Grand Finale in Guadalajara: Heavyweights Bring the Heat

The final day in Guadalajara delivered fireworks as judo heavyweights battled for glory. Christian Parlati, Kurena Ikeda, Zelym Kotsoiev, Raz Hershko and Ushangi Kokauri all struck gold, closing the Pan-American tour with style and power.

00:00It's day three in Guadalajara and it's time for the heavyweights.
00:04Fans packed the stands once again and the stage was set for a spectacular finale to the Pan American Tour.
00:11The under 90kg final featured Marcelo Francoviac of Brazil against Christian Parlatti of Italy.
00:17It was a late yuko by Parlatti that would put him on top spot.
00:22With the two athletes showing the ultimate respect at the end of the match.
00:26His medal was awarded by IJF Media and Juro for Peace director, Mr. Nicholas Mesner.
00:32In the under 78kg category, Kurena Ikeda of Japan looked strong throughout the day.
00:38Creating herself a great opening in the final, she sealed the victory with a clinical armlock.
00:43A first Grand Prix title and a moment to remember.
00:49Not everyone is good at fighting in groundwork, but I think Kaju and I are strong because we really love it.
00:56IJF Sport Commission member and three-time world champion, Ms. Yuri Alviar, awarded the medals.
01:03In the under 100kg category, Olympic champion Zelim Kotsoyev of Azerbaijan, having finished fifth in Peru, showed his determination for gold.
01:11A dynamic throw and a yuko score put him back on top of the podium.
01:16In Peru, it was very hard for me, acclimatization, lose weight, I feel not so good.
01:27But today, I'm second week here in Mexico and I feel much better.
01:35Very hard, but very happy day for me.
01:38The medals were awarded by PJC Director General, Mr. Jose Humberto Rodriguez.
01:44In the plus 78kg final, Raz Hershko demonstrated her incredible judo talent, scoring Ippon just 35 seconds into the fight.

01:58Mexico Judo Federation President, Dr. Lilian Estrada, awarded the medal.
02:02At plus 100kg, Lukas Karpalik of Czechia met Ushangi Kokauri of Azerbaijan.
02:11Kokauri was looking unstoppable, scoring the Ippon of the tournament earlier in the preliminaries.
02:17In the final, he managed to catch his opponent, scoring a Wazari and continuing into a hold down.
02:22A great victory and Azerbaijan's sixth gold medal of the tournament.
02:33He received his medal from IGF-EC member, Mrs. Luisa Aguias-Galea.
02:41Day three delivered the drama and marked a powerful end to the Pan American tour.
