Howard Simon explains why he is concerned about the Bills moving forward this season.
Transcript
00:00Good to see you. It's time for you to pick the Bills off of two straight losses and a bye week.
00:05How's your mental state going into this pick?
00:08You mean into this game, it's not that bad.
00:11Okay.
00:12Into the season, I have some other thoughts.
00:13You've got some issues.
00:14Yeah, I do have some. I have some issues because the defense has problems at all three of its levels.
00:21And the offense, the passing game has become, you know, too easy to stop.
00:27I mean, it's just, it's not scary. What happened?
00:30That doesn't mean they can't win games. It doesn't mean they won't make the playoffs.
00:34But in terms of, you know, where this team has been and its ability to try and get to a Super Bowl,
00:40I mean, how could you project that now with all the problems they have?
00:44And that's the other thing, too. I know you were, where's the solution for the passing game?
00:48Right? We all want to see big plays, explosive plays, throw the ball downfield, let Josh wing it.
00:54Where's the solution? It's not on the roster.
00:56So is Brandon Bean going to be able to get somebody?
00:59Does he even make a trade for a receiver within the next couple weeks?
01:02The one thing about, you know, the GM and the criticism toward the GM,
01:06if these Hairston Hoyt, Ogunjobi pieces, if the defense comes back together and turns out to be a good defense,
01:14we could say, all right, well, the receivers, this was the conversation after the draft,
01:20I didn't get receivers because it was the defense.
01:22If he actually does fix the defense...
01:24Well, then it's more of a complimentary football team.
01:26Sure. Then, of course, like, all right, well, not everybody has to agree with the way that they did it,
01:30but there'd be a reason to do it.
01:31If the defense is still bad, and the offense can't do the things it used to be able to do,
01:36then all of a sudden it looks like, what are we doing this for?
01:38Well, that's why, but it's hard. I hope you're right.
01:41But historically, in recent seasons, the Bills will live and die on what?
01:47Their offense.
01:49Well, actually, I shouldn't say that. They die in the playoffs because of their defense.
01:52And because their offense has the ball late in games and doesn't score a touchdown or a field goal.
01:55And apparently he's becoming a little bit more conservative again in his decisions to go for it,
02:00whether or not on fourth down.
02:01Atlanta was a bad one.
02:02Yeah, so there are a lot of things that are troubling because the offense will drive this football team.
02:07If teams are now saying, hey, you know what, we're just going to do everything we can to stop James Cook,
02:12you go ahead and beat us over the top.
02:14And if they can't do it, what are we in business for, folks?
02:17Like, that doesn't bode well.
