Electric Start: Day 1 Highlights from the Paris Grand Slam 2026

00:00Welcome to the iconic Paris Grand Slam in the Accor Hotels Arena.
00:06In the build-up to the medal matches, the event was officially opened by Mr. Marius Wieser, IJF President,
00:12and Mr. Stéphane Nomis, French Judah Federation President.
00:15Mr. Wieser also presented Mr. Daniel Gerta with an IJF Ambassador's Diploma
00:19and Mr. Raja Sapta-Oktahari with an IJF Honorary Black Belt.
00:23At under 48 kilograms, Shireen Boukly was looking to take top spot in front of the adoring home crowd.
00:30In a heart-stopping final, Boukly would claim her second Grand Slam gold in Paris.
00:37Paris, it's my place. It's fantastic and maybe it's the better Grand Slam.

00:44Ile-de-France Region Vice President, Mr. Patrick Karam, awarded the medals.
00:50Balabé Agaïev of Azerbaijan finished the day on top spot in the under 60 kilograms.

02:02At under 73 kilograms, Mahmoudbek Mahmoudbekov fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams, taking Paris gold.

02:25Rafaela Silva of Brazil was taking no prisoners throughout the day in the under 63 kilograms.
