00:30The talented Andrew Nembhard, he's now the starting point guard for the Pacers,
00:35with Tyrese Halliburton out for the season with the Achilles injury.
00:39And good evening, everyone, with Richard Jefferson and Tim Legler,
00:42Mike Green on hand, Katie George with us as well as the NBA's opening week continues.
00:47Of course, for the Thunder and the Pacers, it's time to put that in the past
00:50and move on to this season.
00:52And that's exactly what OKC did on Tuesday night.
00:55We saw in the double overtime victory against Houston,
00:58a lot of the things that made them champions,
01:00including the continued growth of Chet Holmgren.
01:03Oh, Chet Holmgren, Mike, is one of the best two-way players in this league.
01:07If not for his injury early last season, I truly believe he would have been an all-star.
01:12He affects the game on both ends of the floor.
01:14You see him against Jokic there.
01:16He has a great ability to play off of their other bigs.
01:19But more importantly, his ability to stretch the floor and knock down three.
01:24That's where he really opens it up for this offense.
01:27If the OKC Thunder are going to repeat, large in part is going to be
01:31because of the continued growth and development of Chet Holmgren.
01:35And Holmgren looking so good the other night in that picture.
01:38You are for the Pacers.
01:39This is going to be a challenging season without their all-star, all-NBA point guard, Tyrese Halliburton.
01:44You need many to fill the void, but it's led by Pascal Siakam.
01:47Well, there's no doubt about it.
01:48Look, this Pacers team you see tonight won't look exactly like the team that you saw in the NBA Finals.
01:53But one thing that's going to look exactly the same, the versatility of Pascal Siakam.
01:58This is still one of the league's best all-around players.
02:02And that versatility has never been more important to a Pacers team that doesn't have their engine.
02:07Tyrese Halliburton, look for Pascal Siakam to take advantage of matchups
02:12and to show you what he can do all over the court.
02:15Well, the 80th NBA regular season kicked off Tuesday night.
02:18OKC got great play from Holmgren.
02:21Katie George will speak with the Thunder big man when Courtside continues.
02:29NBA Courtside is presented by Michelob Ultra Zero.
02:33Zero alcohol, just 20.
02:38Halliburton pulls up, and it's a goal!
02:40Tyrese Halliburton does it again!
02:43Halliburton's hurt.
02:44Just sit to your stomach for the young man.
02:48Wilders Alexander clutch buckets from the NBA MVP.
02:51Storybook season is complete.
02:53The NBA champion resides in Oklahoma City.
02:56Welcome back to NBA Courtside, presented by Michelob Ultra.
03:02Memory's still fresh, but it's time to turn the page and move on to the 25-26 season.
03:08Chet Holmgren did that Tuesday night.
03:10Moments ago, Katie George spoke with Holmgren.
03:14Thanks, Mike.
03:15Chet, Tuesday night was such a fun celebration.
03:17What impressed you about the way you guys handled the moment and won in double overtime?
03:20You know, no matter what happened, you know, even though the game wasn't perfect, we never quit.
03:26We stayed at it, stuck together, and, you know, when you do that, you give yourself a chance to win.
03:31You guys spent a lot of time in this building over the summer.
03:34What made this such a competitive NBA Finals?
03:36The fact that it was two really good teams, two really good coaching staffs, two really good fan bases, and, you know, we both really wanted to win.
03:46How does no Tyrese Halliburton change what they do?
03:50Obviously, he's a really good player.
03:52You know, you never want to see somebody hurt.
03:54You always want to play against a team at their best, and they're...
03:58Close.
04:00At their best with him, and it kind of just changes the way they play.
04:05Obviously, he's a great passer, great shooter.
04:07So they have other guys that are going to step up, be more dangerous than normal, and, you know, we've got to be ready for that.
04:12Appreciate it, Chet.
04:13Thank you.

44:48And they still win 68.
44:51One of the great regular seasons in league history.
44:54Well, they did it mainly through their defense,
44:55and they really basically had the triple crown.
44:58They're not supposed to be able to do this defensively.
45:00Be number one in defending the paint,
45:01number one in defending the three-point line,
45:03and number one defending transition.
45:06You're not supposed to do all three of those things,
45:08and yet that's what it felt like to play against the Oklahoma City last year.
45:11Well, when you show graphics about their ranks in different positions defensively,
45:15it's already down the line, number one, number one, number one.
45:18That's not just...
45:19Yeah, there you go.
45:20Right on cue.
45:21Way to get him, Philly.
45:24That's ridiculous.
45:25When you talk about that's how you win 60-plus games,
45:29that's how you win an NBA championship,
45:31is you just have elite defense,
45:33and then you have, of course, the MVP.
45:37Last foul, by the way, was on Shepard, his second.
45:41Holmgren, nice spin move.
45:42Turned, shoots, can't get it to go.
45:48Matherin goes at Mitchell, trying to draw a foul.
45:53Nice outlet pass.
45:55Aaron Wiggins goes inside, blocked.
45:58Tony Bradley with a rejection.
45:59And Rick Carlisle said he was going to play all his centers,
46:04and he's got three of them in the game to this point,
46:06and they've all made contributions.
46:10Nismith, the fake.
46:12Kicks it out in the corner of the Matherin.
46:16Nismith comes up short.
46:18Siakam keeps it alive.
46:19If it gets another possession.
46:26Five on the 24.
46:28Siakam.
46:30With boxing out from Holmgren,
46:32Wiggins able to get the rebound easily.
46:38Wiggins deflected out of bounds by Nibhard.
46:41I know Aaron Neidhar, Andrew Neidhar.
46:45What's that again?
46:46I know, right.
46:47We're struggling.
46:47I know it's early, but they don't have all those dudes going around.
46:50That's what I'm saying.
46:50It's the Nismith, the Neidhar, it's been getting me.
46:53James Nismith, by the way, invented the game.
46:56Thank you for that.
46:56I appreciate that.
46:58I was waiting for Richard to say you were there when it happened.
47:02I just knew that was coming.
47:03He was a nice man.
47:04Mike called the first game.
47:06He was a very nice man.
47:08But he's 0 for 5.
47:09But he's got to maintain his aggressiveness.
47:10He can't just make it so easy on the defense and not be aggressive.
47:15Boy, talk about aggressive there.
47:17Almost a great block.
47:18Instead, a foul and Holmgren would go to the line.
47:25So, Rick Carlisle trying to figure stuff out with key guys out.
47:29He's played a lot already here in the first half.
47:31And if I'm Rick Carlisle right now, I'm pretty happy with where I'm at
47:34because they haven't shot the ball well from the three.
47:36The key against OKC is are you getting quality shots?
47:39Very few possessions in this half to this point have ended up with something
47:44forced late in the shot clock because they couldn't get anything.
47:47Their pace, their movement, the number of guys touching the ball in possessions,
47:51it's all working.
47:52They're just not making enough shots to really have a six, eight-point lead right now.
47:57Lumber knocks down a second.
47:59Tyrese Halliburton, he's having a good time sitting there on the bench.
48:05Just over three and a half remaining here in the second.
48:08And a pretty tenacious defense here in the first couple of quarters.
48:12Now we have another offensive foul.
48:15Matherin pushed off Lou Dorton.
48:17Matherin.
48:18A couple of Canadians going at it.
48:21From Montreal.
48:26Here we go.
48:27We've seen a number of illegal screens already in this one,
48:30and you see right there Matherin just clamping on to Lou Dorton.
48:35And you actually saw Obi Toppin sticking that chicken wing out, too,
48:39trying to get a piece of him on the screen.
48:40Lumber, a nice fake.
48:41Sets up Wiggins.
48:42Wide open three for Wiggins.
48:44Knocks it down.
48:46And a quick timeout from Rick Carlisle.
48:50Wiggins with the three.
48:52And a five-point lead for OKC late here in the second.

49:11Ernie Johnson in Atlanta.
49:13We're coming up.
49:14It's the halftime show presented by the Hyundai Palisade.
49:17Charles, Kenny, and Shaq here to break down the first half from the field house.
49:22As we get it back to Mike, RJ, Legs, and Katie.
49:26Thank you, Ernie.
49:27Boy, we're still getting used to Ernie and the gang being on the same team.
49:32Is there anybody in our business that has more universal admiration and respect than Ernie Johnson?
49:38Don't think so, man.
49:39Nope.
49:40It's literally every single person you come across, and we've all got an opportunity to be around Ernie.
49:46It's an honor to have him toss it to us, isn't it?
49:49It is.
49:49Of all the people that I've ever worked with in this industry, he is the person that I look up to the most.
49:54He looked me dead in the eye and then glanced at you as he said that.
49:59Walker against Wiggins.
50:04Well defended by Wiggins.
50:07How many times do you say that about either of these two teams?
50:10Two terrific defensive teams.
50:12Toppen.
50:12Holmgren got a piece of the ball, it appeared, but also apparently a piece of the arm.
50:16That's two fouls on Holmgren.
50:18That's unfortunate, too, for Chet because he couldn't have played that any better.
50:21I mean, he went out hard on the closeout on the pump fake on the three, and you're thinking OB Toppen's going to get by him.
50:28He couldn't.
50:29Recovers, plays him well, and then just a little aggressive on that contest, and you're going to get some contact at the end.
50:34This is as good as you can do it as a big man.
50:36Slides, cuts him off, fully extended, but then gets the contact on the release.
50:40He was telling Josh Tivin that it was a high-five defensive play.
50:46Tivin said, no, you got him on the wrist, but you knew that he didn't turn.
50:49You notice he didn't turn to the bench and signal the challenge.
50:55We've seen less calls for challenges in our first couple of games.
50:59Normally, every other play, players are kind of waving that finger.
51:03That's a good observation.
51:04It usually happens on almost every foul call.
51:06Every single play.
51:08Thunder by three.
51:10Mitchell at the home draft.
51:16Crowd wanted to travel.
51:18Martin Stein, five on the 24.
51:21Dildis Alexander, left-handed.
51:24Just rolls off from him.
51:25Now, put up a...
51:26Some shot if it went down.
51:28Nimar pushes, kicks it out.
51:31Neesmith, corner three.
51:34Neither team shooting well from three-point range.
51:36One-four for 17.
51:38And one-four for 14.
51:40It's OKC that second number.
51:42But Gildas Alexander knocks down the 15-footer.
51:4418 first-half points on five of seven from the field.
51:54Nimar inside the top of it.
51:58I think Gildas Alexander may have taken a roll and knocking that away.
52:02And one-on-one against Walker.
52:16Left-handed shot short, but a foul.
52:18Daris Walker's going to pick up his first.
52:22And this will be free throws number 16 and 17 for OKC.
52:25So, for Chad Holmgren, obviously, he's got the size, the length.
52:28He's not going to back down people.
52:30But what's key is for him to get to his spot.
52:33Get to his footwork where he gets comfortable.
52:36I think he could post up more.
52:38Not necessarily trying to bang people, but getting yourself in a good position.
52:42And then just getting to your hook shot, your turnaround jumper.
52:44It could be so simple.
52:45We're talking to Mark Dignall about improvements on different guys in the team.
52:52And he said from day one, he said Holmgren was a different player.
52:55This is coming off a championship that worked so hard in the offseason.
52:58He said his strength and his sharpness.
53:01He's as self-motivated as any player he has.
53:06Let's go to Katie.
53:07Well, Mike, he's also unbelievably competitive and vulnerable.
53:10He'll go up to block a shot and get punched on and it doesn't matter.
53:13He'll over dribble or he'll bite off a little.
