00:00But what was your biggest takeaway from Niners-Falcons?
00:02Well, I expected that.
00:03I think when you listened to our pregame,
00:05I said that if you looked at the Atlanta-Buffalo game
00:08and the way they pressured Josh Allen, a mobile quarterback,
00:11that most likely the defensive game plan going up against Mac Jones,
00:15an immobile quarterback, would be to obviously blitz him
00:18and look to get quarterback pressures.
00:20I did feel that San Francisco would take a more conservative approach
00:24than they have in back-to-back games against the Rams and Buccaneers.
00:28The last game they lost, they got into a high-scoring battle with Baker.
00:32Mac Jones took a beating, and I thought playing at home,
00:35they would rely on the offensive line and physicality of the rushing attack
00:39that was nonexistent for the most part.
00:41And you look at Atlanta, as good as they are and as athletic as they are
00:45from a front seven, they're not as big as San Francisco up front.
00:49They're more tweeners.
00:51And they got exposed by a dominant offensive line on Sunday night
00:56and got exposed.
00:56And we saw that in the second half against Buffalo
00:59when they made a commitment to the rushing attack with James Cook,
01:02so I just thought it would carry over.
01:04Does this mean that San Francisco is back, big picture?
01:08No, but when you grind out wins like that
01:11and you find a way to get Christian McCaffrey going with the ground game,
01:16now that opens up everything.
01:17We saw the emergence of a Jawan Jennings come back.
01:20We saw a more methodical type of, you know, controlled type of attack,
01:24which would benefit their defense.
01:26And we saw them get after Michael Pinnickson.
01:28As long as you have that type of game plan,
01:30offensively and defensively, you're a playoff contender.
01:33Yeah, so I think my big takeaway, Joe, is,
01:36and yes, I made this bet preseason, so push back if I'm wrong.
01:41I think Robert Sala is the runaway assistant coach of the year right now.
01:45I don't even really know.
01:46Hey, look at the Jets.
01:47I mean, it can't stop anybody.
01:51Like, I don't really even know.
01:53I know, I think heading into the weekend,
01:55Jim Bob Cooter, who's the Colts OC, is the favorite.
02:00I don't understand that at all.
02:02Shane Sykton's the coach of the year favorite.
02:04They're not going to double up.
02:05Like, to me, they created assistant coach of the year
02:07to basically kind of find a way to,
02:10if the head coach is super responsible, it's going to go them.
02:14But if your assistant coach is the driving force, it's going to go them.
02:16I don't think we're going to see, like, a double up from the Colts.
02:19That would surprise me.
02:21Do you want to go Denver's D.C.?
02:23Is that still Vance Joseph, if I'm not mistaken?
02:25Yep, Vance Joseph had a, I mean,
02:27fourth quarter had a great game plan.
02:29Like, the Dallas OC, again, I think that's more of a Schottenheimer thing,
02:33and he's not winning coach of the year.
02:35Like, Jeff Happley, the Packers D.C.,
02:38I don't think that's more impressive than what's going on in San Francisco to you.
02:42No, no.
02:42I mean, when you see this defense,
02:44and you see the key players that they lost,
02:46and knowing that they're still playing at an above-average level,
02:51and they shut down an offense that was cooking
02:53against the Buffalo Bills, you know, a game before,
02:57you have to make the argument that Salah has done a fantastic job.
03:00And we know that he's had a playoff,
03:02an NFC championship, and Super Bowl caliber defense
03:05during his tenure there in San Francisco.
03:08Yeah.
03:08And he's gotten back to basics.
03:10We talk about head coaches being terrible head coaches
03:13but being potentially great coordinators,
03:16and I think he falls into that category.
03:17100%.
03:18Vic Fangio.
03:19Right.
03:20Right?
03:20Like, that's, you know, and again, for the Niners,
03:23they may fall into what is this perfect setup in Kansas City.
03:29Now, Spags is older, and, like,
03:33Spags is just never going to get a chance to be a head coach again.
03:35He's just going to be a lifelong, you know, decent.
03:38But he's going to just be with him and Andy are going to be there for him.
03:40And he'll be in a Hall of Fame.
03:41But my thing is, I wonder if Salah just stays with the Niners,
03:46with Shanahan, for a very, very, very, very long time.
03:49I think at this point, you have to look, right?
03:51Like, do you think Robert Salah gets, sorry,
03:53in head coaching talks for this upcoming year?
03:57No.
03:58I don't.
03:59I think he'll be like Flores.
04:01Now, Flores had the off the field, you know.
04:03But what I'm saying is it took how many years for Flores
04:06to get back into the mix, into potential coaching jobs?
04:10I think maybe two or three years if he continues at this rate,
04:13he'll be mentioned for maybe a second stint.
04:15Josh McDaniels got a second stint.
