00:00The annual red crab migration is officially in motion on Christmas Island.
00:05Every year, millions of crabs make the journey from the forest to the ocean to breed.
00:11Each female crab can produce up to 100,000 eggs.
00:16Despite this, many of the babies don't survive,
00:20often eaten by fish, manta rays or whale sharks whilst they are larvae.
00:25In most years, very few baby crabs will emerge from the ocean.
00:28In fact, it's only once or twice a decade that a large number of baby crabs survive,
00:34according to the Christmas Island National Park.
00:37During the peak migration, road closures are in place to protect the crabs.
00:41As you can see, there is no stopping these little red crabs everywhere.
