00:00U.S. President Donald Trump is signaling optimism about a possible meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
00:06But he's also leaving the door open for it to fall through.
00:10He's expected to meet Xi in South Korea next week for the APEC summit
00:14and may also travel to China early next year at Beijing's invitation.
00:20If the sit-down happens, it would be their first face-to-face since Trump returned to the White House.
00:26But his position on meeting Xi has shifted multiple times in recent weeks.
00:31Trump's latest comments come just a day after he warned Beijing that tariffs of up to 155 percent
00:37could take effect on November 1st if no trade deal is reached.
00:42Still, he insisted a fair and great trade deal is possible once talks conclude.
00:48Earlier this month, Trump threatened to cancel negotiations altogether
00:51and imposed massive tariffs after China restricted rare-earth exports
00:56before later walking back those remarks.
00:59Trump says his meeting with Xi will cover this issue as well as on fentanyl, soybeans and Taiwan.
