The annual red crab migration is officially in motion on Christmas Island.
00:05
Every year, millions of crabs make the journey from the forest to the ocean to breed.
00:11
Each female crab can produce up to 100,000 eggs.
00:16
Despite this, many of the babies don't survive,
00:20
often eaten by fish, manta rays or whale sharks whilst they are larvae.
00:25
In most years, very few baby crabs will emerge from the ocean.
00:28
In fact, it's only once or twice a decade that a large number of baby crabs survive,
00:34
according to the Christmas Island National Park.
00:37
During the peak migration, road closures are in place to protect the crabs.
00:41
As you can see, there is no stopping these little red crabs everywhere.
00:47
They are everywhere. I'm not joking. Look up there.
00:50
Look around here. Just don't stop on the little guys.
