00:04Derbyshire traffic cops.
00:05Pull over in here now!
00:07Might be game on for some of it here.
00:09It's just gone. Go, go, go, go.
00:12Patrol some of the country's most dangerous roads.
00:15Speed is 4-0. The vehicle's all over the road.
00:19Driving head-on.
00:20He's up the curb.
00:21Into danger.
00:22We just have warning markers for firearms.
00:25Vehicle's done.
00:26Get out of the car!
00:28Wow, gone.
00:29Designed to look like a mobile phone.
00:31Don't pull away, fella.
00:33With rising crime rates.
00:35Here you go, here you go.
00:36Officers are under pressure.
00:38Stop! Get out of here!
00:40You're doing it!
00:41Come on in now!
00:42You're under arrest.
00:45Police!
00:46With lives on the line.
00:47We're going to need at least three or four ambulances.
00:51Is it fuel?
00:52Right, move away from this car now!
00:54The stakes are high.
00:56Is it looking good at the minute?
00:57For the traffic cops.
00:59We've flown 128.
01:0011 minutes past two in the afternoon.
01:02You're under arrest.
01:03Conspiracy is theft of motor vehicles.
01:05Get out of here!
01:06Do not run!
01:07Smack the officer!
01:09Another problem!
01:10All right.
01:14Confirm bell.
01:16Confirm stop.
01:17Coming up.
01:18Cracking down.
01:20Vehicle's done!
01:22On illegal drivers.
01:24Get out of the car!
01:25Get out of the car!
01:26Get out of the car!
01:27Get out of the car!
01:30Unlicensed.
01:30Remember the public attacks?
01:31He's trying to block it.
01:33And uninsured.
01:34It really is a poor life choice.
01:37Making bad decisions.
01:39Get out of here!
01:39Do not run!
01:40Sit down!
01:41And putting lives at risk.
01:44Show me hands now!
01:46Police!
01:46Stop me with a taser!
01:47Police!
01:47Stop me with a taser!
01:48In the north-east of Derbyshire...
02:02Nick, can you sign four-sixes, sir, Bob?
02:04Rookie traffic cop Adam Hardy is searching for a suspected cloned vehicle that may have been stolen.
02:11So, we've been alerted to a possible cloned van.
02:15It's on the Derbyshire-Nottinghamshire border.
02:17So, there's quite a few resources that are heading towards.
02:21It was sighted by a NOTS officer, and then it's immediately sped up to try to evade them.
02:27So, I think it's aware of our presence, and knows that we're on to them.
02:33So, it's a game of flushing it out.
02:37Cloning is when a vehicle's identity is stolen by copying its number plates to disguise an illegal vehicle.
02:44Criminals, cloned cars, to avoid the police and commit criminality.
02:52It's one of the UK's fastest-growing crimes, up by more than 25% in the last three years.
02:59So, it is a white combo van.
03:03We've done some research on it.
03:05There's some distinguishing features of the roof bar, which isn't on the genuine, but is on the clone.
03:12If we can find it.
03:15Rookie Adam has only recently joined traffic, so he's still in training and unable to lead a chase.
03:21But he knows the area well.
03:24I used to be the BEAT officer on the Safe Neighbourhood team around this area.
03:29So, I know it at the back of my hand.
03:33Before I joined this unit, I didn't realise how valuable it is to work together closely as a team.
03:37Particularly when we're looking at stopping a subject vehicle,
03:40there's potentially got people in it that are wanting to make off from us.
03:46Several units are now searching the area.
03:48Ian, I know there's a garage where a lot of people can hide steel-wing cars.
03:56It's where I'd be putting it if I was them.
03:59To think like them, to get them.
04:02Close by.
04:08The wanted van is seen by another officer in an unmarked car.
04:18Heading straight towards Adam.
04:22It's there.
04:27It's four, six.
04:28Two male occupants.
04:30One more, eight, four.
04:31That's the only one, three.
04:33Two up.
04:34Drive ready.
04:35Have done.
04:35Have done.
04:37With Adam and units ahead tailing the van...
04:41It's a confirmed belt.
04:42Not belt shop.
04:43The driver speeds off into residential streets.
04:47Road weather conditions, fine and dry.
04:50PNC.
04:51Minimal traffic.
04:53Don't get soon.
04:54PNC extra.
04:55Right, right, right.
04:57With the risk of a crash.
05:00The RA is medium as it overtakes vehicles.
05:03Adam and another unit race ahead to set stinger traps.
05:07It's taking a left, left, left, there, on to...
05:15Where?
05:22As the van circles the area...
05:25Just trying to catch back up with the vehicle.
05:27Speed is six zero.
05:30DRA remains low.
05:33Adam sets up on a corner nearby.
05:35I can't give you occupant details.
05:39I'll just tell you it's two male drivers.
05:41So ride, ride, ride.
05:43A colleague gets another stinger ready half a mile away.
05:48Back to the correct side of the road.
05:51DRA is low.
05:58Vehicle stung.
06:00Going all the way.
06:01Looks like vehicle's stung.
06:07Negotiating tight near side bend.
06:13It's definitely eye-opening.
06:15Seeing the risks that people are prepared to take.
06:18And thinking must be more to it.
06:20Could be armory weapons.
06:21It's a cross, cross, cross to the near side.
06:27Vehicle is still moving.
06:28Speed reduced significantly.
06:30It's a four zero.
06:32After a successful sting, Adam and the team close in.
06:36It's definitely got a near side front blowout from the stinger.
06:39And a rear offside.
06:43Speed three zero.
06:45Proofing the junction to left, left, left.
06:48As officers move in for the arrest, Adam arrives.
07:00Get out of the car!
07:01Get out of the car!
07:02Get out of the car!
07:03Get out of the car!
07:04Give me your hand!
07:05I haven't done nothing.
07:06I'm passing down.
07:07You've been picked up.
07:08Give me your hand now!
07:09I haven't done nothing.
07:16That's my missus on the phone.
07:19I haven't done nothing.
07:29It's just by luck that no one has been injured as a result.
07:33Could have very easily killed someone or killed themselves.
07:35Wonder what was going through their head
07:37to justify putting everyone else's lives at risk.
07:40Literally, Ben, I've been going back to my missus and my...
07:43Where'd you live?
07:43I bet he was only to be cold.
07:45Whilst the passenger might not have done anything wrong,
07:48the driver could face prosecution.
07:51You, mate, you're under arrest on the special of dangerous driving
07:54and fell to stop to the police.
07:56So you do not have to say anything, but it may have to be defensive.
07:58Do not mention when questioned something which they're trying to call.
08:01Anything you do say may be given evidence.
08:02What have I done?
08:02Oh, well, you've just been in a car.
08:04It's failed to stop.
08:05No, I'm calling.
08:06What happened?
08:06You've got an influence on it, can't you?
08:08You can tell him to stop.
08:10Have you got a licence?
08:11No.
08:12Are you disqualified?
08:13Provisional.
08:14Provisional.
08:15Can I stand up?
08:15Brilliant.
08:16Stun up, mate.
08:17Stun up.
08:18Give him a pat down, then.
08:21Might get locked up.
08:22You will be there, 100%.
08:23What?
08:24I'm not driving up.
08:24No.
08:25I have a stun up.
08:25Still in a car.
08:27Good enough, aren't you?
08:28Never been in a car like this before, man.
08:30I think I weren't telling you.
08:32Good little sting over that way.
08:34Great.
08:35Great sting.
08:35Yeah.
08:36Can I just pass you the VIN for this van?
08:41Checks are made against the vehicle identification number.
08:45Have you got anything on you shouldn't have?
08:47I'm just going to put this bag off in, mate, because we're always there.
08:49Yeah.
08:49You got some what?
08:50A bit of weed in the car.
08:51So that was all about a bit of weed, was it?
08:53That's ridiculous, mate.
08:55You should be ashamed of yourself.
08:57He's not helped himself out, because by driving like this, he's going to be having a dangerous
09:01drive conviction, as well as everything else, it's going to be very difficult for him to
09:05get insurance, and if so, it'll be very, very expensive for him.
09:09I promise, if it is, you're even more of an idiot than I already think you are.
09:13Have you been arrested before?
09:14Yeah.
09:15A while, by the time.
09:15Me too.
09:17Well, I've not been in trouble for a while, no.
09:20I don't even know the streets, mate.
09:23This is what I'm saying.
09:24I'm telling him to be careful, going around them pens.
09:26I thought I'd good time you.
09:27Yeah.
09:28I'm not going to lie.
09:29What's the details of the vehicle out there?
09:33I'm not insured.
09:33It comes back to that lad.
09:36So it's neither of these two.
09:38The van hasn't been reported as stolen by its registered keeper.
09:43Whose van is it?
09:45Where have you got it from?
09:46I've got a friend.
09:47Who's your friend?
09:49I mean.
09:50Is that his name?
09:51Is he called our mate?
09:53Or has he got an actual name?
09:54Have you got his phone number?
09:55So he can check it's not stolen.
09:56I haven't got it on.
09:58Not on me on phone, no.
10:00No.
10:01How do you communicate with him, mate?
10:03He only comes to me.
10:05He goes, hey, mate, you can borrow this van.
10:08He only comes to me.
10:10We've done checks on the vehicle,
10:12and it comes back to just a vehicle that's got no insurance.
10:15So they're obviously using the false plates just to mask
10:18whatever they're up to.
10:21Officers search the passenger.
10:23Is there anything on you that I need to be aware of?
10:24No, mate, just stuff in my bag, that's about it.
10:26There's probably empty weed bags in the grinder, that's it.
10:28Very good.
10:29What I'm going to do is, everything I take out of your bag,
10:32I'm just going to stick it on the floor, yeah?
10:34There's drugs in there, like smoke cannabis.
10:35I ain't got none on me.
10:36I'll tell you if I had some.
10:37I don't sell drugs without it.
10:39In the back of the van, more number plates are found.
10:45So, odds are, if we do not get it now,
10:47they just continue doing what they're doing and changing plates,
10:50which they're obviously up to no good driving around in a van
10:53on clone plates.
10:54So they'll be off to Ripwick Hustody.
11:00Nah, I'm not being nasty or all right, mate.
11:02I'm proud of you, you know what I mean?
11:04So it's not me?
11:06No, it's just no docks, mate.
11:08I'm a bit of weird apartment.
11:10As the van is cloned and failed to stop,
11:16it'll be recovered and searched for links to crime.
11:20It's documented offences that they're committed,
11:23but the fact that they've drove so dangerously to get away from us,
11:25they probably will get remanded.
11:28I'd like to think, after spending a bit of time in custody,
11:33that these drivers reflect and think about what they've done.
11:37Every day's school day, I'm learning from every job I'm going to.
11:39There's quite a lot to think about in high-pressure situations,
11:42more than coming to work and catching criminals on the road.
11:45It's what I joined the job to do.
11:47Now it's time for me to live those experiences.
11:55Coming up...
11:56Yeah, vehicle's stung, vehicle's stung.
11:58Not slow, it's slow pursuit.
12:01A reckless pursuit uncovers another unlicensed driver.
12:05Police stop us with a danger!
12:07Police stop us with a danger!
12:08Get on the ground!
12:10Get on the ground!
12:11Risking everything to get away.
12:13I won't!
12:14Can you just let me go?
12:18I don't want to go to prison.
12:20Well, you should have stopped then, shouldn't you?
12:21I don't want to go to prison.
12:22I don't want to go to prison.
12:24And I'll stand out for something to do as a moving vehicle check, please.
12:43Ten miles north of Derby.
12:45Yes, sir. Do you want him running through on a DL?
12:48Yes, yes.
12:49Traffic cop Andy Swift is tailing a suspicious vehicle that sped off after spotting him.
12:56He's well aware of my presence.
12:58But as he lights it up for a stop...
13:01N8, vehicle is failing to stop. Standby. Taking call sign pursuit.
13:05The car makes off.
13:06Vehicle, I believe, is failing to stop.
13:07I'm going to drive a T-PAC train.
13:10Jack, it's got nothing in front of it. It's going towards your speed. It's 5-0.
13:14I am ground command.
13:15I'm just blewing it to you, mate.
13:20Nearby, PC Jack Pressland is racing to back up Andy.
13:25I think when a vehicle fails to stop for me, it makes you think, why are they failing to stop?
13:34Has that person just committed a serious crime? Have they got a weapon on them?
13:39And it just makes you sort of a bit more aware of what are they willing to do to get away?
13:44On CO1, my preferred tactic is a stinger.
13:47If we can set up a stinger at the next available opportunity, please.
13:53Thousands of suspects fail to stop for police every year.
13:57Many of them unlicensed and uninsured.
14:01We've got low... Sorry, medium traffic, no pedestrians.
14:05Up ahead, Jack prepares to puncture the car's tyres.
14:10Luckily, the vehicle's coming towards me.
14:12We've got a stinger on board.
14:15It's a perfect opportunity to slow the vehicle right down.
14:20And then look at favourite tactics.
14:23Yeah, vehicle's stung, vehicle's stung.
14:25It's not slow, it's still in pursuit.
14:28Traffic is light.
14:29Now we're pedestrians.
14:30We've got one at one point.
14:31We're vehicle's down by standby.
14:32The RA is medium.
14:34We are stuck by traffic.
14:36The RA goes back to low.
14:37After a successful sting, Jack races to catch up with the pursuit.
14:42Yeah, vehicle is slowing, standby, vehicle is slowing.
14:47Resume to be extinguished.
14:49Little tactical units, would we please?
14:51Yeah, I see the pursuit is authorised.
14:53Yeah, from NA, pursuit continues to be authorised.
15:00It's like rims, I believe.
15:01I can smell it.
15:02It's good.
15:04Hello, T-shirt.
15:04Heading towards them from the opposite direction...
15:08I'm making some ground to it.
15:10..is Sergeant Scott Riley.
15:13It's smoking, this vehicle.
15:15It's definitely got a front, near side tyre that's gone.
15:20It's not one, not one.
15:23On top side is off, it's not.
15:25It's not two, not...
15:26It's the second, the second vehicle.
15:28It's still moving.
15:28Standby, standby.
15:30Get round it, get round it.
15:31I'm wondering if at the moment the vehicle is all over the road
15:33and it is going 1,5 miles per hour.
15:38No!
15:40Remember the public, a taxi's trying to block it.
15:42Vehicle has collided now,
15:44with the offside curve trying to get past.
15:47You can totally understand why people get involved,
15:50however, they need to understand the risk
15:52that they're putting to themselves.
15:54Standby, three, red ATS.
15:56The RA is high, back to low.
15:58There's no pedestrian.
16:00470 Sierra 4, not too far away from you.
16:03The vehicle is still seeing bits of falling off the car now.
16:08We're now into the 50 mile an hour stretch.
16:11Speed is 2.6.
16:12Vehicle slows.
16:13We're going to have 2.0 miles per hour.
16:17Good.
16:19I think if I was in agreement,
16:20when it dot-tunes presents itself,
16:22we're going for a three-car box.
16:24I don't believe it's more.
16:27I'm not going to go past this.
16:29It's just going to go down the street.
16:30The vehicle is now 1.7 miles per hour.
16:34That's it.
16:34I'm right, right, right.
16:35So Ned will be with us very shortly.
16:37I don't know where we're going from here.
16:38So, Scott, I don't know if one of you wants to go up the hill to the top
16:40where this comes out.
16:42I'm sure you know where I'm in.
16:46So it's gone the back roof.
16:48It's gone over the top.
16:49I think we've got all rooms covered then.
16:50With Scott ahead to block the driver off,
16:56Andy and Jack hold back.
16:57I think it's safe to say he's got no idea where he's going.
17:00We can't get past the box.
17:02It's a bunch of single-track carriageway.
17:04It's still got no signs of stopping.
17:05We're 10 miles per hour calling this vehicle.
17:09It's absolutely struggling great.
17:12We're not going more than 10 miles an hour.
17:14I'd probably, even for a big lad,
17:16get out and run quicker than this.
17:19After nine minutes,
17:21the team is able to finally box the car in.
17:25We're here, we're here.
17:33Show me hands now!
17:36Police stop you with a taser!
17:38Police stop you with a taser!
17:39Get on the ground!
17:40Get on the ground!
17:42Show us your hands now!
17:44I'm sorry!
17:44All right, give me your hands!
17:45I'm sorry!
17:45Give me your hands or you'll be taser!
17:47I'm sorry.
17:47Forward forward!
17:48Come forward now!
17:49All right, I'm sorry.
17:50I'm sorry!
17:51While Andy arrests the driver,
17:54Jack deals with his passenger.
17:55He's got one detained.
17:59He's pulled over.
18:00There's a passenger also.
18:03Give me your hands!
18:04Give me your hands!
18:08Right, stand up!
18:12Come on, stand up with your huge legs.
18:13You've run off.
18:14I'm sorry.
18:17You've hurt!
18:18All right, I walked!
18:19Can you just let me go?
18:22My dog's in the car!
18:25You should've stopped then, shouldn't you?
18:27My dog's in the boot!
18:29You should've thought to heart, shouldn't you?
18:30What was all that about then?
18:43I'm sorry, I've got the tax.
18:47You've got a licence?
18:47My mum and my friends ran off, not me.
18:52Is it insured?
18:52Is it your car?
18:53Yeah, it's insured on learners.
18:56You've got a prison?
18:57My dog.
18:58Your dog's fine, he's there.
19:00Can I see you?
19:02Please?
19:04What's going to happen to my dog here?
19:05Well, this dog, I'm very all sorted out.
19:07He's not violent.
19:08I don't want to go to prison.
19:09Well, you should've stopped then, shouldn't you?
19:11I don't want to go to prison.
19:14It amazes me.
19:15A lot of people, especially young drivers,
19:17they're willing to go to such great lengths
19:19to try and get away with what is pretty much
19:21relatively low-level stuff.
19:23Right.
19:23So, because you're committed to moving traffic events,
19:28namely, if they're going to stop for police
19:29and dangerous driving,
19:31you're required to provide a sample of breath
19:32at the roadside for analysis, okay?
19:34I must warn you that they're fair to provide
19:35a sample of an offence.
19:36If you say you won't do, you'll be arrested,
19:38which can lead to your imprisonment
19:39in case of driving or a fire.
19:41Will I be allowed home tonight?
19:42You're going to the cells.
19:43You'll be going to the police station at the cells.
19:45And then I'll be allowed down tomorrow night?
19:46Well, unless you get remanded to prison tomorrow.
19:49Anyway, so,
19:50are you willing to provide a sample of breath analysis?
19:53Obviously, when you're a lot younger,
19:54you don't always have the sort of foresight
19:56to know what's going to happen.
19:58Combine that with beating
19:59one and a half, two tonnes of metal
20:00can ultimately lead to a disaster
20:02because I think you're effectively just driving
20:04a killing machine.
20:06Zero, as expected.
20:08That's what we're like, innit?
20:09No one of the drinks are having.
20:10Can I say goodbye to him?
20:12Yeah, come as you can.
20:13Can I get out, then?
20:14No.
20:15Can you take these off?
20:16No.
20:16In me.
20:20What is this?
20:21Like, the...
20:22that I've done wrong,
20:23but we should all be all right
20:24and everything with society?
20:25No.
20:26Exactly.
20:26So think about your actions,
20:27your consequences.
20:30In the UK,
20:31there are over 75,000 learner drivers
20:34with points on their licences.
20:37Most of them, young men.
20:39I understand why people make off from the police
20:41when they've committed very, very serious offences,
20:43armed robberies, things like that.
20:44But in comparison to what this chap had done,
20:46he's not some hardened criminal.
20:48I think he's just some young lad
20:50who doesn't appreciate how dangerous his actions are.
20:54The suspect's car will be seized
20:56while he's taken to custody.
20:58He could be facing a prison sentence
21:00and a driving ban.
21:01Unfortunately, your mate's done you over here.
21:11The passenger in the middle of rural Derbyshire
21:14is free to go.
21:20Coming up,
21:21another fail to stop...
21:23Stand by.
21:24...leads to a hunt for an illegal driver.
21:27We know you're not the driving.
21:28I know, but the thing is, right,
21:30you're going to take my car
21:31and I need that for work.
21:33If she's naming you as the driver
21:34of this vehicle at the time,
21:35then you're going to get prosecuted for it, OK?
21:37And an officer
21:38searching for answers.
21:41You've obviously
21:42made a few poor life choices,
21:44shall we leave it at that?
21:46Am I going to jail tonight, mate?
21:48Yeah, they've got it.
21:57Showing insurance not held,
21:59MOT not held,
22:00no other reports present.
22:03Every week,
22:04at least one person
22:05is killed by an uninsured driver.
22:08Can any ops units
22:09start making the way, please,
22:10including Oscar Juliet?
22:11In Chesterfield,
22:18traffic cop Alex Head
22:20is on patrol.
22:22If people are willing
22:23to just drive
22:25without having ever taken a test
22:27or whilst disqualified,
22:29they don't care about
22:30anyone else in Derbyshire.
22:31They're just out for themselves.
22:33Jesus Christ,
22:35what the hell is that?
22:36He spots a car speeding off,
22:38colliding with a curb.
22:41I'm sure
22:44turned down here.
22:47The driver instantly
22:48has seen me.
22:50He's panicked.
22:50He knows he's just messed up
22:52and that's why he's making off.
22:54I didn't see someone's
22:55headlights down here,
22:56but they're not the ones we want.
22:59More colliding.
23:03With the vehicle slipping away...
23:05I'll just put it on our hot list.
23:08Alex updates the police system.
23:11An hour and a half later,
23:17Alex and other units...
23:182-4.
23:20...including PC Chris Wells-Jackson
23:22are still on the lookout
23:23for the fail-to-stop driver.
23:27I'll cut across.
23:28It's just only off chance
23:29it decides to come by.
23:31Most of the time,
23:32people fail to stop
23:33because they shouldn't be driving
23:34that vehicle
23:35and they just don't want
23:36to get caught,
23:37whether that's because
23:37they're drunk,
23:38drugged up,
23:39they've got something
23:40in the vehicle
23:40that they shouldn't have
23:41or just don't have the documents
23:43to be driving that vehicle.
23:46Checks on the car
23:47confirm it is legal,
23:49but it's not insured
23:50to a male.
23:51There's a vehicle
23:52that comes back insured
23:53to a female
23:54in the Chesterfield area,
23:56but Alex said
23:57it was definitely a male
23:58that was driving,
23:59so that might indicate
24:00why it's made off
24:03in the first place.
24:03It's estimated
24:06that uninsured drivers
24:08cost the UK economy
24:09almost £2.5 billion
24:11every year.
24:15I still have to pay
24:16my way
24:17so that I can drive
24:17a vehicle legally
24:19and so does my family,
24:20my friends,
24:21the people that I work with,
24:22so it's very annoying
24:23and very frustrating
24:24to think that people
24:25think they can just
24:26keep getting away with it
24:27because if you get hit
24:28by an uninsured driver,
24:30you're the person
24:30that unfortunately
24:31has to fork the bill.
24:33There's barely anything
24:36on the road at all,
24:37so I would imagine
24:38that we'll be able
24:39to see it
24:40quite obviously.
24:43Are you sure for?
24:43Are you sure for?
24:44Sergeant Scott Riley
24:46joins the hunt.
24:48We're struggling
24:49to locate him
24:50at this time.
24:51Could be
24:52literally anywhere.
24:55There's no sign of it,
24:56so I'm just going to
24:57sit in lay-by
24:57over motorway.
25:00I'm sure I heard
25:004-7 mentioned something
25:02about the dressing
25:03linked to the female
25:04to niche.
25:07Could you just
25:07have a good quick look,
25:08please?
25:09Yeah, of course you can.
25:11We've got a couple
25:12of units
25:12that are
25:13up and down
25:13the motorway
25:14just
25:14sat at different exits.
25:18Nearby,
25:19Scott spots it.
25:23At 8, 10,
25:2410, 24.
25:28We've got that vehicle
25:29out.
25:31It's going straight on.
25:34Are you coming back
25:35towards all?
25:36Yes, yes.
25:38Not too far away
25:39from you.
25:41I'm at co-op.
25:42As Chris waits
25:45nearby,
25:46Scott and the rest
25:47of the team
25:47close in.
25:49Yeah, I'm going to
25:50come on.
25:52And it is a
25:53right, right, right
25:53towards you, sir.
25:55It's here,
25:55coming up towards.
25:57But Alex is still
25:59several miles out.
26:05Couldn't see your driver.
26:07He's got two occupants.
26:08Yes, yes.
26:20With four cars
26:21tailing the vehicle.
26:23Standby.
26:24They move in.
26:30Vehicle stopped
26:31in there, dummy.
26:33The reason we've
26:34stopped you,
26:34we suspect that this
26:35vehicle might have
26:36stopped one of our
26:37officers earlier on
26:38tonight.
26:38I've been to come
26:39before, mate.
26:40So who's been
26:41driving it earlier on?
26:46We'll just take the car.
26:47Yeah, we may as well.
26:49I need my car for work.
26:51You should have
26:51thought about that.
26:51I'd let other people
26:52drive it, shouldn't you?
26:54So the driver of the
26:55vehicle, she's got a
26:56driving licence, she's
26:57insured on the vehicle.
26:58She's the keeper of it,
27:00so why would she fail
27:01to stop?
27:02However, the chap
27:03that's sat in the
27:04passenger seat, he
27:05doesn't really want to
27:06talk to us, doesn't
27:07want to give us
27:07much information.
27:08He's very sketchy.
27:11Right, tell you
27:12what, jump out of the
27:12car, I want to
27:13work with you.
27:14Nah, I'm good here.
27:15Well, we're seeing
27:16the car, so you
27:16need to get out.
27:17Come and jump in our
27:18car, don't we?
27:19We need to do some
27:19paperwork with you.
27:22Right.
27:24We know you're not
27:24been driving.
27:25Yeah?
27:25I know, but the thing
27:26is, right, you're
27:27going to take my car
27:27and I need that for
27:28work.
27:29This is going to
27:29cost you a lot of
27:30money to get out of
27:30this compound, because
27:31we know it's a bloke
27:32been driving this car.
27:33There's a bloke in
27:34your car, yeah?
27:35I didn't come down
27:36in your shower a long
27:37time ago, yeah?
27:39Help yourself out and
27:41be honest, because
27:41when we give you that
27:42notice of intended
27:43prosecution, yeah,
27:44you're going to get
27:45six points if you
27:46don't answer it.
27:47How many points
27:48have you got on your
27:48licence now?
27:49None.
27:49None.
27:51Your car's going to
27:51be seized, it's going
27:52to cost you hundreds
27:53of pounds to get this
27:54back, okay?
27:55And you commit the same
27:57offences as that
27:59driver, so fail to
28:01stop, driving
28:02dangerously.
28:06She is committing
28:06offences because she's
28:08allowing that other
28:08person to drive that
28:10vehicle without the
28:11relevant documents.
28:13We've got to be a
28:14little bit pragmatic
28:15and say, look, if you
28:17tell us the truth, we'll
28:18deal with him and on
28:20this occasion we'll
28:21allow you to go without
28:23any prosecution.
28:24Is he your partner?
28:26Is he your ex-partner or
28:27what?
28:27He's my partner.
28:28Your partner.
28:29This vehicle came out
28:30of that petrol station.
28:31It's got very good
28:31CCTV footage.
28:35There's an easy way of
28:35dealing with this and
28:36there's a difficult way
28:37of dealing with it.
28:38The easier you make it
28:39for us, the easier we'll
28:40make it for you.
28:42So where are you
28:43driving that vehicle at
28:43that time?
28:48You haven't got a
28:49solicitor or anything
28:50present?
28:50Okay, that's fine.
28:51I feel like you're
28:52trying to cause something.
28:53I'm not causing anything.
28:54We're going to ask her the
28:55question and give her a
28:56notice of intended
28:57prosecution.
28:58When people start to
28:59lead us down a path, all
29:01it does is makes us more
29:02determined to make sure
29:03that we get a prosecution.
29:05And if that means we have
29:06to spend a few hours
29:07trawling CCTV and ANPR
29:10images, then that's what
29:11we'll do.
29:12Right, thank you very much.
29:17She's just stated it's him
29:18driving who was in the car.
29:24That is potentially going to
29:26save you from your car
29:27getting seized, but why
29:28have you lent it him?
29:31I don't know.
29:32Was you in the car at the
29:33time?
29:33No.
29:35So all I'm asking you is
29:36straight up now, were you
29:38the driver at the time that
29:39the vehicles failed to stop
29:40from my colleague earlier?
29:40OK, if she's naming you as
29:42the driver of this vehicle
29:43at the time, then you're
29:43going to get prosecuted for
29:44it, OK?
29:45That's what she's saying
29:46and I'm not going to call
29:48her the lighter, am I?
29:49It's my name.
29:51OK, well, that's what she
29:52That's what she said.
29:56I'm not asking you what
29:57she said, I'm asking you
29:57what you're saying.
29:58No, I wasn't driving,
30:00but if she said that, I am.
30:01No, you weren't driving,
30:02but if she said you were,
30:03you were.
30:04She's saying that you're
30:05driving.
30:07So you were.
30:08OK.
30:10Alex arrives on scene.
30:14Right, so what's going to
30:15happen is my colleague's
30:15going to give you a traffic
30:16offence report for the
30:17offences committed earlier,
30:18OK, and then she's going to
30:20drive this home.
30:21That's the easy way of
30:22dealing with it.
30:22Is that fair enough?
30:23Right, yeah.
30:24Come and take a seat with me.
30:25Stop out for me.
30:29Have you got a driving
30:30licence?
30:31No, mate.
30:32Have you ever applied for one?
30:33I had one for a motorbike,
30:35years ago, yeah.
30:36All right, OK.
30:36Come and take a seat,
30:37Harry.
30:37I'll apply for you.
30:39I don't know why people
30:40find it so difficult to just
30:42be honest with us sometimes
30:44because it makes it ten times
30:45easier for us to deal with
30:46and ten times easier for them.
30:48So if it had carried on
30:49playing silly bugs about it,
30:51then he'd have probably been
30:51locked up, but all in all,
30:53he's been honest in the end
30:54eventually and he's just
30:56ended up with a ticket.
30:57Tell you what, if you want,
30:58go and sit back in your car.
30:59He's going to get a ticket
31:00and he'll be coming with you,
31:02OK?
31:03Keep your keys in your pocket.
31:05Don't let him drive because
31:06you commit the same offences
31:08as he does, you know,
31:09because you're allowing him
31:10to drive your motor vehicle,
31:12right?
31:13Go and get in your car.
31:15Also, you don't have to say
31:15anything, but it may have an
31:16offence.
31:17If you do not mention now
31:17something which you'd like to
31:18allow in the court,
31:19anything you do say may be
31:19given an evidence.
31:20Students don't want the
31:21tickets for, yeah?
31:21Yeah.
31:22You're not going to get
31:23arrested?
31:24You've obviously made a few
31:25poor life choices, shall we?
31:27So we'll leave it at that?
31:28Am I going to jail tonight,
31:30mate?
31:30No.
31:32I'm sorry, pal.
31:34It really is a poor life
31:35choice.
31:35I'm not this type of guy,
31:36mate.
31:37I've just been trying to stay
31:38squeaky clean, mate.
31:39I wanted to actually get my
31:40license, but I'll happily
31:41take it on chin.
31:42You know what I mean?
31:43You've done your job,
31:43right?
31:44Haven't you?
31:45Right.
31:46So, right now from you.
31:48Just a quick squiggle.
31:49Yeah.
31:49The man has been reported
31:57and is free to go.
31:59Right.
32:00Sorry for taking off.
32:01It's all right.
32:02So on this occasion,
32:04because we've got the truth
32:05out of them,
32:06we've not seized the vehicle.
32:08He's going to have his day in court.
32:10We'll get points on a license
32:11that he doesn't even have.
32:13So that'll hinder him
32:15trying to get a legitimate
32:15driving license in the future.
32:18It's going to be prosecuted for
32:19driving otherwise in accordance
32:21with the license,
32:22driving without insurance
32:23and also failing to stop.
32:24So a little bit of a moment
32:26of madness,
32:27which I think he's very
32:28regretful of.
32:32All in all,
32:32it's a good result.
32:33It's a good stop.
32:34Not damaged any vehicles.
32:35We've not ended up
32:36in a dangerous pursuit.
32:37I think the reason as to why
32:38he's hit the curb earlier on
32:39is because he just doesn't
32:40know how to drive.
32:41He's clearly not read the road
32:42very well,
32:43so she's going to have
32:44to pay for that
32:45and the damage to
32:46her suspension,
32:47I believe.
32:48If she allows anybody else
32:50or him to drive again
32:51in the future
32:51when they're not able
32:53to do so,
32:53then she will get punished
32:54and she'll get the same
32:55punishment as they get.
33:01Coming up...
33:02Yeah, mate,
33:02don't make any sudden movements
33:03or anything like that.
33:05Another young man
33:06fleeing the scene.
33:09Kenny, do not run.
33:11Sit down.
33:12Sit down.
33:14Yeah.
33:14Sit down.
33:16As a tip-off
33:17leads officers...
33:18Kenny,
33:19you can get me
33:19recovery for that vehicle.
33:21...to a wanted car.
33:23This is a private car park.
33:24You can have to take that.
33:26Watch.
33:26Watch, he says.
33:28Watch.
33:43Two, three.
33:43Yeah, and a couple of minutes away.
33:47Traffic cop Craig Dawes
33:49is heading to the outskirts
33:50of Chesterfield.
33:52So it's a Sunday morning day shift.
33:54The sun's shining.
33:56The weather is delightful.
33:59He's looking for a car
34:01that failed to stop
34:02for police the night before.
34:03It's been spotted
34:04on a local housing estate.
34:06This vehicle's been linked
34:10to a couple of fail-to stops
34:11that we've had
34:12on Derbyshire.
34:15It's no keeper,
34:15no insurance.
34:17So we'll go and have a look,
34:19see what we've got
34:20and who's in it.
34:23There's a young male in the back of the car.
34:50Yeah, mate,
34:52don't make any sort of movements
34:53or out like that or...
34:55Come here.
34:59Do not run.
35:01Sit down.
35:02Sit down.
35:04Yeah, sit down.
35:06Don't move.
35:07Give me a hand.
35:08Give me a hand.
35:09Give me your hand.
35:12Do not move.
35:16Give me a hand.
35:20No.
35:22So what were all that
35:22being silly for?
35:23What, what, no?
35:24Just trying to run off then.
35:25I don't know.
35:26You just...
35:26No, no, no, no.
35:27You knew we were cops
35:28because she had a good look around
35:29and you've tried to do a runner, son.
35:30Haven't you?
35:31What were that about?
35:32I don't know.
35:33Shall we start again now
35:34and have a think about what we're doing?
35:36A little bit silly that, wasn't it?
35:38Is that your car?
35:38Yeah.
35:39Yeah.
35:39You got any insurance?
35:40Got a licence?
35:40No.
35:41Okay, spin round.
35:42Which way?
35:43This way?
35:43Yeah.
35:45And hey, you get my recovery
35:46for that vehicle.
35:47It's his vehicle.
35:49Obviously, I'd fail stop
35:49and seen it drive yesterday,
35:51so we'll have it 165
35:52no insurance.
35:55So, where are you from then, chap?
35:58I'm homeless.
35:59You're homeless, are you?
36:00Yeah.
36:01Right.
36:03That's the one that's me sleeping, Matt.
36:05That's not my car.
36:06I don't drive.
36:07It's small just like me sleeping.
36:07Is it?
36:08Well, you just said it's your car.
36:09Well, because I'm not going to say whose car it is.
36:11Okay.
36:12Do you get what I'm saying?
36:13Yeah, yeah, probably.
36:14All I do is just sleep in it.
36:15I'm not seeing them.
36:16Well, we're going to seize it anyway, 165 insurance.
36:19No, I do.
36:19I'm not seeing them.
36:19We'll let you get your stuff out of it, yeah.
36:22Because obviously, I've got a smashed tyre
36:24and it has failed to stop a couple of times.
36:26Has it?
36:27Yeah.
36:27It has.
36:27You ever drive then, it wrote like that?
36:29What about?
36:30Yeah.
36:30No.
36:30You never do.
36:31It's just my mates.
36:32And you're not going to tell me who you made to?
36:34I'm sorry, yeah.
36:34No.
36:35Which is fair enough.
36:36No, absolutely, absolutely.
36:38Just run you through to make sure you're not wanted at all.
36:41Anything else you can go?
36:42Two, three.
36:43Can you just run someone through for me, please?
36:46Yeah, go ahead.
36:47We tend to find that cars that are being used that aren't legal
36:51are what we call poor cars.
36:54So there's numerous people who have access to that vehicle
36:56who will drive them at different times,
36:58pretty much all with no licence and no insurance.
37:02Actually, pinning it down to one person
37:03does prove a little bit difficult.
37:05I don't know what the car's been used for
37:07and I'm sleeping in it,
37:08so I don't want to be tired of anything.
37:10You know what I mean?
37:11That's what I was thinking.
37:12It's like, I'm just sleeping in it.
37:14I see the police.
37:15I'm like, what do you?
37:15If only people that's up to no good runs from police,
37:19genuine nice people tend to sit
37:20and want to have a chat with us.
37:22If you don't know no wrong,
37:24you don't need to run, do you?
37:25No.
37:27I don't know.
37:28It's just that quick thought, quick reaction.
37:30I don't know.
37:31We know next time.
37:32Don't think.
37:33Don't think.
37:34No, it's probably not your strong point, is it?
37:36Hey.
37:37It's all about choices.
37:40Ask Tango, two, three.
37:41Do you know Christ, PNC?
37:43Yoshi, you've just put his name on incident for me.
37:45Have you not been in trouble before?
37:46I'm a nice, I'm a good person.
37:48Yeah, yeah, yeah.
37:49Good, good.
37:50Yeah.
37:51All right, I'm just going to have a look at what's in there.
37:53All right, Pop.
37:53There's nothing in there.
37:54There might be a grinder.
37:56That's the only thing, but they're not even a legal.
37:57No, no.
37:58Well, obviously, we've got a car here.
38:01He's saying it's not his car.
38:03Don't hold the driving licence, but he's got the keys.
38:05Obviously, we're not going to be able to prove that he's driving,
38:07but because he's no insurance, and it has been seen driving it last 24 hours,
38:11and it has failed to stop and things like that.
38:14Obviously, it's got a rip wheel.
38:15We'll just seize it for 165,
38:17and then it's for the owner to come and reclaim it if he wants to.
38:23Here we go.
38:23Look, we'll get the locals coming, look.
38:26Go away.
38:29Go away, please.
38:30The last thing he wants is you to come.
38:32No.
38:32No, and I don't have to tell you what he's doing.
38:36That camera looks so gorgeous.
38:39Of course, you'll...
38:40Make sure you're up.
38:41Is it if I start getting my stuff out of the car?
38:43Yeah, yeah.
38:44The car's not legal.
38:46I'm going to have to seize it.
38:47Part of me thinks, unfortunately,
38:49have I just then put somebody homeless?
38:50Have I made somebody be sleeping on the street that night?
38:54Unable to prove who was driving,
38:57no arrests can be made.
39:00I'm going to stay here and talk about it.
39:01I'll get some brother, I think.
39:02I've got to stay and pee for it.
39:04What?
39:07Oi, bro, this is my estate, bro.
39:10See you.
39:11Oi, it's a private car park, bitch.
39:13You're an expert in parking now, are you?
39:15It's a private car park.
39:16I know that.
39:17Oh, you've got a home front in here.
39:18Yeah, put it out in here.
39:20It's how you take it, mate.
39:22One, it's got nothing to do with you.
39:23Two, I don't have to explain nothing.
39:25How do you know that's not my car?
39:27Is it your car?
39:27How do you know?
39:28Is it your car?
39:29It might be.
39:30Tell me then, I'll lock you up.
39:32It might be my mate's car.
39:33You know what I mean?
39:34Tell me then and I'll lock him up.
39:35This is a private car park.
39:37You can upset that.
39:38Watch.
39:39Watch, he says.
39:40Watch.
39:42With the man claiming to have a key for the car, Craig waits for recovery to arrive.
39:50It'll be on police auction soon, won't it?
39:51Nah, that's not good in an auction, is it, that?
39:54What, you're hoping it's going to get through?
39:55Can't be hard, that, innit?
39:57Let's get a new one.
39:59Obviously, they're all coming out for us now.
40:00I bet some brings them out.
40:04Being a police officer, you've got to have patience.
40:06You've got to have a thick skin.
40:07If you let these people kind of wind you up or get to you, then, you know, it's going
40:10to be a long day for you.
40:12I didn't make it right.
40:13It's got a flat near side, off side.
40:15So, whether you want to get a bit closer, I'll move.
40:18When you get in, I'll move my car out of the way.
40:21A proper criminal or somebody that's, you know, of importance won't be running the
40:24mouth off like that.
40:26So, it just shows you what he is and who he is.
40:29Obviously, you've got him come trying to be a big, wide boy, you know, big gangster with
40:36his brand new trainers and his black tracky bottom.
40:41Clearly, he's just trying to play up to people around here.
40:43And to be fair, they're not interested.
40:46I think they think the same as I do about him.
40:50The damage that had been done to that car, I'd say it was definitely excess speed damage.
40:55It wouldn't be trying to evade police.
40:58I've worked around here and they're all right.
41:00You know, they'll talk to you.
41:04Nothing better to do on a Sunday morning, has he?
41:07They'd stand here videoing, Snapchatting, TikToking or whatever else he wants to do.
41:11The car will be stored in a compound for two weeks.
41:17If no one claims it, it'll be sold.
41:21There's no keeper to it.
41:23If anybody does come forward, then, you know, we'll talk to them.
41:26But I'm having it.
41:27That's going to be a tin of beans or something the next few months.
41:30That's the satisfying thing from this.
41:35It'll disrupt that pool of people for a short time.
41:37It's another car that's been used to commit crime and been destroyed.
41:41Every year, more than a thousand deaths and serious injuries are caused by uninsured,
41:53unlicensed or disqualified drivers.
41:56You get a few who think that it's their right to drive.
42:00It's not.
42:01It's a privilege in this country.
42:03It does annoy you.
42:04You're just so blase about it and carefree.
42:07And it's just, end of the day, going to end in disaster.
42:11They're likely to kill somebody or seriously harm somebody.
42:14It's frustrating for us because we know that we've got to put ourselves at risk sometimes
42:19to make sure we take those people off the road.
42:21And we're never going to stop trying to fight that crime.
42:24In this episode...
42:31Vehicle stung!
42:34The driver of the cloned van that failed to stop,
42:37pleaded guilty to dangerous driving,
42:39failing to stop and driving without a license.
42:44He received a £239 fine,
42:47an 18-month driving ban
42:49and a 24-week suspended sentence.
42:52It would be a shame.
42:53So that was all about a bit of weed, was it?
42:55That's ridiculous, mate.
42:57The passenger was released with no further action.
43:02Come back, we read ATS.
43:04The young man on a provisional license who failed to stop over no tax,
43:09pleaded guilty to driving without a license,
43:12failing to stop and dangerous driving.
43:14Get on the ground!
43:16He received a 26-week suspended sentence
43:19and a 12-month driving ban.
43:21He was also ordered to carry out a rehabilitation program,
43:2540 hours of unpaid work,
43:27and was issued with a £239 fine.
43:31What's going to happen to my dog?
43:33Can I see him?
43:35Please!
43:36The passenger was released with no further action.
43:39The driver, suspected of speeding away from Alex and colliding with a curb,
43:48was reported on summons to court for driving without a license,
43:51driving without insurance, and failing to stop.
43:55I'm sorry, Bob.
43:57It really is a poor life choice.
43:59He is due to appear in court.
44:01Don't move!
44:05Give me hands!
44:06And the vehicle that failed to stop for police twice,
44:10that a young man was sleeping in,
44:12was never claimed and has been scrapped.
44:15It's a bump in, isn't it?
44:16The passenger was photographed.
44:43You
