I feel like I started to really find the true energy.
00:05
I don't know exactly when it was, but sometimes things just start to flow
00:08
and you're just in that flow state of like, yes, I'm doing this and it feels really good.
00:17
We're at the Odyssey Sound Space at the Hard Rock Hotel, New York
00:20
for our check-in with Madison Beer.
00:24
What's up?
00:25
What's up?
00:25
So you dropped a single last month, Yes Baby,
00:29
and then you dropped a new single this month, Bittersweet.
00:32
Are you selecting the singles?
00:35
How involved are you with the rollout this time?
00:37
What's going on?
00:38
Oh, it's all me, baby.
00:39
Oh, good.
00:39
It's all me.
00:40
So why did you select these two?
00:41
Why were you like, these are the first ones?
00:42
No, I have a lot of input though.
00:43
I do.
00:44
I get opinions from everybody, but sometimes too many opinions overwhelm me.
00:47
So these felt like in my gut what I wanted to do.
00:51
And I feel like Yes Baby was a good song to sort of re-engage people ideally
00:55
and get them excited and also kind of close, not close out forever,
01:01
but like close out the dance stuff a little bit and now introduce the real sound of this album
01:05
and what you could really expect.
01:07
And so Bittersweet really represents sonically what the albums feels like.
01:11
Got you.
01:11
So in the recording process for the album,
01:13
did you complete these songs like early on or were they towards the end?
01:17
Bittersweet was towards the end.
01:18
Yes Baby was towards the beginning.
01:20
Okay, cool.
01:21
Yeah, they're all over.
01:22
Because I have this theory.
01:23
I feel like sometimes, you know, you get sick of the earlier recordings and then.
01:27
Yeah, but I try not to.
01:29
You do get like a little, your brain can be like, oh, I'm over it.
01:32
But then I'm like, you haven't heard it.
01:34
So I can't go into it with that.
01:36
I have to remember how I felt when I first heard it, you know.
01:38
So I can't let that affect me because that is very true though.
01:40
You do get really sick of things.
01:42
Then you warp your perspective because you're like, wait, it's not that good anymore,
01:44
but it's not that good anymore because you've heard it 5 billion times.
01:47
Right.
01:48
Versus I have to remember how I first felt.
01:49
So does, do you find like sad Madison Beer writing more or happy Madison Beer?
01:56
They're both driving this ship this time around.
02:00
They both are coexisting now, which is what I'm really excited about.
02:03
Their coexistence.
02:04
Where did you find your pocket when writing this album?
02:08
When did you feel like you really hit a stride?
02:11
I feel like I started to really find the true energy.
02:16
A couple months ago, probably six months ago.
02:19
I don't know exactly when it was, but sometimes things just start to flow and you're just in
02:23
that flow state of like, yes, I'm doing this and it feels really good.
02:27
So I don't know when it was exactly, but Bittersweet was the last of it.
02:30
So you're going to now hear like the coming, coming soon.
02:34
You will hear the rest of it.
02:36
Cool.
02:36
I'm painting you this picture.
02:37
Are there any specific artists you were listening to while working on this album that like,
02:44
you know, new or old that you might hear like some of the influences there?
02:49
I listened to so much music, honestly, that it's hard to say what specifically I was listening
02:54
to.
02:55
I was listening to a lot of Daft Punk.
02:57
I was listening to a lot of old Gwen Stefani.
02:58
I was listening to a lot of Ariana Grande.
03:00
I was listening to a lot of Tame Impala.
03:02
It's like, honestly, so all over the place.
03:05
A lot of Bruno Major.
03:06
There's, there's, yeah, there's, there's references that I'm pulling from truly all
03:12
the depths of my soul.
03:13
A pop punk rock album.
03:14
There you go.
03:15
You've talked about your mental health journey and therapy so much.
03:20
Yeah.
03:20
Does your therapist, does your therapist listen to your music?
03:24
Are they ever like, hey, we got to really talk about this song right here?
03:27
No, no.
03:28
It's so separate.
03:29
It's literally so separate.
03:30
She has nothing to do with like the artist life and she, yeah, no, there's nothing to
03:34
do with it.
03:35
But yeah, she, she, she also just, she knows that obviously that I'm a musician and she
03:39
loves that it's my outlet, but no, there's no, there's no crossover.
03:43
We keep them separate.
03:44
She's not like at front row at the concerts or anything.
03:46
She's invited to be, but I'm not sure she wants to be there.
03:49
I got to talk about the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
03:52
You crushed it.
03:53
It was awesome.
03:54
Can you tell me any like backstage moment that happened that was really special to you?
04:00
Um, I got to meet so many of just the OG angels, which was so cool and amazing.
04:05
And, um, they were all so sweet to me and I was like, you guys know who I am?
04:09
I was, it was crazy.
04:10
So just, it's, it's also a huge room and it's such a whirlwind and everyone's changing and
04:15
taking off makeup.
04:15
It's such, it's so fast as soon as the show is done, everyone's jetting out of there,
04:20
but it was so cool.
04:21
I mean, I can't really believe that I did that.
04:24
There's been so many iconic performers that have done it.
04:26
So I just feel very honored to be a part.
04:27
Had you met any of the other performers?
04:29
I met Adriana Lehman, the performers.
04:30
Oh yeah.
04:31
Yeah.
04:31
The performers I had never met.
04:33
No, I had never met any of them before.
04:35
Oh wow.
04:35
Cool.
04:35
It was Carol G, Missy Elliott and twice.
04:37
I'd never met them.
04:38
I was at an event once with twice, but we didn't cross paths and yeah, but, but I, yeah, I
04:42
didn't meet, I've never met any of them, but they were all so sweet.
04:44
Everyone was so great to work with.
04:46
I loved watching everybody.
04:47
It was also a pleasure for me because my performance was first.
04:50
So I got to just sit and watch everybody else and be done.
04:52
So it was lovely.
04:53
I thought it was a really, really great time.
04:55
And did you meet Carrie Bradshaw?
04:57
No.
04:58
Oh, I know.
04:59
I wish I could.
04:59
She was there.
05:00
I know.
05:00
I didn't even see her.
05:02
I didn't even see her.
05:03
I heard she was there after.
05:04
And I was like, thanks for telling me guys.
05:06
Oh man.
05:07
I know.
05:07
Well, listen, I'll get my moment.
05:09
Yes.
05:09
Yes, absolutely.
05:10
I'm manifesting it for you.
05:11
We're so excited for everything you have going on.
05:14
Thank you so much.
05:14
The songs are great.
05:16
And you know, I'm sure the album is just going to be a home run.
05:19
So thank you for taking out the time.
05:19
Thank you so much.
05:20
I appreciate that.
05:21
Thanks.
