02:53Сп discourse the seven point lead.
02:58Castle.
03:00Trying to accelerate around Flagg.
03:02Stopped Harper.
03:03Hangs and hits.
03:05Boy, what a beautiful cut to present himself by Harper.
03:09Harper having a big finish to the half in his debut as Thompson loses it out of bounds.
03:15That's the seventh Dallas turnover.
03:17Third by Flagg.
21 points
03:45without hitting a three in that first half.
03:48Stay tuned for halftime, presented by Hyundai Palisade.
03:52Ernie, Kenny, Charles, and Shaq.
03:56Let's go, fellas, after these messages.
04:02Mavericks.
04:03But I'm sure a few million things will pop up.
04:05What did you say?
04:08Did you say something about Siri or what's going on?
04:11I said the kid wasn't playing tomorrow, and she started talking.
04:15Listen, man.
04:16I'm glad it cut off.
04:17No, it's off.
04:19The Dallas Mavericks trying to outthink everybody,
04:22think they're the smartest dude in the world
04:24and realize it's just basketball.
04:26They need a point guard.
04:27First of all, Cooper Flagg, he only got two attempts.
04:29That's telling me, like, why has he only got two attempts?
04:32Because they got him trying to initiate the offense.
04:35Man, start DeAngelo Russell to Kyrie comeback.
04:38These guys always want to act like they're like,
04:41let's reinvent the wheel.
04:43Man, this basketball, you push it,
04:46then you run your offense in the half court.
04:49I don't know what they're doing.
04:50They didn't even put Cooper Flagg in a position to be successful.
04:54Yeah, I'm not going to run to the board
04:55because we're running out of time.
04:57But I've been a point guard.
05:00And your obligations and your job description starts with
05:04distribute your basketball, get back on D, defend the perimeter,
05:09and the last thing is you have ten eyes on you.
05:13So right now, I don't want him to do any of those five.
05:17I'd rather him be on the other end,
05:20where he's the recipient of finishing the basketball,
05:24cutting to the basketball, and offensive rebounding.
05:27Because right here, I'd rather have this,
05:29someone passing to him instead of him.
05:32Ten eyes are on him, and he has to give up the basketball.
05:35I'd rather that be him instead of ten eyes on him all the time.
05:39None of the things that a point guard does,
05:42I would want to be a diet for Cooper Flagg.
05:46Cutting to the rim, offensive rebounds, slicing,
05:50penetration off the dribble.
05:52Those are the things that he's going to be great at in his NBA career.
05:55I think this is good for him because, again,
05:57we all know the pressure's not on him.
05:59Listen, they can take their time with him.
06:01Just experiment and say, okay, you can do this, you can do that.
06:04You don't want to put a lot of pressure on the kid.
06:06Have him bring the ball up, let him get comfortable.
06:08Because, you know, we all give rookies that one-year grace.
06:11So, right now, there's just experiment.
06:13Like they said, in November when Kyrie comes back.
06:15Oh, yeah.
06:16But they can't wait until Kyrie.
06:18Whenever Kyrie comes back, they want to get well.
06:20Probably January at the early.
06:22But they need – he's not a point guard.
06:25He's never played point guard in his life.
06:27He's a terrific passer, but he's a hell of a basketball player.
06:31Why has he passed the ball – other than Anthony Davis,
06:34he passed the ball to dudes that ain't good as him.
06:36Okay, but would you say that the point guard position is easier now?
06:42Because all he's doing is two or three dribbles, like you said, Kenny.
06:44Yeah, but we don't want him passing dudes that ain't good as him.
06:47I want dudes to pass the ball to me.
06:50I mean, well, that's what most teams do anyway.
06:52No, but he should not be playing the point.
06:55Okay.
06:55He's passing to inferior scorers at times.
06:58That's what most teams do.
06:59Guys hold the ball to the last possible second shot clock.
07:02Hey, the Mav needs to put – they need a point guard.
07:05Hey, Goodwill, don't give those clothes away just yet.
07:08Yes.
07:08We're coming back with more on the Halftime Report
07:10presented by the Hyundai Palisade in just a minute.
07:15Hey, Goodwill, keep Chuck's suit.
07:16Just keep – and keep the number.
07:18To at least after Christmas.
07:19To at least after Christmas.
07:20Please.
07:22Who do we need to convince to make Chuck's iPhone
07:25the new fifth member of the desk?
07:27I want to know who's serious on Cooper.
07:30When I say, what are you doing tomorrow, it's starting to answer.
07:35Stay away from technology, Chuck, sir.
07:37I'm glad you're doing something nice.
07:39That's all I'm saying.
07:42Welcome back to NBA Wednesday presented by State Farm.
07:47The Spurs fired up at the end of that second quarter.
07:50They outscore the Mavs 32-22 in the frame of a nine-point lead
07:55as we get ready to start the second half.
07:57Take a look at our first half stats brought to you by Coles.
08:00Free throw line a problem for San Antonio, but the paint, yeah, certainly not.
08:05And Wemby with 14 of those 30 in the paint as we welcome you courtside.
08:11Ryan Rugo alongside Jay Billis.
08:14I mean, Victor Wempanyama just totally stealing the show in that first half.
08:18I mean, he was dominant at 21 points, eight rebounds, blocked a shot.
08:21His presence in the paint was fantastic.
08:25And he really, he's fouling guys, putting him in position to foul guys out.
08:30I mean, Anthony Davis had four fouls in the first half.
08:32Derek Lively had three.
08:34And that really limits Dallas' ability to protect the paint.
08:38And A.D. started two for two, but was one for his last 11.
08:42And when Wempanyama has three fouls himself,
08:45Davis does start the second half on the floor.
08:49His flag is finally on the board.
08:53Those are the first points in the career of Cooper Flagg.
08:59Ran something for him right away just to get him going.
09:03And even if he's going to initiate and play a point,
09:05he's got to be more aggressive once he's off the ball.
09:09It's awfully difficult for him to generate something initially
09:12when he's got Stephon Castle darting him and getting underneath him.
09:17Flagg with some haste.
09:19Surges and gets denied by Wempanyama.
09:23Rively then nearly took it away from Wempanyama.
09:26Instead, it's Fussell going up high to throw that down from Castle.
09:31Well, you think you have an advantage situation,
09:34and Victor Wempanyama turns it into an advantage for the Spurs.
09:37Flagg aggressive, missed that one.
09:41He just got manhandled by Castle.
09:45Flagg clearly coming out firing here.
09:49After he took just two shots in the first half,
09:54San Antonio turns it over.
09:57Flagg playing.
09:59Just setting his little split screen when the ball goes into the post,
10:02then comes right off.
10:04And you go underneath, he pulls up for that jumper.
10:07That's where he has to be more aggressive.
10:09Once he gives it up, then he's got to be a scorer.
10:11He can initiate, but he's got to be an aggressive scorer
10:15once he picks it up, or gives it up, excuse me.
10:17He's got to be a scorer.
10:19Here's Thompson.
10:20Clay drops it in.
10:21He's got to be a scorer.
10:22He's got to be a scorer.
10:23He's got to be a scorer.

13:32So Kyrie Irving directing traffic, everybody lauding the leadership of Kyrie, even as he has been out.
13:44We were talking before about Jason Kidd being encouraged by Kyrie's progress coming back from the torn ACL.
13:50He said he's doing a lot of the non-contact stuff with us.
13:55He puts incredible shooting, passing, running, said, you know, we're going to have to make sure we don't push too hard over the next few weeks.
14:07Around Thanksgiving time, things could get interesting.
14:11Castle leaves it short.
14:14Rebound lands with Davis.
14:15I thought he'd go into the body as Derek Lander.
14:17They're trying to pick up another foul.
14:21Davis elevates, can't finish.
14:23Another rebound for Wembenyama is 10.
14:26It's poked to the face.
14:27Lively picked up another one there.
14:29Yeah, and that is going to be the fifth on Lively.
14:39That's a rebound oftentimes, you know, you can go for, but with Wembenyama, you're not getting it.
14:46And if you're Lively already with four fouls, that one you've got to let go.
14:50Yeah, it's a risk not worth taking.
14:52But, you know, you don't think much of it at the time, but this is when you start looking back and saying you can't pick up screening fouls.
14:59Yeah, like those are cheap ones that can put you in a bind.
15:02Wembenyama is going to the line as Najee Marshall just spreading out his arms helplessly.
15:09Yeah, he had to switch out.
15:09When there was that little action, Anthony Davis, he switched off.
15:16And Wembenyama is just going to take that on because he can shoot over.
15:20But the aggressiveness of getting into the paint, instead of settling for a three, he gets into the paint and draws a foul.
15:42Like he's been living at the free throw line.
15:44This was not really the case for him last year.
15:46Yeah, as we talked about, 47% of his field goal attempts last year were from three.
15:51And we asked Mitch Johnson, is this a conscious effort?
15:54Just seeing the way the shot distribution changed in the preseason.
15:58And he said, first of all, Victor's just on that natural strength and growth trajectory.
16:05He's only 21 years old, third year in the league.
16:07Of course, he's going to get stronger as he's aging and playing against men.
16:12He said, and then also, yeah, we're trying to be smart about the areas on the floor where we know he can be most efficient.
16:19Thompson.
16:20So, Davis, good position, couldn't hang on.
16:23Wemby has the last eight for San Antonio.
16:30He has 29 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks.
16:34His first regular season game in eight months.
16:41Wemby Nyama fakes the three, dazzles, spins, fades.
16:47Why not?
16:49He's got everything.
16:50There's the step through.
16:53Who's stepping out to the corner?
16:55And off one leg, able to kiss it in off the glass.
17:00Just spectacular.
17:06Timeout on the floor.
17:08Wemby already with his 25th career 30-point game.
17:14Good luck.
17:14ESPN Bet is the sportsbook for sports fans.

17:26Let's take a look at who's getting buckets.
17:28Brought to you by KFC.
17:30Jay.
17:31It's been all Victor Wemby Nyama.
17:3423 minutes he's played in this game.
17:3731 points, 10 rebounds, and he's got three blocked shots.
17:43He's just picked up his fourth foul.
17:45But Victor Wemby Nyama has been beyond spectacular.
17:49To put up this stat line in that few minutes, ridiculous.
17:54Second player franchise history, 30 and 10.
17:57And a season opener, Tim Duncan, the other.
17:59Flag surges in.
18:01Can't finish it.
18:02What a great contest by Cornette.
18:06Masell able to weave his way to the hoop.
18:09He mentioned it.
18:10Wemby with the four fouls now on the bench for San Antonio.
18:14Wemby has also put fouls on the entire Dallas front line.
18:20Anthony Davis playing with four.
18:22Derek Lively on the bench with five.
18:23D.J. Washington has three as that goes out of bounds.
18:28And Mitch Johnson fired up the defense there from Champagny.
18:33Did a nice job of trying to blow up that handoff.
18:37And just stayed between his man and the basket to start.
18:41And didn't give up on the play.
18:42Not conceding anything.
18:45Cornette into the game.
18:46He, too, has three fouls.
18:49Here comes Washington.
18:53Lost the handle out of bounds.
18:55And Dallas turns it over for an 11th time.
19:00Anthony Davis has been on the glass.
19:03He's got 11 rebounds.
19:04He's three of 14 in this game.
19:06He got off to a really good start at 10 early points.
19:11Masell clings it out.
19:19Masell clings it out of bounds.
19:21Masell clings it out of bounds.
19:22And that's going to be a goaltend.
19:26Stephon Castle has played with a great burst tonight.
19:3015 points, six rebounds, five assists.
19:34He's so compact and strong.
19:36Gave that little jab step to the baseline.
19:38Then he just exploded middle.
19:40And now comes up with another steal.
19:42Castle twists into two.
19:45Fuss the foul.
19:46Stephon Castle taking over.
19:51Last year's Rookie of the Year.
19:54He is not relying just on his offense.
19:56He has been excellent defensively.
19:58Staying in front, down in a stance.
20:01Again, with another deflection.
20:03Reading the passer.
20:05And getting that hand into the passing lane.
20:07Almost a jump to the ball type move.
20:10And turning defense into offense.
20:13What a spectacular game.
20:15I mean, Wimbledon Yama's going to take all the headlines.
20:18But Castle has been outstanding.
20:2117 points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals.
20:27And a lane violation here.
20:35As Castle's going to get to shoot another free throw.
20:38The only thing that's been off for Castle tonight is the free throw shooting.
20:42Yeah, just for the Spurs in general.
20:43Yeah.
20:43Castle is 4-for-10 from the line.
20:49The Spurs are 12-for-22.
20:52Never understood why on a lane violation you get another free throw.
20:59You should get the ball.
21:00Oh, I like that.
21:04The non-violating team to get the ball.
21:11Castle gets another deflection there.
21:1511-0 Spurs run.
21:16And Russell flings it out.
21:21Davis brings in a three.
21:25Devin Bissell did all he could there just to get some pressure on it.
21:28Almost got a piece of that ball.
21:3615 for Davis.
21:37His first three of the night.
21:38Here's Castle launching.
21:44Back iron and off.
21:46Cornette taps it.
21:47Bissell snares it.
21:49Cornette goes to the offensive glass every single time.
21:53Here's Castle leaving for Cornette.
21:55Denied by Davis.
22:04Davis can't finish.
22:06Didn't get the whistle.
22:07Cornette is perplexed.
22:09He wanted it, but that was offense-initiated contact there.
22:12Cornette was in solid position.
22:18Castle, the crossover.
22:21And Davis, the breakup.
22:24Russell finds Washington.
22:27Flag on the follow.
22:28Couldn't get it to drop.
22:30San Antonio's got numbers.
22:33Cornette gives it back.
22:37He's going to shoot three free throws.
22:40He just can't foul a three-point shooter they're trailing.
22:42He just can't foul a three-point shooter they're trailing.
22:48Some of the fouls that Dallas has picked up.
22:50They've left their feet.
22:50And there's just no reason after the ball's released to go into the body at Julian Champagne.
22:55Cooper flag, one for nine, thus far from the floor in his debut, two points, nine rebounds.
23:10Jay, he had an incredible preseason.
23:15Obviously, the anticipation for this young man who's only 18 years old is wild.
23:21How about him running the point?
23:23How much more does that put on his plate as he tries to get his feet wet at this level?
23:29A lot, especially when you're having to handle the ball and try to initiate offense against DeFont Castle.
23:34Because Castle's such an outstanding defender.
23:37He can get up underneath him and he's got deflections.
23:41But flag just needs to be more aggressive once he gives it up.
23:44Look, it's not an easy assignment, not just to run the point at age 18 in any NBA game.
23:56But then you've got Victor Wimbanyama protecting the basket.
23:59So even if you do get past Castle, you've got to deal with Wimbanyama around the hole.
24:04Wimbanyama on the bench has 31-10, three blocks as well.
24:17Davis, again, and a timeout taken by Mitch Johnson.
24:23Anthony Davis starting to get going a little bit as the last six for Dallas.
24:28Third quarter action in the season opener.
24:30The NBA have announced Rookie Debut Patches,
24:36which is a patch worn on the jersey of every player making their NBA debut.
24:40After the game, the patch will be removed and sent to Topps for insertion into a one-of-one card,
24:46meaning only one card in the world will feature the patch.
24:49The Topps NBA Rookie Debut Patch cards,
24:51which will eventually be pulled at random by a collector.
24:55Pretty cool.
24:56All we got back in the day was that horrifying bubble gum
25:00that came in the package of baseball and basketball cards.
25:04Perpetually stale.
25:06As Johnson hooks it in.
25:10Really good back cut by Kelton Johnson.
25:13There was just no pressure on Luke Cornett making that fast.
25:15How patient do you think the audience is being right now with Wemby on the bench?
25:24Yeah, you think, well, Mitch Johnson's got a lot on his mind.
25:27It's not just the game tonight, but his son Johnny is playing in a seven-year-old Little League playoff game.
25:34Yeah, they have a play-in.
25:35Play-in.
25:36Yeah, it's the seven-years-old.
25:37The 7-10, the seven-year-old game.
25:39That's right.
25:40Good luck to Johnny.
25:42Hope they make it into the playoffs through the play-in.
25:44Hardee gets maybe partially deflected.
25:52Comes up short.
25:54Castle lost it.
25:55Pops into the arms of Harper.
25:57Flag comes down with a rebound.
25:59He's been on the glass.
26:00Ten boards for Cooper Flagg.
26:05Here's Flagg flipping it up and in.
26:08Aggressive take for Cooper Flagg, the second field goal of the night.
26:13A little bit different getting in the lane without Wemby Nyama in the game.
26:17He just had a matchup he could overpower.
26:20Johnson connects on the corner three.
26:24What a hook pass by Stephon Castle to find Johnson in the left corner.
26:28Oh, it's overpowering.
26:30Oh, it's overpowering.
26:30Castle now with six assists to go with his six boards and 18 points.
26:34Flagg fading.
26:36Ben's hitting.
26:38Back-to-back buckets for the number one overall pick, Cooper Flagg.
26:43Mitch Johnson putting his arms out saying, hey, slow down a little bit.
26:47Let's just run good offense.
26:52Harper.
26:52Harper, nasty footwork.
26:55What a beautiful pivot and move with a right hand.
27:00He can score with either hand around the basket.
27:03That's the talent he's got.
27:05Ten points now for the number two overall pick, Dylan Harper.
27:09Williams denied by Cornette.
27:12Here comes Castle with numbers in the corner.
27:14Champagny.
27:16Too much on it.
27:17Johnson got fouled.
27:20No.
27:20He got away with a push first.
27:22Yeah.
27:22He's in position to wedge rebound, but just, that was a two-handed push.
27:32He got away with it.
27:36San Antonio ball.
27:38They've outscored Dallas 31-19 in the third.
27:41He's in!
27:44Minyama on his feet.
27:46Cheerleader for the back half of this quarter.
27:48Cornette couldn't flush it down.
27:51O'Bourg Champagny.
27:58Castle, loose handle.
27:59Powell comes up with it and throws it away.
28:02Bodies hit the floor, and Flagg diving after it.
28:08It's going to be a jump ball.
28:12One of the things Jason Kidd emphasized, which was the way that Flagg consistently hits the floor.
28:17And, San Antonio just not giving up on these plays.
28:21It looked like Kelton Johnson got a little finger on that ball as it was being passed out to start the break.
28:27Now, fans may have noticed Sean Sweeney, who is standing right next to Mitch Johnson.
28:43He is now the associate head coach for the San Antonio Spurs.
28:47He had been with the Dallas Mavericks the last several years as one of Jason Kidd's top assistants.
28:54He was with Jason in Milwaukee as well.
28:58And now here in San Antonio, part of this Spurs coaching staff with Mitch Johnson.
29:03Flagg off under it and in.
29:07Big time bucket from Cooper Flagg.
29:10And mom and dad love it.
29:12But Kelton Johnson was coming from behind, and Flagg just went to the other side of the bucket to make that play.
29:18Flagg starting to find a little rhythm here in this third.
29:23Six points over the last couple minutes.
29:25Yes, Vassell.
29:27No.
29:29Rebound Johnson, and again, second chance opportunity for San Antonio.
29:35Kelton Johnson's done a really good job on the glass.
29:39Six boards off the bench.
29:42Flagg fires.
29:44Can't hit.
29:45Saw the clock, thought about the two for one.
29:49With just about a one-and-a-half-second difference game in shot clock.
29:55Yeah.
30:01Harper waiting.
30:03Ornepsen's a dunker spot for an offensive rebound.
30:07Harper gets denied.
30:08Washington the block.
30:10Christie.
30:12No.
30:14And that will do it for the third.
30:16San Antonio, a 21-point lead after three.
30:20But Flagg starting to get moving a little.
30:22Он использовал his strength, little jab, step to get the baseline,
30:26went to the other side of the rim
30:27to avoid getting that shot blocked by Keldon Johnson.
30:39United States Farm, the Spurs leading 93-72 over the Mavs.
30:45I spoke earlier to Josh Broghammer, Dallas assistant coach,
30:49and asked him about San Antonio taking the lead going into the half at that particular time.
30:53And it's interesting because the stuff he told me at halftime, guys,
30:56is still stuff that's plaguing Dallas right now.
30:59He said that besides the foul trouble,
31:01they've had sloppy execution in regards to offense with their shot selection and turnovers,
31:06and that allowed the Spurs to get in transition and get easy buckets,
31:09and added that they had to do a better job of taking care of the ball
31:12to force the Spurs to play in the half court.
31:14And they've done none of that, really, in that third quarter, Jay and Ryan.
31:18Yeah, no, it's a great point, George.
31:20Certainly still struggle with that as Davis can hit the three.
31:24And San Antonio's just dominated the paint, 48-22 advantage.
31:29Harper hops in and curls it home.
31:31The number two pick able to score around the number one pick flat.
31:36Well, San Antonio's been able to disrupt any kind of rhythm
31:39that Dallas could establish.
31:43And basketball's a game of rhythm.
31:45You know, establish yours and disrupt theirs.
31:48And San Antonio's done a good job of both of those things in this game.
31:53Wembenyama sat for the back half of that third quarter after his dazzling start to it.
31:58Picked up his fourth foul and was on the bench.
32:01Here's Wembe.
32:01Wow.
32:03Just perpetual arms from Victor Wembenyama.
32:09Well, this came right down the lane as a trailer, got that little flip pass.
32:14That's a high-percentage shot.
32:16No wonder he wants to hang out in the paint a little more often.
32:1933 for Wembenyama.
32:22Jay, he takes off from different places.
32:24You need to think, can he reach the rim?
32:25And the answer is just always yes.
32:26The answer is yes.
32:26Yeah.
32:29Dallas started off in a 2-3 zone.
32:35But the initial penetration off this Rickey, Anthony Davis goes and tries to stop the penetration.
32:45And Wembenyama just trailed behind him and Harper found him.
32:49That's going to be a great pick-and-roll tandem.
32:53Because Harper, as he matures, is such a good reader of pick-and-roll situations.
32:58Barnes rims out.
33:01And look at Harper attacking the glass.
33:04Trying to grab that over Davis.
33:07Got him for the foul.
33:08Yep.
33:08Dylan Harper's been impressive in his minutes tonight in his debut.
33:1412 points, 4 rebounds, a couple of assists.
33:16He is not afraid of the moment.
33:20Such a talented player, but really smart with the way he makes reads and plays angles.
33:27In their preseason game against Indiana, they had a little exchange up top where it was going to be a dribble handoff.
33:35He read the defense, kept it, and when he gets downhill, he can really make plays.
33:43Thompson, mid-range, short.
33:46Well, you don't want to give that shot up, but what Devin Vassell at least did was run Clay Thompson off a three-point line in the corner.
33:53Made it a two instead of a three.
33:54San Antonio, still without De'Aaron Fox.
34:01Getting close to playing five-on-five.
34:03Coming back from a hamstring injury.
34:05Suffered in his workouts.
34:08Harper can't hit.
34:1123 points, San Antonio lead.
34:15Flag gets fouled.
34:17Nearly popped it in with his left hand.
34:19As Harper picks up the personal.
34:22Yeah, just a smart play.
34:24He knew he had the angle.
34:27They're going to say side out here.
34:30Which Cooper Flagg was in disagreement with.
34:35They said the foul came before a gather on the drive.
34:40Here's McLaughlin being chased from behind.
34:44Still able to lay it in.
34:45Really alert play by McLaughlin.
34:49You had drop coverage by Wembenyama.
34:51You're worried about him coming off the ball screen.
34:55And then McLaughlin just takes it away from him.
35:02Davis can't hit.
35:04Wembenyama, his 13th rebound.
35:09Wembenyama shakes, takes, and slams.
35:14Wembenyama shakes, and slams.
35:15It's absurd.
35:21You just can't fathom this.
35:22Like watching Tiger Woods hit a golf ball.
35:24If he were 7'5.
35:36He's got shake to his game.
35:38This is with the left hand.
35:41And just gets a little bit of an angle.
35:42You think you're angling him out toward the corner.
35:46And still he's able to go up over the top.
35:48Like Anthony Davis is an all defensive team guy.
35:53Like he's no joke.
36:00Flagg gets the free throw.
36:01Take a look at the upcoming national TV schedule.
36:03A little prime video tomorrow.
36:07Making their NBA debut.
36:10Celtics, Knicks, Timberwolves, Lakers.
36:12Peacock Monday.
36:13Cavs, Pistons, Nuggets, T-Wolves.
36:15For more on these games, please go to NBA.com or visit the NBA app.
36:18Amazon Friday.
36:22Tomorrow's Thursday, Jay.
36:23I'm catching up.
36:24You know, the start of the season.
36:31A little horn, spade, action.
36:32Wemby gets the castle.
36:37Castle over to Vassell.
36:39Lobbing it up.
36:40And Wemby Niyama completes the execution of a beautiful set.
36:44Well, that was a great play by Vassell just to make that catch.
36:47That could have been taken away by Clay Thompson.
36:49But he ran through the pass.
36:51Here's Ryan Neymar.
36:56Wemby Niyama almost got a piece of that one.
36:59As Davis lays it in, Mitch Johnson will take a timeout.
37:03Wemby up to 37 points on 14 of 20 from the floor.
37:09It's all Spurs.
37:13The NBA on ESPN is presented all season long by State Farm.
37:17Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.
37:1921 is Saturday in Abu Dhabi, highlighted by two title fights.
37:24The prelims begin at 10 a.m. Eastern with the main card at 2 Eastern on pay-per-view.
37:29Buy it at ESPNPlus.com slash PPV.
37:34Let's take a listen in to Mitch Johnson in an earlier huddle tonight.
37:40Possession by possession.
37:43Dismantle them in the half court.
37:45Play fast.
37:46Get back.
37:47Do it again.
37:48Be disciplined.
37:49To be disciplined.
37:51To like and embrace the boring.
37:54The mundane.
37:55The mundane.
38:06Strong message and his team has heated it.
38:09Barnes, twisting on the foul, it's castle.
38:23Another O-board.
38:25That was about as strong a huddle sound as it was.
38:30Yeah, Dallas needs to, they need to do a better job.
38:33I mean, you can't leave down the floor until you get the ball.
38:37I mean, that rebound hit the floor.
38:40And it's happened a couple times tonight, it feels like.
38:43I can't imagine, I mean, Mitch Johnson talking about embrace the boring, the mundane.
38:54I can't imagine this feels boring to San Antonio after the year they had last year.
38:59It's going to be able to be able to slink it through another whistle.
39:05And winning and playing at this level is not going to get boring.
39:11Watching number one isn't going to get boring either.
39:13There's no way you have to switch P.J. Washington with that foul trouble.
39:18It just goes right into his body at the end.
39:23That's part of the problem.
39:25It takes tremendous discipline.
39:28You're going to have to make some choices with one, but now, if you can get him to take a little fadeaway jumper, fadeaway, too, with some pressure.
39:35And you don't want to foul on these.
39:37It's going to be, what, his 11th or 12th free throw?
39:4011th.
39:41He's 8 or 10 so far.
39:42I think he averaged about 5 last year.
39:45And this is who he needs to be, where he's living at the foul line.
39:50Well, last year he averaged 8.8 three-point attempts and 4.1 free throw attempts.
39:58Tonight, and in the preseason we saw this as well, completely flipped.
40:0311 free throw attempts tonight.
40:04He's taken just two threes.
40:06Clearly in an awareness, an insistence, a confidence in his physical development to say, hey, I'm going to be taking it to the rim a whole lot.
40:19Yeah, and what's the most efficient thing?
40:21Where can you be the most effective?
40:23I mean, he's got 38 points.
40:24He's only taken two threes.
40:25Davis jumper won't go.
40:30Another rebound when Binyama is 14th to go with 38 points.
40:39Castle explodes to the rim.
40:42He saw that he had Ryan Nembhardt on him, and he just decided to overpower the rookie from Gonzaga.
40:4922 for Castle.
40:517 rebounds, 6 assists.
40:56Binyama's going to get the headline, and he should.
40:58But Stephon Castle has been a big part of this story.
41:03Washington can't push it in.
41:06Binyama.
41:08What is that?
41:09Rebound number 15.
41:10It is.
41:11Indeed.
41:12Two points shy of his fifth career 40-point game.
41:18Wemby.
41:19Spinning.
41:20Elevating.
41:21You bet!
41:23A 40-point opener for Victor Binyama.
41:28Max Christie had no shot there.
41:33There's no chance when he gets switched off on.
41:41Fifth 40-point game in Wemby's young career.
41:47And Mitch Johnson about ready to empty the bench.
41:52Castle dribbles it off his foot out of bounds.
41:55And that is likely going to be the end of the night for Victor Wemby-Binyama.
42:05What a show.
42:07And who knows how many changes of shots and disruptive plays he made defensively.
42:23Most points at a season opener in franchise history.
42:26It's been a fairly successful franchise, too.
42:30No kidding.
42:33Also, you know, you talked about, Jay, in the preseason, maybe partly because of that overzealousness being back, he turned it over a ton.
42:41He went through tonight without a single turnover.
42:43Just a remarkable performance.
42:45I mean, you knew when he came into the NBA, he had superstar written all over him.
42:56And he delivered on that promise very early.
42:58But now you're seeing a mature approach to the game that is absolutely stunning to watch.
43:07Can't be any fun to play against, but it's fun to watch.
43:10And Mitch Johnson will take a timeout.
43:164-0-4 to go in the fourth.
43:18Victor Wemby-Binyama with a season opener to remember.
43:27By the NBA, presented by American Express, Ernie, Kenny, Charles, and Shaq.
43:34We'll have a game breakdown with all the fun that only the inside the NBA crew can have.
43:42And our top two picks tonight, Dylan Harper, Cooper Flagg.
43:48Flagg started to get going a little bit in this second half after a tough start was won for his first nine.
43:54And Dylan Harper really looked good coming off the bench for San Antonio.
43:57Both are super talented.
43:59They're going to have great careers.
44:01This wasn't the kind of start that Cooper Flagg wanted on the scoreboard.
44:07Victor Wemby-Binyama, Stephon Castle.
44:10San Antonio's dominated in transition.
44:12There's 28-8 in fast-break points, and they've just dominated the paint.
44:19Victor Wemby-Binyama, a huge reason why.
44:21Stephon Castle as well.
44:2240, 15, and three blocks for Wemby.
44:26Castle with 22 points, seven rebounds, six assists.
44:3164-26.
44:33San Antonio's won that battle in the paint, Jay.
44:36Just too many turnovers and had a really difficult time running offense for Dallas.
44:42It's just a tough night all around, but you have to give San Antonio all the credit.
44:46Their defense and really their role players, if you want to use the term role player.
44:51Devin Vassell has had a really good game.
44:55I like Keldon Johnson coming off the bench.
44:57Did a great job on the glass defensively.
45:00He's had a number of different players that really stepped forward
45:04to really support Wemby-Binyama and Castle.
45:08How about when Fox comes back, Jay, and what that looks like for San Antonio,
45:15especially knowing, you know, they have Castle and Harper and their ball handling skills?
45:21Well, it'll be a different vision for this team.
45:24Now, you add in Aaron Fox with his speed and his clutch play.
45:32He makes so many clutch plays at the end of quarters, at the end of games.
45:39It just gives you another weapon.
45:45Benches have both been empty.
45:473.20 to go.
45:48Benches have both been empty and down in this fourth quarter.
45:59Nemar, a little floater, banks in.
46:03Ryan Nemar had six points in his NBA debut.
46:08Субтитры сделал Dillon.
46:38Субтитры сделал Dillon.
46:43One spins out, Biombo the board.
46:48Really is a nice debut for Dillon Harper.
46:51He's made some really smart plays.
46:53Good pass there to Carter Bryant in the corner.
46:56Jones Garcia soars in another offensive rebound for San Antonio.
47:01David Jones Garcia is a really great athlete.
47:05They played at DePaul, St. John's, and Memphis.
47:10He had 20 points in the fourth quarter of a preseason game.
47:14He's a super athletic guard.
47:24Reminder we have a double header tomorrow on ESPN as well.
47:29Thunder Pacers and Nuggets Warriors.
47:35That's out of bounds.
47:39A little more formally to tell you about it.
47:41Tomorrow night, NBA opening week rolls on.
47:44On ESPN, ESPN Deportes, all-new ESPN app.
47:47Thunder take out the Pacers, 7.30 Eastern,
47:49followed by Nuggets Warriors, Ernie, Kenny, Charles, and Shaq.
47:53Back to tip-off coverage at 6.30 Eastern.
47:56Not sure anybody is going to be better than Oklahoma City in the West,
48:00but if anybody can be, I think it might be Denver.
48:03You know, the pickups they made, you know, getting Cam Johnson,
48:07Valanchunas, Tim Hardaway Jr.,
48:11that's going to provide a lot more support around Nikola Jokic.
48:15In fact, they took Oklahoma City seven games last year in the playoffs.
48:20Right.
48:24I was with Gordon severely banged up as well.
48:31Cam Johnson coming off a career year,
48:33really expanded his playmaking abilities as well.
48:38Always know what kind of a shooter he is.
48:44I can't wait to hear the reaction from our fellows in the studio tonight
48:48to this performance from Wembenyama.
48:5440 points, 15 rebounds, 3 blocks for Victor Wembenyama,
48:5915 of 21 from the floor.
49:02I don't know, but I've never seen a package quite like skill set, size,
49:09everything like Wembenyama.
49:11The closest in my lifetime that I can remember would be,
49:15like if Ralph Sampson were born 21 years ago,
49:18I think he'd be like Wembenyama.
49:20Sampson was 7'4", but that was back when they stuffed big guys down in the post.
49:24And if he, you know, took a, before in college, he had a three-point shot.
49:29But I think if he grew up in today's game,
49:32you'd be saying Ralph Sampson and Victor Wembenyama are very similar,
49:36if not the same.
49:38And I'm sure early in his career you could say, okay,
49:41Will Chamberlain had a lot of similarities,
49:44but the skill set that this guy's got,
49:46he handles the ball like a guy's 6'1".
49:49It's ridiculous.
49:52Jims Garcia completes the three-point play.
49:54It's interesting you bring up Ralph Sampson because Victor's debut two years ago
50:00was against the Mavs, and Jason Kidd, that was the name he brought up
50:04when talking about Victor before that debut.
50:07Well, I try not to mention Ralph's name very often because he traumatized me in college.
50:12I had my first ACC game.
50:14I was 18 years old.
50:15I had to guard Ralph.
50:17He was 7'4", three-time national player of the year.
50:20He's 22 years old.
50:22Well, I did an amazing defensive job on him.
50:24I held him to 36 points.
50:26Welcome to the ACC.
50:29A little later in the season, he put 40 on Herb Williams and Clark Kellogg.
50:34So I was thinking, all right, maybe they're going to suck as much as I thought.
50:40Slight differential game and shot clock came in anticipating the debut of Cooper Flagg,
50:50the number one overall pick, the second youngest number one overall pick ever,
50:54only LeBron Younger.
50:56But tonight, all about Victor Wimbanyama.
51:03As Dad will do it, a forever season opener from Wemby.
51:13As the Spurs stomp the Mavs, 125-92 the final.
51:20Jordan Slight Knight this front.
51:24The flag, a double-double in his debut.
51:27Stephon Castle 22-7 and 6.
51:30Wimbanyama 40 points, 15 rebounds, and three blocks.
51:38Субтитры сделал DimaTorzok.
51:4213-21.
51:44Шутинг.
51:45The Spurs win it 125-92.
51:50And Wemby is with George Cedano.
51:53Thank you Ryan putting on his
51:54shirt.
51:56Victor.
51:58Your first basketball game in
51:59eight months and you get a
52:00victory.
52:01What is tonight like for you.
52:04What we're working for you know
52:06Субтитры делал DimaTorzok
52:36It was a dream, so I liked it.
52:38But, you know, it all helped me.
52:41I think the main thing, my summer revolt,
52:43my physical development and my trip to China,
52:45that's what it was about.
52:47And Hakeem, you know, in terms of scoring,
52:49it doesn't really get much better,
52:51so it can only be beneficial.
52:54Your teammate is the reigning rookie of the year,
52:56Stephon Castle, 22-7-6 tonight.
52:59What can you say about his development in chemistry with you?
53:01Oh, we talked about purposeful before,
53:05you know, like, he's just incredible.
53:07His ability to get downhill, this,
53:10and when we get Fox back as well,
53:12it's, you know, he can make plays that.
53:14I don't see anybody else do that.
53:15You know, those dunks, it's crazy powerful.
53:18Victor, congratulations and thank you.
53:20Thank you.
53:20Guys, back to you.
53:21All right, George.
53:22Victor Wembenyama, a night to remember.
53:25Just the fourth performance, 40 points, 15 rebounds,
53:29no turnovers, throw in three blocks as well.
53:33Most points scored in a season opener by a Spur ever.
53:36Spurs win at 125-92 over Dallas for a producer,
53:40Lori Privatera.
53:41Our director, Jeff Evers, Jay Billis, and George Sodano.
53:45I'm Ryan Rucco.
53:46Thanks for watching.
53:47Time to head back to the studio.
53:49Ernie, Kenny, Charles, and Shaq.
53:51Take it away, fellas.
53:52Take it away, fellas.
