00:57Ryan Rucco alongside Jay Billis.
00:58So happy to be with you for another
01:00season of the NBA on ESPN.
01:03Jay, you have the unique perspective
01:05of having watched several of Cooper
01:09Flagg's college games, broadcasting
01:11them, watching him in practice.
01:13What makes this 18-year-old so special?
01:15You know, he's truly a special talent.
01:17And you start with his size, his skill
01:20level at both ends of the floor and his
01:22versatility.
01:23He's equally as good of a defender as
01:26he is an offensive player.
01:27He influences the game on both ends.
01:29But I think what really sets him apart is his
01:32competitive maturity.
01:34He's all about winning.
01:36A lot of players say that.
01:37But he's lived it throughout his 18 years
01:40on this planet.
01:41It's hard to believe he's only 18 years
01:42old.
01:43But he doesn't go into a game trying to
01:44get numbers.
01:45He wants to make the right play on this
01:47play.
01:48And he just stacks the right play over
01:50and over again.
01:51And he's going to have his ups and downs
01:53like every rookie.
01:54But going in your first game and having
01:56to match up at times against Victor
01:58Wimbanyama, that's quite a welcome to
01:59the NBA he's going to get tonight.
02:01Yeah, he said everybody talked about
02:03how Wemby is something you can only
02:05understand once you're on the floor
02:08playing against him.
02:10You'll have that opportunity tonight
02:12as Wemby gets ready to start year
02:14three.
02:15Let's take a look at tonight's starting
02:16lineups delivered by Taco Bell for
02:19the Spurs.
02:20Still without the Aaron Fox coming
02:23back from a hamstring injury.
02:25So you have Stephon Castle, Devin
02:27Vassell, Julian Champagny, Harrison
02:29Barnes and Victor Wimbanyama for the
02:33Mavericks.

02:36Washington, Anthony Davis and Derek
02:38Lively the second.
02:39And here's the interesting thing.
02:40You know, not only is Cooper Flagg
02:42making his debut, Jay, he is going
02:44to start at point guard for Jason
02:47Kidd.
02:48Really amazing.
02:49He can handle the ball.
02:50He'll be a lead guard, not just a point
02:52forward.
02:53But that puts P.J.
02:54Washington at the three with Anthony
02:56Davis at the four.
02:58So Lively and Wemby to jump it up.
03:01And the Spurs control the tip as we are
03:04underway in Dallas.
03:07And right away a steal from Flagg.

03:10Couldn't put it down.

03:12Would have been a heck of a highlight
03:13for his first NBA bucket.
03:14Dallas trying to establish itself as an
03:16elite defensive team and definitely on
03:17the front line they are just that.

04:50it.
04:51Davis fading away drops it in.
04:54That is an unblockable shot for
04:59Anthony Davis.
05:01He has looked really good in the
05:04preseason.
05:05Here's Vassell swooping in left it

05:13is going to get called for the goal

05:16Washington just drop that shoulder
05:19and since the fond castle into the

05:22But all you have to do when Victor

05:26can slow the ball down he can still
05:28get there and swoop in with those
05:30long arms.
05:31It was a cold time but you know he's
05:34there.
05:35One of the most incredible Wemby
05:37stats from last year Jay he led the
05:40league in total blocks playing just
05:42forty six games.
05:44Here is Wemby the long strides
05:46couldn't bank it in and then Davis
05:48comes down with the rebound.

13:37He just talked about how he's so
13:38intentional with a variety of
13:40ways that he tries to improve as

13:44He's constantly just trying to
13:45push himself out of his comfort
13:47zone and learn new things and
13:48apply them to the game of
13:50basketball.

25:46but that's when you need to get low

25:52so the third foul on Cornette as

25:57it's the first free throw

26:04it was Wimbanyama making his
26:07hotly anticipated debut against
26:10Dallas and Derek Lively
26:13actually kind of stole the show
26:15making his debut in that game
26:18well Lively was undervalued
26:20coming out after his freshman year
26:22he came out of high school injured
26:24so he got off to a really slow start
26:26and he was the number one high
26:27school player in the country
26:28coming into his freshman year
26:29and I remember getting phone calls
26:30from colleagues in my gone this is
26:31the number one player and he's
26:33hurt but give him a little bit of
26:34time
26:35and toward the end of the year he
26:36wound up taking Duke to the
26:37final four he makes huge piece
26:39flag comes up with a steal
26:43Russell wide open can't hit
26:47when Minyama snatches the rebound
26:50he went right over the top of
26:52Derek Lively like he was a sixth
26:53grader
26:54that's unbelievable
26:56eight foot wingspan on seven seven
