00:00Back from the international break and back with a win for Sunderland as they punished a Wolves side who still remain winless in the Premier League with a 2-0 victory at the Stadium of Light to see the Black Cats move further up the table.
00:16On the balance of the match it could have been argued that a draw would have been a fair result with Sunderland the better side in the first half and Wolves seeing much more of the ball in the second.
00:25But crucially in a game of few clear-cut chances it was Sunderland who took theirs in the first period whilst Wolves failed to really test Robin Roofs in the second before an own goal from Ladislav Krejci killed them off.
00:38Sunderland defended manfully when under pressure from the away side doing enough to resist Wolves' attempts to get on level terms.
00:46It was enough in the end for another three points for Sunderland that now sees them with 14 in total.
00:52Let's go back to the start of proceedings to see how Regis Labrisa's side inflicted a big blow on a side below them in the Premier League table.
01:02Sunderland were the strongest side to begin with and Wilson Isidore found the back of the net after just nine minutes but his strike was ruled out for offside.
01:11The Black Cats were ahead soon after that though as Naughty Mukili slotted through Sam Johnston's legs having played a 1-2 with Trey Hulme.
01:19Hulme himself nearly made it 2-0 as his header at the back post crashed off the outside of the upright.
01:27In the second half though it was roles reversed as Wolves began to dominate the ball more.
01:34Gael Gomez dragged a shot wide for the visitors as they looked to get on level terms.
01:39Vito Pereira's side were committing a lot of men forward to their attacks but they could not find a way through Sunderland's defence
01:46and were punished on the counter-attack when Ladislav Krejci turned into his own net.
01:52Regis Labrisa was full of praise for his defenders after the full-time whistle.
01:56Yeah, this part of the game, especially for our first year in Premier League, is really important for us.
02:06You need great experience to generate many chances through a set attack, counter-attack.
02:14Sometimes it's a bit easier, if I can say it like this, but our true set pieces, it's about working hard and to define the specific setups
02:27and to be clean under delivery, to be clean, to receive the ball and try to score again, win the first contact and second balls.
02:36And it's about beliefs and faith as well. And I think we are doing well in that phase now. I hope it will be the case in the future.
02:42Did you also always sense an opportunity on the counter-attack in the second half as Wolves were starting to commit a lot of men forward towards the end?
02:49Yeah, yeah, it was important. You can decide just to suffer or you can try to find just a balance.
02:58So, okay, we'll defend and it's important to have this mindset and the players connected with this requirement.
03:05But at the same time, if we have players to exploit those spaces, I think it's a good balance. It was the case with Eli and Shams.
03:14A poor first half from both teams, in my opinion. A lot of throw-ins. To talk about the first half, I need to talk about throw-ins, free kicks and the time that we waste to do it.
03:30I don't see any game. I'm trying to remember what we did in the first half and what Sunderland did.
03:41Game was very poor. My opinion. This is my opinion. Second half, 30 minutes. We changed completely the way to play. We play in the way that we work every day. Doing the movements, creating chance, playing with possession, keeping the ball.
04:08A win for Sunderland today was huge in the context of their season. Two of their next three games are against sides who finished in the top four last year in Chelsea and Arsenal.
04:18Wolves, meanwhile, are still without that first victory of the season as we approach November.
04:23And Vitor Pereira will know that improvements will have to come very fast if they are to have any chance of avoiding the drop this year.
04:31Sunderland's aim for this season is also remaining in the division, but they are making a much better effort of it so far in what is fast becoming a very positive season for the Black Cats here on Wearside.
