58:03and looks at the camera a lot
00:58:04there's a reason why you were doing all of these behind closed doors previously i you know these are
00:58:13so sporadic and rare i didn't mind this i thought it was funny you're just looking at the well i'm
00:58:20looking at the camera oh and these guys and then he walks out of shot bless him he's not a performer
00:58:28uh but it's going to be the young bucks uh what's gonna be jurassic express and jet speed as a team
00:58:35an eight-man all-star tag versus the young bucks and ftr on collision that sounds awesome yeah and the
00:58:42reveal of the ftr who were in the room with tony and they came out when tony said i thought was
00:58:47very good because there's so much history between them love it renee brings out mercedes-monnaie for
00:58:52her title celebration uh but before mercedes could come out the mercedes puppets appeared from under
00:58:59the table instead and got renee to do the ceo dance and then mercedes-monnaie's music hits again and
00:59:05she comes out looking so angry and annoyed at this i thought mercedes performance was really fun
00:59:11she comes out she skips renee you get out of this ring because you've let this happen
00:59:16and she calls the crowd dumb marks and she took the pop the puppet then mocks uh what she is saying
00:59:23and then she mercedes grabs the puppet and she shoves it in the cake the celebration cake
00:59:29and then the puppet looks all sad and shaken but from underneath the table and between mercedes-monnaie's
00:59:35legs is chris datlander and chris datlander then drops her into the cake as well yeah because the
00:59:40the idea is you think oh it's just harley cameron there and you know she reveals herself as well
00:59:46and it's all a misdirect because chris is there and puts her through the table which was a great
00:59:51reveal um i know some people really like the puppet monet i do yeah it wasn't for me i don't like i
01:00:00don't like muppets yeah i like the muppets yeah i think this isn't for me i think if you put up it
01:00:04there's a train line at the moment that's got a puppet as a uh it's mascot and i'm like i want to get
01:00:08that train line i don't know man puppets just like if you put a puppet on something i'm in
01:00:12why do you think mr iguana's over uh because he's got an iguana yeah he's got a puppet puppets
01:00:19puppets get anything over debatable if it's a puppet i thought this was this was sports
01:00:26entertainment and i wasn't really here for it yeah yeah which is which is quite monet does this
01:00:34sometimes but it's better when she doesn't yeah i know yeah yeah at least it's in like at least
01:00:38it's felt organic and not the most stilted party in the world the deadest party in the world oh wow
01:00:44monet must be so cool and high flying with the four people in the background of this party a couple of
01:00:49wkd blues yeah moxley cut this promo like where he's just talking to himself in the mirror about the
01:00:56loss to darby allen not making any excuses about it but it's time to you know we're going to move
01:01:00forward as the death riders and then he had this match with kylo reilly which really felt like okay
01:01:05you've lost to the pay-per-view you now get a an exhibition match to get you a win back and
01:01:10put you on a path to what your next program will be but this wasn't that at all and they were talking
01:01:16about on commentary like kylo said if he wins this match it'll be the biggest win of his career
01:01:19because he's going up against john moxley here and they had a really technical brilliant match like
01:01:26it was it was very technical wrestling it was ground-based wrestling transitions from submissions
01:01:31it was really really good but the story as it went on is that although kylo reilly was the underdog
01:01:37he had the he had the upper hand and danielson was pointing this out in commentary john moxley was
01:01:43just the longer it went on got more and more rattled that crowd got so into this match by the end of
01:01:49it now this moment where he got kylo reilly into the bulldog choke but reilly was right next to the
01:01:55ropes and danielson just goes like that's not moxley moxley would moxley any other week two
01:02:01weeks ago would have had better ring positioning than that would not have allowed kyle to be so
01:02:06close to the ropes yeah it wasn't a case of um kyle was just out wrestling him yeah he was this is
01:02:13john moxley death riders leader recent awl champion this guy who's in the lower mid card is out wrestling
01:02:21out wrestling him and in the end he again transit kyle does out of one of moxley submissions and gets
01:02:29the ankle lock on and john moxley a couple of times the t's tapping out to the arm bar and stuff
01:02:34and it looks like he's about to tap out again or say i quit and he grabs the referee and decks the ref
01:02:39more refs run down and it's declared a dq so kyle gets the win this did amazing for kyle he looked
01:02:47awesome coming out of this but it was so cool for moxley it was shocking it was a shocking moment
01:02:53you don't see many dq finishes like that in aw and it wasn't done as a booking crutch like we see in
01:02:59other companies it was done because this was a character driven moment because moxley cannot tap
01:03:06out again can't be he is now like terrified of submissions after he tapped out to derby at the
01:03:11pay-per-view well yeah i mean so we guess is it going to be a submissions match well so to skip
01:03:18ahead derby then ran off john moxley uh during because they had an eight-man tag it was a six-man
01:03:23tag conglomeration versus the death rides conglomeration one which i thought was
01:03:26excellent fun part that whole match everyone felt like the main character it was great uh but yeah the
01:03:32um mark briscoe wins pins wheeler yuta a big brawl afterwards and it's derby who makes a save from
01:03:39the death rider's about to so yeah the death riders again tail between their legs backing off
01:03:43i so when moxley has that backstage promo and he's talking about derby's strength was the deciding
01:03:51factor but now i've got to get back to work it's like this doesn't feel like the coward moxley
01:03:57that i've been i sort of worked myself into thinking was behind the finish at wrestle dream which i don't
01:04:03think you were wrong on because um excalibur called him a coward on commentary
01:04:07but it's just you know like people can say that's the thing that's happening but i just
01:04:12it doesn't i don't believe that in my gut i don't believe that this moxley is a coward because he
01:04:19keeps yeah he's john moxley he's john moxley so i was a bit down on it i was like jesus take some
01:04:26time off make us miss you i did if you can't take a week off to sell the effects of an i quit blow-off
01:04:34match at the pay-per-view on saturday when are you going to take a week off seriously so i was a bit
01:04:40annoyed that john moxley was having this match but i was taken on a journey by the end of it that
01:04:46finish the the work from kyle the freaking conglomeration entrance oh man what an entrance
01:04:52it is with the like the sitcom opening it's like they're all in friends and they live in the same
01:04:57apartment and they're trying to fit on the sofa together and it's ishii yeah is amongst all of
01:05:03them they have finally made a version of chaos work but they that that goofiness totally
01:05:13unprepares you for what we're going to get from kyle against john moxley it's almost like a over-the-top
01:05:19setup of kyle's not a serious opponent he's going to get beaten by moxley because moxley is serious and
01:05:24he's angry but no kyle out wrestles him i i thought this was this was tremendously dumb
01:05:28done done not dumb done but i'm not into more moxley darby that's exactly what i said i really
01:05:36loved this direction for moxley loved the character work he was doing the second the darby ran out i was
01:05:42like again i really did feel like that was the end point at wrestle dream darby won he made john
01:05:50moxley tap like say i quit while he was on the flag of aew wait blood and guts but they're doing
01:05:58the women's blood and guts you could do two but oh don't do and i nearly swore then let's not do two
01:06:05blood and guts on the same show i i mean we've got death riders where else can you go after a casket
01:06:12and an i quit match usually aw book blood and guts as the start of a load of singles feuds
01:06:18but actually for once maybe they're going to do it right and have the conglomeration and derby
01:06:25versus the death riders in blood and guts and that that is the end of the death riders maybe that
01:06:30do you know what when you pitch it that way that i don't hate it at all i just don't want to do two
01:06:36blood and guts i agree yeah on the same show probably a four hour show yeah it's by stealth um it'll be a
01:06:43double taping with collision but for both the blood and guts will be on dynamite
01:06:46alicia then interviews mercedes monet backstage and she's freaking out about the cake and very
01:06:53interestingly athena walks up behind her and is like you're the longest reigning tbs champion i'm the
01:07:00forever ring of honor champion we're better than this you're better than having your face in cake
01:07:05we should also get more titles and we'll win uh the women's tag team titles and mercedes goes
01:07:1113 titles and she agrees and that's how they team up i like that me too that's a really cool
01:07:18partnership poor old billy starks but it's a really cool partnership um just before i forget
01:07:23roderick strong was excellent in in the six the preceding six man match uh do we do the the
01:07:31oh the brackets are slightly later i guess we could do we'll do them now yeah so on one
01:07:35one side it's aminada and hayda versus the sisters of sin willow and harley taking on
01:07:40monet and athena and on the other half of the bracket it's alex windsor and riho versus tony
01:07:46and mina shirikawa and megan bane and penelope ford versus tay j so if i could predict this i'd say
01:07:53tony storm and mina advanced to take on megan bane and penelope ford and then tony and mina win
01:08:00and on the other side who is it again it's aminada and hayda sisters of sin willow and harley
01:08:04monet and athena i think it's monet and athena yeah monet and athena versus hayda and aminata
01:08:10in the semis yep and it will be a final of monet athena versus tony and mina which is a really fun
01:08:17story to do because tony defended her women's championship successfully against both monet
01:08:23and athena despite them both being their long running championship runs yeah and that's genuine
01:08:29top stars to to start not necessarily like the most coherent tag teams but mina and tony have
01:08:36a long established relationship and then uh mate oh we are carl fletcher coming out for a promo he
01:08:41said that he could beat mark any time it could be a million times over and mark comes out to say i
01:08:47don't need a million more matches i just need one more match and don callous turned down the offer
01:08:53so usually wrestling logic means that means we will get that as the next match again not i thought
01:09:01we thought we were moving past this me too i guess this one does make more sense than the others it
01:09:07makes way more sense than ricochet the demand versus the hurt syndicate because the story here is that
01:09:12mark came so close to beating kyle i just need one more match against you and it be at the stipulation
01:09:18of like you'll never be able to challenge for the tnt championship again and then mark finally gets the
01:09:23win so that one this one makes more sense than the others and kyle cheated right yeah kicked him in
01:09:29the balls but yeah like i i guess in the grand scheme of things this one i don't mind this one
01:09:33i mind the least but to have so many continuing things out of wrestle dream when they felt like
01:09:39blow-offs it's a bit much we also had a backstage segment with mina shirakawa where she talked about
01:09:44that her and tony still were going to be called the timeless love bombs and then tecla walked up and i'm
01:09:51like yes tecla tecla versus tony storm because that feels like that's the spin-off feud we're going
01:09:56here thumbs up from me yeah but it'd probably be mina versus tecla first on collision well yeah
01:10:01that's that's what they that's what they announced wasn't it that's it because she's the
01:10:04roxane perez to the rachel rodriguez god she is oh and the triangle of man it's a judgment day
01:10:12and our main event for the unified championship was bandido versus kazuchika okada you'll never
01:10:18guess everyone this match ruled bandido's the man he's awesome and also i think we're we're a year
01:10:25and a half now into okada's reign uh as the unified champion and of course the continental champion
01:10:32before then this is a good run it is i think when he came in we had different expectations because
01:10:41we were used to new japan rainmaker babyface legendary okada and now i'm used to what his
01:10:47character is i'm not i'm not there like well where's the five six star match because this
01:10:55okada didn't do the six star match doesn't need to but he was just the way he composed himself in
01:11:03the ring nothing felt rushed it's just it is like watching a master craftsman at work yeah
01:11:09nothing rattles him like it's the main event of dynamite this doesn't need to be a six star match
01:11:15what this needs to be is the main event of dynamite and okada just gets that and he's so good at doing
01:11:20that main event style of a tv show and he's really really good at it and the story here was that bandido
01:11:26kind of actually had his number he pinned him at the pay-per-view and he was on top for a good stretch
01:11:31of this match towards the finish but he had the hurt wing from the don callis family from hechisera a
01:11:37couple of weeks back so when he hit the 21 plex didn't get all of it slow into the cover when he
01:11:44went to hit it a second time and it did look like you even then it was like okay and now okada goes
01:11:48to hit the rainmaker nope it's reversal city from bandido okay well now okada nope it's reversal city
01:11:53once again and he's got it set up to the 21 plex a second time and okada just grabs him one rainmaker
01:12:00puts him down no matter what you throw at okada the second he hits you with that rainmaker it's game over
01:12:06yeah they reset the effectiveness yeah which would be great then when takesta kicks out of it yeah
01:12:12that last one when bandido went over for the 21 plex usually you know he springs back but okada
01:12:18moved himself away from the ropes he goes all the way over and that's how he gets into the rainmaker
01:12:22bandido's incredible um we've been saying that for well everyone knows that but the last couple of
01:12:29months the guys really come into his own his selling was fantastic in this match because it
01:12:36wasn't just like sean michaels oh my arm it's i was watching him everything he did when okada was
01:12:43outside the ring hit one arm was moving more than the other yeah and just like taunts and everything
01:12:50that the the injured right arm was still moving but it just wasn't getting the same range of motion
01:12:56as the left yeah uh he he's fantastic he's so fantastic and afterwards the the callous family
01:13:02celebrated obviously not with uh with andrade or i was thinking about this today wardlow oh yeah he's
01:13:09injured is he injured is that what it is he got injured the week after he made his return no way i
01:13:14did not know that oh i actually make a joke about this in the in the review i was like oddly he's not
01:13:19been seen on tv since i didn't know he got injured that sucks for him um but they came out to celebrate
01:13:23and tikeshta um had a a tense stare down moment with okada yeah and don and kyle were both trying
01:13:29to play peacemakers it's a great moment when uh rocky romero it was uh trent barretta and josh
01:13:36alexander just exchanged this up being like what is this all about and okada is just there with the
01:13:42biggest grid on his face looking right at tikeshta he's a he's a fantastic heel i thought it was a good
01:13:48episode of dynamite it wasn't like as i said earlier i thought the second half was better than the first
01:13:52i really enjoyed this episode i thought it was a very solid episode would have preferred a few
01:13:57newer feuds uh rather than continuations but other than that i can't really fault it well do you have
01:14:02any recommendations oh no we've got comments sorry sorry i know the format of this show uh buck chuck
01:14:08gaming this is uh we were talking about age and the pushing of new stars on last week's episode
01:14:13don't forget new to the main event scene bronson reed is 37 and penta is taking the wwe by storm at 40
01:14:21hogan was 39 at wrestlemania 9 and savage was 38 when he lost his retirement match against
01:14:26wrestlemania 7 i was convinced as a young kid that 40 was ancient and retirement age lol me too
01:14:32i just said this before on this show many times over but when i was a kid and someone told me that
01:14:38the undertaker had been resting for 10 years in 2000 and i was like yeah he's gonna go for his
01:14:43retirement soon because there's no way there's gonna be going any longer than that he's been
01:14:46wrestling for 10 years little did we know he'd be another 20 odd years before he would eventually
01:14:51uh finally retire the thing with with hogan and savage there is that they then left wwf because
01:14:56they were considered too old and went over to wcw where wwf expressly kept saying they're old guys
01:15:03come over to our show because we've got young guys but they they had an enormous boom in popularity
01:15:09you know that's hogan's uh nwo run i was thinking also like goldberg and the rock when they came back
01:15:15after their spells away they're early 40s they felt like the oldest men in the on the planet
01:15:21but that was 2016 for goldberg for instance i uh bit people you know one of the arguments against
01:15:27my continuing bringing up of age is well you know wrestlers because of healthier lifestyles and
01:15:33training do can perform longer into their late 40s and i'm not i'm not saying this point on last
01:15:39week's show i'm not saying people cannot wrestle or be main eventers up to their 50s i'm saying
01:15:44there should be a range where you should also push people in their late 20s early 30s it does feel
01:15:49like you are if you're in your 20s you're not considered ready enough so you've got to wait
01:15:54till you get into your 30s and by that point it's like where you've just wasted you know prime years
01:15:59where you could have been on top yeah uh andrew spell writes i think an interesting thing about
01:16:05the talk of getting younger people into the title scene is that it's seemingly only an issue with the
01:16:09men's division in the women's division we have people like stephanie and roxanne who as soon as
01:16:14they get called up they enter the title picture it's just so bizarre how hesitant they are to pull
01:16:19the trigger on guys who are clearly over and can hold their own in the ring i think i said this on
01:16:24the tuesday show but i think part of that is it's different a women age differently than men
01:16:29not as a scientific fact but in tv years if you are a woman on screen and you get to a certain age
01:16:36you are considered older but if a man is at the same age you are not considered old yeah there's um
01:16:41the one i always bring up is um i played um superman's mom in man of steel oh geez i i can't
01:16:50remember her name but i know i can picture the face but she was like the same age as um uh robert
01:16:55downey jr right who was iron man yeah it's it's it's it's just the way that so it's it's a sexist
01:17:02thing but women are being older is perceived as different to men being older yeah so in wwe
01:17:08management's eyes are like we haven't got as much time with the women yeah and they're sort of
01:17:13their version of a lifespan lady frost was told us she's like 34 or 35 you're too old to be here now
01:17:19and that's why she one of the reasons she got released i don't know how sure that was during
01:17:22the vint series yeah i don't know how true this is but i was always told by wrestlers and women
01:17:28wrestlers that women that because they are physically different from men they just their
01:17:35bodies over time cannot take the same amount of bumps wrestlers talk about a bump card you've got
01:17:39x amount of bumps in your lifespan that is finite and it is always going down uh and uh apparently a
01:17:46woman's bump card is less than that which is why you've got a lot of neck injuries but i don't know
01:17:51if that's that's an outdated way of thinking maybe because you know i feel like mercedes monet is
01:17:56going to be wrestling into her uh mid 50s yeah she's born in like 92 or something yeah uh and our
01:18:01last one here is from big lee jam who said bring back the two-man exclusive jam that championship
01:18:07belt it was silly fun well maybe i included this comment in there i didn't think of the the fun
01:18:14because obviously it's it's just me and luke here now mainly on wrestle talk uh so we haven't been
01:18:19using the championship but the idea you can't see it but it's on it's behind us the idea of just a
01:18:24two-man division
01:18:26what we would steven larson it's what we would hate on a wwe product as uh i got a kick out of that so
01:18:37maybe we'll think about it recommendations recommendations i i didn't do i'm a terrible
01:18:42self-publicist so i didn't do this i forgot the other week but i was on the judge the 2000 ad
01:18:48thrill cast fun uh podcast a couple of weeks ago where i talk wrestling and comic books and sort of
01:18:54similarities between them and they wanted to talk to me about wrestling and all i wanted to talk
01:18:59about was judge dread so it's a bit of back and forth on that so it's only half an hour you can
01:19:05go and watch it on their 2000 ad thrill cast youtube channel so please go check that out shows
01:19:10shows them that i'm cool and can bring an audience and maybe they'll invite me back on because i do i do
01:19:16just like talking about judge dread yeah i mean that's why you do collabs right is that you send
01:19:20people across to their thing but that that was going to be a lead into my actual proper recommendation
01:19:26which is judge dread i feel like not enough people talk about judge dread everyone's like oh my god i
01:19:32love the dread movie people are always talking about that have they ever read a judge dread comic no
01:19:37probably not so go and buy the safe that's the the small house the small house collection it's a
01:19:46judge dread story drawn by henry flynn who's my favorite judge dread artist written by rob williams
01:19:52who's my favorite judge dread writer and it is just a sort of conspiracy spy whole mega city one
01:20:03sino city thriller and it's fantastic it's only 110 pages it is like it's a speed read so if you want
01:20:10to get into judge dread go read that check it out come back to me i'll give you more what did you
01:20:15say the artist name was henry flint sorry the writer's name rob williams oh i loved angels
01:20:20i don't get it rob williams robby oh right when you said angels weirdly my mind went to the buffy
01:20:29spit well no no one likes that uh but yet that's uh i've been reading the safe house the small house
01:20:35sorry this week sorry i had to get my phone to make sure that i was um uh getting my
01:20:41recommendation for you correct it's a band that are called dr colossus you're all about the music
01:20:49right now and i'm all about the comics so dr colossus are a doom band um if you like a bit of
01:20:55doom metal which which i often what's doom metal what's very sludgy uh which i which i quite enjoy
01:21:02but specifically dr colossus um some people might like that sounds like a simpsons reference
01:21:06it is because they are a simpsons themed doom of band and i will recommend their 2021 album
01:21:13i'm a stupid moron with an ugly face and a big butt and my butt smiles and i like to kiss my own butt
01:21:17so that's my recommendation yeah you got both your little bits in there didn't you simpsons and
01:21:24and metal sludge metal well thank you very much please go to patreon.com forward slash wrestle talk
01:21:30where there's loads more of us talking wrestling it could be old wrestling it could be new wrestling
01:21:34it could be video game wrestling it could be talking to our new friend rob van damme yeah it could be
01:21:41our other friend james storm yeah we're popular uh but for now i've been ollie davis this has been
